Words actually come to life in this quirky novel about overcoming heartbreak and how to let go of your past. Library employee and stage five clinger, Stella, is struggling to get over being dumped by someone named WADE LOL. A sudden turn of events takes her on a fun and magical adventure of self discovery.

This was an especially fun read for me since I have a love for both writing and reading. The author does an amazing job turning words into sparkling visualizations. The only problem I had was Stella's brother glorifying a "life-changing" “three-figure salary”... I loved the sudden twists at the end! These blindsides made the whole story worth it and come together quite nicely.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Muse for providing me with a digital copy for review.

❁ Thank you to Netgalley, Jennifer Moorman and Harper Muse for the opportunity to read the ARC of this in exchange of my honest opinion ❁

Ok, umm 🤔
This is a nice book, a quick and pleasant read but I expected more.
That's it, the whole review.

I expected more because I know how wonderfully Moorman can turn a simple plot in so much more and I was waiting and waiting and it never came. So it was nice, interesting idea, but quite underwhelming execution and ending for me. Also the love story: underwhelming.
Loved the word-seeing plot and the charmed library bits.
Still, I'm interested in this author's writing, I'll probably give her another chance in the future and also re-read the one I've loved in the past ✨

Ⓟⓡⓔ—Ⓡⓔⓥⓘⓔⓦ

I've been sitting on this ARC for a while:
A. Because, sadly, the best way to read this is on.the.computer (not good for my eyes) and not the kindle version since it's not the definitive edition
B. Because I have high expectations!

I've had the pleasure of reading another ARC from J. Moorman, "The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds", and I thought it was literally exceptional.. an amazing story written with poignant emotion, romantic without being a romance, thought provoking.
Now I do expect another great and beautifully written story, just not behind a red door, but inside a library 💖

Imagine Night at the Museum, but inside a library. Figuring out her life after heartbreak, our protagonist finds peace only in the library she works in. But strange little incidents hint that something secretive is happening here. Characters from books start stepping into reality, and the words she occasionally sees on pages begin exploding out of nowhere. And just like that, the adventure begins.

The book carries its moments of emotion and uses them to beautifully shape narration and decision-making. We witness stagnant lives, uprooted ones, friendships, and even crushes stepping right out of the books. Amidst the chaos that unfolds, we also see characters losing themselves in love (absolute head over heels) and making plans that may not always feel right. But all’s well that ends well. The magic lingers in every nook and cranny of the story—it feels as if someone gathered all our wishes and poured them onto ink and paper.

I feel this book will charm every book lover because it speaks to the one dream we all secretly share: meeting the characters who live inside our favorite books! So go ahead and read or listen to it.

Imagine having your biggest fictional crush come to
Life…meeting your favorite characters in person…and facing the villains of your childhood . Imagine not only having words guide us when they are spoken but having words control us and lead us to our desires, warn us of our fears and hopes. In her upcoming novel Jennifer Moorman opens up the magic portal of books and allows the reader to see if the characters they love became reality.

Stella Parker is a woman who is searching for purpose She’s had a life filled with loss and she’s done with love. She’s always found solidarity in books and she has a power of seeing words all around When she meets her favorite book character in the flesh her whole world turns upside down.

Perfect read to escape to imagine to hope and to give love a second chance

Another beautiful story by Jennifer Moorman! The power of words and stories and books is the center of the magic that happens in the library where Stella works. I absolutely loved everything about this story. Jennifer’s gorgeous writing makes this book an absolute joy to read.

If you love libraries, books and words with a little magic sprinkled in then this is the book for you. Don’t question the why the magic happens…just enjoy it and savor this story!!!!!

While an adorable concept, this book didn’t hit the mark for me. The idea of Stella, a librarian in a small town, being able to see “words” around her that no one else can see was an interesting bit of magic but there was really no explanation as to WHY there is magic in this story. Perhaps that’s the contribution to the small-town mystery? I would have liked Jack to have been introduced a bit differently because that entire relationship just gave me a bit of the ick, but I won’t get into the specifics on that.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read The Charmed Library by Jennifer Moorman in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The premise immediately caught my attention—Night at the Museum, but with book characters coming to life inside a magical library 📚✨. The atmosphere had a cozy, whimsical charm, and I really liked the idea of stories literally stepping off the page.

