Henry said we needed to read up on some dog training before we can get a dog, so here I am.

This was a good read but felt like it talked more about how to implement good habits for harmony in bringing in a new dog (or better understanding the one you have). I was expecting more of a training 101 type book.

Even though I've lived with a dog (or 2 to 5 at once) for 73 years, I decided to read this because I've been a pet-sitter for 10 years and never officially read a book on training. Although alot of it was common, I did learn several great ideas to solve problems like boredome, barking, pulling on the lead, etc. My only complaint is that, though the author does an excellent job laying out the philosophy behind her concisely-listed groups of ideas, she gets too wordy in repeating the same thing in the lengthy conclusion as in the introduction to each chapter and it was annoying. Great for adults and kids.

I had a hard time getting into this book and it was a bit of a slog. The writing style wasn't very interesting to me, as it failed to captivate me and a good non fiction book definitely can.

There was definitely some things mentioned that made me think oh I do that! that's why it works! Or some things I thought would be interesting to try.

However, it still gets a low score from me due to its lack of readability and how it fails to break down many of its suggestions and actaully describe how to implement them in a step by manner.

Excellent advice

We're soon to be adding dogs to our family. We have not had dogs for a long time. I feel this book will give us all the information and guidance we'll need to succeed. This isn't generic information. It's specific, how-to guidance. This is a well organized, easy to read manual.

A Great Book on Understanding Dog Behavior

I thought this book did a great job on explaining why dogs behave the way they do and what to do about building their confidence and trust. I have an anxious dog and found many of the techniques and explanations to be very helpful. This book inspires me to be more cognizant of opportunities to reinforce positive behavior with my pup
