Sometimes, the hardest vow to keep is the one to never give up.

I’m Sebastian Boone, and my life is a lesson in how to destroy a marriage.

For twenty-two years, Lia was my partner, my anchor, the steady force behind our family. While I worked to save Boone Metals, she raised our children, ran our home, and supported me without question. I didn’t see how much I was taking for granted.

But there’s always a last straw. For Lia, it was her graduation—the night she realized I hadn’t even bothered to show up. After years of putting everyone else first, she was finally doing something for herself, earning a degree and starting a career. I dismissed it as a phase, a distraction.

So, she left me—walked away from our marriage, our home, and the life we built. And the worst part? Our children stood by her. They didn’t just help her pack; they told me I deserved this, that I lost her and their respect.

At first, I tell myself she just needs time. That she’ll come home. But as days pass, I see the truth. Lia isn’t waiting for me to fix things. She’s building a new life—one where she isn’t my wife first and herself second.

For the first time, I What if she’s better off without me? Because the truth is staring me in my I am not better without her.

(Spoilers below...)

Never thought I'd love a Maya Alden book, but here we are. 🤣

Tbf, I began this thinking I might end up really frustrated or annoyed with the MMC. I haven't read anything by this author yet, but from what I've seen in the reviews, I have a feeling I wouldn't like her characters at all. So, the bar is pretty low at this point. But I can't believe that I actually ended up liking this book. 🫣🤭

Both of them have contributed to the peril of their marriage. They were married for 22 years (both 44 at present time) and have two kids who are both in college. It was only them living at their house, but they rarely spend time together.

Since taking over his father's failing business three years ago, Seb had been so consumed by work that he'd started missing a lot of stuff with his family. He always said he'd make up for it but never actually did. And it's been his routine since then.

He also chooses peace with his mom and sister rather than siding with his wife. In his head, he thought it was way better than having them make a drama about everything. 🤦‍♀️

Lia, on the other hand, doesn't communicate and tends to keep everything bottled up. She acts as if everything was okay even though they're not. She doesn't put up a boundary when it comes to her in-laws. She even called herself a doormat for how she let them treat her awfully. 🤧

When she graduated and got a job offer, that's when she finally learnt to hope for something better for herself. She knew there was more to her than being a wife and a mom. And this change sort of scared Seb because, this time, his docile, understanding, patient, and peace-loving wife is finally speaking and doing something for herself.

Ngl, Seb made me want to punch something in the beginning. Because he keeps invalidating Lia's feelings, and he doesn't appreciate her achievements. He made her feel small at some point with his choice of words, although this was not intentional. He just couldn't understand her need to get a degree and job when he's perfectly capable of providing for her. He did a lot of realization, and while he was oblivious to many things, there's one thing he's definitely sure of, and that is his love for his wife. He may have failed to show it, but it was there and never went away.

Lia finally decided to prioritize her needs and learn more about herself. I did like that she asked for space, and while she felt guilty for leaving Seb, I'm proud that she didn't fold and still went ahead with her plan. She took the job, made new friends, and discovered things about herself. I love that she inspired other women who think it's too late to do what they want. I like that she finally held her ground with her in-laws and cut them off. And I love that she's found another purpose in life that makes her happy.

I love their kids too, Tristan and Ada. I love that they weren't afraid to call out their parents on things they didn't like, and they were both supportive and protective of them. There was never this issue of picking sides, as both of them want the best for Seb and Lia. Despite the brief separation, they still both find time to spend with them. And I guess that just shows what kind of parents the MCs were.

Anyway, Seb and Lia have things to work on themselves and as a couple, and we see them face those challenges as the story goes. They had realizations, they apologized, made adjustments, and put in the effort to make their marriage work this time around. They don't hold onto the past and are working together for a better future for them and for their family.

Overall, this was enjoyable for me, and it made me feel a roller coaster of emotions. But in the end, I was just happy that these two eventually figured out how to fix their marriage and be in love again.