Unfortunately, the execution didn’t fully work for me. I struggled to connect with the characters, and the writing style just wasn’t my cup of tea. While the magical setting was enjoyable, I often felt detached from the story itself, which made it harder to stay invested.

By the end, the overall message also didn’t quite land for me—especially the idea that the path to a perfect man is simply writing him into existence 😅. It wasn’t necessarily bad, just not something that resonated with me.

Would I recommend it?
Maybe. If you love whimsical, bookish magic and don’t mind a lighter emotional connection to the characters, this could still be a fun, cozy read.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.

I absolutely love novels where characters from your favorite books come to life, so I knew I had to read this when I discovered it on NetGalley. So glad I did, as it was so amazing. This was the first book I had read by Jennifer Moorman, but I will be looking up more of her books.

I know this was not set up as a series, but if the author found some way to write it into a series, I would love to see more. For those who loved this and want more books like this, I would recommend Steffanie Holmes' Nevermore Bookstore series. It is a cozy mystery series that is in the similar vein, but while this book is clean, that series has quite a bit of smut in it. Also, this book isn't a cozy. Just the similarities being the characters jumping out of the books and mysteries surrounding it. Anyway, I would love it if the author found a way to turn this into a series. Maybe explore the magic behind the library or something.

In THE CHARMED LIBRARY, penned by master storyteller Jennifer Moorman, readers are invited to embark on a whimsical literary adventure that transcends the ordinary.

The story unfolds in the picturesque Blue Sky Valley, North Carolina, where we meet Stella Parker, an exceptionally talented and overqualified assistant librarian. Stella's world is transformed when she unravels a captivating secret: the quaint public library she cherishes is not just a sanctuary of books, but a mystical portal that grants access to myriad fictional characters.

As the pages turn, readers find themselves entangled in a rich tapestry of imagination, where the line between reality and fantasy blurs, and every corner of the library brims with enchanting possibilities.

About...

Grieving her father’s death and a recent breakup, Stella impulsively burns a journal filled with notes to her ex in the library's furnace.

For years, Stella has seen "floating" words that give her insight into emotions. After burning the journal, these words become aggressive, urgent, and physically painful, demanding she pay attention to them.

Since childhood, the words have given Stella a unique understanding of people's inner thoughts and feelings, often appearing as harmless, floating fragments of text.

After Stella burns her ex's journal, the words change dramatically, becoming demanding, urgent, and even painful. This shift acts as a magical trigger, pulling her into the library's hidden secrets and forcing her to confront her own potential and emotional stasis.

Stella encounters Jack Mathis, the World War II soldier from her favorite novel, Beyond the Southern Horizon, who has stepped out of the pages into the real world.

Skeptical of the library's magic, Stella accidentally releases the villainous Captain Hook from Peter Pan. Hook is far more dangerous than his literary counterpart, forcing Stella and Jack to work together to capture him.

Stella learns from her mentor, Arnie Cohen, that fictional characters can only remain in the real world for fourteen days before they must return to their stories.

As Stella falls for Jack, she must navigate her grief and writer's block to determine if she can move forward without him and "write" her own next chapter.

Key Characters

~Stella Parker:
An assistant librarian with a hidden gift for seeing words.

~Jack Mathis:
A handsome WWII soldier and Stella's literary first crush.

~Arnie Cohen:
Stella’s boss and mentor, who has been guarding the library's secrets.

~Captain Hook:
The primary antagonist released by Stella's mistake.

~Mr. Darcy:
One of several classic characters who make cameos in the library

In addition to Jack Mathis, Captain Hook, and Mr. Darcy, The Charmed Library features several other notable literary cameos and secondary characters: Benjamin Button, Meredith and Olivia, Ariel, and Nana. The novel includes various other well-known "book boyfriends" and classic characters who visit the library under the 14-day rule, which mandates that they must return to their respective stories after two weeks in the real world.

