This, and Kari Ragan’s “A Systematic Approach to the Voice”, are my favourite textbooks and voice teacher resources. Invaluable resources. In Williams’ book, I especially loved and appreciated the summaries at the end of every chapter which really helped me to remember what I read. I found Williams‘ writing accessible and yet very detailed. This is a textbook I can come back to for reference and deeper learning every single time I read it. The musicianship interludes by Alex Aitken were overwhelming, however, with careful re-reading and practice will prove very useful. They would really benefit from video demonstrations.
I love a textbook that, once read, can be quickly flipped open to remind myself of information and this definitely falls under that category. This book covers so much information. It’s shocking how small it appears! It was not a quick read from my perspective as there’s just so much information. I am very grateful for this book as a voice teacher and musician. Highly recommend.
