A whirlwind romantic comedy about two friends who can’t stay out of each other’s lives…so they do it live.
Essie Romero made a graduate debt free and land a cutthroat banking job. Masked and anonymous, this coed by day and camgirl by night almost has it all. Unfortunately for Essie, she never saw Dalton Cavendish coming (which is surprising, honestly, because this six-foot-five snack of a man is impossible to miss).
Dalton has no plans. Dalton is a hot mess—emphasis on hot—but a mess, nevertheless. This charismatic finance bro’s “work hard, play hard” lifestyle breeds chaos—chaos Essie can’t avoid now that her good friend Dalton is going to be her sort-of stepbrother…and coworker at DC’s top investment bank.
Luckily, nobody can handle chaos like Essie…until an evening of margaritas, mistaken identities, and mishaps leads to Essie and Dalton hooking up and accidentally livestreaming it. It’s a nightmare—until the tips pour in, and Essie convinces Dalton to join her streams as a mysterious, masked camboy.
Working on finance by day and filming at night—and with their parents’ wedding less than a month away—Essie and Dalton both have to stick to the camming is strictly business. But when their bank faces collapse, Dalton and Essie are pulled into the deal of a lifetime and all plans go out the window…
…except for Dalton’s not-so-secret plan to finally make the camgirl of his dreams love him back.
MASKS AND MISHAPS is a ridiculously steamy, full-length romcom about a camgirl and a finance bro who probably shouldn’t be doing this…but are so going to do it anyway. It is the breathtakingly messy finale to the Streams and Schemes trilogy, but can be read as a standalone.
Rebecca Kinkade is a Mexican/Filipina-American contemporary romance author who writes competent leads who work hard and love harder. She currently lives in Los Angeles and assumes that makes her inherently interesting. She has a BA and an MBA and is 100% positive that the most valuable thing she got out of those experiences was content for her books.
Listen Rebecca will give you exactly all the level of spice you are looking for and more!!! This was above 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️❤️🔥
If you haven’t read any of her other books, then go read them because you are missing out on the most freaking awesome books in your life!! Spicy Level is off the charts 📈
how can I give this book more then 5 stars?!!! thank you thank you to Rebecca Kinkade for the advanced reader copy!
😭🥹💕 there is life before reading Masks and Mishaps and now there is life after Masks and Mishaps WOW 😭💕 I’m calling it Kinkaded™️
This romcom is laugh out loud, five alarm HOT, found family pure joy! NO ONE writes the most heart-wrenching and emotional scenes, yet the SPICIEST hotter-the-surface-of-the-sun smutty perfection, quite like RK!
I have been WAITING for the final installment of the Streams and Schemes series, and Daddy Dalton and Essie EXCEEDED all my wildest dreams and hopes! Essie and Dalton have been tiptoeing around each other for 2 YEARS and yet their relationship made the wait all worth it. Dalton’s unhinged chaotic energy matches Essie’s oldest-daughter competence and while they are soon to be step-siblings (and also co workers, because of course), their chemistry makes their relationship WORTH IT!
Standouts for me: their friendship/group chat moments, the Cracker Barrel mention (IYKYK), and Dalton’s very specific POV/brand of chaos 😂
UNBELIEVABLE PERFECTION 💕👌🏻

Masks and Mishaps is a book where the good (slutty) guys (and girls) win and the bad guys get fucked … I mean cucked.
Going INTO this book, I knew it was going to be an easy 5/5 for me as RK books usually are. Masks and Mishaps FAR exceeded my expectations and went straight to the top of my favorites.
There is something so special about Rebecca Kinkade books. The writing is so quick and flows so well that you almost miss it. After almost every single paragraph or dialogue exchange I had to take a second and laugh or think about it bc it was so funny or so interesting and I didn’t see it coming.
Not only her writing, but the way she fosters community with her readers. Not to mention the kick ass emails and analytics!!!
One of my friends asked who my favorite couple was and truly can’t pick, but this is how I feel about each 🥰
💕 Valeria and Lander feel like the couple that has always been together and they’re solid
💕 Cora and Everett are crazy and saucy and wild in the best way
💕 And Essie and Dalton feel like me, they feel like home

“He could be thinking about me. He could be thinking about the pussy he hasn’t tasted yet and the cum he wants to leave inside me.” I mean really it’s a toss up!
“After he left on Friday night, I rubbed the cum he put on my belly into my skin. It felt filthy and ridiculous, and I did it precisely for that reason—because filthy and ridiculous is what Dalton would have wanted. And that’s not all I did with his cum.” Oh. My fucking. God
“But I can’t fuck you without bringing feelings into it. You know how I feel about you. I haven’t even been with anyone else since I met you.” Simp simp simp!!! I love himmmm

Oh my god is he about to put that tequila bottle inside her
“You’re so ready for it,” I murmur in admiration and start slowly fucking her with the tequila bottle. “Is there anything you won’t take in this pussy?” “A cock that isn’t yours,” she responds before her eyes drop to my crotch.” OH. MY. GOD
“There you go,” I grit, working myself more aggressively now. “Look at you, letting your stepbrother fuck his bottle into you. Look at your pussy weeping onto it. Thousands of dollars—and I’d buy a hundred more just to fuck you with them.” OH MY GOD

“I like your mess. The bad mess is that our parents got together before we did.”
