She finds herself falling short in every way—including fitting in with the locals, particularly with her neighbor on the adjoining sheep the surly, impatient, and insanely attractive Cedric Davies. Apparently, the guy used to be some famous soccer—oh, sorry, football—player for England, but after an injury, he chose live out the remainder of his days on this rainy, windy land like some crazy recluse. A recluse who isn’t afraid to express his disapproval with her filming her life from sun-up to sun-down.

Robyn can handle anything life throws at her—even this frigid sheep farm. And yet, when Cedric’s wind-tossed hair and scruff-covered jawline become more appealing than anything else, including her job…she isn’t sure what she can handle anymore.

This is the third book in the clean and sweet romcom Men of the Isles series by Deborah M. Hathaway. Although this dual POV, grumpy/sunshine, sports, and celebrity romance is a stand-alone novel, the books are best enjoyed when read in order as minor spoilers are given about previous characters.

About the author

Deborah M. Hathaway graduated from Utah State University with a degree in English and Creative Writing. As a young girl, she devoured Jane Austen's novels while watching and re-watching every adaptation of Pride & Prejudice she could, entirely captured by all things Regency and romance.

Throughout her life, she wrote many short stories, poems, and essays, but it was not until after her marriage that she was finally able to complete her first romance novel, attributing the completion to her courtship with, and love of, her charming, English husband.

Deborah finds her inspiration for her novels in her everyday experiences with her husband and children and during her travels to the United Kingdom, where she draws on the beauty of the country in such places as Ireland, Yorkshire, and her beloved Cornwall.

I have absolutely fallen in love with Ruling Out Robyn💛🐑🥹

This story follows Robyn, a sunshine-filled content creator who takes on a year-long challenge living on a sheep farm in Wales…despite knowing absolutely nothing about farming. Enter Cedric—her grumpy, reclusive neighbor (and former football star) who would very much prefer she—and her camera—did not exist.

And let me just say…these two?

MAGIC.

These characters will burrow straight into your heart, and I truly think your life will be better for having read their story. There is so much fun woven into this book, but it also doesn’t shy away from real-life struggles and the growth it takes to work through them.

Both Robyn and Cedric are fighting their own battles, and watching their journeys slowly intertwine was something really special. There was a moment where I was literally tearing up because of how beautifully it all came together.

Deborah does such an incredible job with banter, lovable (and very real) characters, and a writing style that just flows. This is one of those books that feels effortless to read—you sit down, and suddenly you’re chapters in without even realizing it.

This book was pure JOY. And honestly…we could all use more of that.

I loved this story!!! This is the third book in the series but it works as a standalone. There are characters from previous books that show up in this one though. Cedric and Robyn are such great characters! Cedric is a sheep farmer, and famous athlete but is trying to keep hidden from the public. Robyn is a YouTuber and is documenting her newest adventure becoming a sheep farmer for a year. She moves in right next door to Cedric. I thought it fun that he didn’t want to be on camera and she is all about being on camera. Cedric and Robyn start off on the wrong foot. Robyn needs help from time to time with things, at first Cedric is annoyed but that quickly changes as they become friends. I loved watching their relationship develop. They are just the cutest. I really loved how they helped each other and had those tough talks. One of my favorite parts was when Robyn got her sheep and the scene that follows after. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I recommend!

This book was everything I hoped! 😭😍

I don’t know what magic Deborah’s putting in here, but I AM OBSESSED! 🤭

I mean, Wales, sheep farms, a retired reclusive pro athlete x content creator, grumpy x sunshine, found family, hilarious group chats, and healing moments… it was a delight from start to finish. And I totally cried over the ending—it was just that sweet, okay? And the one-sided conversations Cedric has with his sheepdog Efa had me ROLLING. We love a sassy canine sidekick!

While I wait for Graham’s story, I’ll definitely be rereading because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these chaps and their American girls yet. 🤭

I love this book. It is so beautifully written, it pulled me in, and I felt like I was there in the Welsh countryside with these characters that have a piece of my heart. What a wonderful, emotional, and healing journey!

The grumpy sunshine dynamic between Cedric and Robyn was my favorite! Getting to know them better as they get to know each other was everything!!! I loved watching Robyn slowly melt his guarded heart and boy is he swoony! I love how these two help each other in all the ways! Their sweet story really warmed my heart.

I absolutely loved visiting Wales through this book! I could feel the setting. It was so immersive, atmospheric and beautiful. I loved getting a taste of the culture, the language, the dramatic scenery, and it was also so interesting learning about sheep farming there!

I love this group of friends. It was such a joy having them all back together again! Each of their stories have stolen my heart and I love this series!

Towards the end, there were moments that gave me tears in my eyes. Cedric and Robyn’s story really touched my heart, moved me, and inspired me! What a beautiful love story that is thoughtfully written with amazing characters, heart healing moments, swoony moments and a stunning setting that you won’t be able to resist!

