Rachel is no stranger to responsibility—or heartbreak. As the eldest of three sisters, she’s the glue holding their small-town bakery together, juggling taxes, recipes, and endless layers of frosting while quietly nursing the sting of her boyfriend’s betrayal earlier this year. Love? Not on the menu. Her best friend, Jae, has other ideas, especially when it comes to the hunky local firefighter, Nick. Too bad Jae doesn’t know about the incident from their teenage years—the one where Nick burned down the bakery. Nick’s spent years thinking Rachel despises him, and honestly, he wouldn’t blame her. But when Jae signs Rachel up to help with the fire station's fundraiser, he and Rachel are forced into close quarters. As sparks fly that have nothing to do with fire safety, Nick starts to wonder if there’s a chance to rebuild what they lost—and maybe even something more. Rachel can’t ignore the heat between them, but trusting Nick means letting go of the past. Can she take the risk, or will the flames of their shared history consume them both?
Allie lives in sunny Florida with her husband, daughter, and two cats. A librarian by day, she spends her nights writing happily ever afters. She enjoys reading, playing video games, and all things Disney.
"Frosting and Flames" by Allie Winters is super, super cute! I enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but it is just a lovely small-town he-falls-first, it's-always-been-you romance with two great main characters. The perfect palate cleaner type of book, in my opinion. I absolutely LOVED Nick, the main male character. Seriously, what a cinnamon roll sweetheart!! I kept falling for him over and over again. He did something bad when he was younger and moved away from Aurora, but his emotional growth and maturity grew with time. I liked Rachel, too, though I thought she was always a bit quick to judge Nick. Given her history in relationships, though, this is sort of expected. I absolutely haaaaaaaaaaaaated her horrible ex-boyfriend, which just proves Allie Winters did her job when writing him because WOOF, what a dog! I really couldn't help but fall head over heels for Nick and Rachel's love story. This is a very good, steamy book with a ton of heart and even some tears. Think small-town bakery Hallmark-esque kind of book. Give it a shot!
Thank you to Allie Winters for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
I’ve enjoyed other books by this author in the past and so when she reached out and asked if I wanted to start her new series I was very happy to do that! I do love a good fireman hero and I also love a story featuring a bakery, especially when so many yummy types of sweets are mentioned. And I can definitely say that the types of sweets mentioned in this book did not disappoint!
The history between Nick and Rachel seems like it would be pretty tense, with his having been the person who caused their bakery to burn down when she was younger. However, even with that, I feel that Rachel and her family had their reservations about him, but they were also very realistic in how they realized what happened wasn’t something malicious and that they’d forgiven or gotten over that. But it also made a ton of sense that Nick would be carrying that guilt around with him the way he did. Nick had a not so great family life after losing his mother and then his father just kind of ignoring everything at that point. And while Rachel’s family had that loss with the fire, they were able to rebuild. Now Rachel just has to deal with her mother being overbearing and unwavering or accepting of any help from her. Even though Rachel came back to town to help the bakery stay afloat when their grandmother passed and the family seemed to be struggling to keep it from going under financially. Rachel has the college degree and some great knowledge. But her mother is a creative type/dreamer, and doesn’t want to think anything really needs to be changed, it should just continue to be done the way it always has.
Nick has become such a good guy, the town loves him, and so when he and Rachel kind of get thrown together, they quickly become friends. Both kind of had crushes on the other, but of course never acted on them due to their histories. And Rachel’s ex is wow, not a good guy at all. I was a little upset with how Rachel so easily believed something about Nick that was clearly set up by someone else, even if it was understandable after what Kyle had done to her. But up to that point Nick had done nothing but prove how different he was than Kyle and what a great guy he was.
Overall this was a fun story. There were a few points that dragged for me, and some of the steamy scenes had a few bits that were a little cringey for me – like things that were said to each other, but in the end it was a great start to what looks to be a fun series. I’m assuming since the series is named after the bakery that we’ll be getting Rachel’s sisters’ stories in the next two books!
Nick has had a crush on Rachel for years, and now they keep getting thrown together in different situations where Nick lends Rachel a helping hand. After spending more time with Nick, Rachel realizes she’s always been very aware of him.
I loved how they became friends and then Rachel slowly realized there was more there. Nick was so patient and kind, a sweet man who blushes and pines is always going to do it for me!
This was a sugary sweet, with a bit of heat, cutie small town story!