My thoughts...

The central takeaway of Jennifer Moorman’s THE CHARMED LIBRARY is the transformative power of storytelling and the importance of choosing to author your own future despite grief or past heartbreak.

The floating words Stella sees in The Charmed Library are a manifestation of her innate magical gift, which provides insight into emotions and untold stories. Their significance evolves throughout the novel.

Ultimately, the words serve as a guiding force on her journey of self-discovery and healing, encouraging her to "reclaim her own story" and move past heartbreak. They help her understand that she has the power to change her life and guide others to the stories they need most.

The Power of Words: The title encapsulates the novel's core theme: the belief that stories and words have a powerful, enchanting influence on our lives, capable of shaping us and calling us back to ourselves.

Key themes & messages:

~The Healing Power of Words: The novel serves as a "love letter" to libraries, emphasizing how books act as a catalyst for healing and renewal. For Stella, her magical ability to see words represents how literature provides insight into complex human emotions.

Self-Discovery: Stella’s journey moves from a state of being "stuck" in a job and life she feels overqualified for toward a path of self-acceptance.

The narrative encourages readers to "reclaim their own story" rather than letting past regrets or missed chances define them.

~Embracing Impermanence: The "14-day rule" for fictional characters serves as a metaphor for the reality that "all stories must end". Stella must learn to savor the magic of the moment while accepting the necessity of letting go to move forward.

~Courage to Face the Unknown: By facing both literal literary villains and her own internal struggles, Stella learns that the "impossible" can become possible when one possesses the courage to follow one's own path rather than the expectations of others

The title THE CHARMED LIBRARY signifies both the literal and metaphorical magic within the novel. The library is physically "charmed" with the power to bring fictional characters to life, while also representing the power of stories to enchant, heal, and transform real lives.

The words are a central symbol of the novel's overarching theme: the transformative power of words and stories to influence, heal, and shape our lives.

The "charm" extends to the emotional journey of the characters. The library acts as a safe haven and a catalyst for Stella's self-discovery, helping her move past grief and heartbreak to "author" her own future.

In summary, if you have delved into the works of Jennifer Moorman before, you are familiar with the enchanting experience that awaits you—an exquisite fusion of literary depth and the ethereal charm of magical realism that will transport you to realms both familiar and fantastical.

The audiobook...

I had the immense pleasure of diving headfirst into the mesmerizing world of the book, while simultaneously reveling in the audio version, which was expertly brought to life by the extraordinarily talented and award-winning narrator, Kathleen McInerney (a favorite). Her enchanting voice wove a spell that transformed each magical character into a vivid presence, creating an experience that felt utterly transcendent for any avid book lover. The story whisked me away to an enchanting realm filled with wonder and intrigue, leaving me with a profound and resonant message about the transformative power of books—an insight that lingered in my mind long after I turned the final page.

Recs...

Readers who enjoy the blend of magical realism, romance, and the power of literature, as in The Charmed Library, might like other novels where books and fictional characters intersect with the real world or feature similar themes of self-discovery and destiny by the following authors, I recommend, and Moorman's previous work.

~Meg Shaffer
~Patti Callahan Henry
~Lynda Cohen Loigman,
~Sarah Addison Allen
~Matt Haig
~Heather Webber
~Evie Woods
~Sarah Jio

A small town, second chance at love story that has an assistant librarian falling for her fictional book boyfriend as she learns that her library has the special ability to bring fictional characters to real life. This was unique, compelling and one of those stories you just don't want to end. Great on audio and highly recommended for fans of books like The astral library by Kate Quinn and The book charmer by Karen Hawkins. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio and digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

'But she placed a hand over her heart and knew they were no ordinary words. They had an agenda... One that might burn a hole right through her.' (Pg 13)

Speculative Fiction / Magical Realism | Contemporary Fantasy | Cozy Rom-Com

"What if it's time you stretch your willingness to believe in the extraordinary?" (Pg 119)

Surprising! It's about the reluctance to let go of the past. Holding on to the memories even though they hurt, realizing what is happening, but not knowing how to fix it or where to start, in order to let go, heal, and move forward. BUT it's more than that! Love the whimsy and the idea that everything holds a word or phrase. A sense of truth, if only we look hard enough and are open enough to unravel the hidden meanings.

