If we are honest, the phrase on earth as it is in heaven seems more like a pipedream than a powerful prayer. In fact, when we think of heaven, we don't even know what to hope for or don't see how it impacts our day-to-day life. But what if the reality of heaven has the power to change everything in the here and now? What if Heaven is already coming near to change your today?
In this definitive book on Heaven, trusted Bible teacher and Pastor, Dr. David Jeremiah reveals how this Kingdom is already at hand. In these thirty-one fascinating chapters listeners will discover that Heaven is more than a supernatural realm that awaits, it is already invading the darkness, already reclaiming lost souls, and already forging eternity. Discover how good your full experience of Heaven will be one day, but even more how it already has the power to shape your today.
See with fresh eyes, how Heaven has come near, and the forces of darkness do not stand a chance.
Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
I appreciate the pastoral heart here. Sincerely. Heaven is an ontological reality. Christ is a living redeemer. There is very good reason to hope. People need to know all that.
But it’s a bit scary how theologically sloppy this is. What Jeremiah takes as literal or symbolic in some of Scripture’s apocalyptic passages has no apparent rhyme or reason other than maybe his own personal sentiment. And his churchly interlocutors are almost exclusively recent American evangelicals, which makes, I think, for some shallow reflection.
I also just do not appreciate premillennial dispensationalism as a system of Christian eschatology, although I understand how its development over the 19th-20th centuries could seem like a comfort to a rapidly changing/industrializing world. And so this modern system informs a lot of his views on death, salvation, resurrection, etc., that I think make him too certain on mysteries and too mysterious on certainties.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that this is ghost-written. I don’t believe a man in his mid-80’s knows anything about Kumail Nanjiani’s workout regiment or YouTube channels about art restoration. But maybe I’m wrong!
The spiritual realm is notoriously veiled in shadow and only seen through a glass darkly. It feels impossible to write about well. Jeremiah is good about keeping the God-Man Jesus at the crux of this mystery, which is reason enough to rejoice.
But instead of really pressing into Scripture or looking to the theological treasuries of the past, Jeremiah leans into folksy cliché when the going gets tough. And ultimately, I don’t think that’s very reassuring in a book that’s aimed at reassuring us!
In the end, I think a voice like Tom Wright’s (which is deeply pastoral, theologically accessible, and yet still scholarly) is vastly preferable on the subject.
Thank you to NetGalley and David Jeremiah for a copy of this book. This book brought me much hope and answered so many important questions about Heaven! If you have questions about Heaven, I encourage you to read The Promise of Heaven. David Jeremiah provided a spiritual analysis of so many poignant questions. He answered questions like "Will there be animals in Heaven?" or "What happens to a believer if they commit suicide?" These answers gave me assurance and hope in God's love for us as His children.
Throughout this nonfiction book, Dr. Jeremiah shows that God provides for us and has a beautiful future awaiting us in Heaven. His writing eased the burdens of my heart by using Scripture and thoughtful reflection on each issue. My review is shorter because I was touched by this book, and if you need encouragement or answers about Heaven, I highly recommend The Promise of Heaven.

The Promise of Heaven shines a light on the importance of setting our minds on things above, rather than things of the earth.
I’ve enjoyed Dr. David Jeremiah’s sermons and books for decades, so I was eager to read his latest book on getting excited about our eternal home. I was not disappointed. Divided into 5 sections showcasing Heaven and God’s promises from the Bible. An inspiring and absorbing read.
I especially enjoyed the Answers About Heaven section in which questions, such as “What will it be like?” and “Will there be animals in heaven?” are biblically answered. I also appreciate how the book reveals that even though we prepare for our lives in Heaven, we are also responsible for how we live our lives right now.
First Line (Introduction): Just as I started working on this book, I read that entertainer Dolly Parton’s husband had died. Genre: Christian Spiritual Growth, Nonfiction Author: David Jeremiah Page Count: 240

The Promise of Heaven: 31 Reasons to Get Excited About Your Eternal Home by one of my favorite Christian authors, David Jeremiah, seeks to answer many of the frequently asked questions about Heaven and the afterlife. David Jeremiah is known for providing biblically based information in an interesting and engaging manner by interweaving true stories and this book is no exception. In fact, not only did I learn a lot about my eternal home, this hope filled book left me longing to be there. The book is organized into five sections and covers many pertinent topics. If you’re looking to learn more about where you’ll spend eternity as a Christian and how to get there, I highly recommend this book.

