A Traitor at Poppyridge Cove: Seaside Inn Mystery

Rate this book
After two bad dates, can Emily overlook the flaws and ask Ryan for help?

Abby and Chase leave for a sudden getaway, putting Emily in charge of the seaside Inn. Always ready for a challenge, Emily dives in. But after a power outage and guest complaints, she wonders if she should call someone for help. Ryan's number is an emergency contact, but she's determined not to call him. She's seen how self absorbed he can be.

After a phone call from the beautiful Emily, Ryan's hoping to get through the repairs as quickly as possible. It's clear she's labeled him as the spoiled, rich-boy type. But as they spend more time together, he's curious what else might be going on. Something painful is hiding behind her wide eyes, and he finds himself anxious to help.

By the time Emily realizes she's completely misjudged Ryan, it may be too late. Someone is sabbotaging the Inn, and their intentions run deeper than she could have imagined.

Abby and Chase are leaving town and leave their friend, Emily, in charge of the inn for a few days. So while the last book was focused on Abby and Chase, they are barely in this book. It was definitely interesting to see a new main character in this series. I'm not sure if I like it or not, to be honest. On one hand, I like new characters. However, I love getting attached to characters in a series.

Calling this book a mystery book is a bit generous. There was so little in this book about the mystery, which was a very mild mystery. This book was mostly a romance novel. Nothing wrong with a romance novel, if that's what you're looking for, but if you want a mystery, this really isn't it. No clues, no real investigating, you just find out the culprit at the end.

I love the premise of the book. The inn sounds lovely and would be the perfect setting for some spooky mysteries. The book wasn't terrible, it just wasn't really a mystery. For me, the romance aspect was far too quick. So much push and pull, and then full on love...in like two days. I know some people enjoy that, but it's just not for me. I think the book would do better as a romance novel.
