Alpha Male

Rate this book
Since defeating the evil Global Alpha saving mankind from annihilation, Caleb and Marla have gone back to their quiet lives.

Sadly, "quiet" never lasts.

A werewolf delegation explains to Caleb that by killing the last Alpha and then not assuming the position himself, the werewolf world has fallen into chaos, fractured packs, and bitter infighting. Born followers, the werewolves NEED a strong leader to restore balance and order.

Realizing his responsibility for this situation, Caleb must step up and be the leader they need, even though it is the last thing he wants to do.

But there are those who do not recognize him as the legitimate leader. Rejecting his policy of détente with humankind, they still want a Werewolf Apocalypse and a Human Holocaust. And they are willing to kill anyone who disagrees or gets in their way.

War is brewing, and no one can remain neutral. Everyone must choose a side. It all comes down to one cataclysmic, blood-soaked battle to the death between Caleb and the rebel leader, Logan Olivier. Whoever survives will guide the combined destinies of both werewolves and humans for the next thousand years.

There can be only one ALPHA MALE.

Allen’s latest is a ferocious, fast-paced, and harrowing second act in the Caleb Jacobsen Saga. After saving humanity from the Global Alpha's wrath, Caleb and Marla hoped for peace. But peace was never built to last. When a werewolf delegation arrives, Caleb learns that by refusing the Alpha title after his victory, he’s left the werewolf world leaderless. Reluctantly, Caleb must accept the role he never wanted. But not all werewolves accept his authority. As war ignites, sides must be chosen. In the final, brutal clash between Caleb and Logan, the fate of both species hangs in the balance.

Caleb remains at the heart of the story. His journey from lone wolf to Global Alpha is less about a man rising to power and more about a man reckoning with unintended consequences. By killing the previous Alpha, Hans, he set into motion a collapse of centralized leadership in the werewolf world. This tension is reflected in his relationship with Marla, a human who knows the worst of Caleb’s world and loves him anyway. Their relationship is the emotional anchor of the novel. Marla wants to be part of his life in full. Caleb resists. Not because of machismo or mistrust, but because he knows the horror she’d be choosing.

Each new character introduced; Amari, Mehmet, LeBlanc, Crawford, serves as both mirror and contrast to Caleb. Crawford, in particular, stands out. He’s brash, honest, and doesn’t pander to Caleb’s internal conflict. The werewolf lore in the book is vivid and refreshingly brutal. Allen's werewolves can change at will, they live with long memory, and they are bound not just by violence but by an ancient order in disarray. The political and territorial struggles mirror real-world power vacuums: when a tyrant falls and no clear successor rises, factions battle for scraps, and innocents suffer.
Allen’s prose is taut and cinematic, particularly during action scenes and horror sequences. He writes like someone who has lived with these characters for years. And perhaps he has. His background in screenwriting is evident in the pacing and structure, but unlike many cinematic thrillers, the narrative balances character introspection with plot momentum, allowing philosophical questions to rise without derailing the story.

Readers looking for gore and action will be well satisfied, but those who stay for the story’s emotional depth and moral complexity will be rewarded most. A must-read for fans of character-driven supernatural thrillers.

Alpha Male opens with an immediate sense of unease, pulling readers straight into a world where peace is fragile and danger is never far away. Caleb and Marla’s attempt at a quiet life is disrupted the moment a werewolf delegation arrives with troubling news: without a strong Alpha to unite them, packs are splintering, chaos is spreading, and violence is inevitable. The story quickly transforms into a powerful exploration of responsibility, leadership, and the heavy price of power.

Caleb’s inner conflict forms the emotional core of the book. He never wanted authority, yet circumstances force him into a role that carries immense weight. The author handles this reluctant rise with nuance, capturing the tension between personal desires and an unavoidable duty. Marla adds depth to the narrative, grounding Caleb emotionally while underscoring what is at stake if he fails.

The opposing force—Logan Olivier and his radical faction—brings a sharp edge to the plot. Their insistence on a war against humanity and their rejection of coexistence raise the stakes drastically. The ideological clash between peace and destruction is crafted with intensity, making every encounter feel heavy with consequence. As alliances shift and hostilities build, the sense of an impending, unavoidable war grows with every chapter.

