Celestial Whispers #0.5

Between Stars and Salvation

The gods are silent. The stars are merciless. Humans have killed for survival, but they’ll die for freedom.

An assassin raised in the shadows, Alessia has spent her life fighting a war she cannot win. The stars—powerful beings who fell from the heavens—have enslaved humanity for centuries, and no matter how many she and her partner Theo strike down, even more rise to take their place.

Magic is vanishing from the world. Except in Alessia, whose abilities grow stronger—and more dangerous—with every battle.

When the resistance leader’s son is taken hostage, Alessia and Theo embark on a desperate mission to rally allies and awaken the sleeping gods. But as loyalties shift, destinies beckon, and their bond grows fiercer, the cost of their magic rises.

In a clash of mortals and stars, victory will demand not only strength but blood, betrayal, and a willing sacrifice.

A rising rebellion. A fated power. A love forged in the heavens.
The stars will fall. But who will rise from the ashes?

wooow wooow wooow ..... Les and Theo .... the whole gang .... i love all the characters but watching Les and Theo's love story bloom is so amazing .. The true definition of found family .. Such an action packed romantasy that keeps you invested the whole time. Spicy scenes , battles, and sacrifice fill the pages of this epic romantasy. Thank you to Jeannin Counts for the advanced readers copy of this prequel . Check it out if you are a fan of friends to lovers and elemental magic!!

I received a copy of this book from the author and am honored to share this completely honest review!

Between Stars and Salvation (BSAS) is a prequel to The Celestial Whispers Duology, which includes Secrets & Stardust and Deceit & Darkness. I read BSAS after reading this duology. I loved returning to Arinem and learning more about Les and Theo. Regarding reading order, I do recommend reading this book 3rd, in the publication order of the books.

Along with the action filled and emotional journey that Les and Theo embark on, I absolutely loved the found family in this book. Jeannin Counts writes a found family like no other, the bonds are so strong that they can be felt radiating off of the page! She knows a thing or two about writing epic battle scenes and steamy spicy scenes as well!

Side note, no spoilers, but the epilogue of BSAS had me so excited! It was the perfect ending to this prequel and I immediately went to reread a certain scene in Secrets & Stardust after finishing it!

I really enjoyed this book and if you're a fan of fantasy romance, I think you will too!!

I read this after reading the Celestial Whispers duology and I think it definitely stands on its own enough to be read before or after the duology.

This was a great short story following Les and Theo (only extended characters in Celestial Whispers duology because of the time difference). I loved how their friendship blossomed into lovers and the way the characters grew.

For a shorter book, this brought tears to my eyes a few times! It also immediately made me want to go and reread the duology!

I love getting more stories from characters from characters in this world and look forward to more!

Read if you love:
-Friends to lovers
-Mortals gifted with powers
-Overthrowing overlords
-Meddling gods
-Only one horse
-He falls first

Thank you to the author for the gifted eARC. My thoughts are entirely my own.

I received a digital ARC and am now sharing my honest review.

Interesting concept for a story. Enjoyable read if you are looking for an epic story without the massive page count. With that comes, for me, not enough character development or details. There were days that were glossed over where I would have loved another scene. Example: stuck at an inn waiting for others when our FMC is unsure how to act around the MMC because she has feelings but isn’t ready for a relationship. Other times the events were too convenient. Example: The main group spent all this time traveling and as soon as they get home their family member being held captive is being transferred so they can get him back without much planning.

I love the concept and set up for the series as this was a prequel, but I’m not sure I match with the writing style enough to want to continue.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I have been WAITING to dive back into this world since I read the original duology and this is exactly what I needed. Getting Les and Theo's story and the history of the world really makes the rest of the series feel even more real. Jeannin did such a great job giving the characters depth and bringing the world to life. This is a truly phenomenal series, especially for her debut.

I haven’t read the Celestial Whispers Duology but this prequel works perfectly as a standalone and it definitely made me want to dive into the main series. It is a fast paced story with a slow burn romance and an epic fantasy quest. The bond between the two main characters feels genuine and is built on years of friendship, love, and trust. I also loved the sense of found family that developed with the side characters who each played an important and memorable role in the story. If you are into immersive well written adventures this one is worth picking up.

it's funny how even though I already have an idea of what's about to happen, I still get all of the feels when it happens!

A prequel to Of Secrets and Stardust, we get some insight into Alessia and Theo. I adored their love story, and even more so, I loved Les's journey.