Book info:
- Marriage in crisis
- Loss of a parent (on page)
- No cheating
- No real OM/OW
- With separation (2 mos)
- Open door spice
- HEA (vow renewal)

Notes:
- Separation. They were separated for two months as Lia asked for space. They're not divorced, just living in separate houses.
- OW. Wannabe. Seb's COO was interested in him, but he was oblivious to it. If Ada, his daughter, hadn't called him out for it by saying the OW was his mistress, he wouldn't have clued in to why the OW was acting strange around him. He finally caught up and put her in her place. Though I wish he had been firmer in doing that. Also, he made me want to punch him by saying he did think about fucking her because he's a red-blooded male. But thinking and acting were two different things, and he would never cross that line. Seeing as how his dad used to cheat on his mom all the time. Also, he didn't find her attractive the way he found his wife. Not sure if that should make me feel better.
- OM. When Lia moved out, her boss's/friend's brother became her neighbor. The guy was a flirt, and I think there had been two instances where they met and she flirted back with him. She kept saying that he's good-looking and she actually enjoys the attention. It made me want to pull her hair out tbh because why the heck would she do that? At this point, I was so confused about whether asking her to move out also meant entertaining other men. Then she considered that if the roles had been reversed and Seb had done the same thing, it would have been icky and sleazy. If Seb hadn't made it clear that there would be no entertaining other people, I think Lia would've still been flirting with Lev if she had the chance. 😑

I loved the redemption of the characters, the trueness of the story and the positive vibes that gives you in the end.
In a relationship it takes two to tango as they say and it's true. It isn't your typical story where the hero is at fault and he has to grovel in order to get the heroine back. Heroine owned her faults, the fact that she didn't shy from her responsibilities to the miscommunication (or the lack of communication) in their marriage makes it more real. Because I feel that many relationships in these days fail due to not communicating and not trying to fix things rather ending them.
I loved the dynamics of their family and how tight they were. And the kids were confidents to express their true feelings and tried to help their parents support them through this difficult journey of reconciliation. Because it IS difficult when you love someone and the trust you had in them broke. And then you try to fix this broken bond while you find yourself again.

This is perhaps the only Maya Alden book I haven’t hated! 👏🏻

I was prepared to give up on her but saw some promising reviews so I gave this a chance.

Even though there are of course some things I didn’t like, Sebastian was far better than her heroes have ever been. I think there was sufficient change and growth, and unlike her other books, I think this man actually loved his wife. 🤣

Was there annoying ow drama? Of course. It’s mostly unsubstantial, but I did get annoyed when he says there was never anything sexual about it, when in his mind he says of course he thought about having sex with her, he’s a man, but he would never do it. Soo you can’t really say that. It’s really a blip overall but it annoyed me.

Other than that, I did find it a little boring. I liked that Lia moved out and got a job and was independent, but I did feel it was a bit repetitive at times.

I liked how her children were always supportive, and that the marriage wasn’t always like this, but just needed a good looking at after the last few bad years.

So it wasn’t my favorite, but was by far the most tolerable MA book I’ve ever read!

this one was angsty for sure, I like this trope of marriage in crisis when no cheating is involved

do I think he redeemed himself? maybe, but because of the time jumps, I still think he didn't work enough for it.

what an awful family he had; that did not treat his wife and kids as they should! and he just ignored that because he didn't want drama? all I hear here is "me, me, me"

as entertaining as it was, I will not try another one in this series; that town's drama seems exhausting

Betrayal and Grovel

I admit it. At first I didn’t understand the trope of “betrayal and grovel”. Why read a story where a guy is a putz but then they get back together? Why not write a romance where she leaves the putz and rises like a phoenix and then finds a new man who is worthier?

But I ended up reading a couple of this type by authors I liked and I finally understood it.