Small Town Baker FMC Firefighter MMC Forced Proximity Slow Burn He Falls First
"I don't want to lose you. Not when I've finally found you."
Rachel has endured a devastating heartbreak, but she tries to make the best of things by sticking around and helping her family's bakery. Her best friend Jae and her sisters try to get her back into dating especially when a particularly handsome firefighter keeps making eyes at Rachel, but Rachel shoots it down. They don't know that he's the one that caused their bakery to burn down years ago and that's a complication Rachel does not need.
Nick has spent years thinking that Rachel hates him, and she would have every right to after what he did. He's spent his life since "the incident" trying to make up for the hurt he caused by dedicating his life to service. When Jae signs Rachel up to help with the fire station's fundraiser, he and Rachel are forced to work together in order to make it a success. There's definitely an attraction that neither of them can deny regardless of how hard they try, and they have to navigate this sticky situation together.
This was a very cute small town romance with a little suspense and intrigue. Nick and Rachel are great characters, and they win you over quickly. Their story is not without its complications, and both have some things that they need to overcome but I loved how they did that together. Everyone makes mistakes, and forgiveness is possible even when you think that you've lost that chance completely. Rachel has her guard up because of her past, and I don't blame her one bit. Her ex is horrible, and honestly, I don't know how she didn't throat punch him several times during this story. It takes her a while to warm up to Nick, but once she does? 😮💨 Nick is sweet and thoughtful in ways that makes your heart ache, but when it comes down to the bedroom, he's sinfully delicious and I loved that about him. He really is the full package, and he provides Rachel with the security and love that she deserves.
If you like small town romances (especially with firefighters! 😉), you'll definitely enjoy this book. I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see what happens in Sydney's story next. 😁
Thank you Allie Winters for an advanced reader's copy of this book. I loved it so much!
ARC REVIEW There's nothing like a cutesy small town romance between a firefighter and a baker. To be completely honest I went into this book with no expectations, I did not even read the synopsis; yet this book made my heart flutter with glittery butterflies. This man 'Nick' has been in love with her for years and I don't mean the cutesy three years in love, i mean since high school. He was downright pathetically in love and I was here for it.
On another note; Allie Winters is a new to me author. Her writing was easy to follow and easy to fall in love with. If you love Laurie Gilmore's books then you might aswell add Allie as a must read author.
Honestly this book brought me so much comfort and I read it in one setting.
This one was super cute! Rachel is a baker who is running the bakery her parents own while they are on a 6 month vacation. Nick is a firefighter who gets a call from Rachel’s sister asking to come help put out a small fire. When Rachel shows up she sees Nick there and is taken aback. But for good reasons. Although she doesn’t blame him for his actions back in the day. The way he was wanting to help with all of the things was super sweet! I loved the connection they had immediately! And of course there’s gotta be a dang KYLE who thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips.. ooo your time is coming buddy!
Lots of romantic moments in this book as well as a good amount of spice!!
This was a cute little romance between two people that had a crush on each other when they where in school but then event happen and he had to go away but he been back for a bit and something happen to bring together again. And then her ex boyfriend is being a dumb dude. But that couldn’t stop them from falling in love with each other. I love how they both never gave up on each other at the end of the day.
Thank you so much for this ARC, Allie! You write the cutest small town romances that always make me smile!
I read a whole lot of romance fiction, so I’m used to reading same(ish) storylines over and over again because that’s going to happen. But all authors are unique in their style and voice and how they tell a story. That’s what keeps me coming back to romance fiction every time and I really like Allie’s style. She doesn’t try to make her stories more than they are and instead focuses on the charm and romance of it all. She develops characters well, the pacing of her stories always has me invested and best of all, she always grabs my heart from the very beginning. I love the sisters and all side characters just as much as I loved Rachel & Nick. The had a few hiccups here and there but mostly this was pure entertainment from beginning to end!
4.5 easily round up to 5 STARS! I can’t wait to see what Allie has instore for us next!
Rating: 4.5/5 I received an eARC for my honest opinion
Okay, this was such a cute read. You will find this book to have forced proximity, slow burn romance, small town, MFC Baker and MMC Firefighter, he falls first, and meddling friends/townspeople. In this book you will meet Rachel who is a Baker at her family’s bakery, her parents have finally gone for a much-needed vacation and it’s for 6 months. Her sisters and herself are left to run the business and with Rachel's parents gone she has some great ideas on how to bring more orders in without her parents knowing. You will meet Nick who had a hard time in his teen years but after years of showing the town that he was truly sorry for his mistake on a horrible night. He is now a firefighter and still helping the town out, on his down time.
