I didn’t eat people. Just men.First of all, I’d like to set the record straight. I wasn’t a cannibal, ʼkay?
I didn’t eat people. Just men. I ate their hearts out before they ever saw me coming. Figuratively, of course. Most of the time.
Sometimes a girl had to do what a girl had to do. And sometimes what I had to do was fry those suckers up with a little bit of buttermilk and enough shortening to give ya coronary.
I wouldn’t ever apologize for it.
Which was something else you should know about me. I was unapologetic. Then again, so was he. Else the hotshot with a blade bigger than his d*ck wouldn’t have barged his way into my little apartment without so much as a “my bad, sorry for disturbing you, ma’am.”
And I wouldn’t have been forced to tie him to a chair and teach him some manners. But here we are, ain’t we?
Just a sweet little Southern girl and the big bad pickle-diddler who thought he was about to get his rocks off.
Guess it wasn’t his lucky day. Sure was mine, though.
Eat Your Heart Out is a dark standalone novella with a HEA. Please heed the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book.
Sybil is a career-driven Philadelphian native. A crime show enthusiast by day, and a BDSM club hopper by night. When she isn't working or writing, she is talking about working and writing. She is a single mom to her beta fish (Fish) and way too many dead houseplants.
Her stories range from gray to black, with darker themes throughout. She prefers heroines with a kick-ass mentality and the heroes who know how to rein them in. The mental and medical aspects of her books are well-researched, though they are given a humanistic approach and diagnoses aren't the focal points. She believes her characters don't need to wear labels in order to get her messages across.
Her books are mostly standalones, though her characters may interact and intersect worlds. Additionally, she works closely with and writes alongside author Dahlia Reign and some characters will appear in cameos in each of their publications.
“Don’t go mansplaining murder to me, Mr. Dawson. One of us is a professional.”
I was lucky enough to be a part of the early reader team for this fun dark romance novella in exchange for an honest review. Since this was so short, in some ways it felt a tad rushed and I wanted more. However, I loved Jack and Charlee’s chemistry. This is the perfect, fast-paced story for if you want something to spice up your Kindle on Valentine’s Day. It was funny, feminist, and ridiculous (in a good way). Charlee is a serial-killing cannibal (who only targets creepy men) and Jack is an unsuspecting burglar who chose the wrong apartment to rob, leading to a meet cute involving kidnapping, man-meat sandwiches, instalust, and a Southern belle who is just “slightly” unhinged.
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, masked mmc, vigilante fmc, only one bed And as always, CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNING PAGE BEFORE DIVING IN 🩷
Charlee, is just minding her own business when she’s alerted to someone entering her house. Sometime later said person, is tied to a chair in her kitchen with a nasty headache…seems a frying pan will do that to someone 🤭 Jack, realises possibly a little too late that he should have err’d on the side of caution with this little lady, as there is more to her than his observations first assessed!
🦵🏻 Bᵤₜ ₕₑᵣₑ wₑ wₑᵣₑ. ᵢₙ cᵣₐzy ₜₒwₙ.🫀
NGL I loved this, I have scoffed and sniggered so much through it, yes, it maybe a little macabre, yes, there is c@nnabilism but the whole story just works bringing together two misfits who are like chalk and cheese but the spicy times 🥵 It’s a quick read, if ya don’t need sleep, the southern drawl works its way into your system, Sybil’s writing brought this little story to life for me 🫶🏻
She's a cannibalistic serial killer vigilante, he's just trying to pay off his debt to the mob (buy robbing people). Unfortunately for him, he breaks into the wrong house tonight... or is it? This book brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'Smash & Grab' ;);)
I loved the whole dynamic between Charlee (FMC) and Jack (MMC). Their banter was top tier funny, sarcastic and a little unhinged. The way they kind of just get each other and don't fight too hard against their connection is great, I mean she ties him to a chair and then uses his phone to call his mum and tell on him for breaking into her home. He thinks she's crazy, and she is but in the best way and I think it's obvious from his 'reactions' that he's into it a lot more than he lets on.
The spice was extra spicy and was great seeing the female lead be in control for a change. I have to say that Charlee is very inventive and has a wonderful imagination.
