Irons: Book One

Rate this book
Jax
I was born and bred to be the man I am today. My father and his father were both graduates from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Both went on to become helicopter pilots. Both had seen plenty of action. Both had met and caused devastation. Both men, who I respect more above all, had served and protected the United States and her people honorably for decades.
My best friend, William Cruz, who attended the academy with me, had flown beside me, had lived the same life as I had and shared the same ambitions in life, was gone now. This was not part of the plan. Will and I were supposed to have each other’s backs, support each other and never let anything supersede our bond.
Francesca
I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful day in May and I was cutting class. I had done the same every year since he passed.
Jaxson Irons was only supposed to be in Pensacola for a year. But now three years later I still hadn't heard from him. I saw a man running down the beach and I knew immediately who it was.
Jaxson didn't respond the way I had dreamed he would. He told me we would catch up someday soon. I stood and watched until he was gone.
Thump, thump. I placed my hand on my chest as I felt my heart beat again for what felt like the first time in three years. Thump, thump. I felt the blood moving quickly through my body. It’s heat once again present. Thump, thump. I looked up at the sky and let out a breath. A breath that I had been holding forever. Thump, thump.
I felt tears fall down my face as I raised my hands in the air and laughed out loud. Just then the clouds parted for the first time in forever. I saw the sun smiling down on me.

************************SPOILER ALERT (MAYBE)***********************************

This book is different from the other ones MJ has written, mainly because I didn't want to kill the main lead, okay that's not true I wanted to kill him at times especially when his balls would shrivel up and he can't man up and make his parents see s***, but other than that he wasn't a cheater (always a plus in my book ladies). He also is well endowed we can totally thank Frankie for that little fact, "Jax." I sat up and undid his pants. "Jesus, that thing is huge." Jax has some erm.... anger issues is what you would call them, "oh that's right, I can eff you, lick and eat you without knowing you're effing a guy who happens to be your boyfriend that marks yous A**!" Okay so there's a little bit of cheating but it's not the guy this time I mean that stands for something, also Jax makes a stand which in MJ's other books you didn't really see the other person give an ultimatum, "when you've broken up with him, that's all yours." I pulled my pants up and adjusted myself as I buttoned and zipped. "Until then, you don't get that part of me." Frankie she is insecure and honestly I just wanted to b****-slap her and tell her to freakin' grow a pair and get over and just work her s*** out. And yes ladies there is sort of a cliffhanger but it wasn't bad I didn't think and that coming from me is kinda huge and there will be two more parts, not sure why there can't be just one more part because that means we have to wait to see what the eff happens between Frankie and Jax. Personally they both need some balls to stand up for themselves.

This was such an insane read -- in a good way! M. J. Fields is brilliant and I definitely plan to read the next book.

I gave this a 4.5 star rating simply because Frankie was too childish and I wanted to know more about Jaxson's family.

This follows both Jaxson "Jax" Irons and Francesca "Frankie" Cruz. Jaxson has just lost his bestfriend Will and Will is Frankie's older brother. During the time of the funeral Frankie kisses Jax and admits her feelings. Jax is stunned amd leaves.

After 3 years they are reunited. Frankie still has feelings for him, but she has a dark past. Jax has fallen for her but never had a stable relationship. Somehow, someway they work things out build a great relationship.

Jax is an awesome guy. Granted he treated women like crap majority of the time but he treated Frankie differently. With love and care. Jax admitted things were new to him and even though it was hard for me he still tried to make the relationship work for him.

Frankie is a very insecure young lady. Ever since her brother died she became hooked on sex and alcohol as an escape from the hurt and pain she felt. She totally got on my nerve majority of time because she whined too damn much. Especially on the scenes when she told him to go with Mimi...I want to punch her in the face for being whinny and dramatic.

The sex scenes were damn near intense and vulgar, but very enjoyable nonetheless. If you are not a sex kind of person I would say don't read this book because sex is throughout the book whether spoken or physically done.

That ending surprised the hell out of me. What happened to Frankie was wrong. What Jax found out about him and Mimi was a shocker and I just need to know more!!! Jaxson's mother pissed me off completely. I totally dislike her.

Overall I definitely plan to read the sequel and read more of M. J. Fields work.

Jax irons loose his best friend Will in accident but more than anything he is now afraid he will loose his family. After Will funeral you meet Frankie and her parents. Jax is going away and Frankie is devastated that after loosing her brother she now will loose Jax that man she has loved since she was 12 years old.

