Janis Grissom has a wonderful life with great friends, a loving family, and a business she can be proud of, but something is missing.
After watching the people around her fall in love and then start a future with their soulmates, Janis yearns to have a relationship like her parents have - one filled with equal measures of laughter, love, and fireworks.
The only problem is that it’s not exactly easy for her to get along with people, and she’s not really fond of trying. That poses a problem for her dream of finding her soulmate, so Janis makes a plan to see if she can adapt to a new way of life and, in doing so, find someone to spend the rest of it with.
Now she just needs to find someone to test out her newfound skills on, and who better to do that than her mortal enemy? If she can make him change his mind about her, then she can win the heart of anyone. Right?
Bachelorhood is perfect for Corey Forrester. He’s got no one to answer to, no one that depends on him, and nobody that he has to take care of. That’s great in theory, and it was a wonderful life for a while, but now he’s ready for something new. Something permanent. Something like the love he sees blooming all around him as his friends fall one by one as they find the person that they were meant to be with.
Just a look from Janis can set him on edge, and listening to her talk is Corey’s own version of purgatory.
Until it’s not.
Corey has lived most of his life believing that Janis was the worst possible woman he could ever fall for - she’s cranky, sassy, sarcastic, and downright mean. So, why is she suddenly sexy and irresistible, and why does he have to fight to keep his hands and mouth to himself whenever he’s around her?
All the best love affairs start with fireworks, although they’re usually the good kind. However, with Janis and Corey in the same room, the explosions were often much more powerful and a lot more dangerous than backyard pyrotechnics. What started out as a test turns into something that might just stand the test of time . . . that is if life doesn’t get in the way.
Join Cee Bowerman in Rojo, Texas where she helps Janis and Corey walk that thin line between love and hate and end up on the Bright Side when they least expect it.
4.5 stars. This was hilarious. So fun and sweet and just everything I wanted to read right now. Plus I really loved getting to see more of Hank, since he’s Janis’ father.
Whooo boy, this one was fun! Janice is hell on wheels, everyone in their group knows to be careful around her. Then we learn the why of how she got that way and how it was all wrong...it really makes a person wonder, who would Janice be if that one event in the past didn't go how she thought it did.
I loved how Janice stunned everyone with her make-over, both physically and her personality. Then how she stunned more, especially Corey, when he and the twins were pulled into to help. They were in awe of what she did for work and her little side bit.
Seeing Corey and Janice get closer and become a couple was fun, more so when their whole clan started to chime in.
Things got a bit crazy towards the end and you realize that the person that Janice is, is who she is supposed to be. She handled the situation she was in like a pro, did what needed to be done and didn't let her phase her as it happened.
Oh Janis, how I love you! She is so snarky, doesn't suffer fools, and is prickly as all get out when it comes to Corey and a few others in their large circle of family and friends. Corey doesn't know what it is about Janis that is like oil to his water, or maybe that should be gasoline! Whenever they see each other, sparks fly. Yet when Janis tries to change her outlook in order to find love, suddenly Corey sees what has been right in front of him all this time. There were so many nuances to their story. The misunderstandings and Janis' sarcasm and dedication, Corey's willingness to help and learn there is more to the woman than just baking and wielding her sharp tongue. I was absolutely consumed by this book, I could have read a dozen more chapters about them and their life together! Loved every second I spent with them!
Love this book. You have to read this one! I can relate to Janis in so many ways, and watching her growth and changes through this book is inspiration. There truly is a fine line between love and hate, and I truly think hate is when love, hurt, and anger collide. This book shows how one misunderstanding from someone you love can create the hurt, fuel the anger, and then when truth unravels the anger and hurt fades, and love is what is left. Cee, please never stop writing because your books show the world how to work through and handle past traumas, unknown emotions, known emotions, sickness, and just everyday life. It shines light on situations where people are truly not alone because somewhere in this world, someone else is living it or survived it.