By the time the story reaches its climactic confrontation between Caleb and Logan, the narrative has built a powerful momentum. The final battle is brutal, symbolic, and gripping, carrying the full weight of a world on the brink. It’s a clash not just of strength, but of vision—one that will determine the fate of both werewolves and humans for centuries to come.

Overall, “Alpha Male” is a tense, vivid, and emotionally charged supernatural thriller. With strong character arcs, moral complexity, and high-stakes conflict, it delivers a story that is both epic and deeply personal. It keeps you invested from the first page to the last, making it a standout addition to the series.

Alpha Male continues the story of Caleb and Marla after they defeat the Global Alpha. They hope for a quiet life, but that peace does not last long. A werewolf group comes to Caleb with a hard truth: by killing the last Alpha and refusing the role himself, he has left their world without a leader. Packs are breaking apart, violence is spreading, and order is gone. The story moves fast and clearly shows how one decision can affect many lives. The plot stays focused and never feels confusing.

Caleb is the strongest part of the book. He does not want power, and that makes his struggle feel real. He knows the chaos is partly his fault, and that guilt pushes him to act. His journey is not about wanting control but about accepting responsibility. Marla adds balance to the story. She understands the danger of Caleb’s world but still chooses to stand by him. Their relationship gives the book emotional depth and keeps the story grounded.

The conflict grows when Logan Olivier and his followers reject peace with humans. They believe in violence and are willing to kill anyone who stands in their way. This creates a clear line between those who want balance and those who want destruction. The werewolf world is shown as harsh and dangerous, with strong rules and old grudges. The hunting scenes and fights are intense and keep the tension high without feeling forced.

I recommend Alpha Male to readers who enjoy dark supernatural stories with strong characters and clear themes. This book is about leadership, choice, and the cost of walking away from duty. On a personal level, it made me think about how avoiding responsibility can cause more harm than facing it. If you like fast-paced stories with emotional weight and meaningful conflict, this book is a good choice and a strong second part of the series.

Ok, when is Book 3 going to be released?

A fun, brutal, violent book. But hey, it's about Werewolves, and these ain't no Hallmark
Moment beasts. It's obvious the author loves Werewolves, and he pens what is arguably
THE definitive book on modern lycanthrops, the how, what, when, where of the Werewolves. So much makes so much sense and is so believable that this series could be considered part and parcel of the Canon of these terrifying immortal monsters. The story is excellent, the action non stop, and yes it's gory. People get killed and eaten but it's not gratuitous violence. Of course there is plenty of PG sex, but everything else is a hard R. The writing is excellent and the characters are alive on the page. Read this book if you're a Werewolf fan. You won't be disappointed.

The cover hooks you before you open the pages, and once you do, author Mark Allen doesn’t disappoint. Alpha Male is the second book in Allen’s Caleb Jacobsen werewolf series, with Blood Moon being the lead in. Even though I didn’t read the first book, Allen welcomes you. I was not lost one bit, and I instantly felt invested in these characters.

I truly enjoyed Alpha Male so much. Allen is also a screenwriter, and if you are familiar with screenwriting, you can tell. Allen’s visceral description and detail are superb. I love it when a book plays like a film in your head, and Alpha Male does that. Allen’s writing is gifted in this genre. I am excited to see where Caleb and Marla go next.

This book is hard to put down.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and well thought out follow up on the first book. This book has a number of new characters with interesting pasts, as well as present lives. There is a lot of action and attention to detail. I really hope that there will be more books in this series to continue the exploits of these characters. I really did not want to put this book down.

I really enjoyed this book although a bit repetitive and a bit to much detail with street and city details. And what was the point of bringing Eddie into the story? Unless he is going to have a more significant role in the next book?

One of the best werewolf series I've read!

Don't be mislead by the cover photo, this is so much more than a horror story. Such detail on the transformation process and the dynamics within a pack. Loved every minute of it.

Another action packed werewolf adventure filled with characters you really root and care for, and others you loathe. The main character, Caleb, faces new challenges as he steps up to lead the global werewolf packs. Love the lore behind the werewolf world. Can't wait to read more.

A really good follow up to Blood Red Moon. I enjoyed this just as much as the first.
And I’m secretly hoping for a fourth!