'....sometimes I linger for a moment, standing in the center of those memories with closed eyes and open arms, and I remember you when we were us, when we were in love.' (Pg 96)

It is definitely a charming and cozy — with a bit of thrill — kind of romance story. Includes an interesting twist. Some sadness that may have prickled my eyes a little, and a love that goes beyond all natural logic and blurs the lines between fiction and non-fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! All thoughts are my own.

If you’re looking for an easy HEA without many problems, and also happen to be a super-fan of libraries, this book could be for you.

Personally, I did not connect. The concept was very promising, but the execution fell short. Mostly due to the following issues:

1. It was way too wordy. Please don’t drag things out needlessly for word count. Make your words count! There were so many extraneous details and unnecessary minutiae about the things Stella did, ate, and saw. From a detailed description of the linoleum floor to what she packed in an overnight bag for the hospital, there were countless throwaway sentences that didn't really add to the story at all. The meat and potatoes of the novel contributed to (maybe) 50% of the word count, and the rest was just filler. I wish there was more show, and less tell.

2. The magical concepts were lacking in many ways. And they were some really solid concepts! Stella's own ability was interesting, and the idea of fictional characters coming to life is absolute gold. But almost nothing was fleshed out or explained in detail. There were no rules as to how or when Stella could use her own magical ability, so it felt like it was just conveniently inserted from time to time. And then, the magic of the characters coming to life was explained away in the most matter-of-fact and arbitrary manner. This mysterious concept you wait almost the entire story for was described in less than a page. All in all, pretty disappointing.

3. Flat characters. I would have loved to see greater development of each character. The most unique one was probably Ariel, but everyone else kind of came across as the same, without a distinctive voice. And the most disappointing was definitely Jack. Absolutely nothing about him proved he was a decorated American soldier from the 1940’s (except for the fact that he listened to an old record one morning, and he often said the word “swell”). He came across as the most normal, modern man who didn't have much to say, and was super into Stella... for some reason.

4. Plot holes, too many conveniences, and nonsensical storyline choices.

I will give the book 2 stars because of the concept, but I have too many hesitations to credibly give The Charmed Library anything more.

3.5 ⭐️

The Charmed Library was an endearing and sweet read—one of those fluffy stories that passes the time nicely. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it had enough charm to keep me going.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kathleen McInerney, who did a fine job overall. Her voice was warm and perfectly suited to the FMC, giving the story a soft, comforting tone. The pacing was average, though I found it more engaging once I sped it up a bit. The overall production quality was clean and crisp, which made for a pleasant listening experience.

This book has an undeniable coziness to it, with themes that will likely appeal to readers who enjoy gentle, heartwarming tales with a touch of magic. However, for me, it stayed firmly in the “nice but not memorable” category. It had all the right ingredients but never quite rose above being simply okay.

In the end, The Charmed Library was a perfectly fine, feel-good read—sweet, easy to listen to, and a solid choice when you want something light and comforting.

was fortunate to receive a complimentary ALC from Harper Muse Audio via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to share my voluntary thoughts.

How I Rate
Because I mostly read ARCs, I focus on how I think fellow readers with similar tastes will respond. I sometimes round up or down based on pacing, prose, or overall impact, and I try to keep my personal preferences from weighing too heavily.

⭐️ 1 Star – Finished, but not for me; I never DNF ARCs.
⭐️⭐️ 2 Stars – Struggled due to writing, content, or editing issues.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 Stars – Decent read with untapped potential; recommend with some reservations.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars – Really enjoyed it and would recommend for several reasons.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Exceptional; lingers in my mind well after reading. A story I’d gladly revisit.

This story has everything a bookworm could ask for …. a library, a book boyfriend 🥰, a town festival and the best of friends and family.