Everyone, at least every woman I know, has been in a situation where the person they loved has done something to make them feel small or hurt, even devastated. And they just wish their pain was acknowledged and understood. And the person that they loved SO MUCH actually loved them back enough to truly change. *note below

And deep down, aren’t most romance novels wish fulfillment? And Maya Alden is the perfect fairy godmother for this type of wish!

In this novel, Sebastian has been concentrating so much on things outside of his family, especially his wife, that he has lost sight of them completely. Although he doesn’t cheat, even emotionally, there is a woman at work that he spends a majority of his waking hours with. He cancels and misses things and loses all credibility with his wife and children, assuming that he can make it to them “later”. He minimizes his wife, Lia’s, accomplishments. She has gone back to school for her MBA and graduated at the top of her class, even speaks at her graduation. But he doesn’t think it’s important enough to attend, which is the beginning of the end.

I would say that both the angst and the spice level in this book are lower than many others of the “betrayal and grovel” trope. But it is a master class of “marriage in crisis” and how to recover. The spice level grows as the communication does.

Sebastian, like many men, hasn’t spent a lot of time looking inward. And his initial emotions, again like many men, are only displayed in bursts of anger. Ms. Alden does a great job of reflecting his thought processes as he starts to realize where he’s gone wrong and what he can do to fix it - and not just a bandaid “Whatever I did, I’m sorry, here are flowers.” type of fixing either. He has to grow with Lia or he will get left behind. There is a lot of self reflection and growth from *both* main characters in this book.

However, it is not at all repetitive (like many in this genre can be) and they don’t live in a vacuum. The book is filled with excellent prose, interesting background characters, and descriptions of the setting that make you want to book a trip to Savannah (but not in summer)! The food and drink descriptions were so good that I found myself looking up some of them to try!

I read this book in one sitting and then started it again, to look through and highlight some of the passages I especially liked.

For higher spice and angst, some of the other Savannah’s Best might be your cuppa. But for a bittersweet book with a satisfying ending and moments that feel so real you get a lump in your throat, give this one a try!

*Please note, these men that reform are not truly evil - not mentally or emotionally abusive, even if the hurt they inflicted was grave. Most of the time they are TSTL (too stupid to live) and self absorbed so they don’t understand the hurt they inflict.

I did receive an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest (and it is honest) review.

This book is phenomenal in its subtle exploration of marriage, family expectation, societies expectation, gender roles and life after 40. It is going to take more than one read to grasp the complex layers Maya has woven here.

While the main focus of this book is a marriage in crisis it is so much more than that. It is book about woman and the role we play in society. That what we celebrate with when they are young, being a stay-at-home mum and raising their kids, we also hold against them later in life.
It is about the fact that is never too late to reinvent yourself, that life does not end at 40, 50, 60 or even 80. It is about taking a chance and living your best life. It is about the fact that is never too late to find your people, and, in this case, it is the wonderful woman at Savannah Lace. It is about recognising that even though one chapter of your life has ending it is always possible to start a new one.

At its heart though this a marriage in crisis and let’s be honest it didn’t get that way because of one person’s actions. Both Sebastian and Lia played a part in the overall breakdown of their marriage. You can see the trainwreck coming and it is heartbreaking to read. What I never doubted was the love that Sebastian and Lia felt for each other, even when Sebastian was being clueless. What is unique here is that both Sebastian and Lia get a gut punch, Lia a result of OWD, Sabastian’s, the realisation that his wife is moving out.

Their journey back to each other is tear jerking and his support of her doing what she needed to do even when he thought it may cost him his wife is breathtaking. The angst and betrayal in this book are subtle and quite just like Lia. It has crept up on them and Lia moving out and them going to counselling allows them to both see their actions for what they were. A truly wonderful book.

I am part of Maya Alden’s ARC team. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

My rating: 4 stars

What I liked: I liked how Ophelia(h) stood her ground and moved out to find herself. I loved how the kids stood up for their mom. Lastly, I liked how Sebastian(H) fired the ow.

