Cole McGinnis #5

A Cole McGinnis Mystery

From the moment former LAPD detective Bobby Dawson spots Ichiro Tokugawa, he knows the man is trouble. And not just because the much younger Japanese inker is hot, complicated, and pushes every one of Bobby’s buttons. No, Ichi is trouble because he’s Cole McGinnis’s younger brother and off-limits in every possible way. And Bobby knows that even before Cole threatens to kill him for looking Ichi’s way. But despite his gut telling him Ichi is bad news, Bobby can’t stop looking… or wanting.

Ichi was never one to play by the rules. Growing up in Japan as his father’s heir, he’d been bound by every rule imaginable until he had enough and walked away from everything to become his own man. Los Angeles was supposed to be a brief pitstop before he moved on, but after connecting with his American half-brothers, it looks like a good city to call home for a while—if it weren’t for Bobby Dawson.

Bobby is definitely a love-them-and-leave-them type, a philosophy Ichi whole-heartedly agrees with. Family was as much of a relationship as Ichi was looking for, but something about the gruff and handsome Bobby Dawson makes Ichi want more.

Much, much more.

*3.5 stars, rounded up because the audiobook narrator, Greg Tremblay, is a-mazing*

I hold this series VERY close to my heart, and so I was dying to read Bobby and Ichi's story. However, it was only my love for these characters (and the narration, but we'll get to that later) that made this one bearable, to be honest.

The hard truth is that there is VERY little plot in this story.

The time frame jumps around because this book takes place during Dirty Deeds. One of the most difficult things about this story is that it is interspersed between the happenings of "Dirty Deeds." It didn't feel like its own independent story, but rather an offshoot of another, larger plot, which was really disappointing for me.

Part of that was my expectations. The Cole McGinnis books are so action-packed, so exciting that I was anticipating something more EXPLOSIVE. I didn't get that at all. This book is all about Bobby and Ichi coming together, which really wasn't enough to carry the story for me. At times, I found myself growing bored (GASP), which NEVER happens with a Rhys Ford book.

The problem is, I'm not sure if there was any way around my issues. The way the last book ended, this book HAD to take place during the last story, so the author was forced to mold a book to fit around that premise. I just found it sort of dull... flat. If I was going to rate this book on the content alone, I would have rated 2.5-3 stars. However, the narration saved this book and it saved it BIG TIME.

I adore Greg Tremblay. It is no secret to those who read my reviews that I'm a huge fan-girl of his. He just puts so much of himself into his work. His voices, his inflections... they are just PERFECT. This series feels like a labor of love for the narrator, and it shows in the quality of his performance. Listening to Greg embrace the characters easily bumped up my rating of this book a full star or more.

I think this book is reserved for only the most hard-core fans of this series, or audiobook lovers. All others might be disappointed by the result.

"if you and I go to that bed, and I get to do what I want with you, I might not ever want to let you go. Then what’s going to happen to me when you get tired of it and walk off?”

5+++++++++++++ stars for the Audiobook

3.75 stars for the story

I am too tired to write a proper review, i hope this will do:

-Loved Greg's narration, this guy can give me an eargasm anytime and i would never complain.

description

- I enjoyed getting to know more about Bobby's past, and what made him, be the way he was. Honestly Bobby is just amazing.

- Ichi is adorable and i loved him even more here.

-There was no mystery here, just a sweet, candy coated, sugary romance.

-I wanted to punch Bobby's son so hard and Mike too.

- Bobby's humor was on point and had me laughing.

“He gave a halfhearted hope Ichiro could walk on his own steam, but a few fumbling tries to get him up onto his feet only showed Bobby how Ichi’s legs could double as overcooked noodles.”

Overall it was a great addition to the series.

3 1/2 Stars - Smexy Smut-fun — A favorite hunk: Bobby with an extremely 'dirty' talking mouth. Yum!!

Book #5

At last the anticipated fifth book with much much more yummy stuff about the gorgeous older Bobby character.

As for all other books in this series did I chose to listening to the audiobook. 6:43 lovely listening hours narrated by an always fantastic grunting husky Greg Tremblay. I love his voice for these characters... and all those (frequently) very explicit steamy parts.

Once again high quality smut for naughty M/M readers
Not totally angst-free but high in steam and sweet promises about a better future. Maybe a poor storyline but grand romantic. I enjoyed a lot.