Jennifer Moorman brings once again a magical element in THE CHARMED LIBRARY that is extraordinary and enchanting. Stella is an assistant librarian who is grieving both the loss of her father and a devastating break-up. One day she decides to burn her journal as a means to leave the past in the past AND that’s when the magic begins. 🙌🏼 The author adds a great cast of literary favorites (including Mr Darcy) and an excruciatingly handsome man in Jack, and the sweetest friend, Arnie to Stella’s world ♥️♥️

Thank you @jenniferrmoorman for sharing a copy of THE CHARMED LIBRARY with Beyond the Pages as a traveling ARC. And I can’t wait to meet you next month in Nashville 😍

“If we don’t believe in magic, we’ll never find it.”

This book is available for preorder now but while you wait … read THE MAGIC ALL AROUND and THE VANISHING OF JOSEPHINE REYNOLDS stat.

Another magical book by Moorman. A library comes alive with all kinds of characters.

Stella, is a librarian assistant who has gone through a painful breakup and she is feeling stuck.

She has a unique ability which adds to her life and the library is the perfect place as it comes alive magically. A wonderful character and her gift makes this a fun book to immerse yourself. Libraries are magical, but this added gift adds to the magic.

I discovered this author last year with my bookclub and am working my way through her books. I have enjoyed all that I have read and she is an auto-buy for me.

The Charmed Library by Jennifer Moorman promised a whimsical, bookish fantasy but delivered shallow characters and teenage-level dialogue. The main character’s immaturity and stupidity made it hard to stay engaged. A great idea that, sadly, lost its magic early on.

What an absolutely INCREDIBLE book! And, what a vivid imagination this author has! 😊

Stella is an assistant librarian. She loves her job, but is kind of stifled there. Her boss is wonderful, but she doesn’t really see herself going any further…

Additionally, she recently had her heart broken. Or, more likely, gave it to the wrong person to hold on to. 😳

Plus, she feels like she is all alone!

Her father passed, not too long ago.
Her Mother walked out on their family when she was little… and never looked back (or came back!) 😮😮
And her brother wants her to move on, and move out… preferably to another state… like Florida.
But she doesn’t want any part of that!!

One day she decides to burn her book of love notes and poems for/from Wade… the one who broke her heart.
She is really unsettled about this as she LOVES all things book related… but she really feels like she needs to let go.
So she goes ahead with this… and then everything seems to change for her. She starts experiencing something like ‘magic’…. And feels like she can pull books out for people based on signs she sees emitting from them in the form of words! (Wait… what???? )

And, she thinks she hears things coming from the archives… voices. But her boss says she’s crazy.

Until one day something happens… and he needs help… and Stella’s life will never be the same again!!

So this is a kind of ‘dual timelines’ book, but not really. Kind of like ‘Magicks’… but not really. And there’s lots of emotions… love… friendships… bonds… community coming together… and so much more!

To put it succinctly… THIS IS A MAGICAL BOOK, and if what I’ve mentioned inspires you, please, DON’T PASS THIS ONE UP!!

#TheCharmedLibrary by @JenniferMoorman and narrated beautifully by @KathleenMcinerney.

5 Incredible, Magical, Shiny, Sparkly, Word-Infused, Phenomenal Stars for me!! ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️

Oh… and can I mention that I just LOVE the COVER too??!!

*** THIS ONE HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YET!! Please look 👀 for it in a few weeks, on 1/6/26!! ***

2.5 stars,
A really cute and cosy concept, I love the idea of fictional characters coming to life but just felt the execution wasn’t there. The writing style wasn’t for me and was very much ‘tell’ rather than ‘show’. I also would have loved for the magic elements to be more fleshed out and the romance to have some more depth. This was an cute, easy read though and I did enjoy the concept!

"Stella Parker had never burned a book in her life. Had never once thrown pages of text—much less handwritten love letters and poetry—into a fire. Yet there she was, purposefully setting fire to one of the most precious things in her life: words."