3 years later Frankie is now a women and she has not seen Jax in three years. But after a chance meeting she see him again. But this time Jax is not able to stay way.

"I held her tighter and made a silent promise to my brother by choice, her brother by blood, that I would never stop taking care of this woman, not until my last breath."-Jax

I love Mj fields Steel man series but I am now torn because I think I love Jax Irons more. Jax is a hard to love man because of his family and there ambitions. He was not taught to love but he wants more than anything to love Frankie. But Frankie is not ready to be in his life style. Jax family does not want her to be in his life either. Frankie pushes and shoves Jax but he holds strong that he want her.

" I thought you broke something inside of me, until i realized you just opened up a part of me I didn't know existed. In doing that, you became a part of me."- Jax

But during this time not only do they have their on struggles but you meet Joel Frankie ex and her demons from there relationship. You also meet Mimi the women that Jax family wants in his life. But secrets from both Jax and Mimi past come to light. The irons family has some skeletons in the closet that could hurt there path to power. Jax is only a pawn in there political game and they want Frankie out.

Irons not only has Mj naughty but it has mystery leaving you want more of Irons. But you can love Jax and Frankie more together but they have along path ahead to come as a couple.

You also meet Jax friends Shadows and Titan that hit you with some one liners that make you laugh.

"To us who live and us who breath, to brothers who we lost at sea. To booze and boats and bikes and babes. Come on Jax, tell me this toast made you cave."

But with Frankie love Jax is prepared to fight but now he just to put a plan in to play....

I cant not wait for the Norfolk series book 2!!!!

4.5 Stars!!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story really surprised me, in a good way. What I thought was going to be a sweet but heartbreaking story about two people who manage to come together after a tragedy, was pretty much the opposite of what this story is. Don't get me wrong, two people do come together (all kinds of puns intended) after a tragedy, but it was far from sweet and heartbreaking. Well, the heartbreaking still occurred, but for various reasons. The even bigger surprise is the mystery element that was also happened, I sure wasn't expecting that, so that added even more to the story.

I thought MJ Fields did a good job with the character dialogue, especially when it came to Jax and his fellow SEALs (I'm former military who happened to be stationed with all branches of the US military). I will say that it took a good long while for Jax to grow on me, because I just did NOT like him at the beginning of the book. I think the biggest reason was that he felt he had to go tattle on Frankie to her parents; not at all cool for a badass SEAL lol. Plus, there's alpha male then there over-the-top to the point of being an asshat alpha male, and to me, Jax was the asshat alpha male. But once you learn a bit more about him, it's easy to see why he is the way he is.

Francesca (Frankie) has been in love with Jax since she was 12, and was even further devastated when Jax suddenly dropped out her and her family's lives after the death of her brother and his best friend Will. They reconnect 3 years later and attempt to start a relationship, but they've each got their own issues and demons to deal with that leads to miscommunication and hurt feelings on both sides. Add the mystery twist and you've got one book that will keep you reading without stopping until you reach the end, and at that point you will want to plead, beg, cry and possibly bribe MJ Fields to hurry up with the next book in the series.

This is my first MJ Fields book and im quite impressed. its very well written and the characters are amazing. Jax is the hot sexy alpha Navy guy who lost his best friend Will in the line of duty ..... In comes Francesca. She is Will's Sister and only 18 when her brother dies, but has been in love with Jax forever. They lose touch when Jax ships out but a chance meeting 3 years later and WHAM BAM THANK YOU MAME' ... sparks fly, we get some seriously hot as f*** sex scenes, (that man can talk dirty to me anytime) some angst, some romance and a whole lot of heartache. We definitely have some twists with a few turns thrown in there for good measure. They both have personal demons to fight and conquer, but in the end can love conquer it all ? its definitely worth the read to find out.

The characters are written well, Frankie is a huge smart ass and gives and good as she gets, and Jax is tough as nails, but definitely has a soft side for Frankie. The side characters are written very well and i'd love to see some of the boys get their own stories ... they all have a story to tell ,and i for one and definitely willing to listen. The grammar and spelling are good and the story flows very well. There were a few spots that it got a bit to wordy for me, but on the whole it was an amazing read
I would definitely recommend this book and cant wait to see what comes next and whose story needs to be told

WOW!!! Holy crap!!! This book is hella good!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I have read by MJ Fields & this book did not disappoint.