What I didn’t like: I didn’t like that the father passed away. The way he told his son to be happy, was a sweet moment. I also wanted to read more at the end with his family and how they had to make changes.

***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: H and have been married for 22 years. For the last couple of years the H has been more worried about his family business than his own family. He also never really stood up for the h when it came to his family. When the H chooses to stay at work instead of being there for his wife when she graduates from college, h starts to realize she hasn’t been happy with her marriage. Later, when she sees that the H was at lunch with his Chief Operating Officer, she starts to think that maybe the H is having an affair. When H gets home, he knows he messed up by not being there for the h. h confronts the H, he tells her that he is just busy trying to save the family business and he is not having an affair. h believes him but is still not happy with the woman she had become. h gets a job and starts realizing she needs to put her first and when she hears the ow tell the H that she wants him to take her home, that was the wake up call she needed. h tells the H that she isn’t happy and moves out. The H realizes where he went wrong and starts to make changes. When H’s dad tells him to not let pride get in his way of his marriage and to be happy, the H decides to sell the business. H’s mom gets upset and had the father give it to the sister’s husband. H happy to walk away decides to be there for the h and to go back to college. At the end, the business in broken down and sold for hardly anything, his mom needs to learn to live by her means and the H and h get back together with a stronger relationship.

Final thoughts: This was a good marriage in trouble book.

Positives.
There are no intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine, the married couple.
The Hero is working alot and neglecting his wife and grown up children for the last 3 years due to work obligations that changed.
There is suspicion of other woman drama with a work colleague but this is all sorted out by 20% of the book when the Hero realises his mistakes.
It takes him some time to realise how bad they are but by 20% he is trying.
He does make massive changes and this is helped by then seeing a professional for marriage counselling.

Negatives.
It felt very dated.
The Savannah royalty and old money made it to me, feel very out of touch with today when people are struggling with money.
As an example
The mother in law is dependant on a business that is going bankrupt and it says she won't be able to buy a tennis bracelet worth thousands now she will only be able to buy one for 2000 or so.

I also felt there were long speeches of women in business and women's worth, tbh I was a bit bored and skimmed.

I just didn't feel the emotional pull and marriage in trouble troupe is my favourite genre maybe my expectation was too high.

No cheating. Hero shuts things down quickly.

There was a famous 'you will regret this' from the other woman but then nothing, unless I missed it.

Trigger Warning

This book contains themes of grief and the death of a parent, which may be distressing for some readers.
Loss of a loved one, grief, not main characters.

This one was gut-wrenching. The marriage in trouble trope is one Alden does very well. The fact that he missed her graduation and speech! 🤯

Did Seb redeem himself? Yes. I was glad Lia made it hard on him because he deserved to have to work for it.

He missed her graduation though, and that’s not something that can ever truly be made up for, imho. Loved the nasty OW drama!

Maya has written a novel that covers not only the marriage in trouble trope, but a middle aged woman finding her worth and taking opportunities to grow and evolve beyond what is the expected norm for Savannah's elite society.

Lia never one to confirm to expectations has excelled in obtaining her MBA as a later in life student. Sadly on the day of her graduation her husband Sebastian is missing in action choosing the continuation of his behaviour that begun three years ago when he took over the reigns of his families flailing business.

Lia is offered an internship following her graduation and this allows her, with the support of her two young adult children, to finally put herself first and to grasp an opportunity to be her own woman. An internship that is made possible by Savannah's younger set, strong woman encouraging other woman to excel and know their worth. Cameo appearances of some that have starred in Maya's other Savannah Best books.

At the same time of accepting the internship, Lia and Sebastian are at a crossroads in their relationship. Lia no longer willing to have things continue as they have been and Seb realising that he has left his relationship with his wife behind, the last priority in his long list of obligations and taking the easy way out pampering to his mama, father and sister, for years choosing to keep the peace with them at Lia's expense.