Somebody make an edit of that tiktok sound “you came.” “You called” for chapter 22
“You came for me,” I repeat, unable to tear my eyes from his handsome face. “Even though I told you I needed space, you still came for me.” His expression tightens as he bends to look at me. “In what world,” he says, “would I not be the first one here if you needed someone? And yes, I know I’m not supposed to be here, but I am. I’m going to be here for the rest of your life, no matter how much it kills me. And I’ll film with you, and I’ll walk you down the aisle at your wedding—wait, shit. That’s not right. Oh pleaaseeeee tell me they’re gonna make their own camming platform
The end of chapter 30 made me CRY

“My life has been a series of mishaps—some better than others—but the sense of control I feel with Essie is a high I’ve never experienced before.” I’m crying 😭😭😭
“To me, the most worthwhile things have never been simple or straightforward. They’ve been complicated and messy and hard-won at times, but they’ve been worth it—so entirely worth it.”
“And I’ll feed you. I’ll dress you. Make more money for you than you ever imagined. I’ll put you on my lap and fill your pussy while you make more money than you ever imagined. Take it. Let Daddy take good care of you forever. Take everything from me, Essie.” CRYINF SCREAMING GIGGLING KICKING MY FEET EVERYTHING
“Oh shit, Hannington, they cucked you.” HAHAHAHA SCREAMINGGGGGG
Dalton being more upset about his Wheat Thins than quitting his job is so HIM (Also warranted bc wheat thins are amazing)
I want to give chapter 48 a hug
“The name Halcyon didn’t just come from the DC condo that catalyzed so many events in our lives; it’s also a word that describes an idyllic, happier time in the past.” This is the beginning of an outro speech for a movie while inspirational music plays in the background and you can’t convince me otherwise (compliment)

Firstly, I want to give a HUGE shout out to Rebecca!
This was my first ever arc, and I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity! I couldn’t have picked a better book to start this journey with.
When I tell you, I was obsessively waiting for this book! Dalton and Essie have been on the back of my mind since I started this series last year. I knew their story would be a perfect storm of beautiful chaos and I was completely right!! Essie and Dalton have been teased since that first club scene in Streams and Schemes!! I knew that Norse God would be a beast but I don’t think I was prepared for the level of blushing that his quotes would cause me. I had so much fun throughout this book but it was so bittersweet to say goodbye to these characters that I’ve grown to love so much.
Essie Romero was sightly different than I originally thought she was gunna be. I knew she was the responsible one of the group, but to see that the reason she was so collected and put together is to fit the role of a parentified eldest daughter in her family was sad but weirdly relatable to me. Underneath it all though is a wildcat waiting to burst and I think that’s where her persona of Emerald X fits best. Her love of making LOTS AND LOTS of money also brought a different motivation than Valeria or Cora had. Camming is a means to an end, but the money and power that it brings her is hard for her to part from. Essie’s goals and plans are as perfectly calculated as she is, all except for the less than platonic relationship she establishes with her future stepbrother. I did understood her frustration with the way Dalton handled their courtship… or I guess lack there of. They had a chance to be something a long time ago, but Dalton’s insecurities got in the way of their relationship, and Essie was forced to move on as she has always had to do in life when their parents beat them to the alter!!
Dalton. Motherforking. Cavendish!! This man was like if Thor was a regular human but still had the impulse control of a GOD!! He is somehow metaphorically the middle child while also literally being an only child! Dalton is Essie’s foil in every way but I was pleasantly surprised to read about the deeper moments of his self worth and his longing to cement his place in the lives of the people he loves! I don’t just mean Essie and his mom either. His love for Lander and Everett was so wholesome and he I truly believe he would take a bullet for either of them (although Cora already beat him to it). His insecurities in himself are a very big driving force throughout the book even as he tries to mask it (no pun intended!) when his relationship with Essie morphs once to a pseudo professional partnership. Dalton also battles his obsession with her over his love for his mother as their parent’s wedding approaches and their lives irreversibly change! Dalton is also very clearly still hurt by his father’s betrayal and continues to seek a fatherly figure even though it eventually goes down the same path it did before. That part broke my heart because it’s something he’s been searching for his entire life, but at least he was able to be the father he never got to have to his own kids.
The ticking clock throughout this story is the wedding between Essie’s dad Porter and Dalton’s mom Alyssa. It add a taboo element and is a sobering wake up call to the not so happy pair! Throughout the story I thought for sure Porter would be an absolute jerk who would turn out to be just as bad as Dalton’s father. What actually happened was pretty surprising and an overall realistic take on strained parental relationships. While I am happy, the wedding didn’t take place. I’m also very happy that Alyssa got to have her happy ending with Porter even if that does mean they’re now married children are also legally stepsiblings!!
I also wanna touch on the side characters in the story. The camgirl trio and their simp squad are what turned this book from a 10 to 11 and I truly hope this isn’t the last we see of this friend group. Their friendship dynamic and connection are just so… I can’t explain it, but I can say that it’s not something you see in a lot of contemporaries. They have all crossed lines and boundaries and still continue to support each other through every crazy occurrence in life!!