Jaxson Irons is a Navy flyboy & he is hot, hot, HOT!!!!! Jaxson was raised in a family where you do your duty & never show emotions. He comes from a political family & is being groomed for that lifestyle, himself. So when his best friend died in a horrible accident he cut himself of from Will’s family, including his little sister, Francesca. Three years after Will’s death he runs into Frankie on the beach. She is now a college junior & he is bowled over by what he feels in that moment, so when she tries to get him to come to dinner with her & her parents, he comes up with an excuse.

Francesca Cruz, college student & little sister to Will. She has been in love with Jax since she was 12 years old. When she lost her brother her world collapsed because she also lost Jax. Frankie lost her way for a while but seemed to be finding it again, at least until Jax moves back to town & blows her off with what she later realizes is an excuse. When she sees him later that night at a bar she realizes that he lied to her & she starts acting out.

Then things start getting interesting… This is part one of a three part series & is definitely for those over the age of 18.

My Rating:

3.75

Favorite Quote:

“I don’t want to look in the mirror and not see you standing in front of me. So whatever we have to do to make this work, we do it. If you tell me you love, you damn well better not stop because I want that from you. I want your love Frankie. I need it like I need my next breath.”

My Review:

Jaxson Irons sounds like two hands full - pun intended. He is handsome, fit, bossy, cocky, and multi-talented in every room of the house – and yes - he even cooks! But he does come with a pesky and overly ambitious political family, who don’t seem to play well with others… The story is a rather angsty for my tastes, and made me work a bit harder than I wanted to with the jumpy dialog and constant conflict. Although, despite my pet peeves, I still wanted to know what was going to happen next. And - oh my - the steamy love scenes! Ms. Fields certainly has that skill mastered! Their bed sizzled and popped like crispy bacon. I was invested in the characters and hoping for a happy resolution, but then it just… stopped. But that is the gamble we take with series books. It can’t be called “stand alone,” but I take solace in the fact that at least it wasn’t an overly dramatic or overblown cliffhanger.

5 Star Read

MJ has done it again!! Steamy, passionate, sexy, and heartbreaking stories are her specialty. I got sucked into the story from the very first page.

Jaxson "Jax" Irons is a true alpha and so very HOT. Francesca "Frankie" Cruz has been friends with Jax for a long time. Frankie's brother William "Will" Cruz and Jax were best friends. After Will died Jax cut himself off from Will's family.

Now years later he runs into Frankie. Attraction is there but should they act on it? Frankie has loved Jax forever. She wonders does he want her because he misses his best friend? Or does he want her for himself? Can she get him to see that they belong together? Will things in the past come back to ruin what they are trying to build together? Or is the danger that could break them apart lurking closer then they think?

Loved the side characters in the story can't wait for the next book in this series.

MJ Fields has done it again. She has captured her readers in this amazing story about love, loss and first time emotions. Jax is Pilot, who has lost his best friend and lives without emotions. Until he meets Frankie! Frankie lost her brother who she loved with all her heart. She's been in love with his best friend since she was 12 and she is finally going to tell him. When Jax finally knows how Frankie feels about him, he has a really hard time dealing with his friends. Will Jax and Frankie end up together? Love, sex, loss, friendship, protection, major emotions, lies that they have to work through. This is an awesome story that keeps you reading til the very end.

MJ Fields has once again written a fantastic book! She had me "ugly" crying at the beginning at such an emotional scene. I felt like I was there. I read this book in one setting it was so good!!!

I love the hot alpha military men and the strong leading lady. Jax and Frankie are such strong willed people but their hearts are full of love. This is a story of heart ache and happiness.

I have read every book MJ Fields has written and I have never been disappointed and am definitely not disappointed with IRONS!!

If you love hot sexy alpha men in uniform then this is a must read!!

The author (wrongly) states in the book that you have to be 40 to be president (please use google) and that was just the most inane of my problems with this book. I try not to give highly negative reviews lightly, but this one had so many glaring issues that I almost DNF. I finished mainly because I had to know if she was going to tie up the crazy plot. Spoiler: she doesn't.

TL;DR: don't waste your time with this book, if you enjoy books about military alphas with subplots of political intrigue, please go read Julie Ann Walker.

