Nathaniel picked his pocket, stole his watch, put him in his own handcuffs... and that was just the foreplay.
Nathaniel Weatherby works as a cruise ship magician and comedian. He's also a thief, or at least he was. He left his family and their family business behind some years ago and uses his skills to entertain rather than cheat and steal. But when jewelry goes missing on board, his past comes back to haunt him.
Maryland police officer Randy Messier is on the cruise ship hoping for a little vacation, but also to keep his eyes open. There have been rumors, and the cruise line is determined to keep its passengers safe. Randy isn't sure what to do when he gets pulled on stage, but he doesn't expect Nathaniel to comically rob him blind and leave him in his own handcuffs.
After getting Randy's attention on stage, the two men circle each like moths to each other's flame, drawing them ever closer. But when jewelry is stolen, Randy's first suspicion falls on Nathaniel. Even when Nathaniel has an alibi, Randy still isn’t convinced. It becomes clear that the only way for them to possibly move forward is to catch the real thief. Even then, their growing attraction might not be enough.
On the Cruise Ship, Magician, Nathanial, and Policeman, Randy, have fun during his magic show. When there is a real jewel robbery, things get dicey for Nathanial. He helps by solving it, and now he and Randy are getting closer, with some romantic and hot sexiness. Another incident calls for a set up, and we see the characters working together to set the trap. Great fun ! ENJOY !
THOUGHTS: This isn’t the “Love Boat” but there is definitely romance on the high seas as Nathaniel meets Randy while both are working on a high-end cruise ship. Nathaniel is a professional magician working as entertainment for the cruise while Randy is a Baltimore detective working undercover with security to find a thief. When jewels go missing, Randy’s first thought is Nathaniel, but cameras prove it wasn’t him. Unfortunately, Nathaniel knows who the thief is and goes about trying to help Randy catch them. Meanwhile, romance blossoms for both men and they have to figure out a way to make things work.
The characters are realistic and I loved the interaction between Randy and Nathaniel when the magician pulls him up on stage and uses him as a patsy, lifting his wallet, ID, and even his handcuffs – which Nathaniel easily gets out of and clicks on Randy while they’re dancing in front of the audience. Best scene of the book for me. And the ending was perfect. Nicely done.
This was a fun and entertaining quick read, one that definitely made me smile and swoon. I love the cruise ship setting and pairing a magician with a questionable thief-connected past and a cop is just fantastic. I really loved Randy and Nathaniel, they are a great match right from the start and only got better as their story went on.
It’s a great mix of humor, romance and of course a little mystery. It a quick read so nothing is drawn out and overly dramatic but it’s fun and entertaining and kept me reading. I thought Nathaniel and Randy had a great connection and I liked that despite everything going on, both pretty much working that they got to have great moments together. I also enjoyed how it all came together for these two, felt like the perfect happiness they both deserved! Definitely a read I would recommend!
You're getting Baroque, Andrew. For a romance between a shipboard entertainer and a cop on a vacation, you introduce his sister, a thief, and his father, a bigger thief. Nathaniel, the entertainer, Randy, the cop, on board, and the sparks fly. Randy becomes his patsy, if you will, and when stuff turns out to have been stolen, Nathaniel recognizes his sister's work. The affair continues, and when Nathaniel's father shows up, a conversation between Nathaniel, Randy, and the ship's captain Lars has the boat drop his father off at San Juan where the FBI is waiting. Nathaniel leaves the ship with Randy and they settle down at Randy's house outside Baltimore. Excellent book
I must have been reading a different book from so many other readers, but this did absolutely nothing for me. To make it short ...
No chemistry between Randy (eye roll for the name alone) and Nathaniel. No relationship development to speak of. Clumsy jokes/banter. No romantic tension. Somewhat mechanical sex scenes with no sizzle or steam. A plot that’s highly underdeveloped and widely underwhelming. Writing that’s a bit naïve and badly edited. Conversations that feel stilted and awkward. Lukewarm all the way.
I absolutely loved this book! Andrew Grey is an amazing story teller. Even in a shorter novel like this one, the characters are well developed. They interact naturally with one another. Nathaniel and Randy meet on a cruise ship. Nathaniel is an entertainer. Randy has been hired as a special security agent posing as a guest. Discover the magic that is waiting for you in this great new novel. You will be glad you did.
I loved this so much. Nathaniel is a magician with a secret. Randy is a smalltowncop hired to do extra security on a cruise ship. Free vacation so why not. Then the sexy magician pulls him on stage, robs him blind and then puts his own handcuffs on him. Andvthe audience loves it. But this puts Nathaniel as suspect. Then there are a few really big twists. As usual we get a fun read, all the feels, a fun setting, hot characters , hot romance, some mystery, twists and a happy ever after.
Hijinks on the high seas! This delightful tale took us on a cruise and tossed in some magical entertainment, some excitement, a little romance, a little danger, and, unfortunately, some theft. What more could you ask for, all wrapped up into a sweet and very enjoyable read. I think we got our monies worth.
This was an enjoyable story, with some very believable characters and enough laughter and drama to keep my attention. Good character development, and a well played relationship for Nathaniel and Randy. Good positive ending.