Overall this raunchy, satirical, hilarious series will remain at the top of my leaderboard for the rest of time and I will continue to read EVERYTHING that Rebecca in the future!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Let’s f-ing gooo!! I loved this, no surprise. This whole series has such a great tone/style/voice that I thoroughly enjoy. So funny, so spicy, so much heart! You won’t find any other book/series like this out there.
I giggled internally and then also laughed out loud so much throughout this book. It’s not just the dialogue, but also the scenes/situations and how they’re set up that all lend to the humour. It’s not a typical romcom style either. Love it!
This book is VERY spicy and detailed. The scenes are plentiful and indulgent. They don’t really read as sx for sx sake, they are an integral part of the storytelling. It’s just a bit extra due to Essie being a camgirl! So do be prepared if you pick this one up.
Dalton and Essie, ah - they are both such loves 😍 My fave is still Everett by just a smidge, but I was very pleasantly surprised that Dalton took so much of my heart! He is the type of person I love to be BFFs with - the chaos amuses me so. He has no filter and is just all over the place in the most adorable and fun way. He has such a good, big heart for Essie. And Essie is just so legit - a solid, smart woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. She has a nice softness to her but is also ruthless in her goals. That said, it’s nice to have a Daddy shoulder some of that responsibility sometimes- enter Dalton ;) I absolutely loved their love. Their dynamic in and out of bed is excellent.
There’s some family elements that are really touching as well as the friendships amongst all the MCs. I’ve said this from the start but I just want to hang out and be BFFs with all of them.
Honestly, Rebecca is in a category of her own when it comes to romance, spice, and romantic comedies - you won’t find this blend of elements done this well anywhere else and with this unique voice. Check out this series, including this book - which is a perfect one to cap it off (and then check out her other books which aren’t romcoms but still have this hilarious sass to them). So sad to see this series done, but it is now one I know will be on my (very short and exclusive) comfort re-reads list!
5/5 ⭐️ Highly recommend!!
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
This book was a love letter to feminism. Rebecca Kinkade takes the basis of a good love story and transforms it into so much more.
Dalton and Essie were such a pleasure to read, literally and figuratively. Their story had me giggling one minute and clutching my pearls the next. This was a wild ride, and I say that with all the love in my heart. Taboo romance has simply never looked so good.
The story, spice, and charm of this book were exactly what I expected of Rebecca Kinkade’s works but the standout for me is her characters. Never once is the integrity, pride, or strength of Essie questioned in the narrative despite road bumps in both her life and the relationship between her and Dalton. Rebecca writes these characters with pure devotion and dedication to ensuring we get STRONG characters, FMC’s specifically.
Now, of course this is a romcom so I have to acknowledge the humour and spicy side of this story. This was genuinely one of the most fun books I’ve ever had the honour of reading. The comedic timing is second to none, hitting the mark every time.
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. HEA: HEA POV: dual 1st person spice: SO MANY open-door spicy scenes TWs: alcohol, classism, death of a mother (off page, cancer), extortion, family estrangement, narcissistic fathers, finance bros, profanity, racism, use of pejorative terms for sex workers, and sexism kinky content: anal sex, breast slapping, choking, cuckolding, cum play, daddy kink, dirty talk, double penetration with toys, exhibitionism, filming/camming, fingering (anal and vaginal), fisting, free use, masked sex, masturbation, nipple play, oral, public sex, rim jobs, sex toys, size kink, spitting, squirting, titty sex, vaginal sex standalone: book 3 in the Streams and Schemes series final thoughts:Rebecca Kinkade I love you Once again, Rebecca blew me away with a book. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I giggled and kicked my feet. This book was so good, so spicy, and a really exciting ending to the trilogy of best friends group dating another best friend group. All the characters you know and love make appearances and continue to add color, laughter, and spice to the series. Essie and Dalton are a couple I anticipated since their first meeting. I was so worried at how they would all get their happy endings but Rebecca did an amazing job of wrapping up the storylines without feeling cheated by anyone. I loved being able to see more of Essie and Dalton: what makes them tick, how smart they are, how much they support each other, how far they’re willing to go for themselves and their friends. (MILD SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK 2) I was so excited about the forbidden future step-sibling storyline and how it would be navigated and 😍 it was done so well. I wish I could read about this world and group of characters forever, I love all their quirks and kinks and banter.

I truly loved the buildup between Dalton and Essie’s relationship in the two previous books - Streams & Schemes and Tips & Trysts. And I was eagerly anticipating their story and finally seeing them come together and address their attraction. I hate to say that this book just didn’t hit for me.