This book was single POV and Les learned a lot! she is a very different kind of FMC from Iyana, and I loved the contrast here! The history of the stars and the humans was fascinating.

While this release was chronologically 3rd in the series, I think it could be cool if a first time reader started with this one. They would have a completely different experience, and that's really special!

Jeannin created such a cool world, so I'm glad that we got to go back to it

overall: recommend

I loved this little prequel, giving us insight into the first Aztia and Kanaliza.

Alessia and Theo are two rebel humans, working to do all they can to help the humans and fight against the stars keeping them all under their thumbs. Alessia is more powerful than the average human, with the ability to control all the elements, and Theo is the perfect warrior to complement and back her up. To round out our little group, we have Erik Holygazer and his wife Odile, and Vadim and his son Will. We also learn that Scuti and Okab have been helping the human resistance as best they can while not getting caught.

I loved getting to see some of the characters we got to know during Deceit and Darkness make another appearance in this prequel story, including some familiar surnames of our favorites! Seeing everything that Les and Theo went through is trying to fight against the stars, we really see that they are almost fighting a losing fight. That is, until they visit the resting place of the sleeping gods. They appeal to Zaya, the Goddess of Life, for more power to have a fighting chance against the stars, and maybe even banish them. Honestly, for how much Alessia and Theo were appreciative and annoyed with Zaya, I loved her! Mostly annoyed with these lowly humans waking her up from her nap. But she bestows the power of the Aztia and then her Kanaliza to bring her all the power she needs.

The absolutely amazing banter between Les and Theo! It may not be something you expect from two best friends, but they both give as good as they get! And Theo has been in love with Les for as long as we know them. But with them living in the middle of war, surviving against the stars, Les is afraid to let herself get close in that way with anyone. And she knows that he is a constant in her life, she just can't fathom losing him. To the point that she will put herself in danger alone to keep him safe. But he always comes to bail her out of trouble. And when they ignite? Woo! The flames buuurrrnnnn!!

Some favorite quotes:
"You and I both know you like to play with your food. I had at least five seconds of wiggle room to disarm you, which is four more than I need."
"Because I'm the think that goes bump in the night. The monster that you warn your children about. One of the only things the stars fear."
Theo was the only person who knew her completely and could bring out the best in her. The only one capable of cheering her up when life was beating her down.
Theo was the singular light with her darkness, and Les couldn't bring herself to push him away.
"Since when do you say 'tough titties'?" "Since you decided to aggravate me so g0dsdamn thoroughly that it was the only appropriate thing to say."
Hadn't she always been drawn to Theo? He was the one person who knew her inside and out, who saw all of her and still wanted to be near her. The one who could always cheer her up.
"You really need to stop trying to die on me." "Will do. If only for your mental health." "I appreciate that."
"...the way we help them now is by surviving. We survive so that we can save them another day."
"Why would you come after me, you stupid man?" "I'll always come for you, idiot."
"G0dsdammit Les. Would you please just let me love you?"
Phaedros take her, what was she so scared of? He would never intentionally hurt her, and she knew that. He had seen every facet of her--the goods and the bads--and he still wanted to be by her side.
Being there, tucked in Theo's embrace, she found herself completely content. And that... that scared her more than anything she'd ever faced before. But Les was finding maybe some things were worth the fear.
"You still love me?" "Through the nine hells and back. Until my body turns to dust and even after. You'll never rid yourself of me."
Too much hope could blind one to reality.
"I already told you I will follow you anywhere, Alessia. Even if it's to the Everlands. Even if it's through the nine hells, I will follow you. Do you understand me?"
"We have more to lose, and that makes us dangerous."
These shadows that bound her were nothing, Les realized. She was The Wraith. She lived within the shadows, had let them become a part of her. They would not hold her back.

If you love a romantasy with friends to lovers, assassin FMC and MMC, only one horse, he falls first, meddling gods, stars and humans, and found family, check out Between Stars and Salvation and the rest of the Celestial Whispers series!