What a great read!!! In Zoey and Garvey's book we got a great intro into these two, but to read it unfold is something else. I have no idea how Cee does it, but each story is realistic in ways that are important but fiction romance in the best ways possible. I adore the banter between these two and the whole family/friend group. Their story unfolds from Accidental enemies, to sort of friends to true love. My heart broke a little for Janis once we learned more about her than we saw portrayed of her in previous books. While my heart broke for her, I was cheering on Corey for stepping up in ways we all hope for. As always another great read with a story as unique as the characters.
As always, anything by this amazing author is absolutely fantastic, and a definite must read! It's been obvious throughout all of the Rojo, Texas stories that these two were "mortal enemies" (as everyone has called them! Lol!), but I had no idea what the cause of the hatred was, until now. Lol!!! This story will have you cracking up laughing, along with numerous other emotions, and leave you wanting more. I would highly recommend reading all of this author's work. I have read every single book, and I guarantee that they're all absolutely fantastic stories. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
Overall I enjoyed the book. However, I had difficulty keeping up with all the characters and how they are related/friends with each other. I thought they all had ties to one of the MCs, but it has been a while since I read those books so I couldn’t remember everyone. It also seems like none of them joined any of the MCs. (I guess they still go to the club because their family are still members? 🤷♀️) I thought Janice and Corey grew up together. If that is the case, I would expect him to know about how lupus impacts Janice. I enjoyed the zingers that everyone would say to each other. They were funny.
If you’re looking for a sassy, take no prisoners grouchy, kick butt book bestie then look no further because Janis is everything you could ever want and more. Janis decides the way to find true love is to try and be not so grouchy and mean and thinks the best person to try her plan out on is her arch nemesis Corey and what ensues is hilarious, sweet, fun that turns into love and a happily ever after ❤️🖤 This one is a must read just like all of Cee’s books. Highly recommend this author.
Corey and janis have known each other forever and spent half their lives hating each other over a misunderstanding. Corey is a police officer working with other rojo 2nd gen and looking for someone special but janis is the last person he thought would be that one. Janis is known to be the moody one with a tongue of a viper but is lonely and is thinking her personality is holding people back so tries something else. So buckle up for humour insults love action and a few catch up from 1st generation
Thank you much CEE!! I'm someone who suffers from Lupus and Diabetic Neuropathy so with everything working against each it more than painful. These two were a great couple. Corey was the right Man for the job. Attentive, calm, protective and family. This whole town was family. If you haven't experienced Rojo, you're missing it. Corey is more the "not your typical Forrester." This relationship was so beyond ready, you can only be ecstatic forever comes to fruition. You'll love this too...
I've loved this series from the beginning. I've loved the growth of the characters, their stories, and their legacy. I couldn't but this book down.
But this particular book, I've never felt closer to a character and all her prickly demeanour. I loved her sass, her spirit, her one-liners. I haven't laughed out loud in a book for a long time. ....... ...... .... ..... ..... SPOILER (not major, just FMC insight) Janis is one of my all-time favourite characters; her strength while dealing with her diagnosis is awe-inspiring.
I chose this rating because this was a pretty good book. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of protection, understanding, compassion, kindness, and getting out of your comfort zone, and also believing in yourself. I enjoyed Corey and Janis story. The author did an awesome job putting these characters together. She really didn't like him at first and the same for him. She had to change her way to find out if she could be liked. Things fell in line. I enjoy this story. I recommend this book to all romance readers.
I am no good at writing reviews so I am just going to way READ it and call head over heels with these two. I absolutely love every single book by Dr Bowerman but this is the one I will definitely keep coming back to. I can honestly way that if you read this book and are not knocked over the head by it then there really is something wrong with you and I don't even mean the kind of crazy wrong that Janis and Cory (spelt wrong and the computer won't help) have. Enjoy and your welcome.
I've been looking forward to this story since Zoey's book knowing that whatever happened between Corey and Janice was going to be both explosive and entertaining. But it was also absolutely hilarious at times. The icing on this friends to lovers story is having the chance to experience more of Hank from the Texas Kings series, including the type of girl dad he still is towards his adult daughters and how he's turned into the dad every girl deserves.