The Promise of Heaven by Dr. David Jeremiah is an incredibly encouraging book. If you are going through a difficult time, Dr. Jeremiah’s use of Scripture to paint us a detailed picture of what we can expect in Heaven brought so much joy to my evening reading time! Even though I’m familiar with most of the Scripture used in this book, it was such a pleasure to read through Dr. Jeremiah’s study of Heaven and put all the pieces that have been revealed together into a glorious picture of what we have to look forward to in the next life!
I got tears in my eyes in the chapters that emphasized the most important aspect of Heaven: dwelling with Jesus for all eternity. The author did an excellent job of pointing to the most astounding thing waiting for us, which is living in the presence of Jesus without sin. I can’t wait until nothing separates me from my Lord and Savior, and this book encouraged me to keep my eyes focused on that goal.
If you are going through a difficult time or if you are struggling with all the dark events we see in this world, pick up this book and have your eyes lifted to Heaven! I think it would even be a great gift for a friend who isn’t a believer because it will not only entice them with what Heaven is like, but it will direct them to salvation in Jesus as the way to get there.
There are two sections in the back of the book that were great additions. One is like a frequently asked questions section, and the other is how to apply our knowledge of Heaven to our daily walk with Christ. In other words, how do we live out a heavenly mindset?
Everything in these chapters is based on Scripture. Even when discussing things (i.e.-are animals in Heaven?) that are not fully revealed, Scripture is used to lay out evidence. I appreciated that the Scripture was right in the text as you read. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And while it is structured so you can read one chapter a day, I often read WAY more than that.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
In the midst of life’s stressors: violence, corruption, and calamity, many of us have lost our peace. That’s why The Promise of Heaven by trusted Bible teacher, Dr. David Jeremiah is such a timely read.
If you can’t find a space of peace…Heaven, the place where every believer will spend eternity with God is the perfect place to fix your gaze. We can’t control the steady decline of our world, but we can resist worry and place our complete trust in Christ, who promised in John 14:3 to prepare a place for us.
Dr. Jeremiah’s newest release gives 31 reasons to get excited about our Forever Heavenly Home. He answers meaningful questions like:
Will we remember our lives or each other?
What happens to children who die?
Will there be marriage in Heaven?
What if someone was cremated?
Is there hope for those who died by suicide?
I appreciated how faithfully Dr. Jeremiah used Scripture to answer these questions and to form educated guesses for the ones the Bible doesn’t directly address. I found great comfort in his reflection on whether animals or pets will be in Heaven and also the reminder that, “There will be a higher, holier, and happier order to the way life happens…God has some wonderful surprises for us in heaven.”
Overall, it’s an enjoyable, encouraging read filled with reasons to stay excited about Heaven and to live with hope. I highly recommend this as a must-read!
I received The Promise of Heaven from W Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
One of my favorite books from 2025. Enlightening and encouraging. This wasn't a deep expository dive into what heaven will be like, but rather a more digestible and easier to read and understand explanation. The sections of the book were The Anticipation of Heaven, the Atmosphere of Heaven, The Appointments of Heaven, the Answers About Heaven, and the Application of Heaven.
The Answers About Heaven was my favorite section. where Dr. Jeremiah covers questions like: Won't Heaven Be Boring?, Will We Remember?, and Will There Be Animals in Heaven?, among several others.
This was a follow up to Dr. Jeremiah's book The Coming Golden Age about the Millennial Kingdom, which I read previously (5/5 stars). I'll be going back and reading The Great Disappearance about the Rapture, which was published prior to The Coming Golden Age. I've found this series to be really informative and reassuring without being too dry, confusing, or overwhelming.
5/5 stars. Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dr. David Jeremiah, and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read the eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
I love the work of Dr .David Jeremiah and his ministry. This book was very uplifting and reminds the reader that earth is not our final home. The first part of the book relies on direct scripture to portray what heaven will be like. Dr. Jeremiah answers many questions that people ask him and many of us have thought about. He talks about the happiness of heaven and what will be absent from heaven. Even though I have read the scripture, his explanation brings things more into focus.