***********************************************************

I'm since last summer an audiobooks addict to Rhys Ford's Cole McGinnis series. Haven't been dissapointed a single time. In my opinion Ms Fords best M/M series so far. (Reviews etc: )
 photo image_zps650ff50a.jpg

This fifth installment, Down and Dirty, is about the former LAPD detective Bobby Dawson, Cole's best friend, and Bobby's interest (...horny attraction) in Cole's younger half-brother Ichiro Tokugawa who recently arrived from Japan.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it but this Bobby character is just so sexy. Aawwww, A MAN!! Good to meet him again.

***********************************************************

Sure this one lacks if you're fussy. This book is to be honest missing a real (unique) storyline (it all happens during the same time frame as the former book), but I'm forgiving. There is after all a lovestory that develops over time.

Down and Dirty (the audiobook edition) just makes my secret me happy to listen to h@rny needy older men. ~ Manly alpha male characters, as my favorite here, are just so very cute and sweet to 'watch & hear' when they are a bit fragile and newly in love. Are their interest in a cheeky younger Japanese —a tattoo artist with pink underwear and red jeans— as well, is it just adorable drooling-sweet to follow.

Moreover, it is always fun to get a glimpse of the whole lovely gang of friends from previous books. ~ And the epilogue was cute and nice. I left them in a good place.

***********************************************************

I'm in a good mood (it's Friday) and extra (raiting) kind today. I rounds up to four stars just because (...this is so d@rn fun and cozy to listening to).

If you already are a admirer of these Rhys Ford books is this new installment of course a must. (Maybe even better as a audiobook?) Yet another book part is planned (#6 - Dirty Heart) and that book is (so far) supposed to be the final. We will see!

I LIKE - when my naughty me is happily sappy-smiling

**3.75 Stars**

I was really looking forward to Bobby & Ichi's story. I love age gaps. However, I was a bit disappointed. I felt like it was a lot of what had happened in previous books. Granted, they were quick but I really wanted more time of just Bobby and Ichi and their struggles...not rehashing what had previously happened from a different POV. I also just wanted more. It was short and I felt like I missed a lot of their relationship development. I still love them as a couple though like I knew I would.

**** 4 Sunshine stars ****

----------------------------
"Hang on to me, Sunshine (...) I'm going to give you the ride of your life."
----------------------------

Finally, I got to read about what Bobby and Ichiro had been up to! That last sentence of book #4? OMG! Delivered in Bobby's subtle ways, of course.

Bobby have been present in the story of Cole McGinnis right from the start. He always came across as a man being more than what was being portrayed. He's an asshole and kind of a whore, but I feel it has been a front, hiding who he really is underneath.

---------------------------
Bobby Dawson was a scoundrel and a rogue, a bit of a rebel with a dangerous smile, and Ichiro found himself drawn to the man Cole called his best friend as if he were a moth and Bobby was the only light source left in the universe.
---------------------------

Who else to try to uncover the man beneath, but Ichiro is Cole's half brother. He is offlimits, but their attraction proves to strong.

I loved Bobby and Ichi in this story. It was great to get to know them better. I also like that this books takes place following the timeline of book #4.
I loved meeting and seeing the other charcters from the series, but from someone else's view. I love seeing a "scene" from different perspective, like this:

----------------------------
"Don't." Jae leaned in close and whispered.
"You don't know what I'm---" [Ichiro]
"I know that look. I had that look when I thought about getting together with Cole-ah in the beginning. Don't tell me I don't know."
----------------------------

----------------------------
"That's my brother you're staring at there, old man," Cole muttered into Bobby's ear as he sat down beside him. "No need to get him pregnant with your eyes."
"A guy can look, Princess," Bobby shot back (...) "Maybe you should tell your baby brother not to suck that thing [BBQ rib bone] off like he's trying to remove chrome from a tailpipe. Might give a man the wrong idea."
----------------------------

I loved that the actually talked to each other, instead of going around just thinking stuff in their heads. They knew what they were getting into could turn out all sorts of wrong. They didn't take each other's dishing out lying down either. Mostly, it's kudos to Ichiro for laying it on Bobby and not taking Bobby's shit. :D

They had to tell Cole, though:

------------------------
"So then, what do you want to do? Here. Us." (...) Now's a good time to walk away, Ichi. Before it goes any deeper between us."
"Yeah, you're not getting rid of me that easy, Dawson," Ichiro said, standing up. "Only thin you and I are going to do is... well shit, tell Cole. Because I'm not going to sneak around behind his back." (...)
"Just let me tell him. I've know him longer than you have, and to be hones, I've got a way with words. I can break it to him gently. Just wait and see. He won't even blink."
-------------------------

Hehe, yeah, right Bobby! LOL!