As always I started laughing from the get go! Janis is a sparky, baker with a few personalities 🤣 of course I love her with her "mortal enemy" Corey a cop with RPD. This one took me an extra day to finish but Cee released it the day before MMM! I RECOMMEND everyone read her books, they make you laugh out loud with antics and personalities. As always I look forward to the next one. A forever fan!!
I loved the way the story unfolded and how characters were written. These characters have unique personalities, complicated histories, and believable interactions. This story has an enemies-to-lovers romance, twists, turns, danger, loyalty, emotional connection, and chemistry. You do not know what series of unfortunate things are going to happen next, but right from the beginning, it drew me in. This is a must-read book
OMG! I just love these two. I literally laughed through the whole book. I never in a million years would have considered these two together but they are just freaking perfect. Once they began to see each other as a possibility, all bets were off and they were just on fire. Even through the craziest moments, they made me laugh. A book you can’t put down. I already can’t wait to read it again!
I really enjoyed these characters and how they interacted with each other. Janis held the grudge against Corey all those years to find out it was the wrong twin. The makeover and attitude adjustment was funny, and it worked mostly, lol 😆. I always love seeing the older characters being intertwined in the story as well. It was great seeing Hank, Nicole, and Grunt.
Grab your copy and enjoy because I did! Happy reading!
Like usual your way of writing is f##n awesome and I love it. I start reading and I’m hooked. You have made this family so realistic and relatable and reading your books is so enjoyable. I love the wit, you make me for real lol even when I’m alone (at least then no one looks at me weird) I thank you for the journey you take us on and can’t wait for the next install. Xx
Before I started reading I wasn't sure how it was going to be as everytime Janis as been in the picture she was always so toxic and miserable but of course it all turned out to be awesome and hilarious. It's funny what can happen when you make incorrect assumptions which Janis did in on a large scale. Corey is actually hilarious and a very brave soul to go after Janis's kind of crazy....lol. She truly is Hank's daughter in every way.
I love getting to see more of the Rojo community!!!! Janis has a tough exterior to protect her soft middle and I'm glad Corey finally looked beneath the surface to see how incredibly amazing she is!!!! Corey is the strength Janis didn't know she needed and they make the perfect couple
Grumpy and crazy people even find their true love. Watching Janis and Corey figure out the dislike for each other all these years was absolutely unnecessary, and then finding their HEA was amazing. Corey was the perfect match for Janis he didn't want to change her he loved her for who she was, corks, bad moods, and all.
Loved the Bright Side with Janis Grissom and Corey Forrester! These two make a perfect couple that started from mistaken identity and a huge misunderstanding. Turned into a crazy, sexy sweet love story with drama and the normal crazy. Don’t miss out on it!!
Great story as always, Corey and Janis have been at odds over a misunderstanding but that changes and they begin to develop a life together. All the generations of Rojo have parts to play and it's great to see them again. This book is compelling and difficult to leave once you start.
It took me a bit again to figure out who this latest batch of Forresters was, finally connected them to Garvey. So weird to have a complete family show up out of nowhere with adult children that have been there for a while.
Anyway, loved Janis and Corey. They were cute and I can identify with Janis’s brand of crazy as well as her health issues.
Cee writes a funny, sexy, romantic story. Corey and Janis are a great couple. The insults and snark are next level. The friendships and family relationships are sweet and hilarious. Made my day to see this book was here. Now I’m sad because I read it to fast and now it’s over. Anticipating the next book from Cee…
I don't I have missed one yet and that's started late with Kale I had book in library but once I started I not stop reading no story is the same and all the folks and family it reminds of mine the series is awesome no matter which one comes along all are a read
This one hit home for me. Living with 2 forms of Lupus, you lose a lot of friends. Ironically, I am a baker also. And her attitude is sooo me! I love how you write stories that people can really connect with. And don't get me started on the sarcasm, or as I call it, my speech impairment. Another direct hit!
This book reaffirms how much I love Hank. I mean Janis is amazing she is someone I want as my bestie but Daddy Hank goodness I just love that man. Speaking of men, oh Corey you are a knight in blue armor. I love Janis and Corey and their story of them. Great job Cee. Now I need to reread Hank. lol
