A mix of a cleaning advice for people who have never before entered a home (do the dishes) but then a level of clean freak extremism that made me think if I actually thought I’d have to clean to this level, I would just be a ball of tears and give up. It’s quite possibly the least useful book unless you’d like to cultivate a cleaning obsession, in which case, clean away.
Ok so it’s called five minute clean routine which makes me think it will be a stress free book to help? Nope.
The first hour or so bombards you with information on what to buy and cleaning solutions and lots of unnecessary info. I get that some people may need help with what cleaning solutions to use but surely this could be a little “cleaning dictionary” or something at the back of the book?
Then when we get to the actual cleaning routine it’s stuff that just isn’t helpful “pick up things when you leave a room” “pick up stuff you drop” “wash dishes after dinner”. These are basic things.
Too much focus on eco friendly and homemade cleaning products etc when people who benefit from books like this need help quickly not something that makes it harder.
Finally, the safety tips are great however, stating that essential oils need to be mixed with liquid isn’t enough. Mixing essential oils with liquid does not dilute it you need to use a carrier. It can cause damage to human skin and could injure animals.
ANYWAYYYYY. It didn’t tell me anything I don’t already know. I just wanted help motivating me to clean and quick hacks not an info dump on all things cleaning. Now I’m stressed and my house is still dirty.
This book is yet to be published, but after listening to it on Libby, I preordered the hard copy. We consider ourselves semi-professional cleaners since opening our Air B&B (all 5 star reviews!), but this book had some interesting tips — and I learned that sheet detanglers exist for the dryer — what?!? This is going to be a game changer. One of my biggest pet peeves is twisted up bed sheets in the dryer!
I hate housework but this book was an inspiration, and I’ve learnt how to rescue burnt pans! I’ll never love housework but now it’s not the chore it was. Thank you.
