The Grumpy Dragon Boss’s Secret Baby

Rate this book
Felix Winters

A cunning cat-shifter with a rapidly emptying bank account, Felix is out of options—and nearly out of time. Desperate to keep a roof over his head, he concocts one last pose as a beta and slip past the ironclad anti-omega policy at Drakenridge Industries. The stakes couldn’t be higher; losing this job means ruin. But as Felix navigates endless nights of suppressants and the constant threat of discovery, he never expects his grumpy, impossibly commanding new boss to spark the very desires he’s spent his life hiding.

Dante Drakenridge

No-nonsense dragon alpha CEO, Dante demands perfection—and absolutely no omegas messing up his carefully structured empire. Unyielding in his convictions, he runs Drakenridge Industries with a steel fist and a scathing glare that sends lesser employees running for the hills. Yet the closer he watches his quietly tenacious “beta” assistant, the more Dante’s impenetrable composure cracks. That curt mouth, those sharp eyes... they awaken an irresistible fire in the alpha’s core. A blaze he’s sworn he’d never feel for an omega—if only he realized the truth behind Felix’s façade.

So... I devoured the first half of the book like crazy, I loved it, but the second half was like reading a completely different book, I felt like it was no longer the same and compared to the first half, there was too much filler, it was a pain to have to read the last five chapters, they added nothing to the story and by the time the problem of everything is solved, only one page is enough, I mean, it was a big chaos for nothing, I feel like the thread of the story was lost and many things were unnecessary and meaningless.

unremarkable

This story was kind of confusing with the back and forth I noted a lot of errors early in the story Felix remarked how his omega father left when his alpha father was unwell and how he stepped up when he was just 16, then on page 109 says his alpha father left when he was the same age and he rarely talks about that abandonment. Next on page 167 Felix mentioned a feeling of contentment since his omega father left after he and Dante mated. Also the father’s name went from Matthias to Ambrose hmmm was this an arc copy that never got revised questions that need answers or maybe not overall it was a really slow burn and I finished it despite wanting to DNF at 57% but I hate leaving things unfinished when I start something

Bizarre shift about midway through. Before that it was fun if a bit unpolished (name and detail changes for side characters, description of an apartment is different the 2nd time) and extremely silly on timelines, which is fine. Suddenly the characters are totally different people with different motivations and none of their previous family or community ties matter at all. The writing becomes focused on how farm labor is better than office jobs (?) especially for people expecting to become single parents of multiple infants (?????). I’d been on board but could bother with the last 50 pages.

2 different books?

This book started off really good. But half way through it changed so dramatically almost like I was picking up half way through a different book. Even the characters personalities changed. It was well written with minimal errors.