ARC Review—SPOILERS

OMGGGGGG Wow!!!! Theo and Les are so swoon worthy ugh I love them so much! 😍🥵🤌🏻 I love the whole Celestial Whispers universe so I was so happy to get a prequel for more backstory. If you’re reading the prequel after reading the duology you’re going to get a lot of context info that will fill in some gaps that may have had you guessing beforehand—which is exciting to have those answers! This story was fast paced, easy to follow, and felt like so much happened in 300 pages that it felt like I read a 1,000 page epic fantasy! Jeannin has this way of capturing the reader and making you jump in so fully you don’t even realize it. I thought for sure Will was going to get killed, so I was so happy for Vadim when they all saved him! When I realized Erik was a Holygazer I was like HOLD UP! Like…Zane (our sweetest baby) Holygazer?! What a nice twist that was!! Erik’s death was so heartbreaking I truly felt so bad for Odile 😭💔 When Zaya mentioned someone had to be a willing sacrifice, I couldn’t recall if that was a missing factor in the duology that we as the reader did not know. But Erik became the willing sacrifice this time and in a similar fashion a certain someone becomes the willing sacrifice for the ultimate redemption in Deceit and Darkness. Whenever Les and Theo went into the tree and notified Gana and Yrza were gone that made me think that made they were on one of their adventures that had been mentioned in the duology or at the big library. The big battle scenes are quite similar, but Les’ power is simply unmatched she truly just wished the stars were gone and POOF they were. It was heartbreaking hearing how Scuti and Alyssa were tortured and how she was killed. I know we got a vague description in D&D, but that was rough knowing again how empty Scuti looked and felt and how powerless he was to help his starmate. The epilogue is one of my favorite passages because it ends with Iyana showing up in Les and Theo’s meadow just like how she does in the duology. I love how everything and everyone in this universe is connected and that the magic is so unique. I’ve never come across a magic system like it. Overall I am obsessed and I loved it! This prequel would be great to read before or after reading the duology. Jeannin also spoils us again by giving us another amazing Spotify playlist! I will forever recommend this story to everyone!

Between Stars and Salvation by Jeannin Counts

The gods are silent. The stars are merciless. And Alessia, the assassin raised in the shadows has spent her life fighting a war she can’t win. The stars, powerful beings who fell from the heavens, have enslaved humanity for centuries, but Alessia and her partner Theo refuse to stop fighting. Magic is fading from the world… except in her, where it’s growing stronger and far more dangerous.

When the resistance leader’s son is taken hostage, Alessia and Theo set out on a desperate mission to rally allies and awaken the sleeping gods. But with loyalties shifting, destinies calling, and their bond burning hotter with each battle, the cost of victory might be more than either can bear.

I adored this story. It was so exciting travelling back to see the backstory of one of my favourite duologies ever, especially with some familiar faces making an appearance. Like the duology, I fell hopelessly in love with every character, not just the mains, but the side characters too. And of course… Jeannin, why must you cause me pain like this? 😩😭 It’s emotional, heart-wrenching, and somehow beautiful all at once.

And that ending? Omg. I was SCREAMING... doing my little I remember this, I remember this dance 😂

Favourite quotes:
💔 “But I will always come for you. It doesn’t matter where; you could be in the Nine Hells themselves, and I’d brave them to stand at your side.”
💔 “She loves me.” — the moment I read this, I cried. Actual tears. The feels were too much. 😩😍
💔 “Even if it’s to the Everlands. Even if it’s through the nine hells, I will follow you.”

If you want romance forged in the heavens, rebellions that burn bright, and an ending that will leave you gasping… this book will claim your soul.

An exciting story to jump back into this world and get even more of the history of how their world ended up as it did.

You follow the original Aztia and Kanaliza, Les and Theo, at a time when the gods have abandoned the humans and the stars are ruling with cruelty. Les and Theo were orphans who trained their lives to become assassins, and Les has some powerful magic of her own that they use to help found a human resistance and go against the stars. But when all hope seems lost, they forge alliances with other kingdoms including the shifters and end up making it to the gods realm where Les is gifted the more power from the gods and becomes the first Aztia in order to take down the stars. With new alliances and even more power, plus some help from some familiar stars siding with the humans, the question becomes will it be enough.

I really enjoyed getting to fall back into this universe with another gripping and romantic story. The friends to lovers bond between Les and Theo was adorable and seeing him pine and her slowly start to open up made this book even more enjoyable. I also liked how there was a whole new cast of characters to love but some familiar faces as well and I quickly grew attached so I was emotionally devastated several times in this book. I hope the author continues to write in this world as I enjoy the magic system, the world building and many of the characters! Overall my rating 4.5/5!

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!

The events of this book predate the Celestial Whispers duology and are about the original Aztia and Kanaliza.

