I finished reading two wonderful books today and I thought, ok now a bit of pointless smut in between. And since this book has been in my stream a lot now ... it sounded perfect for my mood. Stepbrothers and more sex than plot, sign me up.
So not wanting to continue reading this book has nothing to do with its content but with its execution.
I know books are fantasy and can be far removed from reality. So when I say that this is simply unrealistic, I don't mean the invention of the story, but the believability of the characters.
The beginning is told solely from the point of view of the older, supposedly straight brother Rome, who admires his stepbrother and wants to do everything for him and cannot live without him. After a game of truth or dare (yawn, can't you think of anything better?) and a kiss between the two, he begins to doubt himself and his sexuality and is embarrassed that he is lusting after his brother. OK, I can still go along with that, even if I was rather annoyed at that point.
And then sex. Was the scene hot? yes absolutely, it has the kind of smut I like, definitely. BUT, this is the first time between the two of them and Rome calls Sebastian his whore and slut all the time and lets the Dom hang out even though he was full of doubts just before. AND at one point it's mentioned that sex has never meant much to him, but now all of a sudden he's this super filthy Dom?
And of course they immediately go at it like rabbits, I don't want to spoil too much, but no, absolutely unrealistic on Sebastian's part.
And even though I've developed a kind of curiosity and the little bit I've seen of Sebastian sounds really interesting, I just don't want to read any more of it.
No rating. The book is sure to find fans. And I'll refrain from writing reviews of the other books now, I have to get the negative stuff out of my head first.

Rome is 21. Sebastian is 18/19. They've been stepbrothers since they were 17 and 15 respectively. Ever since they met they have been very close, they have lived in each other's pockets and been best friends and brotherly with each other. It's actually really weird that within weeks of meeting they were calling each other little brother and big brother in a non sarcastic way and really embracing their brother relationship. Teenagers don't do that s***. Teenagers in my experience don't accept new siblings like this, don't get along instantly. There's angst and crankiness. There isn't this instant bond of cheesiness like Sebastian and Rome had.
The book is told with multiple flashes back and forth in time from when they first met until the present when they are at the same college after a two-year separation and living together as a roommates. At a party they are dared to kiss. Sebastian has always been out as gay. Rome has thought he was straight though he has wondered if he's on the asexual / demisexual spectrum because he hasn't felt much for the women he's been with. Rome goes into a spiraling sexuality crisis when he realizes he liked the kiss and is really turned on by Sebastian. He ignores him for weeks and then they had a confrontation that ends in a hookup. They immediately dive into an intensely kinky sexual relationship, which honestly is a little unbelievable given how lackluster Rome's sex life has been before now and given Sebastian was technically a virgin who'd only done hand and mouth stuff before. They just dove right into Fifty shades of Gray s***
I didn't love this book. And first of all, I have to say I do have a little bit of a bias here, I will read kink but I don't seek it out or enjoy kink for the sake of it. I really need sensuality and emotion to enjoy a book, I don't like erotica unless there is a really strong relationship and the explicit and kinky sex is just an extension of that. I don't kink shame though! I have no problem with kinks existing and people expressing their sexuality through that. I could just take it or leave it, it's not something that makes me swoon.
But even saying that, my dislike for this book wasn't just because it wasn't my personal cup of tea. This book made me uncomfortable. And it was just jarring and unrealistic.
It made me uncomfortable with the fetishization of the brotherly relationship especially with all the flashbacks to them aged 15 and 17. They were both pretty close in age so it wasn't a power imbalance between the two of them. This is going to sound harsh and I'm going to drop the P word, and I'm not saying the author had intent to do this, but this is how it came off to me. The problem was that the author was coming off as fetishizing infantilized brothers, basically whoring out innocent childish moments, making it sound like the boys could have been even younger than they were, and putting them in a sexual context / juxtaposition. Which made me think this book would appeal to pedophiles. Which grossed me the f*** out and I almost dnfed as a moral objection, but the book is so short I figured I might as well finish it and then I could at least give it a detailed review airing my concerns. In some of the flashbacks, the boys are behaving like 10 year olds. It's almost fetishizing pedophilia for them to show a sex scene in the present and then flip to the past and show these like babying moments of pseudo brotherly intimacy, and then flip to another sex scene in the present. There's not a lot of plot so the juxtaposition of these scenes is not significant in a meaningful way other than fetishization and it disturbed me.
It was jarring and unrealistic as well because like I said before, Sebastian was basically a virgin and Rome had a really lackluster sex life before this. They're both super young. And they just dived into a Fifty shades of Grey kind of relationship. It wasn't natural how they explored their sexualities via the kinks. It was more like the author had a grocery list of kinks that she wanted to hit and she just ran through them check checking them off. There wasn't really any additional growth of their relationship once they started having sex. It was like all the emotional connection had happened before they had sex and all that happened after they had sex was more sex. There was no real falling in love that we saw, no building of emotional connection, no deepening of feelings. The flashbacks were over used and just made me feel uncomfortable. Throughout the entire book even after they start having sex, they always call each other big brother and little brother.
I liked the premise of the book. The close stepbrothers that care about each other having a sexual awakening through a dare and the relationship turning sexual. I just wish the book hadn't fetishized things in such an uncomfortable way and just been a grocery list of kinks.
A notable moment:
"“I can’t stop thinking about it,” I tell him, my heart thrashing now. “I can’t stop thinking about you, little brother. I…fuck, I can’t be near you without wanting you. Wanting more.” My chest is so constricted I can barely breathe as he stands there, eyes wide, not saying anything. I shake my head. “I’m so sor—” I’m cut off by his mouth on mine. Fuck. He grips my face in his small hands as he kisses me fiercely and I grunt, my own eyes as wide as saucers as he jumps up, wrapping his legs around my waist."