The characters in this book are what really made this book so much fun to read. They were likable/relatable, I loved that we got to see a serious side and a fun side to each of them, you will find great lessons that 1 character or a few needed to learn and understand. The side characters didn’t feel like side characters to me but just added another layer to the main characters and I just loved Rachels BFF. She reminded me of my own BFF in real life, a little bit scary at times but so sweet. With Rachel she doesn’t trust easily, and she didn’t have love on her radar after her horrible ex cheated on her. She is strong, determined, caring, she doesn’t want to let anyone down in her life and my favorite part is she is a little clueless when it comes to feelings of love. Nick, he is the description of a complete sweetheart (like get a dictionary and you will see his character under that word), he cares about the community and loves his job so much, and when he puts his mind towards something he will work for it. I loved reading this book because the characters have flaws and it makes them feel real. I loved that we got to watch them work towards their feelings and understanding them and understanding what really loving someone does to your heart and mind. I found their chemistry to feel real and not something that was forced on the readers. They flowed together so well, and even doing their awkward moments (I was laughing and still rooting for their HEA) just made it even more so that they were supposed to be together. I found the banter in this book to be top notch, but more so the important talks that all of us have had to have, or might have to in the future, was done with respect and love, oh and how one character in this book will have you wishing you could punch him in the throat or kick him where he would sing opera . I love that this book does have some spice, but nothing is over the top. I know for me that I will remember Rachel and Nick’s story for a while and I can’t wait to read Allie Winters next book.
I want to thank the author for the chance to read and review this book.
I was provided an ARC of this book via the author, all opinions are my own.
This book was super cute. Rachel has returned home to help run the family bakery. She has a head for finance, and wants nothing but to make the bakery a success. Unfortunately, her parents want to do things the way they have always done things, which is why the bakery was failing in the first place. Her conversations about staffing, inventory, and the price of ingredients fall on deaf ears, but Rachel knows that she has to make some changes fi they want to stay afloat. Fortunately the product is good and Rachel and her sisters love what they do. Nick is a local firefighter, who has spent years atoning for a mistake he made as a teenager. He had a rough childhood and his mistake impacted Rachel's family. When a small fire at the bakery brings them back together they are forced to face what happened when they were in high school. They find themselves running into each other often around town and through a series of unfortunate events (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) they end up running a fundraiser together. They are able to rebuild a friendship and more as they get to know each other.
I really enjoyed getting to know Rachel and Nick. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start, but that is expected once you understand the backstory. Rachel is overworked and stressed about the bakery, and she has just gotten out of a serious relationship where her trust was broken and she was deeply hurt. Nick on the on the other hand is a super easy going bachelor, who while his teen years were rough and he made some bad choices has turned his life around and has become a model citizen. His crush on Rachel goes way back, and he is willing to put the work in to earn her trust and be ready for her to be in a relationship at her pace. Their lines of communication got crossed a few times, but they quickly worked things out without a ton of prolonged angst. Most of the drama was caused by Rachel's ex, who is nothing but drama.
This was a great small town romance, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Allie Winter's always delights with her characters and romantic plotlines.
By the way, I want a recipe booklet for all of the delicious things they were making at the bakery.
Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Rachel may work in a bakery, but her life has been less than sweet lately. She is recovering from a deep betrayal by her ex-boyfriend and trying to encourage her stubborn parents, the bakery's owners, to make meaningful business changes. Her best friend, Jae, signs Rachel up to volunteer at a fundraiser for the local firehouse, knowing that will force Rachel to talk to handsome firefighter Nick. But Rachel and Nick have a history--namely, Nick accidentally burning half the bakery down as a teen--so their reunion is off to a rough start. But it quickly becomes clear that they've misjudged each other. As they spend more time planning community events together, the spark of attraction turns into a flame. But can Rachel trust Nick after being so badly burned in her last relationship?
I devoured this book like one of Rachel's cinnamon buns! The story had so much heart, laughter, small-town magic, and spice that made it hard to put down. Nick is such a sweetheart, and his devotion to Rachel was swoonworthy. He would have waited forever for her if she'd asked him. I just adore him! Rachel and Nick both help each other emotionally heal in different ways, and it was a beautiful aspect of the story. I couldn't get enough of the cozy, small-town vibes and the many descriptions of delicious desserts in the bakery. And the steamy spice was just the perfect icing on top of this excellent book! I highly recommend this book to any small-town romance fan!