That is the first paragraph of the prologue for The Charmed Library. I was immediately sold. Moorman's writing style is simply gorgeous. And it’s beautifully suited to magical realism. The early pages of this story led me to ask myself: why don't I read more magical realism? I really should, because it’s charming. This melding of the reality I know with the magical and fantastical I long for just such a lovely, hopeful juxtaposition when handled properly. And Moorman strikes that balance well.
"As the ashes faded into the dusk, the library listened, waiting, knowing that every story—especially the ones set free—would find its way home."

Stella sees words everywhere, and she has all of her life. They were once her greatest source of joy, her own personal magic. But those words have lost their luster to her over the years, to the point where she tries to ignore them instead of finding a way to embrace this beautiful, rare gift she’s been given. When we meet her, she is painfully learning to let go of long-gone relationships instead of gripping tight to their shattered remnants. And that’s the biggest theme in this story. You don't have to burn the memories to ash, but you do need to move on from them. For your own sake. It's never healthy to live in the past to the detriment of your present.
"...there would never be enough paper, enough space, to release all the words clawing, springing, secreting their way out of her."

If you're a lover of books, especially classics, you'll love the references here, and the way those stories seem to leap off their pages. There are some interesting twists and rules to the magic that draws characters from their stories. I love when there are in-world rules to govern the fantastical. I also love when the author gives us those rules with a wink, suggesting that sometimes rules are made to be broken. There’s also a lovely twist on the micro-trope of bookish matchmaking that I found delightful, and I wish it would have been given more time on the page.
“That’s the trouble with books. There are always so many things I’m curious about, little pieces of information that aren’t included because how can an author possibly include everything?"

All kinds of wonderful literary characters make an appearance in this story, even if only in passing. Some of these include Peter Pan, Helen of Troy, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Mr. Darcy, Robinson Crusoe, and Captain Hook. While most felt very true to their original form instead of any later adaptation, this iteration of Captain Hook felt like he was pulled straight out of Once Upon a Time. Except not nearly as charming.
"What makes a character stay with us forever? What if the stories we love could love us back? And most poignantly: What if stories could help us find our way when we feel lost?"

The romance in this (NOT with Hook) takes a pretty steamy turn. It's more fade-to-black than fully closed-door. In other words, it’s not wholly innocent. There are also hints of the extramarital in the backstory. These things likely stood out to me more than they would to most readers, as I’ve changed my literary diet over more and more to almost exclusively Christian fiction and classics. However, I did very much like the romantic lead. I can see why Stella was so charmed by him. The rest of the cast was also lovely, especially the head librarian and Stella’s best friend. Though I must confess there were more than a few moments when I found our protagonist exasperating.
“…just because a thing once was something doesn’t mean it always has to be. We can change our minds, start over, try something new.”

And that leads me into the subjective things that didn’t work for me. I was initially intrigued by this novel because comparisons were drawn between it and The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep—one of my favorite books about books—as well a one of my comfort movies, Night at the Museum. While I completely see this story’s correlation to both of those, it didn’t lead into the literary aspect or the magical nature of that literary aspect enough for me. This was quite obviously a romance in a magical realism casing; that romantic element became more and more focal to the plot as the story progressed, shouldering aside the magical bookishness that initially drew me in. But again, that’s a subjective stance. By and large, I enjoyed my time in The Charmed Library, even if I didn’t find myself completely satisfied.

A DELIGHTFUL MAGICAL REALISM STORY

SUMMARY
All libraries are magic, and some libraries are more magical than others. The public library in Blue Sky Valley, North Carolina, is in the latter category. Stella Parker is an assistant librarian who is unaware of her library’s special magic, but she soon discovers strange characters in the library after hours. One of the characters is Jack Mathis, the main character from her favorite book. Stella finds that she, too, has the power to bring fictional characters to life when she inadvertently invites Captain Hook to the library, and chaos ensues.

Stella quickly learns the importance of protecting the library’s secret. As she gets to know and fall in love with the real Jack Mathis she has to face the reality that all stories must end. The characters who visit the library can only stay for fourteen days. Jack’s time is almost up, and Stella must face the reality of her loss.