Stepbrother Mine is a steamy story between stepbrothers Sebastian and Rome. I enjoyed how this story did not waste any precious time for these two to admit their feelings for one another. They both care for one another and I enjoyed seeing their feelings simmering beneath the surface.
They both have their hesitations, but once they reveal their feelings for one another this story skyrockets into amazingly steamy territory. Both Sebastian and Rome have to navigate their changing relationship dynamics and I enjoyed seeing the relationship grow and develop into something more substantial.
Overall this is a fun story and I love seeing this author expand from their usual style and write something different from their usual. Such an entertaining story that I enjoyed from start to finish.

2.25 Stars Rounded Down

My first and potentially last read of this author, unfortunately 😬
Part of me feels bad to give this such a low rating, because I was aware what it was going into it. I knew it was supposed to have no plot and be straight up erotica.
But there were several problems with how that was executed.
Does an erotica novel need to be 175 pages? Almost 200 pages of mostly sex? No. If it had legitimate plot to add to a lot of sex, then I think it would be fine. But it didn't, so it was just almost 200 pages of sex. And that got to be way too much.
I definitely skimmed here and there. I just couldn't be bothered with a lot of this. Sometimes I went back to what I'd skimmed and read it, and then realized I hadn't really missed anything by skimming/skipping.
But also, at the same time, it kind of did try to have a plot? Which muddies the waters for me, because while I appreciated the flashbacks here and there to give us an idea of their relationship, the flashbacks got to be too much, and in random places, short or long, and soon enough I didn't care about those either. I was feeling...why is this giving me plot in the middle of all this sex?
Not a ton, but giving more to these two than just sex, giving them a meaningful relationship, showing them doing stuff outside of sex in the flashbacks, is plot. It's a break from the sex and actually adds romance to this, but...that romance wasn't utilized in the present day sex fest these two had.
Instead in the present it's basically all sex with little snippets here or there of them with their friends or at work or Rome getting super jealous of a random nerd tutoring Sebastian, etc.
It led to a lack of chemistry for me. First, there's no development before they start having sex, so I wasn't invested in them - and the sex, unfortunately, wasn't done well enough for me to be so into the sex that I didn't care at the lack of romance/character development. - and then it tries to give them a bit of development in all these flashbacks, but I still didn't feel like an amazing connection in present day.
Maybe because I was already a bit checked out by the time we got more and more flashbacks of these two. Or maybe because in present we barely got anything resembling romance. Barely any, honestly. Maybe a scene or two of Rome taking care of Sebastian when he's sick, I guess. But even then they're mostly just bummed they couldn't have sex the days that Sebastian was sick more than anything and were like...going through sex-with-each-other withdrawals practically.
So my big problem with that is this claims to mainly be erotica with no plot, but it still tries to sneak in some romance and plot.
So am I to take this as an erotica or a book with plot? Which one? It just ended up making me feel a little confused.
