This book starts about six months after the FMC broke up with her ex (the MMC’s brother). He was in a band (I think?) and she used to travel around with him, not really thinking about the future—just living in the moment and enjoying her life. But after the breakup she realizes she wants more out of life. She needs a real goal, so she decides to spend the summer working in a small town to figure out her next step. And guess what? She ends up renting a place that turns out to be the MMC’s house… and that’s where their story begins.
First off I didn’t enjoy the dynamic between the MCs at all. It was just the FMC constantly flirting with the MMC, telling him he liked her and wanted her, while he kept denying it and then pushing her away or avoiding her for days. They annoyed me most of the time tbh + I really don’t like a guy who won’t go after the girl he wants.
Also I’m not a fan of this type of “sunshine girl” she felt more like a “pick me girl” to me and I just couldn’t connect with her.
The MMC! Didn’t like him much either. I didn’t like how he spent years fighting his feelings for her bc he thought she was too young and immature! Then she ended up dating his brother (I don’t blame her for moving on).
Even in current time, he’s STILL denying his feelings and doing everything he can to avoid her even when things are going great between them. 🤦🏻♀️ Everyone knew how he felt about her for years, his friends even his mom… they all told him to go get her from the beginning. But he was too stuck in his own head and way too stubborn.
There’s a moment around the 25% mark that pissed me off bc he was just such a jerk to the FMC. Sure he apologized and made up for it but in that moment, I just wanted to slap him.
And around the 45–50% mark, he kissed the FMC for the first time only to turn around and tell her he didn’t want a serious relationship bc he didn’t have time (and she’s not the casual hookup type). So he avoided her for a week… then came back and kissed her again only bc he got jealous after challenging her to ask another guy out (he thought she wouldn’t actually do it). Then he rejected her again. 😪
I think things start getting better between them after the 50% mark but by that point I was already too tired of all the back and forth. I just didn’t have the energy to keep going with this book.

Notes:
The h (Claire) doesn’t actually live in town, she just comes by every now and then to visit her bff who happens to be the H’s bff’s sister. That’s basically how the H and h ended up knowing each other.
The H (Miles) always had a thing for the h since the first time they met and way before she even met his brother (Paul). She was 19 and he was 25 but he totally judged her from the start and saw her as immature and way younger than him! So he missed the chance for them to be together way earlier + I don’t think a 6 year age gap is that big of a deal for him to not make a move. Even in current time and during the first 30% of the book he didn’t stop whining about their “massive age gap” like it’s a real issue 🙄... Sir, it’s just 6 years??
The h had a crush on the H too but none of that really bothered me since she wasn’t hung up on him and had already moved on with her life.
“Though, long before I even met Paul, any time we were at the same place, it was always Miles I would end up chatting with. The few times he was around after Paul and I got together, Miles would hang back with me while his brother was off getting drunk and into some kind of trouble.
At the time, it felt like I was bonding with my boyfriend’s brother, both of us knowing intimately what an idiot he could be. And before that, it felt like Miles spent time with us begrudgingly because he’d tag along with Grant.
With him also being the best friend to my best friend’s brother, we’ve been around each other more times than I can count in the six years I’ve been coming down to Seaside Point, and even though he always acted like I was a nuisance of a girl, always getting into trouble, he always said it with a hint of adoration.”

“There was a small moment in time when I thought maybe she could be mine, but as always, my brother gets what he wants, or, more accurately, what he knew I wanted, and Claire was no different.”
* * *
“You always had a thing for him, and until Paul came sniffing around, you two were always flirting back and forth.You guys used to be friends.”
I shake my head. “Miles and I were never friends; he is simply friends with your brother, which meant he was always just around when we all hung out. He couldn’t stand me even then, which is why I’d flirt with him in the first place. It’s as easy as that.”
* * *
“It’s a terrible plan, and not just because she’s my brother’s ex. Not just because when they were dating, I was never able to look at them together and not feel a soul-crushing level of jealousy. It’s why any time she was in Seaside Point last summer, I worked overtime, avoiding going anywhere but work and home.
The first summer they were together was torture enough. I couldn’t put myself through it a second time.”

“I confided in him when I was drunk three years ago that I thought his sister’s best friend from out of town was hot, even if she was way too young for me.”