There were some aspects that just didn’t work for me. 1. The step-siblings angle felt a bit contrived. Two consenting adults who have been friends for the last two years and are clearly harboring intense attraction to one another…feel seriously conflicted about addressing any of this with their to-be-wed parents. It’s one of the central conflicts of their relationship and drives them to hide it from their respective families - while also driving their “let’s just cam together until the wedding” pact. This felt like one of those plot conflicts that could have been resolved with one open and honest conversation (with Dalton’s mom most likely, who spent the last two books positioned as THE MOST understanding and caring of any of the adults in the MMC’s lives). 2. Dalton is framed as a real finance BRO. And I do mean BRO. While he is also highly sensitive, categorically unfiltered, and perhaps just a touch of a himbo…he begins the book as a heavy drinker. Indeed there are multiple references to him having a repeated pattern of getting blackout drunk. While this does not happen in the present timeline of the story, he certainly drinks to excess on page. I was discomfited by how this was relayed in the first 40% of the book, where it can come across as an active drinking problem, then left by the wayside once his relationship with Essie begins. Are we trading one addiction for another here? IDK, but it left a sour taste behind.
Rebecca Kinkade is really smart about using kink as a mechanism to explore power dynamics and interpersonal relationships. Indeed, if you like daddy kink and breeding, the dirty talk in this book will satisfy. I adore how it plays out when coupled with enemies/rivals to lovers. The dynamic here was the author’s first foray into friends-to-lovers, and I applaud the effort at expanding their repertoire. It’s a very different dynamic and a little bit of a fumbled landing IMO as someone who loves both tropes. If you are looking for the rom-com vibes and antics of books 1 and 2, the humor has a much lighter touch in book 3.
Tropes: masked daddy daddy kink friends to lovers touch her and die camgirl FMC finance bro MMC step siblings Dual POV
Daddy, please..... don't let this be the end! I have loved every sexy millisecond of this series and the idea of not getting any more books from this group of 6 makes me sad! I hope we do! Even a fun novella set in the future would heal my heart from the idea of not seeing these characters again.
Rebecca Kinkade is the Queen of writing spice, banter, and not socially acceptable norms, into masterpieces. I just have to say this, Kinkade can open your ideas and help you view things that you were taught to see one way, as another, and I truly appreciate that.
In Masks and Mishaps, we finally get our Dalton and Essie book!!! I've been so excited for this one. We've watched Dalton pine over Essie for 2 books now, but what I loved about this story, is that Essie mutually wanted him back! I don't know if I ever caught that before, so excuse to re-read this series? Yes! They had become the best of friends, with the idea that one day, they'd be more but that all came crashing to a halt when Dalton's mom and Essie's dad decide to get married!
What I love about Essie is not only is she super smart, getting into the banking world, but she enjoys being a camgirl. It's all about the money for her, and she's not afraid of admitting she likes money. She's so good at computers and that's come in handy not only for her camming business, but that of Valeria and Cora, her best friends too. When Essie and Dalton were talking about how the cam site takes a % cut, I kept saying "Essie, you could create your own site!" I was rooting for her and knew she could be the positive change in other people's businesses.
Dalton.... look, I already thought you were fun. You're the party boy to Essie's alter ego's party girl persona in real life. We knew you were sweet and kind... and have the most amazing bromance ever to be written in books ever. But what I didn't know what that you'd be my new Masked Daddy. Oh yeah. That was the happiest surprise I had from this book rofl. I giggle, but I really love a masked daddy in books and the fact that Dalton is one, tops the cake for me! I also had no idea he'd be so touch her and die, and that was sexy as hell. I think I love Dalton. No, I know I love Dalton. He's officially my favorite Kinkade MMC. I said it.
I truly loved this book. I loved the dynamic and relationship between Essie and Dalton. I loved seeing their friends and that banter. And Dalton's mom, Alyssa, who's the mom we all strive to be when we grow up. I just loved this series so much and if you've not read it yet, and love to laugh while reading like me, and enjoy spice (it is verrrrrry spice), Go Read This.
It doesn't feel like there are adequate words to capture every amazing thing there is to know about this book and this series, but I'm determined to try because Essie Romero and Dalton Cavendish deserve that much for being the beautiful tornado of chaos that they are. 🌪️
We've spent years with these two already, knowing full well that they were meant to be, so coming to their book and knowing that becoming step-siblings was now standing in the way of fate-I couldn't help but wonder how Rebecca was going to make this work for them. But I know never to doubt mother, and mother mother'd all over this book with the 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗼, 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻, 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝗲𝘅𝘆, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 journey these two go on together. And all while they secretly film 𝗵𝗼𝘁, 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘆, 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 masked cam streams together. 🎭
I absolutely love everything about these two; Essie’s calm through a storm, the storm that is Dalton Cavendish, Dalton’s big love for Essie 𝗮𝗻𝗱 messes, and Essie 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 doing something for her own damn self for once!
The spice is just non-stop, and it is 𝘀𝗼 hot, but it’s also a vehicle for these two to finally express their feelings and really see how right they’ve been for each other ever since that first meeting 2 years ago. The book is a fast burn spice-wise, but their story is the sweetest, sexiest, most heart-wrenching angsty slow burn of the series. At this point, these two have danced around their attraction for long enough, literally no one should be surprised at how easy it was for them to 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗽 and finally give into it.
And our boy Dalton-the overachiever that he is-I’m fully in love with the fact that he spends the majority of the book like this (happily, I might add):
Beyond the spice, humor, shock & awe of this final installment, I believe that this book and this series at its core is about three women who have taken circumstances that would have broken most of us down and have turned around and made them into opportunities for their own advancement and growth. They’ve found a family within their trio, and have been able to carefully add these three men to it who have done the work to prove they are worthy enough of their time and effort to be included.