So, why not 5 stars? Well, I would have liked there to be more bumps in the road, or turns in any case. They getting together were a little bit straight forward. There weren't many surprises. I also missed some mystery, that wasn't part of their story, but still.,I'm also hanging on to the last star for the audio. ;)

I can't wait for the audio to be done for this book! This whole series have been narrated superbly by Greg Tremblay. Following him on FB, he's hoping that the audio will be out even earlier than the beginning of March. So I'm crossing my fingers!

Here's even an audio sample for the first 15 minutes of the book!

If you want to have the characters from this series real close. Check out the ringtones made by Tremblay. *dying* How cool is that!!

"Say goodnight, Princess" [Bobby] "Goodnight, Princess." [Cole]

Claudia: "Did you just drink the last of the coffee?"
"I like that hot cabbage stuff they make, that's good."
             "You got a message here."
"I was alright if God was comin' for me, because you were right there to see me on."

Cole:     "D-does it have eyeballs? I don't want to eat it if it has eyeballs."
"Sometimes I gotta be less of a precious special unicorn."
"I love you, man, but you're kind of a whore."
"Ah, what's the worst that can happen?"

Jae:      "Aish."

Marte's review

This was such an enjoyable story. It was like the cherry on the top!!

description

I had such a blast with this series… I’ve done all of the audio’s and as soon as this book will be released as an audiobook, I will be reading/listening to it again… Swear to God, reading this last book, I was hearing all of these voices of Greg Tremblay!!!

The growling rusky voice of Bobby, the Japanese voice of Ichi, Cole and Jae and let’s not forget Claudia!!! I could just see her standing there, scowling at Bobby and Cole… That was so much fun!!

”Scarlett honey, can you keep everyone out back over there while I get these boys' shit straightened out? Unless you're wanting a piece of their asses to chew on, because Lord knows, there's enough of it to go around."
“No, I am fine.” Scarlet murmered sweetly, but her eyes narrowed when she glanced at Cole. “I’ll take what you’ve left if I need to.”
“Not going to be much ass to kick when I get done with you all,” Claudia muttered.

My Bobby

I adored Bobby in this series, so I was excited him getting his own story..
I loved this book is following book 4 like a shadow only by Bobby’s and Ichi’s POV.. It was like reliving book 4 all over again and getting more information.

For example you experience the friendship Ichi and Jae were having. Having read the series mostly in Cole’s POV, it was refreshing to see how much Jae had grown.. Also seeing Cole and his brother Ichi bond, was nice as well.
The scene where Ichi and Cole were bystanders with a shooting and Ichi was really torn up by the risk Cole was taking with his life every day!! I found that very emotional..

”… - because I needed someone to hear me. Jae and Cole were like those bobbing head things with each other. YEP YEP, THAT’S JUST HOW COLE IS – GOTTA LOVE HIM FOR IT. I wanted to punch them both until their brains came back”

My Ichiro

Ichi was a funny man. He didn’t put up Bobby’s shit! I loved the banter between them.

”God, I’m so fucking tired. The Harley, I loved it, but it’s like riding a bone snake. I ache everywhere and not in a good way. I should have at least been fucked hard to feel like this.”

Bobby reluctance to start a relationship with Ichi was understandable and kind of sweet. He wanted to protect Ichi but also himself from hurting.

”Because if you and I go to that bed, and I get to do what I want with you, I might not ever want to let you go. Then what’s going to happen to me when you get tired of it and walk off?”

And the end was a perfect ending of the series!!

”I’m just going to ask you to give me a little bit more. I want you to give me all of you.

I’m going to miss the guys 

It's really just another rating with a comment...

'Down and Dirty' is the 5th book in the Cole McGinnis series and while it's in some ways maybe not the best it's totally still one of my favs because it's about Bobby and Ichi and I adore these two seriously hard core adore them. So while there's a bit of repetition because events here overlap with events from 'Dirty Deeds' the perspective here is mostly Bobby's and a bit of Ichi's giving things a bit of a different twist and I admit it when it comes to Bobby and Ichi, I'm an easy sell.

