Enter the Trial for Marriage. Win her own hand. Usurp the throne. Free the Light Realm.Princess Wren Bellator has trained in secret her entire life. She knows she will never rise to the throne. Her brother will make sure of it and he may be worse than their father. The only way to free the Light Realm is by freeing herself first by winning the Trial for Marriage.
Beau Renault is the son of the richest lord in the realm, but has a heart of gold and sapphire eyes that changes the way Wren views the trial. Not everyone has entered the trial for her dowry and Beau isn’t the only contestant who’s made his intentions known.
Ezra Loreign was a nobody when he entered the trial. He doesn’t want to marry Wren. He avoids the luxury of life at court. Wren finds his cold exterior as loathsome as he finds her stubborn attitude. Still, he keeps Wren’s secret and protects her, which makes her wonder what his true intentions are and if he’s an asset or enemy in disguise.
The trial takes a sinister turn and Wren learns that maybe she can save more than just the people of the Light Realm, but it will take an army she doesn’t have and an ally she isn’t sure she trusts.
Trial of Flame and Wings by Amy Prokopis is an absolute gem that drew me in from the very first page. The world building is stunning and unlike anything I’ve read before—filled with magic, political intrigue, and layers of mythology reminiscent of Greek legends. The concept of the Great Mother and the different gods added a rich, fascinating depth to the story that made the realm feel alive and immersive.
Princess Wren Bellator is an unforgettable heroine. She’s brave, strong, and fiercely determined, willing to stand up for what she believes in even when it means putting her life on the line. It was so refreshing to see a female lead who stays true to herself and doesn’t get swept away by flattery or romance, as often happens in similar stories.
The dynamic between Wren and the two male characters was beautifully written. One of my favorite moments was when Ezra reminds her, “My mother never settled for less than what she’s determined to take”—a powerful line that pushes Wren to stay true to her convictions and think critically about her choices.
I also loved the pacing of the story, especially how it was broken into parts that slowly revealed more about the mythology and stakes. It kept me hooked and craving more as each piece fell into place.
This is one of those books I stayed up late reading because I simply couldn’t walk away from it. The action, mystery, and emotional pull were perfectly balanced, and now I’m eagerly waiting for the second installment. If you enjoy strong heroines, complex plots, and a touch of magic and mythology woven together flawlessly, this book is an absolute must-read!

Ezra is loyal and protective, which is great and all, but it makes her wonder what's really going on in that head of his, and let's be real, Wren's stubbornness is a bit of a handful haha and there banter is comical! The effective visuals and creative writing, with the engaging plot development, and the fascinating side story of the Gods, held me spellbound! Leaving you with a unmatched loyalty cliffhanger, to save the realm for future peace and harmony.
🔥” if my name gets written into the history books, it won’t be because of Aria’s blessing, but because yours will be there with mine. I would rather knee at your feet than any goddesses who believe some lives are worth more than others.”
Swoon. We love a good morally gray character.
In Prokopis’s novel, she introduces a world of oppression and despair from the both the FMC and the citizens of the Light Realm.
As Wren Ballator fights for her chance to have her own life and to become her own person, she experiences heartache, loss and sacrifice along the way. Her journey invokes in each of us the question, “How far am I willing to go; What am I willing to lose?”
Written at a captivating pace, with hidden turns in the pages, you won’t want to put this book down!

There are a million and 3 things I can say about this book. I absolutely loved the writing the story development, the challenges, and the side story of the Gods! The emotions this one put me through, oh wow. I am obsessed and can't wait to see more of Wren and Ezra!!
Loved the mythology in this and hope there is more in the next book and it delves deeper/keeps giving more background into that story. I like that Ezra let's Wren just be for the most part, no hand holding no false flattery of "yes you are an independent woman who can handle herself, now let me wrap you in a bubble so I can keep you safe" he sees her capabilities. Having an FMC that can take care of herself and isn't immediately smothered by the MMC and just goes along with being smothed and then forgetting that they are actually BA is refreshing. I can't wait for the next book!!