Also, again, what's the point of the stepbrother angle? They could have easily been besties who go to the same college, who are overly affectionate and then a kiss changes it all, and nothing about this would have changed. Their dynamic wouldn't have changed at all.
And I know this was trying to be easy and light, but again, just make them best friends. There was literally no difference. No one gave a shit about them being stepbrothers. In fact their friends even bet on them being together. Their parents did not give a shit.
There's no point in the stepbrother trope being used if no one gives a shit, if it's not even the slightest bit taboo.
Like...these two reacted more negatively towards being together than anyone else, and they barely put up a fight! Well, it was mostly Rome, tbh. But they both kept it a secret for months and for what, apparently 🤷♀️
I gave this a boost of .25 stars because it included cock warming, which I love. BUT, it didn't use it enough, so that's all the boost I gave it. I was like "yes! Cock warming!" and then we get like...one or two legit scenes with it. I was bummed. I probably could have raised this to 3 stars, no joke, if we'd had some really good use of cock warming in this. But *sigh* there wasn't.
Also I don't know why, but it felt a tad off that Rome was so super jealous and possessive of the nerd guy who was tutoring Sebastian that he went all cave man on Sebastian and fucked him in the stacks not far from the guy, and then when they were done he threatens the guy if he ever touches Sebastian again, but then at the end he's cool with others watching him and Sebastian have sex? The over possessiveness and then the less over possessiveness at the end didn't quite compute for me. Like to me, someone that possessive wouldn't want anyone to see his man? Does that make sense?
If he was less possessive, it would make more sense. A "you can look but can't touch" thing. But he literally lost it at the tutor just touching Sebastian's arm and fucked him right there in the library to like...mark what's his or whatever. Just felt a little off to me.
Which, I don't mind if a couple is into voyeurism, but the attitudes didn't line up for me, so that was my main problem with that.
So, while the inclusion of the flashbacks was nice, and gave more to these two than if they hadn't been there, and the cock warming was nice for a scene or two, and a sex scene here or there was done well enough that I felt something while reading, hence my 2.25 stars, there was just too much I had a problem with to give it anything more.
Was this a stepbrother romance? No but kinda. Was this erotica? No but kinda. Did this have plot? No but kinda. Were they super possessive of each other? No but kinda.
It all just didn't quite add up. And it was way too long for an erotica book. But also it tried to have some plot which just muddied the waters. This could have been....80 to 100 pages, maybe less, even. Take out the stepbrother trope. And it wouldn't have been half bad, maybe.
Although the lack of chemistry and well written sex scenes would have still lowered my rating. But I could have maybe given it a 3 star rating instead, for the few fun and somewhat hot sex scenes we did get. And for the fun possessive scenes we did get.
Take away a lot of context and trying to add plot and this would have been alright.
As it is, I just couldn't get into this. An erotica book shouldn't have taken me 2 days to read, truly.
Ah, well. You win some, you lose some.
I honestly don't know if I'll give this author a chance in the future, but this book really might not have been the best to try out this new-to-me author with.