You know what I always absolutely love about Deborah’s books? The vivid imagery and how I FEEL like I am there with the wind in my face on this Welsh mountain. This series is so good and this one may be my favorite! (Shhhh don’t tell the others.)

Robyn and Cedric are magical together. I love their banter and how Robyn is calm even when Cedric is annoyed. I loved the sheep farmer aspect of the book….I mean, how cool is that?!? One of the best parts is the text thread amongst all the men. It is always so funny.

This is one of those books where I don’t consider them enemies to start with (although Cedric may argue this point.) But the way he is so opposed to her being there and the humbleness she has about it was just so good!

I’m not doing the description justice. Just know there are Welsh mountains. A sheep farmer who is a former professional footballer (with all the swooniness.) And a social content creator just wanting to find her place. And it all combines into this beautiful story.

Oh for cuteness! I looooove me a grumpy/sunshine trope any day of the week. Hands down a favorite. And Deborah DE.....LIVERED!!!!

Cedric was all the things! Grumpy, irritable, intense, secretly longing to a certain sunshiney neighbor. He gave us his soccer career after an injury and some negative attention and became a sheep farmer. And after reading this book I want to run to Wales and become one myself. I loved seeing his journey through the book and how Robyn really brought him out of his shell.

Speaking of Robyn, she is literally the sweetest, who's literally on a journey to find where she belongs, she just doesnt know it yet. As a content creator who let's her followers lead her life, they led her to a sheep farm in Wales with a Grumpy handsome neighbor. I love seeing her work through her own trauma and hard upbringing and not allowing that to control her.

Robyn and Cedric were so fun to read. This was the fourth book in a series but it was the first one that I read. And I didn't feel like i missed anything. So can be totally read on its own!

This third installment in the Men of the Isles series gives us Cedric’s story and it doesn’t not disappoint! It has all of the feels, a stellar storyline, and so many awesome moments! This romcom made me smile and cheer every step of the journey. I loved the grump sunshine mix! I was all in watching Cedric come out of his shell with the help of Robyn! To see someone so determined to stay out of the spotlight and then have a neighbor whose entire career was being in the spotlight was an interesting combination! Honestly this story just makes me smile! And it will make you smile too! Run and get yourself a copy of Ruling out Robyn! Now for book four, I need Graham’s story! I received a complimentary copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ruling Out Robyn

My thoughts: Oh, this book! It includes so much amazingness such as Wales, sheep farming (baby sheep!), handiwork, and football. The characters were so likable and real from their first interaction to the epilogue. Other things I loved were the sheep, the stone wall, warming fires, livestock bidding, shower mishaps, and a homemade meal.

“So that’s what he looked like underneath all those winter layers. Not bad, Shepherd. Not bad at all.”

“Show her that a life with you is better than a life without.”

I really really enjoyed this book. I can’t stop thinking about it. Rom coms are getting too ridiculous and over the top in their humor these days. I loved the chill vibe of this one. It was so unique in its setting too. I was completely immersed in the mountainous terrain of Wales. The weather is harsh and the landscape rugged, but they live in cozy cottages. It made me think of Lord of the Rings. I loved the Welsh language, welsh culture, and learning to be a sheep farmer. The football content was fun too. I loved both main characters’ personalities and felt they were genuine instead of a charactature full of tropes. Their inner thoughts weren’t annoying either. The growth of the characters as well as the slow build of the relationship was perfect. I teared up a few places at the end. I love Cedric’s friend group and I haven’t even read the previous two books in the series. The conflicts were so well written and handled. I love the authors writing. This is my first contemporary from this author and I’m excited to try more.