I love romances set around bakeries, there’s something warm and comforting about the thought of baked goods being involved in a romance story. I love baking myself but I’m afraid to say I have never had my own bakery, especially not one burnt down by a firefighter.
Okay, so that last sentence is a little misleading. Yes, Nick is a firefighter, and yes Nick did once burn down Rachel’s family bakery. However, he wasn’t a firefighter at the time, he was a confused, grieving teenager who accidentally let off a firecracker in the wrong direction. he served his juvenile sentence and then did community service at the fire station, and turned his life around. He has always, however, had a crush on Rachel but after the fire, he figured he was persona non grata.
This was a beautiful slow burn story about second chances and taking chances. Rachel was getting over a cheating ex (oh my god, he was a piece of work and no mistake) and was slow to trust Nick, not because of the fire but because her heart was betrayed previously. Nick was such a gentleman and took things at Rachel’s pace, even when it hurt him so much to do so at times. But once they lit the flames, there were spicy sparks flying and mucho heat generated.
4.5 ⭐️. How can a small town romance novel go wrong with a baker FMC and a firefighter MMC? It really can't. I appreciated that Nick fell first and harder and that he had a crush on Rachel in high school. I loved Rachel and Nick getting to know each other especially because everyone close to them in town could see the sparks flying between them. I despised Rachel's ex-boyfriend like I think the readers are supposed to but his presence in the story helped to explain Rachel's insecurities when it came to relationships. I also adored Rachel's family and best friend Jae and loved the descriptions of their town and their neighbors. Thank you to author Allie Winters for the opportunity to read this early!
I enjoyed this book SO much. To the point that I sat and read it an afternoon and allowed zero interruptions. I couldn't put it down!
I could read about Rachel and Nick all day, just about their mundane day to day life. I'm glad they acknowledged it in the book too, because their chemistry was off-the-page amazing!
The plot itself was great. It was well-written and paced beautifully
This was my first Allie Winters book, but it absolutely will not be my last. So excited for Sydney's story!
I feel like the beginning conflict is contrived and the book could have almost wrapped up a few times already. This would have worked for me as a fluffy, cutie novella. I’m getting hints of the 3rd act break up that feels silly to me and it’s my sign to stop. There were definitely some fun things to enjoy: the pining, the sister dynamic, the friendships, the firefighter MMC, the eldest sister FMC whom I *always* identify with, but I just wanted a bit more development with the story.
Thank you to Allie Winters for the early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
If you want a a cutesy small town romance this is the book for you!! Nick was the sweetest fireman who’s been obessed with his girl Rachel since High School! This man is down bad. He’s was the swooniest! The bond between sister group is this book was good! And I loved the meddling best friend!! The pace was good and it had juts the right amount of spice. Thank you Allie for letting me Nick and Rachel’s story! I can’t wait to see what you have us store for Sydney!
What a unique storyline of the boy who caught a bakery on fire and the girl who's helps operate it. They went to school together but don't really get to know each other until a little later. When a small mishap at the bakery causes a chain reaction of events. Loved the sisters and best friend interactions and talk about hot in the kitchen.
Adorable small town romance. Nick is such a cinnamon roll with a heart of gold & he’s always had it bad for Rachel. Rachel is in charge of her parent’s bakery & she’s stressed. Nicks a firefighter, enough said. Throw in some forced proximity & undeniable attraction & we have ourselves a hot fire that’s begging to be stoked.
The side characters were great & funny. Their love journey made you root for them.
This was so much fun to read. These two are so cute together and I love watching the grow closer despite outside forces. A small town, he-falls-first romance with a few spicy scenes to hit the mark and make you fall in love with the two main characters.
Frosting and Flames gave me hallmark movie vibes and I was 100% here for it! Allie’s writing style is easy to follow, flows well, and she does a great job with character dynamics and their chemistry. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future! Thank you Allie Winters for the ARC!
ARC Review: Frosting and Flames by Allie Winters ✨
A warm, small-town romance with just the right mix of sweetness, frosting and heat. It‘s not giving super spicy but I would say it‘s definitely more on the cozy spice side.
