The 1990s saw a new wave of creative vitality and fan interest in comics’ original superhero, with four tightly connected monthly series bringing the Man of Steel to new heights: Superman, Adventures of Superman, Action Comics, and Superman: The Man of Steel.
These four series, while continuing to retain their own distinct voices, worked closely in tandem with each other, telling a detailed larger narrative of Superman’s never-ending battle. In turn, DC added numbered triangle icons to each cover, indicating to readers exactly where in the story a given Superman issue would fall—ushering in what readers fondly remember as “the triangle era.”

Now admittedly I don’t think the whole book was 5 stars but there are issues that made this 5 stars overall. Still I love this era of Superman, I just felt the issues between the death of Superman and funeral for a friend dragged on a bit.
Panic in the sky, the Blaze/Satanus war and Funeral for a friend issues were great. But the real standout issues in this, were obviously, the death of Superman. His fight against Doomsday was epic, I love reading every issue of it. It really felt like this was Superman’s doomsday and his sacrifice for the greater good was felt in 2026 just as much as it would have done when coming out.
It was nice to see how the world came to together to honour the sacrifice that Superman made and endured. But I do feel like some of the content (“the filler”), as you could call it, didn’t really add to the story so much.
A lot of great issues, some good issues and some not so great issues but I’m still excited to get into the third book when it comes out.