Through all these difficulties, it is clear to see the love Lia and Seb have for each other, but will that be enough to forge ahead with a future together. While not wanting to give spoilers, we see huge growth and development in Seb, actually showing Lia the changes he is personally making, not just "pretty words".

We have an OW, nothing encouraged by Seb but a delusional co-worker, coupled with a controlling father who through illness shows a softer side, an embittered mama, sister and sisters family thrown into the mix adding plenty of drama.

The book takes us on the journey of Lia and Seb finding their way back to each other, stronger and more committed, a story of true love enduring.

I enjoyed this addition to Maya's Savannah Best series, it is one I will read again.

Man this author never misses every single book I’ve read by her is amazing! This one was no different. I love a emotional marriage in trouble second chance story especially one where the MMC really does love his wife Sebastian and Lia’s story is so good they’re chemistry was amazing which made the angst and heartache feel so much more real and I loved the ow drama I enjoyed that Sebastian never was even attracted to Jane . Definitely a five star must read!

I recently had the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of "Best Kept Vows." This compelling novel centers around Sebastian and Lia, a couple whose twenty-two-year marriage faces significant challenges. As the story unfolds, we observe Sebastian struggling to balance the demands of his career with the need to maintain a healthy work-life balance. His overwhelming commitment to work begins to create a rift in his relationship, and a new woman gradually enters his professional life, leading to further complications.

The narrative explores the complexities of love, trust, and the choices that can either strengthen a relationship or put it to the ultimate test. Through their journey, the book highlights the vulnerabilities that can arise in long-term partnerships and the profound impact that external influences can have on the bonds we cherish.

I appreciated how the story illustrates how a couple can come back from the brink of collapse and rekindle their love and trust. If you love marriage in trouble books this one is for you!

Not for me

This was slow going.

I love Maya Alden books, because they hit me right in the feels usually. This one didn't. Perhaps I'm not at that point in life where this story resonates with me. Mostly I'm slight mad that the h put up with this treatment for 22 years before she grew a spine.

A majority of this story was grovel with minimal angst. I prefer angst, and my grovel satisfactory but not over done.

Decent Marriage in trouble, later in life h that finds herself and reinvents her future as a woman in business after being a SAH mum.
It was just boring.
There was just no umph or gut punch or anything like that, that we have come to expect from Maya.
It did however have the usual Maya traits, horrible mother in law, horrible sister in law and while the father in law was present, he disliked the h also until a medical episode made him see life differently.
Rinse and repeat.

Maya does it again with this marriage in trouble book.
I love the heartbreak I felt, especially in the restaurant scene. I love how Lia grew a backbone, but did it so gracefully. Sebastian was a big dummy, but his character growth was nicely done!

This blew all my expectations out of the water! Ophelia and Sebastian marriage is at risk, Ophelia is tired of being invisible and Sebastian is too busy to even noticed!

I really enjoyed how we see this relationship progress to become what it always should have been! Seeing not only Ophelia’s but also Sebastian to put o. The effort and work hard on want truly matters for them was especially perfect.

Maya has one again excel and I can’t wait for her next book!

Maya Alden has a real gift for capturing complicated emotions with honesty and warmth, and Best Kept Vows might be one of her most emotionally satisfying stories yet. It’s tender, layered, and quietly powerful, one of those reads that sticks with you long after the last page.

This story centers around a marriage in trouble, not because of scandal or betrayal, but because of silence, distance, and the slow unraveling that can happen when life gets in the way of love. The couple at the heart of the book feel incredibly real. They’re not perfect, and that’s what makes them so compelling. Watching them navigate their pain, resentment, and longing is heartbreaking at times, but also deeply hopeful.

What Alden does so well here is remind us that love doesn’t always look like fireworks, it can look like showing up, having the hard conversations, and choosing someone over and over again, even when it’s not easy. The emotional payoff is honest and well-earned, and the writing is as graceful as ever.

