FBI Special Agent Emma Last is still trying to catch her breath after what went down in Salem. The trauma lingers. The secrets she’s held tight? Not so secret anymore. And as her team reels from the fallout, her once-solid foundation is starting to crack.
And that’s not even the worst of it.
When a rookie DC cop is gunned down in a federal garage by someone wearing an FBI windbreaker, the storm only intensifies. The killer might be posing as one of their own—or worse, might actually be one of them. Before Emma can make sense of the ambush, another officer’s gunned down.
Now it’s not just murder—it’s a message.
The media is circling. Tensions are high. And the arrival of a new agent with a murky past is the last thing she needs.
As questions mount and alliances shift, Emma must navigate a minefield of suspicion, betrayal, and a personal vendetta that may trace back to a sister she’s never met. One with a dangerous grudge—and a growing body count.

Last Shield, the gripping fourteenth book in the Emma Last FBI series is great psychological thriller. It’s a must read. Can’t wait to read the next book.
FBI SA Emma Last, Leo Ambrose, Mia Logan and Vance Jessup have been called in on a murder case. A Murder, a Police Officer then another Police Officer and both killed by an FBI Agent, is it a real FBI Agent and if so why is he killing Police Officers.
Then a new FBI Agent Colton Wright is assigned to assist the team, but he is suspicious. He won't tell them where he is from, what he is doing and the Headquarters of FBI refuse to allow his file be shared with SSA Jacinda Hollingsworth or the team. He keeps disappearing during the killings and will not answer anyone's questions. They are all suspicious of him except SSA Jacinda Hollingsworth, she keeps telling the team to continue to share with him, he is an agent and is there to assist them.
When the bullets show up as being from the weapons stolen by the Sheriff Celeste Foss in Salem. Could this be part of the case from Salem and Emma having killed Celeste? Celeste threatened Emma that her sister would find her and kill her. Is this what is happening?
You will enjoy this new book in the Emma Last Series. I really enjoyed reading the whole series.
Whoever the woman is who is pursuing Emma, she has connections. She has tenacle in the FBI and is trying to start trouble between the local law enforcement and the FBI. Is this the "sister" that she has been hearing about? And how can she be her sister? In the meantime, she is steamrolling over the locals and the FBI. She seems untouchable and certainly has no problem getting rid of people standing in her way. Lots of action and keeps you guessing who is a good guy and who is not. And the ending is a grabber! Another good read.
The real or pretend FBI killer? This action packed book kept me guessing till the end. The trust , the camaraderie, the support between agencies, all of it is in the air and questions are growing. Emma is in the middle of it and it looks like she will loose to her “sister”. Will she?! What about Vance and a new agent. Partners need to rely on each other, yes? Or No? I’m fascinated by Mary’s books. And omg this one has HUGE cliff hanger. That’s all I can say without a spoil… don’t miss this fascinating book.
Emma and her team are still trying to recoup from their time in Salem when a rookie police officer is killed by someone wearing an FBI jacket. While investigating this murder, another officer is killed by likely the same person wearing an FBI jacket. To top all of this, a new agent is assigned to their unit who acts very suspicious, and Vance still cannot forgive or forget that he was not in the loop about knowing Emma's "talent." The story is well written and keeps you on your toes as to who is the murderer, and the ending, well, let me tell you, the next book can't get here quick enough!
Emma and her team are trying to solve the murder of a local officer. The only real clue is that the shooter was wearing an FBI jacket. Before they gain any traction another officer is shot and again a witness says he was wearing an FBI jacket. This team is having issues amongst themselves and it is beginning to affect their work. A very interesting who done it. Another book you can’t put down.
Last Shield is the 14th book in the Emma Last series and what a great book. Emma and her crew are trying to solve the murders of police officers and also with the arrival of a new agent.
Colton Wright is the new agent and is very secretive about his background and why he is there, which causes everyone to be suspicious of him.
The book is full of suspense and I would highly recommend the whole series.
FBI agent Emma Last is still reeling from her last case in Salem that brought some closure to her Mother’s friends; however, it seems the case has side effects! A rookie cop is ambushed & killed by a FBI agent & the ammunition has ramifications from the stolen weapons in Salem. Is Salem coming after Emma, what is happening? A fast paced read that wont disappoint
Police officers and station under attack by the FBI!
The story starts out with 2 police officers being killed by FBI ,( agent or agents). From there we go with FBI agents to find the culprit (s) and end up with a police station under attack, oh, and one of the agents sees and talks to ghosts!
Very exciting read by Mary Stone! Emma Last and her FBI team are wonderful characters that this talented author has created. Intrigue, intensity, suspense, fast paced all make this a terrific book. I literally let out a gasp as the killer is revealed! And the cliffhanger…WOW!
A very gripping, edge of your seat book with twists and turns that has you hooked from start to finish. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series especially after the shocking ending. Thank you, Mary Stone, for another great series. I am an ARC member, and this is my honest review.
Just finished, really loved this book and this whole story from the beginning book. Was a little bit of a surprise ending but I think I figured it out before. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Fast-paced plot that has the reader wondering will be difficult to put down. Emma must face her demons. Unfortunately, the demon is a possible relative.
As always, Mary Stone had me hooked. I finished this one within a few hours. This quick read was action-packed with a twist and a stomach dropping cliffhanger. We see less of the Other in this book, but I'm sure the next one will make up for that.
The together feeling of the police squad,or familiar feeling between them is so comforting. It is good to see that they depend on each other.that family that forms with trust is important. Glad that they get their man
Ms Stone has turned out another outstanding page turner in this series. You will be unable to put his book down. Twists and turners till the very interesting and surprising ending.
Great book, now one of my favorites in this series. The plot is spellbinding, with plenty of twists and turns. I am already looking forward to the next book.
This was a great story about Emma and maybe her sister is having cops killed and Emma is trying to put a stop to it and not be a victim herself. This had lots of suspense and action. Thank you.
This series is so different and fun. TBE writing and character development is spot on. You walk the oath with them. Good solid read from book 1 through this one. Love it.
Mary Stone OMGosh!!! Emma Last series has been awesome, spellbinding page turner for sure, one min I think this and then you blow that up big time!!! Yes now to the next one!
Emma isn’t ready for this case. It has more false hopes and dreams than any “other” case. Be ready to cross your fingers and probably your toes before you finish!!