The gods are silent and left the world at the mercy of the stars. Brutal and merciless beings who fell from the heavens imbued with magic and strength, they enslave the humans at random. Sometimes even killing them just for sport.

Alessia (Les) and Theodonus (Theo) were both trained since a young age as assassins. They’ve spent their lives rescuing small pockets of societies from the stars and picking off these stars who cross their paths. But Alessia’s magic grows as she does. But it’s not enough to rescue one of her found family when he is taken by the stars.

Alessia and Theo embark on a desperate rescue mission to rally allies of the resistance and find the sleeping gods to beg for their help. In the battle for the freedom of humans, victory will demand magic, strength, betrayal, blood and a willing sacrifice. The stars will fall. But who will rise from the ashes?

I read this after reading the Celestial Whispers duology. It’s absolutely brilliant and adds another dimension to the amazing world the author has painted. It also adds to the characters mentioned in the duology and explains so much of the past. I’ve said this before but it’s always so refreshing to read about an FMC in a fantasy book that isn’t a 17 year old! If you haven’t seen the author’s work, make sure you pick up a copy of her duology and this prequel when it releases 26th August!

Between Stars and Salvation is a beautifully devastating romantic fantasy that took me by surprise — and completely wrecked me in the final act.

As a prequel to Jeannin Counts’ upcoming Celestial Whispers duology, this story stands firmly on its own. The romance is slow-burn and emotionally intense, the stakes are high with impossible choices, and the writing is lyrical without being overly flowery. It’s grounded, yet sweeping — intimate, yet weighty.

The connection between the main characters is raw and powerful, built on love, loyalty, and sacrifice. There were moments I had to pause just to feel what the characters were going through. I cried through the last quarter — not because of shock, but because the emotional payoff earned it.

My only small note is that there were a few pacing shifts or timeline transitions that slowed me down, but nothing that dulled the emotional impact.

If you love romantic fantasy with character-driven plots, deep emotional tension, and just the right amount of heartbreak, this one belongs on your radar.

“I’ve had over ten years of imagining every little thing I could do to you, love. So, when I say everything, I mean it.”

I don't think there has been a book by Jeannin Counts that hasn't made me cry 😭😭 I have to say that this book was so so good and very engaging despite the fact that I knew the general ending since I read the main series first. I was hooked from the first page and absolutely loved Theo and Les! Their banter was really good, and I loved the friends-to-lovers trope! I liked seeing the similarities between this book and the main series because you can really tell what was fated to occur again with Iyanna and what was completely unique to each group of friends. It was really cool to see the background of the main series after reading it, so I recommend that order in my opinion. One thing is that I didn't like how a panic attack was mistaken for an anxiety attack in the book, but that is a small detail. Also, I feel like the connection between Kiki and the rest of the group wasn't as strong, but she still did a lot for them? I think there could've been more depth. Overall though, I really enjoyed this book and devoured it! I can't wait to read more of her books!

I misunderstood and thought this was book three, but really, it’s book one. I agree with the author in reading it last, so much more powerful!! I love the prologue. Jeannin Counts has such great story ideas. After reading the first two books, this takes the story back to the beginning which was really fun to get to experience. Getting to meet Alessia, Theo, and Erik was more impactful after reading the first two books. You also get to see more of your favorite (and least favorite) stars.

This series has been difficult to rate, because I love the idea of it but I need more from the story than is given. I’m going to give this prequel 3 stars overall. There was so much potential here, but given the small size of the book things happened too fast and maybe too conveniently. There was so much more magic in this one compared to the other too, but the magic was too easy to wield.

Personally, I love friends to lovers. But this one wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked. The switch from friends to lovers happened too quickly. I loved the banter between Theo and Les, but the spicy scenes just didn’t feel genuine to them, perhaps because they became lovers so suddenly. Overall, I loved the ideas in this series and this book, but I’d have loved for this book to have been longer so that we could really see these elements shine.

🌶️🌶️ 2/5 Spice

I absolutely devoured this book! A prequel novel that had me hooked from the first page, that now has I'm itching to dive into the duology Secrets and Stardust & Deceit and Darkness.

Les, our fierce and lethal FMC, is hands down one of my favorite characters ever. She's a total bad*ss who knows how to kick butt, but beneath that tough exterior, there's a heart that Theo, our charming MMC, manages to reach. From the get-go, it's clear that Theo is head over heels for Les, but she resists him at every turn. When those walls finally come down, things get seriously heated!

