This book does a solid job outlining the common pitfalls of Agile—scope creep, burnout, documentation gaps, and cultural resistance. The structure is clear, and it provides a good entry point for readers who are newer to Agile or who want to better understand its limitations.

However, the execution doesn’t fully live up to the description. While it promises real-world examples and actionable strategies, most of the “case studies” feel generic and high-level (e.g., “Company X” and “Team Y”) rather than detailed stories you can learn from. The strategies are often more reminders of Agile best practices than fresh insights.

If you’re looking for a straightforward overview of Agile’s drawbacks, this will give you that. But if you’re expecting deep, practical guidance with robust case studies, you may walk away wanting more.

I like how this book talks about Agile without the usual hype. It’s refreshing to read something that admits Agile has flaws and explains them in plain language. I’ve studied Agile foryears and always heard how amazing it was, but when I started applying it, I also ran into problems—and this book really helps me see how to handle them.
One of the chapters I liked most was “Risk of Overlooking Documentation” because I often deal with so many files that it’s hard to take clear action. Definitely worth reading if you want to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of Agile. I’m planning toput some of these ideas into practice and update my review later on.

This book is refreshing because it doesn’t just celebrate Agile, it acknowledges the real struggles teams face when trying to make things work. From scope creep and missed timelines to burnout and poor documentation, the author lays out the pitfalls clearly and offers strategies to overcome them.

The examples feel grounded in real-world practice, making the advice easy to apply whether you’re a project manager, Scrum Master, or part of a team in transition.

What stands out is the balance between critique and solutions. It is honest about the messiness, but also empowering in showing how to lead with clarity. A valuable guide for anyone navigating Agile beyond the success stories.

Someone suggested I give this a try since I work with Agile teams, and I did find a few useful tips—especially the sections about avoiding scope creep and managing burnout. That said, it didn’t quite grab me the way I hoped. Some points felt a bit repetitive, and I wish there had been more fresh, in-depth solutions instead of sticking to fairly common advice. Still, it’s a decent refresher if you want a reminder of the pitfalls to watch for when working in Agile.

You will find this book useful if you would like to learn how to prioritize how to emphasize customer collaboration over contract negotiation, working software over comprehensive documentation or even individuals and interactions over processes and tools. I really enjoyed learning more about agile project management with this book since the information is to the point (no fluff), the content is well-structured and the author has made sure to make that the design is appealing.
