What does it take to become the best brewer in the world?
Hawkin finds great success distributing ethereal beers while struggling to break into gold rank and brew his elusive golden chapter beer. After earning the title of Champion Oude Brewer, adventurers are even more keen to seek him out.
Meanwhile, Boggo sets off on his most terrifying quest since setting paws above ground, despite having sustained serious injury from one of Hawkin’s rivals.
Barnacle-eyes is determined to build a fleet so that she can hire as many goblins as she can. Above all else, she wants to provide a home for hard-working goblins. As she delivers Hawkin’s beer to monsters, she continues to evolve her fleet.
Having lost his appetite, Thrush falls into blinding starvation and is at his most dangerous. The ravenous beast must finish the hunt he begins before he can savor smoked fish and meat once more.
As Hawkin levels up, so does Abigail. Their relationship grows, and the two brewers consider their future together. In this final book of the trilogy, Hawkin must decide if the cost of following his quest path is worth the reward of the journey.
Super frustrating. When the book about the guy brewing beer barely has any 'guy brewing beer' in it, and instead mostly follows whimsical goblin pirates and little magical gnomes inventing D&D for some reason, you kinda just feel like it's lost the plot.
I feel like there were spinoff ideas that kinda just got mashed into one book, and when the plot does happen it seems like everything is more or less a retread of the previous books, and no one really accomplishes much of anything new. Fun ideas, poor execution.
Thank you for such a wonderful adventure. I greatly enjoyed reading your book and the slice of life that you have shared. Books like this are therapeutic to the soul.
What a gift the Brewer books have been. Despite my reluctance to get to know the goblin characters, and the bestie characters, and even Thrush to begin with, I have just sunk into these books like they were soft welcoming beds. Enjoy.
Did not finish. If the first book was like snuggling up in a warm blanket on a cold day this one is like being smothered with the weight of 100 blankets, it's gone full cozy and you never go full cozy.
The story seems to lack any direction, instead going for endless meanders through the woods, or following the comic relief characters playing DnD for some reason. After some initiall interesting scenes, even the character of Thrush felt toned down, the rough edges and interesting quirks that made them a joy ro read about in book 1 gone.
There were some truly funny interactions among the goblins, and impresssive scenes with the orcs, but these seemed to be doing more to progress the story than anything the main character did which made me resent going back to him more and more.
This would benefit from some major editing to remove alot of the bloat, or even splitting into two smaller books.
What a wonderful book, full of friendship and love. It creates a world that I would love to visit. A world where brewing beer is brewing magic and sharing a beer with a friend is the greatest magic of all.
My only complaint is an odd one. There is too much of this great book. It needs an editor. I enjoyed Ogo’s exploration of the world, but it should have been in its own book. The same with much of the conflict between Barnacle Eyes and Gloom Glower.
I read thus because I wanted to read the story of how Hawkin reached gold rank and how his life together with Abigail went. The other stuff was nice, but it was mostly extra frosting on an already well frosted cake.
Looking forward to hearing more about Hawkin and his family of friends on his quest for diamond rank.
It really bothers me how poorly the romance was written in this. The emotion in the book is real and good, but how the author illustrates it is not. Thrush not getting his emotions and tracking down Margeaux? Fine, expected - he's a primordial thing that's never made friends before. Okay. (and ha! That's what she gets! Loved to see it.)
Abigail? She could've been more emotive. Hawkin? There was so little exposition on him actually falling for Abigail. Why can the author do all this emotion for Barnacle-Eyes and her love for her father, but fail at writing the romance with the main protagonist? They wrote Boggo's emotions better than Hawkin.
This book is vastly different from the previous two. The author no longer views Hawkins as the main character; instead for more than half of the book, we are concentrating on Barnacle-eyes. Definitely less focused on beer.
This book loses the feel of the first two, and starts to feel like any other fantasy/adventure. A lot of feelings are mixed up in this book, and ultimately for me there were tears.
The ending portion of the book sort of felt forced together whereas the actual ending was sweet.
I enjoy most of this book and really enjoyed how it ended. I was expecting them to make Hawkin a god but they chose the right one. I really enjoyed Both and Bella's relationship more than Hawkins and Abigails; it just seemed more like a true relationship and didn't have all the issues and baggage.
I am so sad to see the end of this series!! It was so wonderfully good. I love all the characters and the world building!! So imaginative and exceptional. I will miss Hawkin and Abigail and Barnacle Eyes… and Thrush and the Blue Beasties. Oh how I loved it. Highly recommend!
It was okay, I would have liked more Hawkin actually in it and less time with all the other characters POV, but it was a fitting end to the story. I feel like the barnacle-eyes story would have been good as a side book though.
I really loved reading this book. It was fun and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I don't know if there will be more to this series but I would definitely read it. This book and series are a must read.
I've barely been able to put this series down. Such a simple and well written book. Puts you in the moment as well or better than any book I've read. It's a golden chapter read for sure.
Well Rounded Series. Warm hearted. Author made his original take of fantasy come through 3 novels. I wish there was a 4th. If you want a series with No sex or demons or an apocalypse, check out this wholesome as a fantasy novel can get series.
2.5☆ The amount of side character chapters full of nothing of substance ruined it for me. The first and second book also had them, but this one was so much worse. I wanted to read about Hawkin and his brewing adventures, but that was such a small part of the book.
A worthy ending to a wonderful series but the first book remains the best, by far. While giving the readers a satisfactory ending, this one focused too much on the side characters.
One of my favorite stories because of the whimsical details and oh so satisfying little endings. Cant say more otherwise I’d be here forever, go! Read it!