Theo is the perfect balance to Les' wild and irrational decisions as they embark on a quest to free the son of the man who took them in as children from the Stars. Their journey is filled with magic, danger, and a cast of entertaining and lovable supporting characters.

Between Stars and Salvation is a fantastic read for anyone dipping their toes into the romantasy genre. It's got just the right amount of magic to keep you in awe and an assassin FMC who will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Highly recommend!

The concept of this story had me intrigued from the first page. We follow Alessia, who has been trained since she was a child to fight stars in order to save as many humans as she can. These stars are powerful beings who have taken over the lands since the Gods went to sleep. Before the Gods slumbered, they blessed some of the humans with powers to help them defend against the stars, but over the years, those powers have been diluted and are no match for the powerful beings. Alessia, with the help of her found family, finds a way to gather more magic and fight the stars on more even ground - but what will she have to lose in order to gain the humans their freedom?

If you're looking for romance, magic and maybe a little heartbreak with a HEA - I would recommend giving this a read. I have not read books 1 or 2 of The Celestial Whispers, but thanks to this well done prequel, I have added them both to my TBR! I have read quite a bit of fantasy, but this was the first one I enjoyed that brought the stars to life as adversaries.

Thank you @iris.influencer.society and Jeannin for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Between Stars and Salvation was everything I didn’t realize I needed after finishing the masterpiece of the Celestial Whispers Duology.

I adored these characters. The connection, family that they created was beautiful in the height of the terror with the stars reigning. It was so nice to see where the first Atzia and Kanaliza began. Following Les and Theo’s story, we find love, humour and utter badassery. Theo is an ultimate green flag golden retriever of a man, while also being insanely deadly. Les was a badass through and through.
The love between Erik and Odile was beautiful as well. They were just as important to the story as our main characters. I also really appreciated seeing some stars from the original story, and learning more about their past.

Although Jeannin breaks my heart yet again, this story was absolutely a masterpiece. The plot was amazing, the characters so relatable and the emotions palpable.

I recommend reading the prequel after the Duology.

** Thank you to the author and their team on allowing me to serve as an ARC reader **

Plot: 4 - good, the plot and objective of the story was clear, although I felt as though some of the events of this book weren't as ""solid"" or made much sense as much as the main duology, overall it was good.
Prose: 4 - Good, prose and writing style overall fantastic. 3rd person POV
World building: 3 - Solid , a little superficial but works with the pace of the novela
Romantic chemistry: 4 - Good, wasn’t as invested with Les and Theo as compared to Iyana and Emmeric but I think it’s because it was just a faster pace, still solid. Their story isn’t the main one.
Pace: 5 - great pace
Character development: 4 - Good, we got to see the background stories of the secondary characters mentioned in the main duology which makes their arcs even that more interesting
Emotional impact: 4 - Good, I recommend the reading order recommended by the author which is reading the prequel at the end, because if not, I don’t think I would’ve been as emotionally attached to this world as I was for this book.

3.9 out of 5 -- Rounded up to 4 stars

This book completely pulled me in from the first page. The pacing was perfect, every chapter kept me hooked, with writing that flowed beautifully and world-building that felt alive. The unfolding plot drew me in so deeply that I needed to know these characters, to understand their struggles, and to see where their journeys would lead.

Les’ development was one of my favorite aspects of the book; watching her grow through moments of action, romance, grief, loss, and triumph made the story feel rich and layered. I especially appreciated how the author balanced realism and hope: allowing for painful but realistic outcomes, like accidentally letting go of the stars she loved, while still giving her a well-earned happily ever after and a family of her own.

This prequel sets the stage for The Celestial Whispers series brilliantly. It teases just enough to make you desperate for what’s next, and if life hadn’t gotten in the way, I would’ve devoured this in a single sitting. I can’t wait to dive into the full series!

I want to start by saying I haven’t read the duology, but I definitely will be reading it now!

This story sets up a universe where the gods have abandoned us and the magic wielding stars are ruling with an iron fist. The human resistance (also with some, albeit limited, powers) has decided enough is enough and it’s time to stage a coup. That’s where we meet our protagonists, Les and Theo, as well as the friends that join them on their quest.

This book was so dang good. Longtime friends-to-lovers, found family, a main character who makes understandable decisions, what more can you ask for?

I really loved the patience and care from Theo, you could tell he was willing to wait forever for his happy ending. Every character’s motivations and emotions were so powerful- from the anguish at the thought of losing a friend, to the hope of a better world, I was really immersed in the world!