This story is a beautiful, grown-up love story about repair, resilience, and remembering why you made your promises in the first place. It’s heartfelt, intimate, and a must-read for anyone who believes in second chances.

I received this arc for an honest review. But I also pre-ordered this book because I love Maya Alden’s books. She really delivers a satisfying angst.
And I especially love the author’s Savannah’s Best series.

This is a marriage in trouble book. The couple is in their 40’s. I love when Maya Alden writes stories with a more mature couple.

I always enjoy Maya Alden’s writing and I tend to complain about the MMC not groveling enough… but in this case I actually liked the MMC more than the MFC.
Sebastian was a man driven by familial guilt.
He has taken over the struggling family business. He has a mother and sister who only care about image and money.
His father was a difficult man growing up and has recently had a stroke so the expectation is that Sebastian will come in and save the family business. To do that he must devote every waking hour to the floundering company.
For three years Sebastian has missed family events and neglected his wife and kids.
The book begins with Sebastian missing Ophelia/Lia’s convocation. After her children left for college Lia decided to get her MBA. At first Sebastian is confused by the direction Lia is taking.. and he wasn’t always the most supportive spouse …but I really thought he stepped up and realized how much he had let his family down. I felt Sebastian showed the most development and growth as a character.

Sebastian’s family had a huge bias against Savannah Lace and its owner Nina Davenport… And initially and unfortunately some of those views rubbed off on Sebastian.
Another thing I loved about the book is that their children Ada and Tristan were incredibly loyal to their mother and called their dad out for his neglect of Lia and the family.

So after graduating ….Lia gets a job with Savannah Lace . I always love revisiting the ladies from Savannah Lace.
There is some OW drama with Jane, Sebastian’s co-worker but Sebastian really didn’t see Jane in a romantic way.
So Lia has finally had enough and moves out.
Lia begins a “ friendship “ with Lev, Luna’s brother ( one of the women from Savannah Lace). At one point she even muses that if Sebastian were to form a friendship with another woman it would hurt her… but she doesn’t take the next step to limit her relationship with Lev.
This is where I start to like Sebastian more than Lia.
With Lia out of the house..clarity finally hits Sebastian. He understands what his job and his family have done to his relationship with Lia.

Lia and Sebastian begin counseling. And I truly believe Sebastian made the necessary life-altering decisions to be a better man and husband.
I believe Sebastian’s family got their karma in the end.
Another great read.
Thank you Maya Alden for another great read.

Looooved!

Oh Seb-astian (IYKYK)! He was such self centered, workaholic at first and really ruined things with his lovely wife Ophelia. I could understand the work ethic, but not the blatant disregard for his supposedly beloved spouses feelings. The graduation scene was rough and I felt for Lia so deeply. Maya Alden always knows how to pull out the feels. Stupid Sebastian brushed off her feelings time and time again and this was genuinely it. Couldn’t make time to support your wife but could go to a fancy lunch with your work wife? OOOOoooh No.

Hated Jane, of course. She flirted outright with Sebastian and he was putting out too many fires to address one more. But it finally comes to a head when he’s out for work drinks and his wife blatantly hears this OW proposition her husband. It’s the last in a long line of being treated poorly for Lia. She moves out and finds herself at 44, while Sebastian has to start working on fixing his wrongs and not just with Lia.

I particularly loved how devoted Sebastian was and how he knew he was treating his wife terribly, but at the same time he felt obligated to keep up the family company and the family name so society didn’t look down on him. He learns what’s truly important and has to face the damage he’s done at the same time. Fantastic southern romance at its finest.

I love a good marriage in trouble because the husband is an idiot story and Maya is one of the best at them. Her main characters behave like adults and in particular her female lead Lia took control of her life in a realistic and believable way.

