follows the heir of a powerful crime family, Semaj Blackwell, and the cunning bride he never wanted but must accept to secure a high-stakes alliance. Behind their glitzy public façade, secrets fester and unexpected loyalties are tested, igniting a chain of betrayals that threaten to destroy everything they’ve built. When a forbidden flame from Semaj’s past resurfaces, the fragile peace he clings to teeters on the brink—forcing him to choose between duty and the love he’s never forgotten. As shadows close in and enemies circle, Semaj must decide how far he’ll go to claim both his empire and the passion he can’t deny. With every dark secret exposed, loyalty is tested and hearts become as lethal as the bullets fired in the shadows. Will Semaj escape the sins of his legacy, or will the cost of his devotion be too steep to bear?
Marriage of convenience This was a new to me author. I enjoyed the flow of this book and the pacing of it. I do feel towards the end that it kind of dragged and could have been wrapped up quicker. Also, I didn’t like towards the end when the font styles started to change between regular, bold and italics that kind of messed with the flow of reading, but overall, this was a good story.
This book was so good. Carmen and Semaj were forced into an arranged marriage that neither really wanted. Carmen is out for herself and hiding secrets in the process. Semaj is just doing what his family expects of him. Once they agree on surrogacy to produce the heir the families are demanding, everything starts to hit the fan. There was so much betrayal going on. The get back that happened was epic. Carmen got everything she deserved. I was glad Semaj was reunited with his first love. He truly deserved all the happiness. I can't wait to see what the author does with the supporting characters.