Rachel, a very responsible bakery owner nursing her heartbreak, is trying to live her life peacefully. Then she meets Nick, a firefighter who accidentally (like for real) burned down her family‘s bakery years ago. Their relationship obviously starts off a weird background, but slowly but surely turns into something resembling passionate chemistry or well more.
Winters delivers relatable characters, low-drama conflict (apart from the bakery burning in the past) and a cozy setting that’s as comforting as it is addictive. Perfect for readers who like their romance heartfelt, steamy (but not too steamy), and sprinkled with second chances.
I loved the firefighter/baker duo those two delivered.
Allie Winters is back (which I’m delighted about) with a new small-town romance series, of which this is the first novel (which I’m even more delighted about). This book focusses on Rachel, the eldest of three sisters from small town Aurora, who run the town’s bakery. I’m assuming and hoping that the younger two sister will get their own stories after this one.
But onto this story - the romance between Rachel, the strong and responsible older sister, and Nick Henderson, who may have grown out of his bad boy ways, but has never grown out of his crush on Rachel. Oh and there’s the teeny tiny problem of the fact that Nick had once burned down Rachel’s family bakery.
Most people would be able to, I think, identify with Rachel. She’s the older sister, running her family bakery, spiralling under the weight of the responsibility - all while nursing a recent heartbreak. She was hard not to like. I liked her honesty, her spirit and how she couldn’t help herself but fall in love with Nick.
Nick was an absolute delight as a hero. From his first scene, it’s really obvious that he’s head over heels for Rachel and it was so stinkin’ cute. He was so unsure and awkward around her - in all his sexy, fireman, tattooed, buff glory. I loved it. But he was far from a flat character - he had layers and baggage - and I liked how he had changed and grown into the man he was during this story.
As a pairing, Rachel and Nick were perfection. They started off awkwardly dancing around each other, then becoming friends, then into something more. I don’t know how Ms Winters does it but she manages to infuse so much emotion and feeling into their interactions, but still have it coming across as honest and believable. I just love the way she weaves a couple together through their romance. And of course, they have chemistry, too. Sexually. It may not come until nearer the end of the book but goodness, it’s a good job Nick’s a firefighter and has a fire extinguisher to hand. *Fans self*
It goes without saying that Allie Winters writing is superb. She brought Aurora and it’s characters to life, while always focussing on the main thing we’re interested in which is the romance between Nick and Rachel. It was oh so satisfying and definitely another winner from this excellent author. And I’m already excited for the next book in the series about younger sister, Sydney. 5 stars for this one.
No lie, this book hit the sweet spot in more ways than one. To start, Rachel's running the family bakery and I ALWAYS appreciate talk of cinnamon rolls and cupcakes. Throw in romance in a small town (and all the small town drama that goes with that), an ex who is just a complete waste of oxygen, sisters who squabble, but have one another's backs when things go south, and a BFF who is a little terrifying and YESSSS. Sweet, sweet, sweet.
But first! Rachel and Nick. She's a heart-shy mess thanks to aforementioned ex who betrayed her trust and got another woman pregnant. She wasn't necessarily in love with the ex, but she doesn't trust her own judgement now since she didn't see any of his drama coming. Which brings us to Nick. He's a complete sweetheart. He's still mentally atoning for the events that led to him burning down Rachel's family's bakery. Let's say he's definitely learned his lesson and has dedicated himself to giving back to the community in spades. He's a sweetheart through and through and he's had a thing for Rachel since before the bakery-burning incident, but doesn't think he has a chance because of their past.
The thing is that Rachel is clueless about his attraction. Heck, she's even clueless about how attracted she is to him. She gets tense and butterfly-y around him and doesn't realize it's because she LIKES him. Like, like-likes him. It takes the combined might of her sisters and her BFF to finally get it through her head that all that tension is because there's something there that's worth exploring. (To be fair, Rachel is also hesitant because of the aforementioned betrayal by the ex and doesn't want to put herself out there again. Fortunately, her BFF pushes her through that hesitation and gets her to see that taking a chance is worth it.)
A small town with a big personality, family dynamics of multiple varieties, an ex who is just as slimy as you might think, some seriously steamy kisses, a firefighter with a heart of gold and plenty of patience, and a lady who has a little baggage to work through, but who knows a good thing when she sees him. *thumbs up*
Frosting and Flames is my first book by Allie Winters. I was drawn to it by the cute cover plus firefighters are a weakness of mine. This is book 1 in a new series, Aurora Bakery.