There’s something about these Savannah’s best books that drag you in and leave you thinking long after. Maya weaves stories that break your heart and make you laugh in equal measure. Best Kept Vows has certainly done that.

If you want a book where the FMC quietly but firmly stands up for herself while the MMC finally twigs how stupid he’s been and then not only grovels but actually works to change, then this is the book for you.

I was kindly gifted an ARC to review but frankly I’d have been clicking buy now on release day if I hadn’t.

Another excellent read by Maya. I’m really enjoying the marriage in crisis books lately. It’s interesting to see what happens when someone has been married so long and the all the communication and effort break down. Sebastian has been tasked as the new CEO with trying to revive a dying family legacy; Boone Metals, but what happens when you lose yourself to your work and let your relationships go unattended? I feel like both Sebastian and Lia both played major parts in the breakdown of their marriage, but Sebastian really didn’t understand Lia until she left him. She was taken for granted but at the same time she let herself be. I was happy Sebastian finally realised what he was doing and fought to not only keep their marriage but make it a great one!

Maya Alden is fantastic as always and Best Kept Vows has definitely ended up on my list of favorites to be reread. I was expecting something like A Kiss from a Rose, but with supportive kids due to the characters being later in life and it being a marriage in crisis tale. That is really where the similarities end. First, while this was a standalone, it did have a lot of the characters and backdrops from the Savannah’s Best series. You don’t need to read them for this book, but it was like meeting up with old friends. Also, there wasn’t a definitive leaving moment like I expected. I was figuring he would come home late one day and she would have left him and I am so glad that was not the case. Not going there made this so much more emotional and relatable.

I think this is one of the few books where I didn’t start from the beginning hating the MMC. Sebastian made me want to cuff him upside the head at the beginning, but it changes quickly and I realized how much he loves Lia and how terrified he was of losing her. I won’t say that there is grovel, because that cheapens the journey to me. It took immense strength and love for him to realize that she needed a chance to find what she wants to be when she grows up and learn who she was as an individual after spending her life so wrapped up in him and her family. He had to trust that their love could endure and it would bring her back to him and that made me love him. I love that he did the work and went to marriage counseling and really listened to her.

Lia was such a strong and amazing character. It was beautiful to see her take back her life and find her voice. I loved seeing her find her place amongst the bad@$$ women of Savannah Lace. She absolutely belongs there and I loved the way she learned not to take any more crap from her Mother in Law. I know that Jane, the coworker, was technically the OW, but to me it was more like Dolly was. His mother was a significant wedge in their marriage and where much more of the drama stems from. Dolly was a piece of work and seeing Lia stand up to her and shut her down was everything!

Sebastian and Lia are now one of my favorite couples. I loved seeing the love they had for each other and that it was never about ending things for them. They really didn’t even consider it. Sebastian just wanted to show her that he chooses her and would continue to do that. I think that was better than any grand gesture and seeing them choose each other was beautiful and sweet and made this one of my favorites. Seeing Lia choose Sebastian, but also choose herself was so sweet! I really loved it and them. I will be looking forward to saying hello to them in future books in the series! I loved this so much!

Best Kept Vow is the sixth and latest book Savannah’s Best series. It’s a later in life , marriage in crisis, second chance romance. Lia and Sebastian have been married for 22 years and have two kids . Sebastian is busy and obsessed with saving his family failing business and in doing that he has lost what is more important. Lia feels unseen and not being Sebastian priority. And after putting everyone first and taking care of them she decides she would take care of herself first.

When I had first read the blurb I had thought this might be similar to Kiss from a Rose but Sebastian was negligent but he was a good person and had not realized how his actions were hurting his wife and the moment he realizes he feels remorseful and was patient with Lia . He was willing to go to any end to win his wife back . The plot was captivating and I loved the character and Sebastian and Lia’s journey. The added bonus was meeting all the other characters we have come to know and love from Savannah Lace . I literally binge read this book it was so so good.