Spoilers and book notes:
Efa is a perfect name for a Welsh sheepdog. And I love his name is Cedric. He is 31 like me. I think it’s funny he mumbles. Apparently there is a difference between content creators and influencers and she is the first. I definitely YouTubed someone speaking in a welsh accent. I LOVE this description of her: “Dimples at the edges of her smile, dark brows that accentuated her smooth skin, and a nose as charming as any fairy’s. But she was clearly daft. Anyone who thought themselves capable of leading this life without previous experience, then willingly agreeing to filming their own failures had to be mad.” Fun and bored are two words that don’t exist in a shepherd vocab. I love that Cedric talks to his dog Efa and that Efa gives him judgemental states until he helps Robyn! I love his three mates that he texts. From football star to shepherd. “just as he knew they’d pity him and his change of pace. Instead of cheering on the pitch, he was greeted with sheep bleating across a muddy field. Instead of girls on each arm, he had a crook and a dog.” His three guy friends were there before his football fame: ““And listen. Don’t forget, there have been a lot of us who have been around since the start and who will be until the end. We don’t care where you’ve been or where you are now. It’s you we care about.” Cedric and his mates are doing a fell run. But since he is recovering from injury he needs to train. “Fell running is a traditional, often off-trail, sport of running and racing over steep upland country-"fells" - primarily in Northern Britain. It involves navigating between checkpoints, often
involving significant, sharp ascents and rapid, technical descents over rough terrain. It requires strength, map navigation skills, and independence, distinct from trail running's marked paths.” Robyn is a runner too!! She completed an Ironman!! She is 5’ 10”!! They are both doing the same fell run! I love this description: “Once more, the twinkle in his eye shone like city lights against a black sky. Or rather, like the stars on a clear night above the Ogwen Valley.” He teaches her how to light a fire in her chimney. It’s actually a ton of work and will d different things depending on the weather outside. It’s SO cold there in Snowdonia. (Mountain range in wales) “The Snowdonia Mountains and Coast region truly is the heartland of the Welsh language. Here Welsh is the day to day language and is spoken and understood by the majority of the population. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe and belongs to the Indo European family of languages.” Sheep farming: ““Lucky enough, I found reason again, quit my career, and remembered that sheep farmin’ isn’t about a wage. It’s a way of life that delivers purpose, a slower pace, responsibility without the pressure to perform. Sheep don’t judge you or praise you. They just live their life with you in it. And that leads to a sort of freedom and lasting peace of its own.” Finding Peace and this next quote is a theme for the book. Something both characters are experiencing. ““Hyfryd means lovely, but Hiraeth has no direct English translation. It refers to a deep sense of homesickness—a soulful and profound yearnin’ for somethin’, whether that be one’s home, a person they once knew, or even time they experienced that’s gone by.” Oh my I love his parents they make me lol and their welsh accents. He finally had a perspective change and takes away his prejudice and sees her!! It happens at the sheep auction when she is buying a dozen non pregnant sheep. He sees she cares for them and how capable she is. Aw!! He is playing football for the first time since he got fired and injured! With these cute older boys!! Showing them what’s what with the game! “”“You’re Cedric Davies, aren’t you? He played for Habergham.” Panic smoldered in his chest. He should’ve known they’d recognize him. The Premier League was everything for anyone who knew anything about football. The fact that he’d played in the league for nine years would be well known to anyone who loved the game.” ““He was the best striker on the team by far. Best in England, I reckon,” said one of them.” He is adorable as he plays with them. I love this: ““Most sheep farmers are the salt of the earth,” Cedric said into her ear above the murmuring around them. “You just happened to move next door to the one who is more salt than earth.” And she loves salty foods more than sweet hehe he helps her! And offers to film her! So so adorable. They both got their sheep and are looking out at them on their separate lands. She forgot her camera: “Despite their physical distance from each other, Robyn felt connected to him, as if an invisible force tethered them together—a force that had been forged that morning at the mart. It was a force as tangible as it was comforting, yet she feared it was fragile, as if one move might break it and cause that loneliness she was desperate to never feel again. So she remained where she stood, as well. Filming could wait. Because right now, she wasn’t alone. Right now, she had her land, her sheep, and her friend. And right now, that was enough.” Look how beautiful!!! “She couldn’t spend forever in Cedric’s presence, trying to decide which version of the man she preferred now, Polar Plunge Cedric, Bidding Cedric, or Sheep Dog Cedric. When in reality, she was beginning to realize it wasn’t what Cedric was doing that was attractive. It was simply Cedric.” She caught on camera that while she thought they were both watching the sheep, he was really watching HER. What’s it like for Cedric speaking welsh: “The words flowed smoothly from his lips, a few of the letters lingering on his tongue while others rolled off with delicacy. It was like listening to Aragorn speak Elvish.” Robyn has NO family. So she posts online to cope with the loneliness. . It makes it feel like she has a family. ““My loneliness.” That had been the last thing he’d expected to hear from her. She was lonely? Like he was?” She is so determined and resilient!! What perspective she has! She must have Christ in her life: ““I wish things had been different for me. I’ve always wanted a home and family of my own. But I know my circumstances are better than others. And I’m really glad I was able to learn what I did because I know one day, when I do have a family of my own, my kids aren’t going to just believe they have their parents’ love—they’re going to know it.” What fantastic communication and apologies from these two. I LOVE the welsh term of endearment “love”. And how they use it! THIS IS SO ACCURATE: ““Sometimes, it can feel like the whole world is criticizing you because the most opinionated people are the loudest. Our instinct is to listen to them. But I promise, there’s a quiet majority out there who watches from the sidelines. A quiet majority who is cheering you on without ever saying a word aloud. Those are the people we should listen to.” She is telling him the welsh she is learning and she accidentally said “kiss me”!!! THE BUILD UP TO THIS KISS IS EVERYTHING I AM DYING. BUT THEN HIS FRIENDS INTERRUPT EIGHT BEFORE IT HAPPENS!!! I WILL MURDER THEM! ““Rho gusan I mi,” he continued. “Give a kiss to me.” He rested his hand gently on top of hers as his eyes took in her features. “Then there is, ‘Rho dy gusan I mi.’ Give your kiss to me.” He leaned toward her, his hand reaching up to slide along her lower jaw, his eyes focused on her lips. Her skin tingled, rushes of desire thrumming toward her heart. He moved no closer. “But my favorite is this. Dere yma. Rho dy gusan I mi. All I ddim aros yn hwy.” His thumb traced the bottom of her lip. “Come here. Give your kiss to me. I can’t wait any longer.” His eyes met hers once more, a final question in his gaze. Robyn’s head was spinning. She would give him her answer. “Cusana fi.” His lips spread in an alluring smile, and he drew closer to her. She closed her eyes, every inch of her begging to feel this shepherd’s kiss as his breath brushed over her lips first.” THEN THEY INTERRUPTED. One of his friends has Irish, then Scottish, then English accents!!! And he has welsh! Bahaha They are playing a soccer game! The three girls plus Cedric vs the three other guy mates. Since he is a pro baller. And then they ran the fell race together!!!! Aw! Love it! THEIR FIRST KISS WAS EVERYTHING I DREAMED IT WOULD BE. Then he asked her on a proper date to his fancy award ceremony. And he got the award for charity!!! And then he told her he wants her to stay or that he would go with her!!! And have someone run the farm in his absence. That’s how much he loves her. But she chooses to STAY!!! And she announces it on her channel! “And I’m at peace here in Wales. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I love Wales. I love my sheep farm. And...” She paused, her smile growing. “I love the shepherd next door.” Awww!!! “Cedric only laughed, pulling her into his arms again. “Welcome home, Robyn. Sheep farmin’ suits you.” And she believed him.” 3mo later… they have plans to combine sheep flocks and properties. Rent her house as an B&N train a dog for Robyn! He just needs to propose!! And he let her share who is on her channel! Proposal: ““Have you heard of a Welsh love spoon before?” Robyn shook her head. “Tradition says that in order for a man to show his devotion, he carves a spoon for a woman so they can use it in the house they share together. Carved into it is always something unique and special.” “”The spoon depicted a star, a dragon, and a sheep, all encircled with a large hoop. “The dragon represents Wales,” he explained. “The stars represent the states. The sheep represent both of our worlds comin’ together. And the ring around the outside...” He paused, digging into his pocket again, “represents this.” AND HE PULLS OUT AN ENGAGEMENT RING!! ““Robyn Lane,” he began, going down on one knee and holding her hand in his, “will you lay down roots with me? Will you marry me so we can live the rest of our days chasin’ sheep, rebuildin’ stone walls, and havin’ babies?””