As always Greg Tremblay's narration was fabulous and he brought the story to life for me, cementing Bobby and Ichi's place in my heart. Well that's it for me. I'm off to curl up with the last book in this series and watch some Christmas movies while I wait to see what Santa has brought me.

Sept. 13/18 - I love Bobby and Itchy's story the first time around and that hasn't changed. It may not have held the mystery and suspense of the other Cole McGinnis books but getting to know these two better and see their relationship unfold was worth it and one more book to go and it's back to the real world. I'll miss these men but we'll visit again of this I'm sure.

I loved Bobby and Ichi’s story! I’ve been a fan of Bobby since we were introduced to him back in the beginning. He’s been a good friend to Cole, but he’s got a troubled past. He struggles to feel comfortable in his own skin as a gay man. He has commitment issues and doesn’t do monogamy. I can understand why Cole would warn Bobby to stay away from his younger brother, Ichi.

This was a little different than the other Cole McGinnis books. Most of this happens during the same time frame as Dirty Deeds, so there’s no new murder/mystery involving Cole or Jae-Min. They do appear in this book, but it really is Bobby and Ichi’s story. I love how Ichi and Jae-Min are becoming close friends. Their trip to the old theater across the street from Ichi’s shop was hilarious! And the ending was unbelievably sweet!

3-5star.png (1276×256):

This is the 5th book in this series and also the first book that is not about Cole and Jae. This is Bobby and Ichy's story. Even though this book was quite enjoyable...to me the MC's, couldn't hold a candle to Cole and Jae.

I loved Bobby in all the previous books, but that's the thing. I loved him being Cole's best friend and for me, I would have been happy with him just staying that way. For some reason I felt bad for Cole...like he was gonna lose his best friend to his brother.

d0514e7d8aa42f8591096801a3d2091c21b4b3d-wm.jpg (640×920):

I know Cole didn't see it like that, but I just couldn't help feeling that way...

The plot also isn't the same as the others books. For one, there aren't any brains exploding. I missed all the mystery and excitement. For me the best parts of this story were the parts Cole was in. This books takes place around the same time as book 4 and there isn't really a whole lot going on, except for Bobby and Ichy's growing relationship. Cole's story (book 4) is in the background.

The marriage proposal also pissed me off. I want Cole and Jae to get married...not them....sigh...I might me a bit bitter LOL.

I liked the part with Jamie, Bobby's son, but I also think their situation was a bit too easily fixed.

I have high hopes for book 6, which is about Cole and Jae again...

Bobby is this big surly, hard-living, alpha ex-cop heart-of-gold guy who most everyone steers clear of unless they want him just for the night. He's not long-term love interest material. Ichi doesn't get that at all. He sees Bobby Dawson for what he really is, the very best man who will love him forever and ever exactly the way Ichi needs, hard and without falter. No one but Bobby can see that Ichi is the kind of guy who can become your home and your whole life. Together they are two parts of a whole and reading how they figure it out is luscious. Even if you don't fall in love with the characters––which is close to impossible--you'll fall under the spell of Rhys Ford's gorgeous prose. Highly recommended.

3.5 stars. I put this off and put it off because I just wasn't really interested in Bobby and Ichi as MCs. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but I love them as Cole's best friend and brother. However, I really wanted to read Dirty Heart and my book-OCD would not let me skip in a series so here we are.

I never thought I'd say this about a Rhys Ford book but this just didn't click for me. I didn't really care about them as a couple and I didn't really get any chemistry. I was disappointed but still it wasn't terrible. I just wanted to be reading about Cole and Jae.

Ms Ford's always excellent writing was still highly readable and I finshed it, as usual with her stories, pretty damn quick. :) On to the next! *soon*

This was awesome! The chemistry between Bobby and Ichi was great. I loved the dynamic between the two and their banter was perfect!

Some of my favorite parts were the conversations bewteen Jae and Ichi when talking about Cole. Jae has come along way with his feelings and it was great to read. I also loved when Cole and Ichi were together. Ichi thinks Cole is crazy lol, but he loves him and is worried about him.

Of course, I still love the friendship between Cole and Bobby. They are really like brothers themselves.

Lastly, Mike is still a dick. Great book!

Oh man, Ichi and Bobby were FABULOUS! The sex was hot, the action was good, and it's always great to see Jae and Cole and the gang. Claudia was particularly awesome in this, and I didn't even expect to see her, since this wasn't a Cole & Jae story.