The story is though provoking , it shed light upon how important is work life balance and how important communication is between couples and we should never taken love and affection for granted. It doesn’t matter how long the couple has been together they have to keep the spark alive. And you have to care for people but sometimes if you don’t put yourself first and take care of yourself and respect yourself than no one would do as well . This is so much more than a marriage in crisis story. It was thought provoking and realistic depiction of how we all focus and prioritize on materialistic things and not prioritize our relationship which is more important and by the we realize sometimes it’s late to salvage. I love how beautifully Maya weaves pearls of wisdom and thought provoking life lessons in her stories so effortlessly.

Highly recommend this book . This book is for sure going in my reread list and I would be for sure reading it again. If I could I would give this masterpiece more than five stars ⭐️

I am obsessed with marriage-in-crisis books, so when Maya Alden announced when ARCs would be open, I 100% set an alarm and then when the time came I was refreshing the page every few seconds so I wouldn’t miss it 🥳

I really enjoyed this book! This was a bit more tame on the crisis (not to minimize the issues), theirs was that although he loved his wife and kids, he was taking them for granted. His (Sebastian) family would always talk down on his wife (Lia), and he ask her to just ignore it. He then took over his family’s company and become a workaholic, spending years neglecting his wife. Lia then graduates with her MBA, and guess who’s not at her graduation? Yup, Sebastian! BUT not to worry, he IS at a fancy restaurant having a work lunch with his COO (the OW). There is no cheating here, but he is definitely not being a great husband/partner/father. He’s lost sight of things that truly mattered the most him.

Lia has finally had enough. She’s not happy with the late nights, the missed events, the quiet house, the neglect, the rude in-laws, not being a priority, and just the overall doormat role she’s taken on in her marriage. So, she ends up moving out with the idea that they both need to reevaluate themselves and figure out what they really want. Lia is also rejoining the workforce after having been a SAHM for so long. That’s new and exciting for her, and in the beginning a bit perplexing to Sebastian. It was amazing to see both of their journeys, both professional and personal.

I do feel like Sebastian put in the work to earn that second chance with his wife, and I had zero issues with them reconciling 🥰 I didn’t get any crazy doormat or BBS vibes from Lia, so double yay!

Best Kept Vows introduces us to Sebastian and Ophelia/Lia. They have been married twenty-two years, two kids at college, and empty nesters.

Sebastian’s father suffers a stroke, and Sebastian must take over the family business. What his dad doesn’t disclose is that the business is a sinking ship with debts and mortgages. Sebastian abandons his family for three years for the sake of his father’s legacy as he tries to save the dying company.

Since her husband is always working and her kids are now raised, Lia decided to go back to college and earn her MBA. Lia graduated top of her class, which Sebastian misses in favor of a quarterly finance meeting. After her inspiring graduation speech Lia is presented with an opportunity that will allow her to redefine herself and gain her independence.

Sebastian is left to discover his life without Lia. Sebastian realized that he allowed his family to emotionally and verbally abuse his wife for years. Why? All for the sake of peace, so he wouldn’t have to deal with drama from his pretentious mother. Don’t worry, mama gets her comeuppance!

With the help of therapy, their children, and the fantastic group of ladies at Savannah Lace, Sebastian and Lia find their way back to each other.

Personal Note: From the beginning, I felt like this was my story, like someone close to me had given Maya the cliff notes version of my life and this was my biography. For me, it was almost like Maya was telling me my future and the next steps I needed to take. I’ve never connected with a book on this level before.

Favorite Quotes:
“I spent years being a doormat, and now that I’m finally standing up for myself, he doesn’t know what to do with it.”

“By constantly making excuses for Sebastian, what was I teaching my daughter? And that’s when I asked myself a question: if Ada was married to a man like Sebastian, what advice would I give her?”

“I stood there a moment longer, painfully aware that I’d been putting out fires here at the factory, all while my home was burning to the ground.”

I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this ARC review.