LOVED this one from Deborah!

Favorite things:
*Welsh setting. I adored the descriptions of the countryside and villages and farms. Definitely added Wales to my bucket travel list after this!
*Cedric -- Grumpy on the outside, a cinnamon roll on the inside. Getting to know him was so fun. His depth and complexities are beautiful. I loved seeing him fall for Robyn.
*Sheep farming. I learned so much, and I was here for it! There were so many details that made this story and this career come to life --the birthing of little lambs, sheep escaping their fields, building and repairing rock walls, the auction buying sheep.
*Slow burn perfection. This love story is just so lovely. Cedric and Robyn are perfect together, full of chemistry and longing. I loved how they finally got together and how the heal each other as they love each other.
*All the friends getting together! I love this set of friends and seeing them invade Cedric's house and his life regardless of his feelings was just so fun. They always look out for each other and I loved their banter and support of Cedric.

Love this series! Can't wait for the finale!

My Thoughts
This book was such a cozy, feel-good read for me.

The romance in this story isn’t reliant on this intense tension or big dramatic moments, but that doesn't take away from it AT ALL! It’s soft, steady, and develops in a way that feels genuinely natural (kind of like the setting). It’s the kind of story that immediately hooks you, while that chemistry builds slowly until you're so nestled in you can't put it down.

Robyn is honestly adorable. She’s bright, expressive, and open in a way that makes her easy to love. But underneath all her sunshine, there’s a layer of loneliness and uncertainty that gives her character more depth (and honestly relatability) than I expected.

And Cedric… he’s the classic grumpy, jaded, slightly reclusive, emotionally guarded MMC, but done in a way that feels grounded and real. He’s not just distant for the sake of it—there’s a reason behind it, and watching him slowly soften and trust Robyn was one of my favorite parts of the story.

I absolutely LOVED how nothing from their relationship was rushed or felt forced. It really felt like how two very different neighbors could develop a beautiful bond as they live life beside each other (because NOBODY else was anywhere close).

