De vampierkoning heeft ons de oorlog verklaard en we zijn er totaal niet op voorbereid. Als we ook maar een kans willen maken, hebben we een leger nodig. Maar bondgenoten vinden in een wereld vol eeuwenoude vijanden is allesbehalve eenvoudig.
Niemand weet wie deze strijd zal overleven wanneer het stof eindelijk is neergedaald. Toch is er geen weg meer terug. Als we deze wereld willen redden, zal ik elke kant van mezelf moeten omarmen… zelfs de delen waar ik het meest bang voor ben.
Mijn ervaring:
Wat een grandioos, spannend en ijzersterk vervolg op het verhaal van Grace en haar vrienden. De dreiging van de oorlog is voortdurend tastbaar en de inzet is groter dan ooit. Terwijl de vampierkoning steeds sterker lijkt te worden en zijn plannen verder doorzet, moeten Grace en haar vrienden alles op alles zetten om hem te stoppen. Maar voordat dat lukt, zal Grace eerst antwoorden moeten vinden over haar afkomst en haar eigen kracht, antwoorden die opnieuw voor grote onthullingen en ingrijpende veranderingen zorgen.
Tracy Wolff heeft een heerlijke, filmische, toegankelijke en vlotte schrijfstijl waardoor je moeiteloos weer volledig in het verhaal wordt gezogen. Court 1 en Court 2 sluiten naadloos op elkaar aan en voelen daardoor als één groot, doorlopend avontuur. Het tempo ligt hoog en het verhaal zit vol actie, drama, spanning en romantische ontwikkelingen. Alles voelt nog intenser dan in het vorige deel.
De kracht van deze serie zit voor een groot deel in de personages. Grace groeit verder in haar rol en leert omgaan met de verantwoordelijkheden en krachten die bij haar afkomst horen. Ook de andere personages krijgen opnieuw veel diepgang. Hun innerlijke conflicten, de sterke groepsdynamiek en de spanningen binnen de groep maken het verhaal menselijk, intens en pakkend.
Dit deel voelt bovendien als het meest intense en aangrijpende deel van de serie tot nu toe. De verschillende plotlijnen lopen moeiteloos door elkaar heen zonder dat het verhaal onoverzichtelijk wordt. Dankzij het hoge tempo, de korte hoofdstukken en de vele wendingen leest het boek ontzettend verslavend. Tracy Wolff weet de spanning continu op te bouwen. Als lezer zit je in een ware achtbaan van emoties: meerdere keren zat ik met ingehouden adem, een brok in mijn keel en vol verbijstering te lezen.
Thema’s als identiteit, loyaliteit en de last van afkomst spelen opnieuw een grote rol. Ook het idee van een ‘gevonden familie’ komt in dit deel misschien wel het sterkst naar voren. Juist die onderlinge band geeft het verhaal extra emotionele kracht.