We read a lot of romance novels about men coming in and saving the day & taking care of the woman they love’s problems. That can have its time and place, but I personally resonated so much with this series and these FMCs because their partners had the means, and even tried at first, to step in and save the women they love; wanting to make things right for them just because they could and they wanted to. But they learned very quickly that they needed to get used to stepping back while watching & supporting the women they love as they save themselves, each other, and often the men that wanted to save them in the first place. 😘
This is a top-tier series for me, and I can never recommend it enough. Rebecca is forever an instant read author-I don't care what the book is about, I'm reading it every time. I absolutely recommend this book and series to anyone whose curiosity is even a little piqued at the blurb/tropes/reviews, but I do recommend starting with Book 1 because all of the stories are amazing, and they all build on each other as they go.
and with that, the beloved Streams and Schemes series has come to an end…. 🤧
i love the characters in this series so so much and one of my favorite things about Masks and Mishaps is the cameos of all the gang being together. found family is in my top 3 favorite tropes and these couples; Lander and Valeria, Cora and Everett, Essie and Dalton, are the epitome of found family.
i was able to take the time to re-read the first two installments of this series to immerse myself back into the world prior to reading MandM and i got so giddy every time Dalton and Essie were mentioned on page. where each book can totally be read as stand-alones, i highly recommend reading the first two so you can get a good background on Dalton and Essie’s friendship/obsession with each other. i really craved those small “friendship” moments that were discussed heavily throughout MandM. however, their smutty scenes were absolutely filthy as promised, and i enjoyed the hell out of them! 🥵
one thing i admire so much about RK’s work is how seamlessly she writes the dirtiest scenes woven into an incredible plot. with that being said, Masks and Mishaps plot/subplots felt jumbled at times to where i was having to focus to keep up. in the same breath, it was to be expected that Dalton and Essie’s story would be “messy” in a good way given that Dalton is literally a self-proclaimed “hot mess” (and we love him for it!!!!). you literally never know what that man is going to say and i laughed out loud so many times (suddenly i want to give Wheat Thins another try). and pls pls pls HIS TATTOOS. I- 😭 i liked getting to know a little bit more about how Essie’s brain works. that revenge plot was absolutely cunning and i loved every moment of it!
overall, while i may not have connected with Dalton and Essie’s story as much as i did with the previous two couples, i still had a good time reading and i will genuinely miss these characters so so much! i absolutely look forward to Rebecca’s upcoming Why Choose series. 🫶🏾 it’s such a privilege to have been one of Masks and Mishaps early readers!!
Full RTC: nobody talk to me I am MOURNING. Insert sad horny sobbing here. I can’t believe the series is over but DAMN DALTON AND ESSIE ARE SO HOT.
I didn’t think it was possible, but this book somehow topped the last 3 and became my favorite. (Please, I feel like I’m cheating on Everett and Lander). I have been patiently awaiting Dalton and Essie and they did not disappoint. God they are so fucking HOT and good lord 😮💨
My only regret with this series is not reading this series sooner. When everyone else moves on, I’ll still be in the restaraunt. Dalton and Essie are the PERFECT wrap up and I can’t wait to give you more detail in my next post. For now, add Streams & Schemes to your Tbr if you haven’t already 🫵Tipa and Trysts is book 2. And then read Masks & Mishaps and thirst over Dalton with me.
I PROMISE YOU WONT REGRET IT. I’VE HAD A FEW PEOPLE READ THIS BECAUSE OF ME AND IT IS A BLAST!!! IM BEGGING!! ON MY KNEES.🧎🏻♀️🧎🏻♀️🧎🏻♀️
While I really loved most aspects of this book, I felt like the connection between Essie and Dalton was not quite the same as the love between the other couples in this series, and we didn’t get as much banter and shenanigans with the entire friend group.
I REALLY loved the business storyline of this book. Essie finding her way through the financial community and how it ended with her starting her own female led sex-work camming company was so incredible. I loved every aspect of it from Weston being an awful jerk, to Claudia being a major investor. It was all really unique and smart and fun to read.
I also loved the familial plot. Essie and Dalton kind of always thought they’d be together once Dalton (in his words) “got his shit together” but their parents unexpectedly finding love together threw a wrench in it. I loved the “we can’t be together” forbidden element of the story. I loved Essie’s brothers and father and how they all were brought together in the end in a really lovely way. I have absolutely ADORED Dalton’s mom Alyssa throughout the series.
As for Essie and Dalton themselves…I was kind of meh about them. I didn’t get a spark from them together, there almost TOO much push and pull about them being together, I felt like Dalton was constantly walking right into heartbreak, and Essie didn’t feel as layered as she did in the other books.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
• Amazing. Perfect. Obsessed. I’m in love. Amazing. Did I say that already? 😂
• You know when a series ends and you’re just so bummed about it but at the same time you smile. Yeah that’s me right now. I did cry though. I’ll admit it, with no shame. I’ve been with Rebecca since the beginning of this ride and MAN, it’s been a fun one. 😏 I’ve adored every damn minute. Love you babe.