If you could bring a fictional character from a book to life, who would it be?

REVIEW
THE CHARMED LIBRARY is a delightful, magical realism story. It’s a lighthearted story about grief and growth and the role of books. The story is fun and imaginative, and it is a great read for lovers of books, stories, and libraries.

Author Jennifer Moorman’s writing flows nicely and is delightfully descriptive. Stella's character is well-developed and engaging; and her relationship with Jack is endearing. I loved Stella's best friend, Ariel, who was always there for her and full of cheer.

My favorite part is surprisingly when Stella goes head-to-head in a battle for the library with Captain Cook. My least favorite part was the words that popped out everywhere and constantly surrounded Stella, even attacking her at times.

The narrator, Kathleen McInerney, has a warm voice that fits the book perfectly. She slides you into the story and does a fabulous performance, distinguishing character voices. She convincingly performs women and men, young and old, and good guys and bad ones. Her tone, pacing and delivery were enjoyable

“What if it’s time you stretch your willingness to believe in the extraordinary?”

Stella’s heart is broken, and she’s fed up with getting the short end of the stick. Everyone around her agrees she needs a change, but everyone also has their own ideas about how that should look.

She loves her job at the library, but it feels like something’s missing. She sees words everywhere she goes, but Stella is not sure what to do with them or how to put them all together.

One thing she does know for sure is that she loves books. No matter how bad life got, books have always been there for Stella.

“She thought of all the books she’d read in an attempt to disappear into those worlds when living in her own became too challenging, too dark.”

What Stella doesn’t know, however, is what to do when she discovers a few fictional characters in the bowels of the library and the charmed ink pad that brought them to life.

Magical realism at its very best, this book dares to ask what you’d do if you could bring your favorite book characters to life? And by that I, of course, mean who would you want to meet first? And would you be able to handle the possible consequences, even if they left you heartbroken?

This book is an easy sell for any lover of books and a sweet story at its core. I really liked it!

The Charmed Library by Jennifer Moorman

Thank You NetGalley and Harper Muse for a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
For my fellow bookworms and bookdragons, this book is for you!!! It’s a fiction novel where a magical book world comes alive in the library. But be careful which fictional character you wish to bring to life, because some are very dangerous! Imagine you could bring any character to life from a fiction novel! They can stay for 2 weeks only and then disappear back into their novel only to be able to be brought back a year later. And they must remain in or near the library or they will forever be lost from that book, and it will cease to exist.
This is exactly what happens to Stella Parker!!! She works as an assistant librarian in a small town, where her boss and friend Arnie is the head librarian. Years ago, when Arnie was little, he was gifted a magic ink pad and library stamp that can bring fictional characters to life. One of the characters he’s been bringing back often is Jack, whom Stella has fallen in love with. So, when she meets him for the first time, she is stunned. Unfortunately, Arnie is in the hospital and is unable to explain; so Jack tells her what he can and explains how it all works. As the days go by and Jack’s time to leave is approaching, Jack and Stella realize they are in love, but with no way for him to remain, he must go back. Stella talks with Arnie to see if there is a way to keep Jack in the real world, but Arnie is hesitant because a long time ago, someone stayed behind. Arnie warns Stella the fictional character could altogether disappear and in so doing, he reveals to her a secret so surprising to her that she is shaken!
This novel is not one to miss, especially if you ever wish certain book boyfriends could come to life. Join Stella on her crazy journey when this novel comes out on January 6, 2026!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
The premise sounded so good but the actual story was a little bit underwhelming. I expected more from it. I liked some parts but everything felt underdeveloped and rushed.

While I wanted to like this, because hello libraries and magic, I could not connect to anything in this book. The longwindedness in the descriptions of the day to day life of our main character and her victim mentality regarding her love life put me off.

Thank you to Harper Muse and Netgalley for the review copy. This does not change my opinion in anyway.

Can you imagine having the opportunity to talk to a literary character? This was a magical romantic story.
It was a slow build that really ended with a bang!
