Vince prepares to pull off his largest job yet, a heist to steal an artifact containing an ancient evil.
Yet another ancient evil stirs much closer to home. Vince's soul egg awakens, and he finds himself face to face with the being residing within it as she makes him an offer he knows he should refuse.
Caught between scheming foxes on all sides, Vince must master his magic and gear up. With a team at his back, more than his own life is at risk if he falls short.
If only heists didn't have a knack for going horribly wrong, even before suspicions swelled about betrayal.
I am so glad that each of the relationships are progressing at different rates from each other. All of Vince's love interest are varied and impact his life in different ways that reflect who fast or slow their interest progresses and doesn't feel forced as a story plot. I am also glad that we delve more into how the conglomerates plot around not just each other, but the failing mayor and surprise twists of the new group threatening the balance.
(Potential Spoiler Warning)
And I am so thankful for the eventual reveal of why certain things happened that seem to contradict how both Houou and the Yakuza normally dealt with enemies. It helped refresh my memory of what has affected Vince since he left Quintus' employment, and put into perspective just how confusing it was for him to see all the signs of people saying "Don't trust them or who-else, while simultaneously exhibiting signs not to trust them either.
Fights are kind of meaningless, in that anything and everything can happen but pop a potion and boom, healed, no problem, no consequences. People randomly survive not because of skill but plot armor. Fights are also weird because Vince is a slug which makes the story very frustrating. Spells fling around doing random things at random times - there's no flow or momentum or TEMPO. Eg someone slices someone's hand off, well, why didn't you do that in the first place? And how much time has passed? It's hard to describe but I'm not a fan of the fights in MS at all. As for the story, it's fine I guess although I paused for a few days half way because it was boring. The politics were extremely heavy with schemes everywhere and complex webs of relationships ahoy. Too many eggs in the air, so to speak. I'm not sure if I'll continue.
This book was another really strong offering in this series.
It's time for the heist that was proposed in the previous book. Plots are hatched, layers are thought out, and things never go as planned. There's some serious machinations going on around this thing, and the MC finds himself at ground zero of it all.
I will say that the last 20% of the book involves a LOT of monologuing. Whether it's the ultimate antagonist explaining their vision and how things unfolded, or various others explaining details of their counter-plots, it bogs down a bit. It honestly felt like a few hundred pages of a Bond villain explaining their nefarious plot.
Still, it was deeply satisfying, and I wonder where the next book will take us.
I am enjoying the series quite a bit and I think you will too. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. I'll definitely be revisiting this series as the audiobooks drop. I am not aware of any sort of ETA for books three or four. The audio performance has been fantastic thus far. Things have progressed in the relationships and a lot of the intrigue has been Unwound in this entry. There is a potentially very serious issue that our main character will have to deal with in upcoming books.
I liked it a lot BUT GODDAM VINCE KISS ALESSIA ALREADY! Also, the last bit with Vince sealing the deal with Ally really felt like a different writing style than the 2000 pages or whatever that came before. I think the author's fox girl fetish was taking over. Overall happy enough with the story to give the book five stars but it felt a bit less polished than earlier entries, as if it didn't get more than one or two sets of eyes on it that hadn't read the manuscript over and over.
I really don't enjoy this series. Vince is a fun character and I like the world he lives in. This entry saw a few twists, and some answers, but things are left in an uncertain state. I'll be interested to see where this story goes, but for sure it will be a fun ride.
Still some of the best world building and character development you will read anywhere!!! Its been a joy to read this series!!! Thank goodness this author carries through the storyline from page one of book one till the series ends
Needed more editing as the amount of errors was distracting. Otherwise, it was good. Everything centered around the heist mentioned in previous volume, so it did feel like less happened overall. Looking forward to more.
Book 4 continues to build out the world and its intrigues as the Heist gets carried out. Lots of action and more plot developments and background make it a good read.
The balance between politics and action had skewed heavily towards politics. With the main characters having zero accumin, this leaves them with no agency. It had lost all interest for me, and I will not be continuing with the series.
Can’t put it into words how much I just love this series, it’s easily the best in the genre. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what Vince gets up to. Also loving Vince slowly getting stronger and stronger while growing the harem
We finally got a pay off to books worth of plot, and I am not dissapointed at all. K.D. does the Haremlit game as well as anyone. Headed right into the next one.
That's not a full 5 stars from me, it deserve it nontherless. everything is amazing from preparation to action. I somehow predicted some event to happened but still enjoyed how it was presented. And still Not big fan of vince, my boy his only motivation in life is making his pride/pack bigger.
A solid 4, but I felt the editing didn't keep the story moving as much as I thought it should. Still, a good book with developing characters, so I look forward to more.
Really loved this lastest in the series as things really ramp up and the ending is a bang as many questions are answered and even more need to be answered.