• Essie & Dalton, my little love muffins. I was so damn excited for these two. Let down? Not in the slightest. My babe Essie is a baddie as all the FMCs in this series are, no surprise there. Our cunning little mix. The detergent pen part. Gahhh iykyk. You know when you yell at a book like HEYYYYY. Look! 😂 me. And Dalton, drool. This man can make any woman a puddle. His chaotic ways make me giggle. But I would expect nothing less from him honestly.
• I really don’t want to tell you too much because honestly. One - you need to read the prior books. Two - the details are just too good to giveaway. You’ll have to find out for yourself
• Listen to me. Read this series. I am screaming it at you.
A fun story with some larger than life characters! Loved the spice, check trigger warnings first!
The one liners were probably the best part of the book, they cracked me up! Here's a couple of my favorites 😂 "Dalton never misses an arm day. Arm day probably misses Dalton when he’s not around." ...and.... "I hate how he’s right, but hell is going to turn into a froyo shop with unlimited toppings before I admit it."
Daddy Dalton is "messy" and such a funny character! Loved his lack of verbal filter, it made for some spicy bedroom talk!
Underneath the surface, there's a greater message hiding...From the author: "Masks and Mishaps is a book about conventions: who we are expected to be, who we believe we’re allowed to be, and who is allowed to break convention."
you know what i love most about spicy smutty books? when the spice is so spicy and the plot is still there and giving.
this entire series is HIGH spice. and HIGH plot.
the storyline is perfect. i was captivated by these characters. i devoured book 1, 2, and 3. the characters through out the entire series continue to get better and better throughout the books.
Dalton, Dalton, Dalty, Dalt, Daddy??!?!? spectacular, give me 14 of them.
honestly, Essie and Dalton were *chefs kiss*
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
this one is high up there on the spice, it’s kinky, it’s spicy, and it’s 🥵. ( read the triggers, if some of the kinks aren’t for you, don’t read it , if they are for you, ohhh you’re gonna enjoy this one)
it’s like reading porn but in the best way, the plot was plotting. there were witty moments, great banter, laughable moments, character development, yearning? SO MUCH YEARNING!, and again, spice. so much spice and beautifully written too.
Such a fun spicy read! I was so in from the get go. I loved how the author started the book off setting the scene for the chaotic relationship between the MCs. Our FMC is bold, independent and sassy. Our MMC is full of yearning, a mix of golden retriever and Doberman boyfriend, and the dirtiest talker I may have ever read. Like fan yourself dirty. The SPICE in this book. I loved the sex positivity and empowerment messages throughout.
So aptly titled, the mishaps had be gasping! I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. The friendship between all of the characters was so fun and felt so real.
I haven’t read the first 2 books of this series but now that I’ve finished this one I definitely need to go back to where it all began.
I received an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Have you ever finished reading a book that you enjoyed so much, you just have to sit with it for a bit before your brain starts to work again?
Every Rebecca Kinkade book I’ve read makes me think, “WHY AREN’T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT HER BOOKS?” Her MMCs in this series are THE sluttiest, down bad, golden retriever men I’ve ever read. They’re in a league of their own. And the FMCs? I wake up every day depressed as shit that they’re fictional and I’m not in their friend group.
Now… about this book!
Essie & Dalton’s story had big shoes to fill after reading the first two standalones (Streams and Schemes, Tips and Trysts), and boy, did they fill em. They filled those shoes like Daddy Dalton fil—you get the point.
Dalton had the filthiest fucking mouth and I think I might have highlighted damn near everything he said to Essie. Their connection is something most people dream about having. I absolutely love that Essie embraced his chaos instead of trying to change him. He was never too much for her. And Dalton’s ability to step in and be what she needed him to be even when SHE didn’t know it, was EVERYTHING.
But my favorite part of this book was the spice and the banter. After laughing for like 30 minutes straight at this book, I realized if it was ever made into a movie, I’d be pissed if they changed the dialogue. Every joke typed out to write this book was golden and deserves its place.
The spice is the easiest 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book comes out on May 16, which gives you plenty time to read Streams and Schemes & Tips and Trysts first!
*Thank you to the author for the eARC. I am also part of the beta team and read both the beta and ARC versions.*
RK doesn't miss with this series!
Essie and Dalton close out the series with a bang, literally. I loved the masks, forbidden vibes, the dirtiest of dirty talk, and friendship/trust. E&D (and the rest of the group) live in my head rent free. RK manages to blend contemporary, spice, heart, character depth, and humor in such a way that makes these books a pleasure to consume.
I am incredibly devastated that the trilogy is over because I just love these three couples SO MUCH.
If you locked me in a room and told me I couldn’t leave until I picked ONE of the men from this series, I would sit and cry for a long time, and then I would get hungry and I would tell you without hesitation that I pick Daddy Dalton.
I’m not lying when I tell you that I cried reading the epilogue SOLEY BECAUSE I knew it was the end—the END, END and I’m not ready to let these guys go 😭😭
If you’ve seen my reviews of the other two books, you know that I’m obsessed with RK, and that hasn’t changed. Please, for the love of whatever you believe in, read this series 😩👏🏻👏🏻
WHY ARE DALTON AND ESSIE ARE SO DAMN HOT!?!? Like omg! I definitely should’ve read the first two before this one so I’m sure I missed some details but this was such a good book!
