I learnt a great deal about how TV shows and films are made. I loved learning about all the drama behind the scenes through this fictional telling of the making of an action film on a latin American island. It’s made me want to be a First AD!
I enjoyed the last third but it took me a while to get into and in places, lack description, so it felt like I was just reading dialogue, which didn't help me get into the story. Having dabbled with working in the industry, it was an interesting take on a fiction novel.
Having seen a few reviews where people haven't rated it more than 3 I did wonder if it was purely because Larry Lamb is an actor and well we know they often get published off their name alone BUT this was actually good. I enjoyed learning all the filing lingo. Yes in parts it was a tad boring and a tad choppy but I think that is the nature of making films its not all excitement and go go go. Its often sitting around and waiting. I kept pushing on as I rate Larry as a good actor and honestly if you dont read the entire thing you'll miss the amazing end! It really got good like page turning good at the end. I liked the narration and could really hear his voice in that. Characters were good and some very funny bits. Would recommend just stick with it because its worth it.