Rachel's parents own the bakery in their small town and she, along with her two sisters, are running it while their parents enjoy an extended vacation. She went to high school with Nick but they weren't really friends. As a teen, he accidentally set the bakery on fire. He's served his time and now serves the community as a firefighter.
Nick has been sweet on Rachel since they were in 9th grade. Now, over 10 years later, they run into each other multiple times and begin to spend more time together, developing a new relationship.
If you like golden retriever, teddy bear types, Nick is perfect for you. Every moment he spends with Rachel is a dream come true for him. He jumps in to help where he can, defends her when needed, and would throw fists too. The community loves him. He's a tad insecure and I love how Rachel's attention starts to change that.
Rachel has insecurities too, after being cheated on in her last relationship. Not only does Nick say all the right things, his actions follow. He allows Rachel to move at her pace and earns her trust.
The book does move a little slowly in the physical department. Honestly though, the pace felt very realistic which was a refreshing change from what I usually read. Once they got to the spice, it was good. Not kinky or anything but still spicy and well written. Nick's dirty mouth was a nice surprise.
There were some fun side characters, specifically Rachel's sisters and her best friend, Jae. The first line in the book is from Jae, "Okay, be honest - too slutty?" and that's her personality to a T. I loved it! And she offset Rachel's more calm and demure personality perfectly. Book 2 will feature Rachel's sisters Sydney and I can't wait to read it.
If you're looking for a sweet, small town romance with a bit of spice, you should definitely read Frosting and Flames.
Oh, Frosting and Flames by Allie Winters truly takes the cake! From start to finish, I was craving cinnamon rolls, and not just because our amazing FMC, Rachel, bakes them so beautifully. Our MMC, Nick, is a total cinnamon roll himself – warm, comforting, and utterly irresistible!
Nick falls first (way back in high school) and he falls hard, never really stopping. He's absolutely whipped for Rachel, and honestly, the dual POV was the icing on the cake for me. His perspective made my heart melt faster than butter on steaming hot pancakes. Seriously, what do you even mean he's a hot firefighter but a complete softie only for Rachel?! My heart couldn't handle it! 😭
This was such a quick and easy read, giving me all the warm fuzzies of a Hallmark movie – and I'm a total sucker for those! It's a delightful small-town romance, baked with delicious forced proximity and a slow burn that makes every moment oh-so-satisfying. Rachel, fresh out of a toxic relationship where she was cheated on, has understandably given up on men. But then she bumps into her high school classmate, Nick, and let's just say they have a history that's best savored by reading it. This book gave me all the good vibes, and while it had some definite 🌶️🌶️ moments (I'm still figuring out my spice scale since this was my first "spicy" read), it's more than just a romance. It's a journey of growth for both Rachel and Nick. Rachel learns to trust others and gracefully juggle the family bakery with her sisters, while Nick works on forgiving himself. Their individual growth adds so much depth, making this story a truly well-rounded treat.
And the best part? There's another book rising soon, featuring Rachel's middle sister as the FMC this November! I'm already super excited to get my hands on it.
A big thank you to Allie Winters for approving my early reading copy! This book was a truly delicious experience!
I was definitely in for a treat with this read. It was so cozy, sweet and wholesome. First off our fmc Rachel coming back to help with her family bakery, she is determined, wants success for the business and her family. I loved that Rachel was very straight with her actions of wanting to have the bakery be successful as possible even with her knowledge & degree she is still empathetic to everyone wants/needs as well. On to our mmc Nick, he is our firefighter man and the people in the town love him. Nic is carrying so many emotions such as grief due losing to his mother and his father basically just moves past the issues and just basically ignores them. So definitely Nick had to deal with some impactful events but that did not remove his traits of caring for people, staying determined, being a hard worker and such a kindhearted person. Now onto Nick and Rachel romance I loved how after coming back together, their energy, their connection and their feelings were realistic and wholesome. Nick having a previous/past crush on her added such fuel to it as well. I loved how both characters and especially Nick built on the relationship, learning from past and present moments to be ready not only for a stable relationship with Rachel but to be a good partner in general. I loved the awkward moments, the communication as well as pushing through some of the drama moments that happened as well. This romance and novel highlighted a cute connection of two people in love and caring for others. I loved this read and recommend everyone to read it!
🏷️😉 These characters highlight a passion for caring, supporting themselves and others around them. Undeniable and lovable chemistry and romance. I loved it and recommend everyone to read!