Have you ever loved a book series so much that you cry when the book ends?!
I joined the Cam girl train late and it's been a ride the whole way. There aint nothing better than 3 girls being unapologetic their escapades and I LOVED IT. The books in this series walk a fine line of hilarity and self...Exploration. and they do it well.
I really thought that Cora was going to be my girl. But Essie and Dalton took the cake. It's a lil Taboo, wanting to sleep with your step brother, no? Essie loves a good lay...down and she has no problems asking for what she wants.
If Dalton was going to do one damn thing this whole book it was talk filthily and take care of Essie. And does he do that. Many a time. Essie found her guy in finance. 6'5. Brown eyes.
Daddy Issues Abound. Deals are made. Videos get recorded. Money is exchanged. Yes. There is a good amount of smut in here. But it's literally integral to the story. And if you don't like body positive women who enjoy themselves and aren't ashamed, then shoo. This aint for you.

This was my first book by Rebecca Kinkade and I enjoyed it for the smutty read that it is. If you're looking for low stakes romance with a heavy heaping of smut, this is a so good for that.
While I have not read the previous two books in this interconnected series, the found family that all of these characters have together was so nice. I enjoyed them hanging out together and just being with each other - they made some of my favourite chapters in the book.
What did hit the rating for me the most was the perceived conflict which was that Dalton's (MMC) mum and Essie's (FMC) dad were set to get married which would make the MCs step siblings so they couldn't be together. BOOOOOOOO. I really felt throughout that this entire thing was blown out of proportion - they knew each other before their parents did, their parents aren't married yet, and they met in their 20s. It wasn't like they were brought up together or living under the same roof; for me, it just felt like a non-issue.
I felt bad for Dalton in parts of the book. The he falls first and harder trope came through strong and you could tell how much he liked her. There were parts where he was being very vulnerable about his feelings and, whether for self preservation or not, Essie was kind of a dick about it and I felt distraught for him.
Essie is a camgirl not only because she loves it, but because she loves making money. Dalton even offers to put her and her brothers through school / grad school (because he has fuck you money) and she declined. This was weird to me because it came across as she would rather pressure him into becoming a sex worker with her than just accept the money. Like fuck Dalton's feelings, right?
All in all, it was a mix of hot hot hot and why are we doing this which ultimately netted out at a 3.5 😅
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

If you’re looking for a book where the spice level breaks the thermostat, the banter bites back, and the chaos wears a three-piece suit—Masks and Mishaps is your new obsession.
Essie Romero is a financial analyst by day and camgirl extraordinaire by night. Calculated, unflappable, and carrying the weight of eldest daughter syndrome like it’s part of her 401k, she doesn’t do messy. Until Dalton Cavendish—her best friend’s boyfriend best friend, her internship coworker, and oh right, her soon-to-be stepbrother comes barreling into her life like a golden retriever who just knocked over a glass of red on a white couch. A chaotic, 6’5”, filthy-mouthed finance bro with Norse god energy and absolutely no chill.
After an accidental livestreamed hookup (you read that right), these two decide the most logical thing to do is…start a camming partnership. Just until the wedding. Totally professional. Absolutely not romantic. Definitely not doomed. (Spoiler: they’re both geniuses and somehow also complete idiots in the most endearing way possible.)
Dalton is, without exaggeration, the 📯est finance himbo I have ever loved. He’s unhinged, unfiltered, and so down bad for Essie he might as well tattoo her name on his credit score. And Essie? She’s the kind of FMC you want to be, befriend, and build an empire with. She’s smart, driven, and sexy and doesn’t apologize for any of it.
Rebecca Kinkade serves a sizzling, satirical, deeply sex-positive finale with heart, humor, and more heat than Wall Street in a recession. Finance, filth, and found family in one perfectly packaged final book. My favorite in the series and an easy 4 stars because Daddy Dalton delivered.
Swoony line:
“Every new day is the day I love you most. Ask me to do anything. The answer is always yes.”
I received an ARC copy and wanted to leave an honest review.