At this point I have read a lot of romance novels and this one represents pretty much every negative stereotype about the genre.

A few things that upset/annoyed me about this book.
1. The aforementioned lack of tying up the plot. There were so many characters and threads that were seemingly introduced haphazard and then never talked about again or picked up at the end with a deus ex machina type explanation it was infuriating. I.e: Frankie, a strong independent woman who has taken her brother's death to heart is doing life-changing research about how he died, it's never mentioned again that she's even in school until the very and and it's just a "oh, I'm a mother, student, blah blah blah". Also, Frankie's attack is barely mentioned again, it's here mainly as a plot device.

2. Jaxson is not an alpha, he's a border-line abusive asshole. Yes he had a rough life, etc. But his behavior shouldn't be romanticized in any, way shape or form. Yes, I have read books about alphas, this is the first one where I doubted the mental health of the writer. Go read Julie Ann Walker if you want to see this done well.

3. The sex scenes were written like how-to manuals. Again, I've read a lot of romance novels, if I hadn't read the author's bio, I would have thought this was written by a man due to some fundamentally anatomically difficult things that happen in this book.

All in all, don't bother. The plot barely makes sense, fundamentally misunderstands how our political system works (even with the pretend conspiracies that supposedly exist), and is full of barely redeemable flat characters.

This book really has many different parts to it. First you have Jax, or Jaxson Irons, Navy pilot and friend to William Cruz. They went to the Naval Academy together but really have been best friends’ way before that because Jaxson parents were never around because his father was into politics. Now William is killed in a helicopter crash and the day of the funeral his sister Francesca decides to let Jax know that she has been in love with him for years. Just turned 18 and shocking Jax she does it again by kissing him. He drives away on his bike. Three years later they met again and this time they end up in bed together and after this it is like Jax can’t decide whether he wants to be with her or not. On top of their romps in the sack you have someone who is threatening him and then ends up threatening Francesca. They decide to marry to end whatever threat to her might be, but after the marriage he, Jax is in a helicopter crash himself and now of course he cannot remember being married, and someone stole the record of the marriage out of the county office they were married from. When you think the book is going to come back and there can’t be anything else his father is killed, or it at least appears that way. Now that he remembers he married Francesca they decide to do it again. You will be surprised who is behind all of this and the reasons. Jax can be a jerk at times worse than some of the authors other characters, but having all of the different characters help this story move along and especially Shadow his character was really good. Many hot bedroom scenes, politics, and a mystery that for some reason actually works, overall a good book. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Punctuation and paragraphing erratic and completely non-standard. Those issues plus clunky writing made this one a tough read. Once we added in constantly drunk characters who never check their IDs or moderate their outlandish, emotional reactions, and I saw no one to like and no reason to continue reading. Skipping ahead, it seems that our very coarse military/student partners are now part of extremely wealthy and well-connected political families and, in fact, one main character is being groomed to be president. Of the U.S. 😂 I’m glad the story moved beyond all the lying/cheating/drinking and on/off relationship (multiple times daily) of the first act, but my disbelief stretched way beyond the breaking point far before Part 2.

An author’s note at the end of the book explains that she self-publishes a novel every month. This novel was quite long, so that’s an impressive feat. I think her work would improve with both a heavy copy edit and either a strong developmental edit or a co-author.

It’s Good But…

Why wasn’t this proofread? So many errors pulled me from the story which had a strong premise but was a bit loosely written. A bit too much sex, not enough talking and plot progression. But I’m going to soldier on to book two in hopes the second is better. Maybe. Fingers crossed.

«𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙥𝙖𝙢𝙞, 𝙅𝙖𝙭. 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝙩𝙪𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙯𝙯𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚…» 𝙈𝙞 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤, 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙯𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙖, 𝙚 𝙨𝙞 𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙢ò 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙞. «𝙎𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙡 𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙤, 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙚. 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙞 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙞 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙪𝙤𝙞 𝙨𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙚». 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙞 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙖 𝙡’𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖.
«𝙑𝙤𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙤 𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙤 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙪𝙤𝙞 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞. 𝙑𝙤𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙤 𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙞 𝙩𝙚».

Cliffhanger

Good story but too many leftovers. I absolutely hate books that don't finish the story. I hope I get around to the next book.

Meh. Way too much drama. And to drag that rubbish out over more than one book is insufferable.

Come andrà a finire? Non vi resta che leggerlo per scoprirlo…

A presto 😘