Tropes: 🧁 small town romance, 🧁 forced proximity, 🧁steamy slow burn , 🧁baker heroine, 🧁firefighter hero, 🧁he falls hero
A FIREFIGHTER AND A BAKER?! GENIUS ✨🤌 Allie Winters has truly outdone herself with this fast paced, sweet yet spicy romance, featuring characters that I simply couldn’t get enough of.
The first thing I noticed and absolutely fell in love with was the DIALOGUE!!! The conversations between siblings, coworkers, roommates, friends, and one dirtbag ex were all so realistic. Nothing felt clunky or awkward at all and everything just flowed so nicely. This is something that I look for when reading novels like this and I am SO glad that the banter between characters was crafted so meticulously.
The romance in the first half is so stinkin’ sweet. Watching Rachel and Nick go from estranged acquaintances, to event organizer partners, to friends, to lovers was such an incredible journey. After the 50% mark, the spice picks up at an exponential rate and we make the shift from sugary, sweet romance to spicy hot in a matter of chapters. Their relationship throughout the novel gave me the warm fuzzies and I found myself looking forward to all of their encounters.
I also loved the event organizing part of the plot. Seeing what Rachel and Nick were able to come up with and then bring to life for their sweet community was simply the best. I am a sucker for small communities (might have something to do with the fact that I live in one), and seeing everyone come together to show their support for their local fire department just warmed my little heart.
So grab your favourite pastry (or two), a warm drink, and prepare to enjoy this sweet, steamy romance!!
🧁 Baker x Firefighter 🧁 Steamy Slow Burn 🧁 Forced Proximity 🧁 Small Town Romance
I really loved this book. Rachel was a super sweet person. She was a great big sister and such a great daughter. She feels the weight of her family’s bakery on her shoulders since her parent left for a trip and left her and her sisters in charge. I loved how she gave Nick a chance to become her friend. My heart broke for her and how she was hurt in her previous relationship. It takes her some time, but she does begin to learn to slowly trust again.
I loved Nick. I thought he was such a sweetheart and I love how he was the complete opposite of Rachel’s ex. He’s always had a crush on Rachel, but after burning down her families bakery all those years ago, he’s believed that she’s always hated him. Honestly, my heart broke for him. Years after accidentally burning down the bakery, he still hold on to the guilt from that day. I love how he put his feelings out there for Rachel.
I really loved Nick and Rachel together. They were there for each other and I love how they stood up for one another. I love how they worked together to create a fundraiser for their community. Their conversation around what happened all those years ago was a great turning point for these two.
I loved the side characters, especially Rachel’s bestie, Jae and her sisters. I love how they were there for her when she needed them. They also gave her their honest opinions.
Overall, this was a sweet book with some spice mixed in. It gave me Hallmark vibes, especially with them living in a small town. I also loved that she was a baker and he was a fireman. Again, I loved this one and I would definitely recommend it.
Thank you to Allie Winters for the ARC for an honest review.
Rachel has a lot on her plate. She is helping run her parents bakery with her three sisters, while their parents are taking a long cruise. She has a marketing background, and helps the bakery with inventory and finances. She’s recently been in a pretty heart-wrenching breakup, where her ex cheated on her and consequently got the other woman pregnant, and in their small town, Rachel is always looking over her shoulder to make sure she doesn’t see them.
One morning as Rachel and her long time friend Jae are hanging out, Rachel gets a frazzled call from one of her younger sisters stating there was a fire. The two run back to the bakery to find both sisters as well as Nick, one of the town’s firefighters there helping with the situation. Nick, who has had a crush on Rachel since high school can’t take his eyes off of her, and Jae notices this. The small kitchen fire is taken care of and Rachel thinks she can just be on her way, but Jae has another idea. A couple of weeks later, Jae has signed both her and Rachel up to help with a pancake breakfast that the firefighters organized. One event turns into Rachel and Nick talking more about the next fundraiser for the firemen, and a new friendship is born.
This book is the perfect small town romance. Sweet, steamy, and the perfect rom-com. Rachel and Nick knew each other in high school so there's a bit of “it’s always been you”, and Nick also really just wants Rachel to forgive him of his past. I loved this book. It was a super quick read for me, and a perfect palette cleanser between some books with tougher themes!
Thank you so much to Allie Winters for the ARC opportunity!