ARC Review! Masks & Mishaps by @rebeccakinkadeauthor ! I don't honestly know where to even begin reviewing this, simply because I know when I click post, it's officially the end of an era. I was already sappy in my hype posts leading up to this though, so I'll try not to be sappy in this one 😉 (No promises though). . Masks & Mishaps is book 3 in the Streams & Schemes Series! This book follows Essie and Daddy Dalton (and no, I will not refer to him as anything else.). . Rebecca writes powerful female characters, like our FMC Essie, a camgirl, as well as finance, and really does a phenomenal job at breaking stigma's and stereotypes around this work to show how this is real work that should not be looked down on. Essie is an absolute POWERHOUSE of a woman. No fear, goes after what she wants, and doesn't care what people think, while still having a heart of gold, caring and passionate. . Now for MMC Daddy Dalton....Dalton Franklin Richmond Cavendish the Fourth. HOLY SMOKES. If you think you've read a strong Daddy trope book before, you can toss that out the window because this takes home all the Daddy k!nk awards. He is a filthy rich businessman who very much so like Essie, goes after what he wants. . Sounds like a match made in heaven right? Not so fast. In the words of our Queen Essie: I just f^cked one of my best friends, a senior vice president at my internship, and my soon-to-be stepbrother. And I f^cked him in front of hundreds of people. . Masks & Mishaps guides you through Dalton & Essie's journey to finding love, happiness and success, in front of and behind the camera. (Pun intended.). . It's been an honor to get to read these books, feel these characters & stories come to life, and witness all the passion Rebecca Kinkade has put into these books. I am absolutely honored to be a part of her permanent ARC team and witness the love she puts into her books & love and thankfulness for her readers. The world could use more Rebecca Kinkades. (I told you I couldn't promise I wouldn't be sappy again.). The end of this era has come, but I cannot WAIT for the next to begin with our Smart Smut Queen! . 🏷 #StreamsandSchemes #spicybooks #spicybookrecs #romancebook
Heads up: I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of Masks and Mishaps from the author, but the review is my opinion alone 🫶🏻
It was always going to come to this. And by “this”, I obviously mean me being so painfully down bad for just how painfully down bad Dalton Cavendish is for Essie Romero for the entirety of Masks and Mishaps, Rebecca Kinkade’s conclusion to her cam girl/rich man series.
As much as I enjoyed this filmed, masked, size difference-filled rom com (which was a lot, for the record), I’m also sad to see the series finished. I know Kinkade will write more things I’ll probably love just as much, but there was something so special about this series.
The sex positivity, the ambition, the exploration of power and privilege through sex, the unapologetic and nonjudgmental kink, the (perfectly-named) rich men so respectfully gone for the women, the well-timed quips and banter resulting in real belly laughs—the Streams and Schemes series has been such a gift.
I could wax poetic about how much I loved Essie and how unapologetic she was about her motivations both in her cam girl career and her corporate one. I could also say a lot of things about Dalton’s absolutely filthy mouth (seriously: a lot of things).
But the thing that literally moved me to tears—while also laughing because the scene was sweet and funny—was one where Dalton was out to dinner with Lander and Everett (the heroes of the previous books), being just a big rich emo boy about how he wasn’t good enough for Essie and his boys agreed, but then also reminded Dalton how good of a friend he was and how he was deserving of her.
Like yes, Kinkade can write a romance. But she can also really write friendship. And damn but I wish more cishet dudes had friendships like that.
All of which is to say: If you like high spice contemporary romance with really smart, driven characters and you haven’t yet read this series… what are you even waiting for, my friend? 💖
There is something about a Rebecca Kinkade novel that just hits a little different. You know it’s going to be 11/10 spicy, you know it’s going to make you laugh out loud with hysterical quips and perfectly timed “da fuq?” absurdities. (In this book, look no further than Dalton’s brief trip to Salem). But Masks and Mayhem may be her best—and most authentic—book yet.
It’s clear Kinkade feels deep affection for these characters. They are not sex-positive and kinky just for the sake of it. There is deeply feminist character work being done (with both FMCs and MMCs) to further a meaningful plot that leaves her heroines—and readers—feeling empowered. It certainly doesn’t hurt that her heroes—handsome, successful, rich…but let’s face it, BROS—are so down bad for these women. She is writing a better version of our world and society, which is not fantastical enough to be avoidant of all pitfalls, but still one she sincerely hopes we can one day achieve.
Enter: Dalton. The quintessential himbo MMC. He has everything—the looks, the charisma, the adorable chaos, professional success, the obscenely large…bank account. He's not without his flaws and demons. But the biggest challenge he's currently facing is that he doesn’t have Essie. And it does not compute for him, because this man always gets whatever he wants. Especially when he’s been patiently waiting for her for two years.
To say these two come together with a bang is an understatement. To cop from Dalton reacting to BOGO chicken tenders… "Let’s f**king gooooo!!" They are a supernova, and it’s a true joy to follow their complicated relationship unfurl from an ill-fated transaction into something beautiful and tender.
This book was an incredible sign-off to a fantastic series, about three badass, hot AF women and the adorable & hunky men who love them. Lovers of spice need to run, not walk, to this trio. It will leave you with a permanent bright-pink stamp on your heart.
This series as a whole was really good. In most cases, I find myself not really caring about the whole squad and all the connected books I’ll just read it because I want to know what happens and not enough of us post spoilers. But that didn’t happen in this series. Every book I enjoyed the couples, they all were individualistic and their characters only got stronger as the series continued.
I think what gave Streams and Masks 4 stars over Tips (3 stars) was solely because I enjoyed the familial dynamics going on in the background of those two books. Tips has good familial drama going don’t get me wrong, but the dirty politician is one I’ve read a lot lately and I appreciated the uniqueness that came with Valeria and Essie. But Cora is her own kind of bad bitch.
I like that in the two previous books the family wasn’t redeemable. And the characters understood that and made peace with estrangement. But Essie was smart when she said she knows how painful estrangement can be and that she thinks her dad is one of the rare good ones that can grow and learn before it’s too late.
If you’re into stories with pro sex work look no further than these 3 books. 10/10 on all the different forms of representation in each.