Also I don't know why, but it felt a tad off that Rome was so super jealous and possessive of the nerd guy who was tutoring Sebastian that he went all cave man on Sebastian and fucked him in the stacks not far from the guy, and then when they were done he threatens the guy if he ever touches Sebastian again, but then at the end he's cool with others watching him and Sebastian have sex? The over possessiveness and then the less over possessiveness at the end didn't quite compute for me. Like to me, someone that possessive wouldn't want anyone to see his man? Does that make sense?
If he was less possessive, it would make more sense. A "you can look but can't touch" thing. But he literally lost it at the tutor just touching Sebastian's arm and fucked him right there in the library to like...mark what's his or whatever. Just felt a little off to me.
Which, I don't mind if a couple is into voyeurism, but the attitudes didn't line up for me, so that was my main problem with that.
So, while the inclusion of the flashbacks was nice, and gave more to these two than if they hadn't been there, and the cock warming was nice for a scene or two, and a sex scene here or there was done well enough that I felt something while reading, hence my 2.25 stars, there was just too much I had a problem with to give it anything more.
Was this a stepbrother romance? No but kinda. Was this erotica? No but kinda. Did this have plot? No but kinda. Were they super possessive of each other? No but kinda.
It all just didn't quite add up. And it was way too long for an erotica book. But also it tried to have some plot which just muddied the waters. This could have been....80 to 100 pages, maybe less, even. Take out the stepbrother trope. And it wouldn't have been half bad, maybe.
Although the lack of chemistry and well written sex scenes would have still lowered my rating. But I could have maybe given it a 3 star rating instead, for the few fun and somewhat hot sex scenes we did get. And for the fun possessive scenes we did get.
Take away a lot of context and trying to add plot and this would have been alright.
As it is, I just couldn't get into this. An erotica book shouldn't have taken me 2 days to read, truly.
Ah, well. You win some, you lose some.
I honestly don't know if I'll give this author a chance in the future, but this book really might not have been the best to try out this new-to-me author with.

This is a new author for me. The story, what there is of it, is mostly sex. The writing was good and the sex was pretty hot. I love a good Dom/Sub relationship. Rome certainly warmed up to his dominant side in a hurry. I’ll certainly try something else by Felicity Snow.

Stepbrother Mine is the first book I've read from Felicity Snow, and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed this book. The spice was on point with a load of kinks, and I just adored Rome and Sebastian! This book is low angst, high steam, and minimal plot.

I love the grumpy/sunshine pairing in this book. Sebastian is gay and a femboy. Rome is broody and considers himself straight, until a game of Truth or Dare makes him reconsider. Rome (temporarily) struggles with his newfound attraction to his stepbrother, but Sebastian is immediately on board with their pairing. That said, both MCs maintain a secret relationship from their friends and family for a while.
This book is HIGH steam. There is some plot, but there is a LOT of spice in the book. Rome’s possessiveness is *chef’s kiss* and his panty kink is alluring. There is a prevalent D/s dynamic in this book. It works for Rome and Sebastian. They have stellar chemistry. I appreciate how they grow as a couple in this book. They take on new physical experiences together and figure out what they like best. I liked when their relationship took an emotional turn. This book has an interesting ending (yes it’s an HEA) and the epilogue is super sweet.
I like the support system that the MCs have in this book. Mel, Nate, and Tyler are solid friends. Their parents are supportive as well. (I was happy that Rome and his dad got to have their chat). Codependency never fails to make me swoon, so you better believe I was giddy over all the snuggling, lap sitting, and forehead kisses. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that cockwarming factored into that when they became a couple too!

I thought it was a fun novella, and really demonstrates a range of talent for Felicity. I don’t usually read a lot of stepbrother romance as it’s not a go-to trope for me, but I thought the high steam, low angst content in this story worked perfectly along with the stepbrother trope.
I really enjoyed Rome and Sebastian’s characters, and I thought their dynamic was so lovely. This was just a nice, straightforward read and true to Felicity’s promise of low angst. The heat in this book was fantastic! Rome and Sebastian explore lots of different kink, but I appreciate that they did it in such a safe manner. There was an emphasis on aftercare, which is so important. I particularly enjoyed them exploring their kink for exhibitionism together!
If you’re looking for something fun, steamy, and low angst Felicity Snow has got you covered with this one. And as per usual, she nailed the epilogue and it was just adorable so you have that to look forward to!

I know I'm being generous with my stars but I came to read porn and I got it so who am I to complain? This was not taboo stepbrothers at all. This was stepbrothers for the sake of calling each other "brother" in a way that feels taboo for the sexy vibes. No plot. Just lots of kink exploration and they were all kinks I enjoy so hooray, good times. There could have been more conversation surrounding those kinks but this was still very SSC BDSM and it was on the lighter side.