My only real problem while reading this story was memory. It takes place pretty much concurrent with the previous book in the series, and I kept getting pulled out trying to remember details, but that's more a personal thing, for people like me with awful memories.

I missed my Cole.
Bobby and Ichi were nice, but they were no Cole.

The narrator of this audio book, Greg Tremblay, was awesome, as usual.

I liked Bobby, but more as Cole’s best friend than as a man in his own novel.
I did love Ichi though.

Not much more to say about this. It was good, but I liked the books about Cole and Jae a lot more.

2.5 stars

What I liked about earlier books (the first one, especially) in this series was the zany, out-of-control aspect to Cole and Jae-Min’s characters and actions. All the fireworks around them. And the added color of the Korean culture. And this mystery of why Cole’s cop-partner went crazy on his ass, seriously injuring Cole and then turning the gun on himself.

Here we are at book five and still no real answers to that mystery. And this book has switched from Cole’s perspective to his best friend Bobby and brother Ichi’s POV. Because these two have hooked up. We have the colorful cultural mix continuing but while the switch in perspective is refreshing, I find the action on the dull side. What we get are Bobby and Ichi’s experience of the same action that took place in book four. In other words… nothing new really happens. And we get a whole lot of ‘what will we do when Cole finds out we’ve been boning each other?’ talk. Or ‘what will happen when Bobby comes out to Jamie?'-- his twenty-something son. Oh dear. (I bet you can guess what Cole will do without reading the book. And the build up to Jamie finding out his dad is gay fizzles to not that big a deal.)

While I did like Bobby and Ichi, I found their story on the boring side. And, as usual, the writing is not to my taste. We’re told so much when I’d really just like to experience it. For example, Bobby has a filthy mouth but I can’t really remember anything that he said that struck me as particularly dirty. I was told a lot about how they shouldn’t be together and when they finally do come together, it’s not particularly noteworthy.

Once again, this is clearly a case of ‘me not the book’ because it has received many glowing reviews. I really liked the first book but the rest have gradually diminished in their appeal. A whole year passes from the beginning to the end of this book with no new information about Sheila’s actions from book four. I just want to know about that bloody mystery and am wondering how much longer this can be spun out before getting an answer. I wish I could give this 3 stars but I just found it ‘ok’.

Bobby and Ichi's story! Loved it.

Bobby has quite the reputation as a manwhore. We don't really learn much about his personal life or past in the previous books, so there's a lot to learn about him in Down and Dirty. Bobby married young, when he got a girl pregnant. He was still deep in denial about being gay and it was a different world back then. His marriage is long gone, now, and his son is in his late twenties. And, though Bobby is out in most aspects of his life, he still plays some things close to his chest. He's more vulnerable than he lets on, for instance.

Ever since Bobby first laid eye's on Cole's younger brother, he was smitten. Definitely smitten. He covered that reaction with his usual pervy remarks, and Cole told Bobby, unequivocally, to stay away from his brother. But the heart wants what it wants, and so does the dick, I suppose.

Ichiro is a young Japanese tattoo artist and Bobby's best friend Cole's younger brother. Ichi's bisexual and has long since stopped trying to please his father. Ichi sees something in Bobby that no one else sees, including Bobby. And Ichi pretty much goes after Bobby with everything he has. Once Ichi makes a decision that he wants something, he is unstoppable.

The first half, or so, of Down and Dirty takes place concurrently with Dirty Deeds. Bobby and Ichi keep finding themselves in each others company. This story was a slower burn than Cole and Jae's story was. And Bobby tries to fight his attraction to Ichi, using every excuse he can think of to stay away. When they finally succumb to their desires, it was hot. But, of course, who knows what will happen when Cole finds out! Well, we get to find that out, too, and it was exciting there for a bit. Thank FSM for Claudia and her momma voice!

I loved this story (love the whole series!) and can't wait to read the next (and last) book! I really want to see the outcome of the little cliffhanger bomb the author dropped on us!

If you've read the Cole McGinnis series to this point, you are already familiar with Cole's bad boy best friend, Bobby. A love 'em and leave 'em type of guy, the words 'relationship' and 'fidelity' aren't in his vocabulary.