The focus of this book is our anticipation of heaven, the atmosphere of heaven, The appointments and rewards in heaven, and the most compelling part for me is the application f heaven in our current life on earth. He shares how we must be heavenly minded and live our earthly lives with motivation and anticipation of heaven. Dr. Jeremiah reminds us of the only "one way" that we can expect this reward.
He ends the book with the question: "How will we know for sure that this reward is waiting for us?" An easy read with many practical stories and examples.
I truly enjoy Christian Non-Fiction Books. The Promise of Heaven: 31 Reasons to Get Excited About Your Eternal Home by Dr. David Jeremiah is the latest book I have read.
We all wonder and think about what Heaven will be like. Dr. David Jeremiah has written this book to answers the HARD questions that so many ask. I really LOVE that Dr. David Jeremiah points the reader to the Scriptures about Heaven. He is very detailed with his answers to the most common questions about Heaven. The book is very encouraging and would be helpful to those going through life struggles and more. The layout of the book, 31 Chapters of answering 1 of the HARD questions, biblical truth and real life stories makes the book easy to read. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is looking for encouragement and to those who want to know their Eternal Home is ready and waiting for them. GREAT BOOK!
The Promise of Heaven is a well-written book that answers questions people ask with biblical scriptures. It provides a clear and precise answer to the most frequently asked questions regarding Heaven.
The real-life stories were a nice added touch. The book will bring confidence and strength to have faith in your forever home. It's a reminder to keep your eyes above, knowing your future is secure—trust in what is above, not your earthly things.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
This book was wonderful. I loved the information about heaven and you could tell it was biblically researched which matters so much to me. It's one that leaves me thinking. Not only does it talk about the structure and place of heaven, but relationships which are so important to me. I finished this book even more excited and learning even more than before about the place we're all going to live in as believers together with Christ!
I received this book as a complimentary copy from netgalley but wasn't obligated to write a review. All opinions are my honest opinions.
Thank you to NetGalley and W Publishing | Thomas Nelson for the ARC copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. The thoughts and opinions are all my own.
How ironic that I would be reading,”The Promise of Heaven” during a family medical emergency. God wasn’t ready for my husband yet, but I couldn’t help but reflect on what I was reading here.
A must ready for everyone. It will definitely get you excited about heaven and help to give you peace in letting go of those who have gone before us!
The Promise of Heaven by Dr. David Jeremiah is a detailed exposition about heaven. I absolutely love that the book is fully based on the Bible and not speculations. The author did a great job answering many common questions about what heaven would be like. Very well researched and written. Highly recommended I got the ARC from W Publishing | Thomas Nelson via Netgalley. This is my honest review
Was sent an ARC of this book by publisher. Upon reading the summary and author info, I will not be reading this title. The author is the founder of Turning Point and Shadow Mountain, both of which I believe are far too politically involved and judgmental of others than a religious organization should be.
I suggest everyone should read this book if you have any questions about Heaven. It’s nice to know about our eternal home and a great book to have bible study over. That’s the reason I bought the book. We watched the YouTube videos The Promise of Heaven and created some dialog through the book. It’s been a great month learning about Heaven.
A wonderfully written book about the rewards awaiting us in heaven if we have truly given our lives to Him. We must have our names written in 'the Lamb's Book of Life'. It's such an inspirational book which I highly recommend.
This is an excellent book on the subject of how to make sure you are on the right track to go to heaven. Dr. David Jeremiah brings it to us in scripture and down to earth everyday language. PLEASE read this book!
A must read for every Christian!!! The epilogue says it all! Dr Jeremiah was guided by our Lord and Savior to put this before us and then challenges us at the end to accept our choice. I
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that “whosoever” believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 10:13, For “whosoever” shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
I love Dr. David Jeremiah's writing style and all his books. This one did not fail to exceed my expectations. This book left me hopeful and inspired. It explains many things about what Heaven will be like. A must read for any believer or someone who is new to the Christian faith.
I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy in the mail yesterday. It was a quick read. If i were still an evangelical minded person, I would have enjoyed this book more.
Such a great book that can be used as a devotional. I appreciated his teaching on cremation and animals most. His guidance on how to live in light of heaven is invaluable.
