The legacy of her blood has always come with a price.

"Please just let me finish my final year of high school, preferably drama-free. And alive?"

Sady Smith sends her plea up to the sky, already knowing it won’t be answered. Another year, another town, another fresh start. Her family does what it always does—packs up, moves on. Every home is temporary. Every friendship a risk. The rules are Don’t get attached. Don’t let anyone in. Start over.

This year should be no different. Only… it is.

First, there’s Greyson Black—her history teacher, of all people—who stirs up something she’s never felt before. Feelings she definitely shouldn’t be having. Before she can even start to unpack that little existential crisis, along comes Kelsey—a human wrecking ball of friendship, completely uninterested in the concept of boundaries. One day, she’s just a girl at the lunch table. The next, she’s there to stay. Effortless. Unshakable. Normal.

Which means it’s doomed.

Because mythical creatures? Yeah, they’re real. Her parents included. And Sady? She’s changing—fast. Power she can’t understand, or control. No rulebook to follow. And when her new friend, her only friend, is attacked—the storm inside her finally unleashes.

And when the dust settles—it’s time to confront the demons of her bloodline and choose her own legacy.

And then? Darkness takes her.

Melanie Frome is a Scottish author who writes fiction that asks what if?—layering magic, myth, and mayhem over the real world we think we know.
After a lifetime abroad and a lot of detours, she now calls Edinburgh home—the city of ghosts, folklore, and cobbled whispers. When not wrangling characters, she’s chasing meaning, mochas, guiding movement on the mats—and the next spark of chaos that might just turn into a story.

5☆
I rarely give 5☆ reviews, but Everlasting grabbed me from the very first page. I began to resent feeding my family, household chores and anything else that took me away from Sady.

I received an advance review copy (ARC) for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my opinions of this novel. Thank you to the author, publisher and Goodreads for this opportunity.

Everlasting is full of intrigue and answers are given in a breadcrumb fashion, but that is what kept me turning the pages. There were so many times I thought that I had the origins of Sady's parents figured out only to learn how wrong I was! The relationship between Sady and her Dad is sweet and pure, while her relationship with her Mother is taught and like nitroglycerin.

Everlasting's characters are layered with mystery and magic that is slowly revealed in ways that left me awed and wanting more. I can not wait for Everfallen, book two of the series to come out in September 2025. I want to know more about Greyson Black, Sady's teacher and hard crush. There are vibes that he is much more! Who is the female entity that appears as a moss green and gold mist? What role will the vampire boy from New Orleans play in the story? And, who belongs to the sapphire and silver mist that occasionally brushes up against Sady? So many questions that September can not come too soon.

Thank you Goodreads for this free copy.

I think this book has potential but there needs to be more information. I get that it's kinda mysterious and the reader is learning as it goes, but it took until about halfway through before anyone even mentioned angels! I knew Sady's parents were angels but explaining the lore for this story early on would have been nice.

For example how do they communicate telepathically? What are Sady's powers? Who are they running from? I didn't care for their definition of vampires. Also calling her Sady Doll or Sady Baby ever single time was weird!

Greyson Black is an interesting character. I want to know more about him. I'm disappointed we didn't get more on him. However my biggest gripe is the insta lust over a teacher! Ew just ew. Can we not do that please? I'm sure he's another angel or some magical being, but I don't like student/teacher relationships. Oh and there is no way Sady would tell her parents she had a crush.

I know it sounds like I didn't like the book, but I did. There are just some personal problems I had. I look forward to more. Oh and please let her cuss and say Hell.

I really liked this book! The story kept me engaged, but 450 pages felt a bit excessive—especially with such an extreme cliffhanger. Honestly, it could’ve been shortened to make room for a more satisfying ending. Still, I’m definitely looking forward to the next one!

This is a fabulous book! I couldn't put it down. Just by reading it I can visualize it all happening and I can hear that giggle-snort too. I can't wait for the second part, EverFallen so 7 can find out what happens.
I have read Melanie's book Lady of Fire which I also enjoyed. The style of writing is different in each book as appropriate for the storyline and the time and place setting in the story. Melanie is so talented and I look forward to read more of her work.