Then he meets Cole's brother, Ichiro, and suddenly the bad boy is wanting to settle down. Of course, first he has to get beyond the fact that the man he has suddenly fallen for is the same age as his son. Ichi is totally down with hooking up with the much older man, but there is Cole to be considered. Cole has made it clear that Bobby is to stay far, far away from his baby brother. What happens if Bobby pulls a disappearing act and hurts Ichi later? This would force Cole to choose between the man he loves as a brother and his actual brother.

This has so many things I love. There's a substantial age difference, which is one of my favorite things in the books I read. I'm also all about books that have bad boy characters - who you think are incapable of settling down - who find the one person worth settling down for. The author wrote that extremely well and I have no doubt that everyone who has followed this series to this point will be very happy with the way she wrote Bobby and Ichiro's story. The sex, as always with this author, is off the charts. All your faves from the series are here, though in secondary form this go 'round. Cole's reaction to Bobby and Ichi hooking up is priceless.

Overall, an outstanding addition to the series. We've wanted to see Bobby settle down for awhile now, and I can't imagine his story being written any other way. I know fans of the series will agree.

An ARC of this book was provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What happens when Cole's BFF and baby brother get together? Fireworks and plenty of trouble that's what.

Bobby - eternal, self proclaimed man whore, he's really just trying to fill a void he doesn't know is there or has forgotten. There was surprising depth to this character and we see a side of him that has been largely glossed over. He has a pretty brutal past and has been running from it for quite awhile.

Ichiro - rebellious but kind hearted. He struggles with his own demons and fears regarding Cole, his father and his own sad past. Inexplicably he seeks solace in the gruff older man and the feeling is mutual. He's actually more the aggressor and is not some simpering person to just let Bobby have his way with him. He has demands and he's not afraid to voice them.

Each of these men try to deny their attraction - neither can stay away. Steamy, affecting and poignant.

First there was Princess and now we have Sunshine. Bobby loves his nicknames. Rhys Ford has done a fantastic job creating a cohesive series of super-likable characters. Bobby has been a favorite character and I am thrilled that he got his own story. I personally wish that his paramour wasn't quite so young and wasn't Ichi, but I understood why the author would go this route. Personally preferences aside, this was a satisfying installment that will be enjoyed by fans of the series.

By the way, was I asleep at the wheel, or was the fact that new information in this book?

Props to the narrator who handles multiple voices, including English speaking Korean and Japanese characters, without resorting to jokey stereotypes. They were realistic and well done.

Bobby’s story! Woot!

Or should I say Ichi’s story? No, it was definitely Bobby’s story!

Woot!

An important first point: let me say that you must have read the other books for this to really mean anything to you. There are snatches of moments taken from the previous books to give you a time line so that the view as seen from a different angle makes more sense, but Ford does not “backfill” too much. She assumes you are an informed reader. (Thank you!)

This is pretty straightforwardly Bobby and Ichi’s love story. There is no mystery (those were Cole’s to solve and we see them through Bobby and Ichi’s lenses only.) We learn what makes Bobby and Ichi tick (mostly Bobby) and then we learn how they can fit together.

It. Was. Wonderful!

I absolutely loved digging deep into Bobby’s psyche. He’s a unique character, with years of experience that Jae and Cole don’t have. His history (being a closeted gay cop) must mirror what so many men of his generation experienced and it serves as a reminder for how far we (as a culture) have come along (hopefully) in our acceptance of “other” in our society. There was even a story thrown in as told by an older man who had similar experiences with his mixed marriage, that is, he was subjected to questions and cruelty as well.

Without reading this book, you may be worried that Bobby couldn’t possibly be seen as someone to trust in a long-term relationship. What Ford did was show us, by slowly peeling back the layers, just why Bobby is EXACTLY the type of guy you should trust in a long-term relationship. It was very elegantly done and felt completely organic.

Ichi’s history surprised me a bit too. There are things we find out that explain some of his personality; information about his mother (Cole’s too) and father and step-mother… fascinating. He’s an old soul and perfectly matched for Bobby.

I found the lack of mystery refreshing, not that the mysteries in Cole’s books aren’t great, but we got a chance to really focus on the characters in this book. Ford spends a lot of time developing these complex, rich characters (main and secondary) and this book show-cases that effort.