Summory book 4 part 2:
This entire part of the book takes place in around 36 hours.
The next morning, after Hudson and Grace took another step in strengthening their relationship after some tough conversations, Grace challenges Chastain. He refuses as he doesn't respect/approves of her being a gargoyle. With the green demi-god string, Grace freezes Chastain and this pisses of Jikan. He unfreezes the intire court, and transports everybody within the frozen time bubble, to the current day location of the Gargoyle court. This was Grace's hope and after having an extremely frustrating conversation with Chastain, she gets his God Stone ring and he fortifies with the rest of al the army. With al the gargoyles being frozen, the poison will not spread and thus kill the gargoyles. Remy and Caulder show up to help Grace and they join the group.
With the God Stone obtained, de group travels to the Vampire court, to fulfill Grace's end of the bargain with Cyrus. Of course he loopholes his way kind of out of the deal. When Grace gets a physical hold on him, she travels in to a memory of Cyrus. It took place more than a thousand years ago. He was already planning for world domination. He talks to his advisor about a witch that is in love with him and is with child. Grace also learns about what Cyrus really thinks of his wife Delilah. When Cyrus notices she is looking inside his mind, Grace pulls them back to the current time and unfreezes them. Chaos has broken out in the dungeons. Grace her friends are fighting and hurt. Cyrus takes Isadora with him to his chambers and leaves Delilah to take watch over the students and faculty. Grace uses her new knowledge to bargain with Delilah. Free al the prisoners, in exchange for Delilah to get revenge on Cyrus. Delilah takes the deal.
When Hudson tries to carry Rowena, Macy's mother, out of the prison, her deal with the Crone prevents her from leaving. They can only get her out, by fulfilling her part of the deal: bring the Crones daughter to her. The group traps Isadora and they bring her to the Crone.
It is not an easy reunion. Remy and Isadora have shared a connection from the moment they met at the current Gargoyle court, and Remy goes with Isadora when she returns to Cyrus. Grace gave her options and a alternative, but it wasn't enough.
After the group is done with the Crone, they travel to Florida to compete in the Trials. Grace, Hudson, Jaxon, Macy, Flint, Eden, Mekhi, Remy, Cauldor, Dawoud, Byron and Rafael.
Byron and Rafael don't make it. That means that Jaxon lost 4 of this 5 Order friends. Only Mekhi is left, and he has been infected with a shadow-insect-bite. The connection between Jaxon and Flint is showing developments that don't go unnoticed.
After winning the Trials, by showing mercy to the beast of the last trial, Grace drinks the Tears of Eleos and makes sure she pushes the cure to every gargoyle. This means that Cyrus is not linked to the poison within the gargoyles anymore. So they travel to Katmere to defeat Cyrus.
He has a plan to ascend to Godhood via a ritual that can only take place at a moon eclipse. He gathered al his armies and is protected by many witches and magical contraptions.
While being tired and beaten up by the Trials, the group take on the plan that Hudson laid out for them. Things go bad. Cauldor sacrifices herself to save Remy. Eventually Grace tries one last thing. She surrenders. A lot of talking and a smart deal, make sure that she and her friends can never be hurt by Cyrus anymore. He reveals that he had "planned this al along", and gathers the group of friends, and his wife and daughter to a machine to help him ascend.
Grace embraces her green demi-god string and with a, somewhat, dramatic transformation, she embrasures her own godhood. With the power that develops within her, she invites Isadora, also a demi-god, to help restoring the magic that was taken away. With Grace taking her rightful place, more mentally than literally, she has, unbeknownst to her, earned Chastain's respect. Because the entire Gargoyle army shows up, as Hudson gets to say: ""Your army has arrived, my queen."
Grace makes her first few queenly orders and makes sure Cyrus is neutralized. She takes all of his powers, except for his immortality.
Bringing Cyrus and Delilah to the cave of the Bloodletter, Grace finds what she expects; Alistair and Cassia have found each other. Grace frees Cassia from her own imprisonment and locks Delilah and Cyrus up for a thousand years within the cave. A thousand years for Delilah to take out her revenge on an human, but un-aging, Cyrus.
Mekhi is brought to the Vampire court, so the best healers can help his with his shadow infection.
The rest; Flint, Jaxon, Isadora, Macy, Remy, Dawoud, Hudson and Grace, return to the Lighthouse. They don't know where to go from here, but it's to soon to split up.
Three months later. Hudsons perspective.
Grace and Hudson have moved to San Diego to study and to build up the new Gargoyle court. The Daywalker rind Remy gave to Hudson, is coming in very handy. As he is now able to walk in the sun after drinking grace's blood. Grace's best (human) friend Heather also lives and studies in San Diego. She took the information about the supernatural world pretty well. They share a sweet afternoon where Eden joins them with new information about Mekhi's infection. When Eden en Heather meet each other and lock eyes for the first time, Hudson realizes that Eden will probably be around a lot more from now on.
To cure Mekhi, who is kept in descend to stop the infection from spreading, they need to go to the Shadow Queen. As they make plans to head out on a new adventure, Grace and Hudson start to pack their backs. Hudson decides that he will tell Grace what he had promised her, when he gave her the promise ring. After Hudson quotes Bayard Taylor's "Bedouin Love-Song": "I will love you, Grace, till the sun grows cold and the stars are old" (673), Grace whispers that she "remembers everything".
The Graphic Audio book has a extra (?) chapter. It's a time jump back in time. To the first morning in the Lighthouse. Hudson and Jaxon have a experimental heart to heart. After the freeing of the Unkillable Beast, the death of Luka, the escape from Katmere, the brothers are slowly repearing their relationship as they share some of their struggles and thoughts. It is during this conversation that Jaxon asks aloud, if Hudson would ever want to give up all of his powers. Hudson replies with: "Only every fucking day.", as he goes to bring Grace her breakfast.

This series guys 😩. I absolutely loved it and the ending was so wholesome. If you haven’t read it yet then please do. You won’t regret it! 5/5⭐️ book for me.
This is the fourth book in the series and you get to follow Grace and the gang again for their final battle against Silus. Will she manage to get the support she needs in time? Is she willing to risk it all to save her friends? Or will she loose everyone she loves including her gargoyle?
This series just AHHHHH, love it! It’s absolutely amazing and one of my new favorite. It was just such a nice listen and I will put this as one of the series I will never stop recommending. It had the banter, the humor, the action, the plot, the development, the characters! It had absolutely everything! So are you looking for a good romantasy? Look over here! Here’s one!

Grace is immature, whiny, weak, pathetic
such a missed opportunity because Jaxon and Hudson are the most interesting being a vampire with magic. which is something i haven't come across in other book series yet.

The group returns to find Katmere has been destroyed and everyone kidnapped by Cyrus. The group travels to the frozen realm of the gargoyle army and trains with them. They journey to Florida to compete for an elixir to heal the Gargoyle army of an ancient venom. Meanwhile, Cyrus has built a machine to transform him into a god during an eclipse, using the group’s powers. At the end, Grace’s memories are restored. I love the way Graphic Audio records stories!!!

I really liked this book, there was a lot of action. Sometimes it was a bit to much action for me. I would've loved if they would rest a little more and build there friendship/love. But I get that it was not possible in the setting it was written. I love Hudson and Grace together. And oh my, that accent from Hudson in the graphic audio. It makes it perfect 😍

Loved this book.
You don't know what the other person in any given situation is dealing with or their reasoning for being there. Tracy Wolff did a great job showing that fact and showing that leading with kindness can sometimes be the key.
