This was a fun read! I enjoyed watching Elira grow and become the person who she was meant to be- getting stronger physically and mentally. At some points the story was a bit choppy, or maybe there were some moments that passed by a bit too quickly- as an example, Elira had to cross a wall into a different territory to retrieve something, which only lasted one chapter. But I guess it makes this book fast-paced which I guess was a good thing too! Depending on the type of reader you are.
The romance was slightly difficult to follow at the beginning. I didn’t see the full build up for me to be able to connect with their relationship. (Example, at one moment I understood that Elira felt betrayed by something the MMC had done, but because I wasn’t fully connected yet, I didn’t feel the same way.) BUT near the end I obviously am a goner for when men confess their love for their women so was rooting for when he was running to her aid and then telling her he loved her.
The world was so interesting and fun to get into! Depending on what moon you were born under, you would be given a certain gift. Thelka being the underworld was so fun and interesting to read about! Like a place for spirits to pass through. More and more!
All in all, this was a fun read and I’m glad I got to read it. I am definitely looking forward to the second book because I want to see how Elira deals with the ‘dark’ parts of her powers.
'As always, this aemortal kingdom demands bargains'.
If it's possible to be addicted to a book, consider me literally ADDICTED. Fayte and Blood is a mesmerising concoction of dark, witty and spicy romance, so much tension, and a fascinating new world that's unique and interesting. The world-building is great, without being too much, and I love the split between aemortals and mortals, and the differences between the kingdoms in Orynthys. I was obsessed with Tryx. I loved that Elira is a 30 year old woman and isn't the usual teenage fantasy protaginist. I thought Kaelion was an amazing character, so much deeper and more interesting/ flawed than usual MMCs. This is the start in a series but the ending is proper, so I'm not stuck on a cliffhanger, which sometimes happens. Elira - what a MFC - I love her. Her character arc is so thorough, and I just frickin LOVE it when she fights back and just says F You to the royals, hahaa.
It's got 2 spicy scenes, but only really 1 properly do-not-read-at-work scene, so it's the right mix of not just smut, but also actual plot. It's slow burn until it isn't, and there were points where i was literally dying - like just kiss!!
I have no words for the 'missing' bit on the last page, and literally the last 2 lines. No spoilers from me, but it's living rent free in my head until the next one comes out.
Gen Velzian’s Fayte and Blood is a beautifully written fantasy story that blends magic, romance, and action in a powerful way. Her writing is easy to follow but rich with feeling, balancing tense moments with humor and emotion. The story begins with Elira’s quiet life as a mortal postmistress at The Courier’s Keep, but soon escalates into a sweeping tale of magic, rebellion, and divine conflict. The romance between Elira and Prince Kaelion is heartfelt and slow-burning. It starts with tension and playful arguments but grows into deep love and trust. Their bond feels real, emotional, and full of passion, especially in the later chapters when they open up to each other and finally come together. The battle scenes are exciting and detailed, filled with magic, danger, and emotion. They’re not just action-packed, they also show the cost of war and how much Elira has grown. The author also builds a unique world with its own rules, postal magic, fayte, aemortals, and realms like Thekla, making the setting feel fresh and different. Overall, Fayte and Blood is a moving and powerful story about love, identity, and finding strength in dark times. The author’s storytelling is strong, emotional, and full of heart.
Ok honestly, I don’t know why but I read all 4 books, even when I became suspicious of the pure unadulterated use of em dashes and certain sentences that seemed out of place (one sentence mentions ‘wolf filled air’ during a steamy scene… I’m sorry but where tf were the wolves at or what was that meant to mean?). I ain’t no quitter so I persevered because I did like Elira in general even with the parallels to Feyre in the first book. But after finishing and then finding out all 4 books were published within months of each other in 2025 I just can’t help but think they’re written with heavy use of AI. I may be wrong and I accept that, however my senses are tingling with this one. At any one time you could see at least 2-3 em dashes on a page, where a simple comma would truly have sufficed.. my advice to the author would be to either not use AI or not write so suspiciously. Other than that, 2 stars for the build up romance cus I’m a sucker for that!
Honestly one of the hardest reads ever. I NEVER dnf a book but I nearly did with this one. The writing is awful and choppy. So is the story. I kind of like the lore behind the prince and his family but I just feel as though the story could have been executed so much better. This writing is so bad :(
I just couldn't get into this book. The style of writing grated on me and I'm afraid I got halfway through and started skimming so I just gave up on it. The reviews by others were amazing so maybe it's just me.
Anyone with kindle unlimited looking for a new series this was brilliant and absolutely underrated. Not too 🌶️ but complex love interests and great world building and the ending to book three was totally unexpected 😚🤌🏻
The writing was a bit choppy and sometimes I had to go back to make sure I hadn't skipped any pages. But the characters kept me coming back for more. I don't think I'll continue with this series though.
I really liked this story. It didn't have a lot of action until the end which is no big deal because the whole story was good and kept me interested. That is rare. I'm severely ADHD and dnf more books than I finish.
