Basic story: Chastity was raised by a single mom and was told her dad died long ago. But it's after her mom dies that she finds out the real truth (that Chastity was the product of a rape) and needs to mourn her mother and discover her past -- if she has any family and how this all came to pass and why they were constantly moving. It's a really interesting story idea, but my issue is with the execution and quality of writing.
There are lots of flashbacks that aren't set up easily for the reader to follow; the writing for this is all over the place to the extent that I wasn't sure who was speaking; the dialogue was awful and not meaningful; I think this was intended to be third person POV, but it's not exactly clear which POV we're reading at times; and, grammar issues abound -- misplaced and/or unnecessary commas, wrong words, missing words.
By far, my biggest issue is that it is NOT truly a standalone as the synopsis suggests because Chastity never gets resolution with her whole past. We're left with an unread letter from the biological father, a flight to Venice (which is odd, since Florence is usually the city for artists), and a burgeoning romantic relationship with Timothy. And, there is the barest hint at a romance here... it's not very well plotted out and not very romantic at all so don't get your hopes up.
I understand that there's a sequel, in which case, you shouldn't say these can be standalone.

I loved the romance and mystery! I'm glad I had the opportunity to read this book because it did not disappoint. I would definitely recommend it and I can't wait to read more by this author!

I finally finished this book. It wasn't that I didn't want to read it much faster but my kids have a habit of running off with my stuff. This was incredible book that hit the mark on the self-doubt, insecurities we all face. It dealt with the raw emotions of traumatic experience and one mother who will protect her daughter at any cost. That daughter doesn't learn who her mother really was until after she's gone but comes to see that everything her mother was because she loved her daughter more than anything. Chastity finds herself while looking for who her mother really was. This book is a powerful story everyone should read.

Cliffhanger
I enjoyed this book a lot. My only regret was the fact that it had a cliffhanger. I really wish the authors would mention this one the first book. I have been drawn in to this book so I had to purchase the next one. Even with the cliffhanger and having to get another book, I still recommend this book.

I really loved this book! After the recent loss of my Mom I really connected with Chastity and thought a lot about my Mom and myself while I read their story...made the story that much more emotional for me! That being said the rest of the story line was very powerful and the characters so in depth and complicated!!
Just a wonderful and absolutely a must read!!

The plot in this book was good and I enjoyed it. I would like to have given it 4 stars but there was literally no editing in this book and the numerous typos and weird sentences that took me a couple of tries to figure out they had bad auto corrects in them was distracting.

Liked the story, if I hadn't had to be editing while I was reading. It was full of grammatical and spelling errors and was hard to read as a result.

Love this book. Has a lot of angst and drama, emotional hurt that was never healed.
Very interesting storyline and approach to the subject is brilliant.
One horrible experience of one person that change lives of many forever. Families,friends and strangers having big impact on the road to finding Kylie or Chastity. You be a judge after finishing book.
Not surprised that book is good for screenplay. I would like to know if and when it’s happening.
Now I’m ready for conclusion.

Plenty of drama with some twist and turns in the story that will keep you hooked until the end. Entertaining characters to follow along on this journey. Great interaction between the characters. Good read.

"Finding Kylie is an excellent first novel from freshman novelist, Kim McKay.
It is a great story told in an extremely innovative way; combining flashback, past narrative via a journal and first person narrative internal thought. These all combine to keep the story building in pace and intensity throughout the book. And the emotional turmoil of both the protagonist and her deceased mother (told through a diary) are deftly handled.
What I enjoyed most about this novel was how easy of a read it was, the characters were well thought through and the fact that the story is told through the aforementioned variety of techniques.
The end of the novel is left sufficiently open enough to expect a follow up. I hope there is one, as I personally look forward to this burgeoning talent bloom into a wonderfully accomplished novelist with a fantastically unique voice."

2 1/2 stars...
i normally love books like this but i felt it was really all over the place. some times i didnt even know what character was talking till half a chapter in.
some parts could of been written better and the situation could of been explained a loypt better.
i felt it just jumped from situation to situation too quickly and left a lot of things unsaid.
normally i love cliffhangers and cant wait to read the next book. but this just left me feeling glad that i finally finished the book.