Definitely can’t recommend this one enough, I can’t wait to get into the rest of this universe!

✨ Childhood Friends to Lovers
✨ Secret Rebellion
✨ Stars, Gods and Magic

This prequal is everything I hoped it would be. We get an in depth look at the original Aztia and Kanaliza, some snippets of the gods and a more in depth looks at the stars. Some of Alessia’s decisions had me like “GIRL what??” But she is fierce and loyal and I love her. I love a secret rebellion and loved watching the process of recruiting the other groups and how the characters/relationships developed.

I had the pleasure of reading the Celestial Whispers Duology ARCs earlier in the year and this prequal equally blew me away! Jeannin’s writing is so lovely and captivating. If you’re looking for a fantasy series that includes action, sexual tension/yearning, unique magic systems and satisfying conclusions, all three Celestial Whispers books deliver!

Getting the chance to have been a tiny part of Jeannin’s journey in creating the Celestial Whispers duology has been such an incredible journey. I was thrilled to get the chance to be an ARC reader for Between Stars and Salvation, and to dive back into this world. Jeannin managed to create quite literally the perfect origin story. Every character we got to meet had such a special purpose to the plot. Jeannin did a fantastic job of creating full circle moments. It’s so hard to delve into a prequel when you read a series/duology and you already have an idea of how the story plays out. Between Stars and Salvation was masterfully created in such a way that it created such a seamless transition to Secrets and Stardust, but is also such an incredible introduction to the Celestial Whispers world if read first!

Between Stars and Salvation is a must-read prequel to the Secrets and Stardust and Deceit and Darkness series. For the best reading experience, I highly recommend tackling the main series first—this book beautifully expands on the world and characters you’ve come to know.

What I loved most about this prequel is how it leaves no loose ends, finally shedding light on the history of Atzia and Kanaliza, which was so intriguingly hinted at in the main series. The inclusion of the shifters and the wards of Nyr adds even more depth to the lore, making the world feel richer than ever.

My favorite part was definitely Les’ second confrontation with the sleeping gods—the dialogue in that scene was outstanding and packed a real punch. If you’re a fan of the series, this prequel is both satisfying and essential!

Thank you to Jeannin Counts for providing me with a copy of the book. I am excited to leave a review.

Between Stars and Salvation is a prequel novel in the Celestial Whispers series and releases on 8/26/25. The story can be read on its own without reading the other books in the series.

I loved reading this one as we got to learn more about Les and Theo after briefly meeting them in the previous books. The events of this story beautifully explain the context of events that are referred to in the other 2 books.

Les and Theo are an amazing MC team. Their history prior to the story creates great tension to develop their relationship further. I will definitely re-read this series.

Where Stars rule and Gods sleep, rebellion sparks in the shadows

Alessia also known as Les, embarks on a dangerous mission with her best friend Theo to rescue the resistance leader’s son from the Stars, celestial beings who once fell from the heavens to rule while Gods sleep. Their journey is anything but simple: added by a Star friend with divided loyalties and joined by fierce wolf shifters, Les and Theo find themselves pulled deeper into a war that threatens the balance of their world.

This prequel to Celestial whispers duology blends high stakes battles and unlikely alliances. While the story concludes with an intense clash, it lays the foundation for even bigger confrontations to come.

I forgot to review this when I finished a week or so ago, and for that I apologize.

This prequel was a lovely look into the first Aztia and Kanaliza, and the first time the stars were banished to the skies. I enjoyed how the relationship between Alessia and Leo had (IMO) a similar dynamic to that of Iyana and Emmeric, though instead of enemies-to-lovers this time we see friends-to-lovers. We still have a found family in this book, with side characters that you come to care for. There is also danger, death, and sacrifice. I enjoyed seeing more of Scuti and Okab. The storyline was just as captivating as the first two books.

I received a copy of this series and am voluntarily leaving a fair and honest review.

Thanks to the Iris Influencer Society for sending me an early copy of this stunning prequel!

If you love assassin heroines, soft but steady MMCs, rising magic, rebellion, and a dash of cosmic lore, you need this book on your radar.

Alessia and Theo got under my skin in the best way. Their connection is built on silent understanding, loyalty forged in chaos, and tension that simmers beneath every glance. The story moves with purpose, the world feels lived-in, and for a prequel, it carries way more emotional weight than I expected.