And the little moments throughout the book completely made it:
🥰 the lambing scene
🥰 the "proper" dinner he makes for her
🥰 quiet conversations by the fire
🥰 the soccer match moment (which I loved)

Those are the kinds of scenes that build the relationship in a way that feels genuine and earned.

What surprised me
I didn’t expect to connect so much with Robyn’s internal struggle.
Her thoughts about her life, her career, and everything she’s built felt incredibly real. It didn’t feel overly dramatic, like some internal struggles within book characters can. It felt like the kind of decision that would actually be difficult to navigate, and that added a layer of depth that balanced out the cozy, light tone of the romance really well.

Let’s talk about that kiss
That. first. kiss.
Was EVERYTHING.
For a sweet/closed-door romance, it was sooooo well done! I literally read it 3x cause I couldn't get over it! It was smooth, emotional, intense, soooo satisfying, and absolutely worth the slow build.

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a romance that is:
✅ cozy and feel-good
✅ character-driven
✅ naturally developed
✅ and still genuinely satisfying without any spice

This is such a good one to pick up.
It’s the kind of story that doesn’t rely on big, dramatic moments, but instead builds something quiet, warm, and meaningful over time.

All the love for Ruling Out Robyn! This third book in the Men of the Isles series completely drew me in with its grumpy vs. sunshine romance & gorgeous Wales setting. Deborah M. Hathaway brings all the charm, wit, longing, & sweet romance in this delightful story.

Robyn Lane is definitely a character I could get behind. She’s smart, funny, determined, positive, & resilient. Her troubled past has made her a bit of a nomad, & she relishes never staying in one place too long while sharing her adventures with her substantial social media following. Her latest undertaking is remodeling a dilapidated farmhouse in Wales while acquiring & tending a flock of sheep. First, though, she has to contend with her surly neighbor, who resents both her presence & her purchase of the land he’d hoped to buy. Robyn & Cedric completely captured my heart. I loved learning Welsh words, & Robyn’s attempts at speaking the language were pure fun, especially when she mistakenly begs for a kiss. I also loved learning about sheep farming & the lovely descriptions of Wales that really brought the country to life. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic was so good! I enjoyed watching Cedric fall fast & hard. Both he & Robyn have fears to overcome, & I loved the way they supported & encouraged each other.

Highly recommend to sweet romance fans! Though it can be read as a standalone, it’s even better if you’ve read the previous books. I received an advanced copy from the author but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

Ruling Out Robyn, is the dear third book in the clean and sweet romcom Men of the Isles series. While this dual POV, grumpy/sunshine, sports, and celebrity romance is a stand-alone novel, I am here to say that, the books are best enjoyed when read in order as minor spoilers are given about previous characters. Please don’t miss the other novels in this series! They are so good! There’s just so much goodness packed into each story. Ruling Out Robyn is something dear to the heart, and for a few different reasons, I found the dear main characters to be so relatable and endearing. I gravitated towards their each individual struggles and the yearning of their hearts, and in wanting to find their place of belonging, being seen, and peace from inner struggles! I couldn’t help but cheer for each of them individually but, also in watching them be something more, united, and knowing the difference love makes in their lives. I loved the witty banter and humor, sparks of tension and chemistry, and watching characters overcome and grow along the way. I adored seeing the good each is able to bring out in one another and the value of dear ‘mates,’ who truly want to support and continue to support, really, and cheer on their tribe with fierce devotion and love! I love how the writing was written with such love, and precision to detail! The imagery is so fresh and real with its ability to transport myself to Wales, and with a taste of sheep herding and speaking welsh. It was so immersive and beautiful. This story captivated me right from the start and held me delightfully along each page of its tale, for such a wonderful reading adventure of the heart! It is absolutely worth the dear read!

I loved the first two books in Deborah M. Hathaway’s Men of the Isles series, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Ruling Out Robyn. I would say that I waited patiently for it to come out, but I don’t think I am ever really patient when it comes to anticipating new releases. Well, all my “patience” paid off, when I loved every minute of reading this book.

The story focused on Cedric as he builds a new life, away from football, on his sheep farm in Wales. When Robyn, a content creator, moves into the cottage next door, Cedric’s carefully crafted world of solitude and peace quickly disappeared. As Robyn and Cedric slowly learn to be neighbors, he starts to question what he really wants in his life and who. The story is full of banter, heartfelt conversations, character growth, and lots of swoony moments.

Hathaway’s writing was so immersive and really brought the Welsh countryside to life. I could not get enough of the rugged countryside, the fluffy sheep, constant rain, and centuries old stone cottages. It was glorious.

