Roadside Attraction: An small town, cinnamon roll hero, later in life, instalove romance

Rate this book
Life changes in the space of a heartbeat. One second, I’m cruising down the road, singing along to a classic rock station.

The next, my car is stuck on the side of the road, and I can’t get it to turn on. The breakdown forces me to become something I’ve never liked, a damsel in distress.

The modern-day version of a knight in shining armor rolls up in a fancy pickup truck. He flashes me a stunning smile, asks a question, and irritates me. My knee jerk reaction is to reveal a dark secret.

This book was SO BAD. At first, I considered just contacting the author about the number of typos and the terrible editing, rather than leaving a bad review, but the farther through the book I got and the more I realised it wasn’t just poor editing and typos but actually a badly thought out and appallingly written story, I realised that there was no point writing to the author (and I use the term “author” VERY loosely in this case).

So, here we go: the FMC breaks down by the roadside and a state trooper stops to help. She tells him she’s a serial killer, to which he gets turned on by her chunky thighs and wet hair and offers her a lift to the conference she is travelling to. By the time they get there, 2 hours later, she is treating him like a boyfriend she’s known for a long time, relying on him for emotional support. Yep. She makes her speech, calming herself down by thinking about him, then drags him to her room for wild monkey sex. As soon as they get to her room she has a complete character change and becomes shy and insecure about her body. He refuses to allow her to turn off the lights, because it’s not disrespecting her boundaries if it’s because he really wants to see her tits, right? Right?? So they spend 2 nights together then he drives her back to collect her car which is now repaired. He tells her he cannot bear to see her leave, because he’s falling for her. She leaps into his arms, obviously. The entire thing took place over literally two days and the only good thing about the whole book was that it was so short.

Add to this the near-constant misspellings, the repeated sentences, and the sentences that don’t even make any sense (during the sex scene at one point the book reads “he thumbs clit the knob” or something and it was so nonsensical it literally had me staring at the page saying WTF.