The ending was absolutely THE BEST. First, the way Jamie finds out Bobby is gay and then, the last scene at the tattoo shop… (le sigh) grab some tissues, it’s just wonderful. It feels so complete, but is just open enough that it hints at more excitement that we could see in upcoming book(s). I hope that both Bobby and Ichi (and maybe even Jamie?) will continue to play big roles in any future book(s).

Well done Rhys Ford, well done!

Audio

Greg Tremblay has done this entire series, so we are familiar with his deliciously growly Bobby and the exquisite way he handles all the variety of Asian accents.

I think he does another outstanding job with Down and Dirty. The emotion Bobby shows and the tenderness from Ichi are breathtaking.

I absolutely loved this audiobook and highly recommend it along with the entire series.

I highly recommend this and give it 6 of 5 hearts!

I admit I wasn't really in a hurry or really looking forward to this book since I knew it was about Bobby and Ichi and although I liked them well enough I wasn't excited about reading a book about them as MC's. However, I am really glad that I did and I was very pleasantly surprised.

This book is told in the 3rd person from both Bobby and Ichi's POV and we finally get to know these characters a lot better. I'm never crazy about the whole "my sibling is off limits" plot but given Bobby's history with men and the big age difference I could understand it a lot more in this book.

Bobby has always been a great best friend to Cole but it's no secret he jumps from man to man and sometimes multiple men with no emotional involvement. He does however have a heart of gold and is always there for whatever Cole needs. He's drawn to Ichi and although I wasn't 100% always clear why I believed it. Ichi is drawn to the gruff and loyal friend that Bobby is and he's an "old soul" so the two actually fit together well.

Parts of this book are about events we have already read about in the previous books but they are scenes/POVs that we haven't read. Also in this book it's about the relationships and there is no big mystery/case that is a big part of the focus. Instead we find out a lot more about the backgrounds and feelings of both Bobby and Ichi.

So on the whole it's quite different than the other books in this series but still wonderfully written and a great chance to take a breather and get to know the characters a lot better. I'm looking forward to reading the last book in this series.

Belens Audio Book Review

There will be no spoilers here! This installment of the Cole McGinnis "Dirty" series takes a bit a twist in this is entirely from Cole's best friend, Bobby, and Cole's brother Ichi's points of view. I really liked this story, especially because of the dual POV between Ichi and Bobby.

Once again, Greg Tremblay makes this audio a winner. He is a BOSS! He brings this story to life in such an awesome way.

For me, it's the narration makes Rhys Ford's fantastic world building come to life.

I'm really looking forward to reading the final installment, well, listening to the final installment. I just hope Rhys Ford ties up all the loose ends with the Ben storyline...and maybe gives a little more from Jae's POV too? A girl can hope!

fingers crossed

Recommended.

So May/December romances...

not usually my thing, but I am very willing to make an exception for Bobby and Ichiro. I have really, really liked both of these men from the word go. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about them together because of the age difference but it's Rhys Ford and I have faith. My faith was rewarded.

I love Bobby and Ichiro together, they work. Don't ask me why or how. I really can't explain it, but after having read this story I just can't imagine these men with anyone but each other.

This series was my introduction to the author Rhys Ford and it makes me sad to think that there's only one more book to come and then the series is done and yet ironically I sit here with grabby hands wanting that book and diligently hoping that as well as more Cole and Jae, Rhys will give us more Bobby and Ichiro...please?

After the high octane excitement of Cole and Jae, plus all the friction and tension of their realtionship, this was a sweet and direct antidote.

I might be the oddball here, but I really enjoy when a book in a series coincides with the previous book in events but is told from different POV. Ichiro is almost complete opposite of Cole, and I liked how he struggled and tried to understand his brother and his ways. Ah, and here is Bobby. Who knew that under all the layers of sarcasm and gruffness hides a kind heart that's been broken? There are secrets that Bobby hides, and I was really surprised by some of what he revealed to Ichi.

This was not suspenseful or fast-paced but it did offer a glimpse into Bobby's everyday life and Ichiro's family issues. It was at times heart-breaking and at times very amusing. I honestly didn't know just how much Bobby cared about Cole and how important he was in Bobby's life. So all the times Bobby was present when Cole got his a$$ kicked made so much sense as well as the circumstances to how their friendship started. Or and Ichi and Bobby together - so cute and delicious! I liked the self-deprecating humor, a bit of sarcasm but most of all how in love they were at the end. Another good addition to the series!

Read in both ebook and audio. The audio for the entire Dirty series is amazing. I highly recommend it.