Like Robyn, I would love to take over Cedric’s cottage. I mean it sounds like the perfect place to curl up with a good book in front of a roaring fire on a rainy day. IYKYK

I need to plan a trip to Wales. ASAP

I was already a fan of Cedric from the earlier books in the series, so I was fully prepared to enjoy his story. Well, he turned out to be even better than I anticipated. I loved how Cedric was so humble and willing to admit when he made mistakes. He was such a good and kind man. I loved watching him fall and come to terms with his feelings and his new life. It was so fun.

I adored Robyn. She was so bright and happy. I loved how she approached every situation in her life and how she believed in herself and in her own abilities. She was really the perfect match for Cedric.

I could go on and on about all the things I loved about this book, but I really just think everyone needs to read it for themselves. From the side characters to the sheep to the Welsh language to slow burn romance, this book was a joyful read that kept a smile on my face throughout.

This book has one of my favorite tropes Grumpy vs Sunshine! There are plenty of laugh’s, hilarious chaos when mates come to call, a swoony kiss (it took a long time but was worth it) and tender moments that had me cheering Cedric and Robyn.
Cedric is healing and hiding, to avoid attention from media, his football mates and even his parents. After being a Football star in the UK for nine years, his manager lets him go after being injured again in a game. He decides to buy a sheep farm and hide from society for a while. He likes quiet and peace. He plans to buy the neighboring farm to increase the farm, but they do not want to sale.
Robyn is a media content creator and has travelled a lot in the last ten years. With her media following providing funds through Kickstarter. Her next big adventure is to video being a sheep farmer for a year in Wales. When she arrives, she finds the house not ready to live in, spotty internet reception and a neighbor who is grumpy. That does not stop her, in fact she is a ray of sunshine even when it is raining!
Cedric and Robyn often find themselves at odds with each other, but they can depend on each other when they need help. There are many funny situations that have me laughing and crying as well. Here are a few that I loved: when Cedric’s parents make a drop in visit, Robyn learning how to rebuild the rock wall, the sheep auction, college mates come for the big yearly run they do together along with a football game with their girlfriends and of course sweet lambs being born. Another part of the series is being able to check in with the characters from previous books. Men from the Isles have a unique interaction with each other that show support when needed along with good clean fun. There are so many good laughs! A solid five stars! Can’t wait until Graham and Piper’s story!

These Men of the Isles are something fairly special aren’t they?

In this 3rd book by Deborah M. Hathaway, we meet grumpy, reclusive Welsh sheep farmer Cedric. Formerly a star footballer, life has come crashing down and he has retreated back to his Welsh farming roots in rural North Wales. Then along comes sunny, vibrant American content creator Robyn, who has purchased the farm next door and wants to learn how to be a sheep farmer for her social media channel to disturb his peace. In a classic enemies to lovers story, they initially clash and Cedric wants nothing more than to keep away from her and her camera. But, with each of them fighting their own internal battles, and through the magic of the Welsh countryside and the miracles of lambing, they start to really see each other and realise they may both be chasing the wrong dreams.

This is such an incredibly cozy story, which transports you to the often bleak, wet but majestic Welsh countryside where you can’t help but fall in love with the sheep, the locals and of course Cedrics ever faithful sheepdog Efa. It’s a story that really warms the heart and the banter between both Cedric and his friends (those other “men of the Isles”) and Cedric and Robyn is such a delight to read. I also just loved all the authentic Welsh touches in the place names, the words spoken, the traditions and the St Davids Day celebrations - lots of research went into making a really authentic story.

And the ending – Perfection! So beautiful and fitting to the story.

Absolute 5 star read and I am very excited to dive into Graham’s story next, the final Man of the Isles series, when it’s released. Being a Scot, I can’t wait to meet him!!

But for now - enjoy reading about Cedric and Robyn, you won’t be disappointed!!

Every book in Deborah Hathaway's Men of the Isles series has just been so good! As we're traveling across the UK with these four friends as they each find love, I love seeing where we're going next and getting to see each guy in their own home land. Each book has brought such a unique group of main characters from medieval festivals to a tour bus driver to now sheep farmers. It really had me wanting to hop on a plane and go visit Wales, even if it did sound very cold. I loved the setting and just the unique-ness of the story that helped it stand out from other romance novels. How many times do you follow sheep farmers in Wales?? Not often. I cannot encourage reading this entire series enough!

I knew I was going to enjoy this book, but I wasn't quite sure how it would hold up next to Finn's book because I just loved that one so much. But let me just say this: Ah! I loved Cedric standing his ground on letting Robyn know he wanted to make a go of a relationship with her instead of just lying so he could save face and not feel embarrassed if she didn't feel the same. I do love a good "he falls first" moment. Like he was definitely the first to admit what he wanted as Robyn's was more of the slow burn. Yes she liked him and was attracted to him, but was she ready to take the leap of staying when she had been a nomad for so long?? For this ex-footballer, the answer definitely should be a resounding yes! Also, I find all the group chats in these books highly entertaining.

