But also in Bisque, Sir Percival, a dapper cat detective with a gentleman’s code, stands sentinel. In The Sketchy Christmas Tree, we meet Sir Percival. He is a frisky feline with a penchant for solving mysteries.
Just before Christmas, Cat Detective, Sir Percival’s people, Brook and Theo Potter, open a box larger than he’s ever seen and reveal a huge “monstrous sketchy houseplant”. “Great Feline in Heaven!” It has sparkly lights and ornaments that completely seduce the animal. It also has very sturdy branches. Branches he can climb and rest on. Branches that allow him to see the house across and down the street where “that pesky dog” resides. That is where this mystery happens, and Sir Percival is right in the middle of it!
I immediately fell hard for Sir Percival. He is one dynamic and dramatic Felis domesticus who loves to solve mysteries. He makes friends with Fidget, the little dog across the street, and they team up to save Fidget’s favorite human. Both these animals are cleverly crafted and developed with true personalities. If you have ever wondered what your pets are thinking, the book is a real treat as we get to see/hear things from Sir Percival’s point of view. The very cool cat had me laughing with his thoughts and antics.
With more than one mystery to solve, Sir Percival has many clues to follow and figure out. His sniffer and Fidget’s were working overtime. I appreciated that he was pretty logical in his quest, but another mystery was how to serve up his findings to the humans around him so they could capture the guilty parties. The cool cat is also very smart. The takedown was priceless. After that, the ending was so sweet!
The Sketchy Christmas Tree is a fun, entertaining, lighthearted read that can be read in one sitting. Cute animal characters and their humans make this book an absolute delight. The mysteries are very well plotted, too. Ms. Carol packs a lot into the 109 pages, and they just fly. This book is A Perfect Mini-Escape!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
This. Was. ADORABLE!!! Huge fan of a cozy mystery from a cat or dog’s POV. And this author clearly knows her cats! I laughed out loud at least five times reading this delightful, quick story. Engrossing, funny, with a good mystery to boot. I am definitely getting the next one!
Synopsis: Sir Percival is distracted from disciplining the houseplants by what seems to be some nefarious doings at the neighbor’s across the street. He must find out what’s happening and protect his little dog neighbor- and *his* dog mom, of course! Where did the kibble go? Oh there it is.
THE SKETCHY CHRISTMAS TREE by Lucy Carol The First Cozy Mystery Holiday
Brook and Theo Potter live a quiet and unassuming life in the quaint town of Bisque. They believe that their cat, Sir Percival, only goes outside with them in a wheeled cat carrier. Sir Percival has other ideas. You see he is a suave feline with a nose for detection. He also has a way to get outdoors to investigate when the needs arises and the night after a shifty tree arrives in his house, the need arose. Now Sir Percival will require the assistance of a new canine friend to solve a mystery and protect a neighbor.
THE SKETCHY CHRISTMAS TREE is an extraordinarily fast read. Both fast paced and short you could easily finish it in one sitting. Despite that, there is solid character development, especially with Sir Percival and Fidget. I love Sir Percival, a cat through and through he's stylish, good looking, and knows his worth. He had me laughing with his ability to be distracted, his thoughts about trees, and his method of leaving the house. His humans are a bit silly, but I think that's the point.
The story was well crafted with multiple mysteries to muddy the waters. I appreciated how Sir Percival lay out the facts as he knew them to help him, and readers, solve the mysteries. I especially loved the puzzle of the "ghost" as well as its resolution.
THE SKETCHY CHRISTMAS TREE is a quick fun read that brings the joy of community and Christmas together with the help of a smart cat and a cute pup!
A cat, Sir Perceval, and a dog, Fidget, become friends as they try to help their humans figure out what is going on! Sir Perceval’s humans, Brook and Theo are friends with Fidget’s mom, Sandy, who has recently split up with her boyfriend Jake. It takes a while for the animals to call attention to Jake’s body, covered with tree branches, and to lead them to the bad guys Sir Perceval trapped in the old storage hut. A cute story, perfect for Christmas!
I rather liked this book. It was told from Sir Percival's perspective but in such away that it held my interest throughout. There was no sense of suggested magic, just ordinary, matter of fact statements that did not make it hard to believe that Sis Percival was in charge. This was not a fantasy tale. Additionally, the book was a complete story, no loose ends to follow in another book. If you like animals, go ahead and read, you will enjoy it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted mystery, told from Sir Percival's point of view. The body in the woods, the bad men pursuing an unknown treasure, and the identity of the mysterious "ghost" kept me wondering and smiling until the end. I am looking forward to Sir Percival's next adventure!
Wow what a book. I really enjoyed this book, it was different as it was a cat doing all the talking and all the sleuthing. It was funny and I could not help but laugh at the way the cat would ralk about itself. All I can say is check out this book and walk with the cat a d see what her does. Sir Persival would be glad to show you just how good he is, if inky you could speak cat. Happy reading.
I really enjoyed this fun Christmas murder mystery. The interplay between the animals was very well done. I thoroughly recommend reading this one especially if you have a few quiet hours to relax with a good book.
I. Would give this story ten stars out of five. I really didn’t want it to end. I hope she has this as part of a series. As soon as I finish here I’m going to check.
Cute story as told through a cat. The cat befriends a neighbor dog and together they are able to sniff out strangers and lead their owners to a body. They have a sneaky way of getting around and having their humans pay attention to what they want.
A wonderful Christmas cozy for cat and dog lovers, and I feel suitable for young readers (or listeners) too. Hallmark or Disney would have fun with this story, I did! Sir Percival rules!