Bring on Graham's story! I am excited to see the Scot admitting his feelings after it has been hinted at for awhile now!

This was proof love stories don’t always need to be some huge dramatic event with all the sparks, fireworks, high stakes and huge helpings of angst. I mean, I’ll always take those too, but this had such a calming presence about it. The words “a soothing warmth” were used frequently throughout the book, and I feel those are the perfect words to describe Cedric and Robyn’s journey to love.

The romance in this🫠 After a rocky start, they both pretty quickly had their first impressions of each other challenged. I LOVED their communication and how they both admitted and apologized accordingly when they were wrong or said something out of turn. Love to see adults acting like adults.

Theirs was a bit of a slow burn, but the pacing never dragged. They came to know one another in such a deep way and became each other’s soothing presence when the ache of loneliness hit. And the idea of a “lovely longing”? I’m sure many of us have felt the same at some point in our lives, and it was beautiful as their longings and dreams turned to reality when they were together. How he guides and supports her😭 How he becomes her home😭

Just the sweetest story filled with the best characters, vivid writing that will transport you to the rainy Welsh countryside, and the cutest love story that leaves you with a grin on your lips and a happy sigh in your heart.

I've enjoyed all of the Men of the Isles books, but Ruling Out Robyn is my favorite so far!! This grumpy/sunshine romance absolutely delivers! Robyn is pure chaos in the best way—optimistic, fearless, and completely out of her depth on a Welsh sheep farm. Watching her go from confident content creator to “what have I gotten myself into?” is hilarious and endearing.

Cedric is broody, guarded, and doesn't want his quiet life disrupted. To say he's not happy about Robyn moving into the cottage on the neighboring property he's been wanting to buy might be an understatement. Their dynamic is so fun to watch unfold, with plenty of tension, banter, and those small, quiet moments where you see Cedric start to soften.

A couple of my favorite scenes were Robyn at the sheep auction and when she helps Cedric deliver the lambs—those moments really highlight the heart of the story. I love how it showed the growing trust and connection between them. What I loved most was how the romance builds alongside their personal growth. Beneath the humor and swoony moments, she's figuring out who she is beyond the screen—and Cedric is learning to open up.

This is the third book in the Men of the Isles series, but it can be read as a standalone, although it's so fun to see characters from previous books in the story. If you love opposites-attract, small-town settings, and a grumpy hero, this one should be at the top of your TBR.

I’m loving Deborah M. Hathaway’s Men of the Isles series. And what could be more swoony than a handsome, famous football/soccer player from Wales—even if he is a bit grumpy? When Cedric Davies was injured and dropped by his team, he retreated to a sheep farm in Wales. He was definitely not excited to see a sunshiny, perky YouTube content creator buy the farm next door, especially since he’d wanted to buy that farm himself. Robyn Lane is challenged by her followers to run a sheep farm in Wales for a year. Unfortunately, the farm and house are dilapidated and run down, and Robyn knows nothing about sheep, running a farm, or fixing up old houses. When Cedric reluctantly helps her, can some of her cheerfulness rub off on him? I loved the contrast between grumpy, reclusive Cedric and optimistic, smart, and fun Robyn. Cedric’s friends were so entertaining, and their texts had me chuckling.

This was a fun, creative, and delightful tale, and I enjoyed learning more about Wales and sheep farming. The Welsh words and phrases list in the front of the book helped immensely, and I found myself checking it out frequently. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. These Men of the Isles are seriously awesome! 4.5 stars

Ruling Out Robyn was an absolutely adorable contemporary romance and everything I love about a Deborah Hathaway book. Whether it’s Regency romance or contemporary romance, if Deborah writes it, I’m reading it and this new book did not disappoint.

Where to start? First, I am super loving these “Men of the Isles” and I think each book makes me love each new hero even more. Cedric was SO good and I loved his bit of moodiness and heart of gold. His character was going through a hard time to begin with, but I love how he opened up with Robyn and that healed so many of his wounds.

Robyn was so vulnerable and authentic. I was curious going into the book how she’d be as an influencer, but Deborah made her backstory and life choices so inspiring, I couldn’t help cheer her on. I would totally be watching her channel if she was a real person.

What I loved (and things to read and be excited about) include:
*Cedric and Robyn getting off on the wrong foot
*Dual POV
*Wales—what a fabulous setting and I loved all of the Welsh aspects in this story
*Sheep farming
*The interrupted kiss

I've loved each book in the Men of the Isles series but I think this is a favorite! Each book can be read as a standalone but if they're read in sequential order, the timeline and progression of events for each character flows well. Cedric Davies is a former footballer and is living a solitary lifestyle as a shepherd in Snowdonia, Wales. Robyn Lane bought the land adjoining his as a crowdfunded content creator.

Cedric cannot understand why Robyn likes to film her life from sunup to sundown as she attempts to succeed at sheepherding herself. I appreciated how both characters were hard workers and had stubbornness and resilience in common. Robyn is patient and determined despite several difficulties. Cedric is kind and empathetic despite his initial crotchety behavior.

I do not want share spoilers but I LOVED this book! From Angharad, St. David's Day celebrations, a certain game, to the guys' AND girls' group texts, it was wonderful! Deborah does an incredible job writing and I literally felt like I was transported to the atmospheric Ogwen Valley with wind, rain, snow and sheep. I would keep a bookmark in the beginning for the glossary of Welsh words spoken. I learnt a bit of Welsh myself a few years ago and the words are so lyrical and musical!

I just adore this series. Deborah always had me adding to my travel list with her stories, and Wales has been on my list for a long time. It's a beautiful backdrop to the story, and full of history, which was clearly well-researched for this tale.

If you've read the previous books in the series, you've met Cedric before and now is his chance to shine. Well, he is the grumpy part of the dynamic duo featured here, but he does it oh so well. I mean, what would you expect from a professional sheep farmer AND a pro athlete? He had the deck stacked! But when his quiet refuge is "invaded" by a YouTuber, albeit a cute one, Cedric has done decisions to make.

I love when Robyn shows up on the scene and complicated Cedric's life from the get-go. She needs to be sharing everything and Cedric would prefer to keep everything under wraps. There is a lot of friction that turned into genuine respect and then more. The romance aspect wasn't flashy or unbelievable, but more of a soul connection that was inevitable.

The story is perfectly balanced with serious and sweet moments, and plenty of giggles to go around. I knew when this book came out that it was going to be an automatic read, and it didn't disappoint.

When Robyn Lane, a content creator moves into a dilapidated homestead in a remote part of Wales next to sheep farmer and former football player, Cedric Davies, little did either of them realize that their rocky start would turn out to be something special.

I loved this story with its rich descriptions of the Welsh countryside, customs, and language. Ms. Hathaway’s writing makes you feel like you are experiencing things along with Robyn. This is not just a clean romance, but it is much more than that as Robyn is challenged to live life and enjoy the moments she has been given. Cedric is also challenged to not let the past define him and hide from what happened to him, but let friends help and continue to help those in need instead of getting buried in things that occurred.

Looking for a cozy romance full of laugh out loud situations, tender moments, characters with the strength to overcome life’s obstacles, loyal friends that don’t give up, and a whole lot of sheep? Then Ruling out Robyn is a must read for you! Oh, and did I mention handsome men with accents?!

I adored Cedric and Robyn! Cedric was all grump but couldn’t stop himself from helping her. He had me smiling every time he did because he was so cranky about it, until he wasn’t. I loved how he was always saying things under his breath. Robyn is full of sunshine and isn’t afraid of scattering it with everyone, especially him! Her adventurous life made me want to try something new. Cedric and Robyn’s interactions were comical and heartwarming. They stole my heart.

This book is a fully immersive experience. I fell in love with Wales. I was walking the sheep fields next to the llyn (lake), watching the well-trained sheepdog round up the loose sheep, helping birth lambs, and repairing old rock walls.

Former Wales football star turned recluse sheep farmer, Cedric, has been trying to buy the farm next door, but the owner won’t sell. Then late one night he discovers he has a new neighbor—an American social media influencer who thinks she’s going to become a sheep farmer and share everything with her followers. Sure, she’s beautiful, but this is going to be a disaster. Robyn refuses to let the grumpy neighbor deter her.

I found Robyn’s tenacity, optimism, wit, and kindness inspiring. She is the calm to his storm. I loved Cedric’s one-sided conversations with his sheep dog, his muttered Gaelic exasperations, and his inability to let her suffer when he could help. His friends’ text group is pretty entertaining, too.

This is a romance full of joy, light, and hope. It’s a journey to find peace and home.

Ruling Out Robyn is the third in the Men of the Isles series. Each book’s MMC is from one of the British Isles. Each book is a lot of fun (I’ve reviewed the other two here), and they just keep getting better.

Each book in this series is an absolute winner! I have so loved reading about the different cultures in each story and learning some phrases in Irish and Welsh! As much as I loved books one and two, three might be my favorite (I’ll have to reread all to be sure)!

Cedric and Robyn’s story is such a sweet and banter-filled grumpy/sunshine love story! I loved getting to watch them get to know each other and learn that there is so much more to their new neighbor than they initially thought!

I also loved learning so much about sheep farming! It’s so nice when stories based in other countries actually teach you something new and let you experience new things through the character’s stories! It makes me want to go buy my own sheep farming up in the Welsh mountains!

Cedric and Robin’s growth and friendship was so beautiful and I loved watching them help each other blossom into who they are meant to be and help each other accept that they are deserving of happiness and home.

This is an absolute must-read, along with the rest of the series!