There is a little mystery to this book and I love how it unravels as the night goes on and how you go from thinking one thing to being quite surprised by the outcome.
I loved this book and I am truly honoured to have been given an advance reader copy to review. Sybil Knight is clearly unhinged and that makes her my new best friend, look forward to reading more of her work. Who knows, maybe we will hear more from Charlee and Jack?
“The thing is…” I hummed. “An open door doesn’t mean someone’s inviting you in any more than an open mouth means I’m willing to blow you. To completion at least.”
♡If Sybil writes it I'm going to read it & she outdid herself once again! This is a super short read that packs a giant punch. This story follows Charlie our FMC who is the definition of a "man eater" & Jack our MMC who faints at anything that makes him queasy. True opposites attract energy going on here with a sprinkle of grumpy/sunshine!
If you love quick dark rom-coms that have you laughing to the point of tears as well as a storyline that will keep you engaged all the way to the end look no further!♡
This book had me cracking up. Sybil really knows how to write these batshit crazy FMCS 🤣 It was short and to the point which I love because sometimes you just want a funny spicy read without having it be 500 pages you know?
What happens when you're down on your luck and decide to rob someone? Well... you run into Charlee of course. Or, actually you get cracked in the head with her frying pan. But you know... semantics. Charlee loves her hair high & her shorts short, but she also loves a good meat stew. Carnivore you ask? No. Cannibal. She has meats a plenty: Tyler, Kevin, Bruce….. So what does that mean for dear ol’ Jack Dawson? (His mom couldn’t name him Leo) Well.. I guess you’ll have to read to find out 🤭
I absolutely loved this novella and I’m genuinely bummed it’s over. I never thought a phrase like “meat stew” would make me laugh and question every serving of mystery food, but here we are.
This story is hilarious, wildly unhinged, and strangely charming in the darkest way. The writing is sharp, the humor lands perfectly, and the pacing never lets up.
Charlee and Jack were such a fun pairing. The FMC is strong, confident, and unapologetically herself, while the MMC quickly learns that some houses, and some people, are best left undisturbed. Their chemistry is intense, playful, and impossible to ignore.
Charlee is a kick@ss FMC who tickled me pink with her sassy mouth and her don't give a fk attitude. Jack, was hilarious bc why? Why wouldn't you fall for this jewel of a woman who can handle anyone who crosses her path... especially when they make such a delicious stew! It was quick, fun, and the southern accent was delightfully on point (I would know). Looking for an unhinged FMC and an easy MMC? Look no further. Sybil's got ya covered, sugar. 😉
im so glad I got a chance to sit at the table .. but im not eating the meat 🍽🤪🤣 this was such a fun, hilariously man eating dark rom com! I absolutely devoured this book! i loved it! 🖤 as always check your triggers thank you so much for a seat at the table and letting me arc read this book! cannot wait to read more by Sybil.🖤 My next read is actually going to be V Card by Sybil! 🖤
This book was unhinged in the best way 😂 Charlee had me cackling from page one, and Jack? Too good for this world. I loved how understanding and genuinely in love he was from the start.
It’s dark, a little twisted, and way too much fun. Eat Your Heart Out totally lived up to its name.
Charlee, our sweet but chaotic FMC, is getting ready to cook up something special for herself when she hears something strange. Actually, someone. A masked intruder. Unfortunately for him, she's not your usual damsel in distress and knocks him out with a trusty cast-iron skillet. Jack, our unassuming MMC, wakes up tied and bound to a chair in a kitchen. Finding him not so ugly under his balaclava, she decides to teach the man a lesson for breaking into her home. Charlee has a... particular taste. Will he learn the easy way or the hard way? What happens when he finds out what's in the pot?
Charlee's character is glamorous and very interesting. She has one of those personalities that are just intriguing, unhinged, and fabulous. Perhaps because of her equally fabulous hair. She's not afraid to be herself, take what she wants and who she wants, a self-aware baddie whose sarcasm is the cherry on the cake.
Jack, bless him, he stumbles into the wrong house at the wrong time, but he gets taught a lesson that has me turning the pages like a addict. I like how he tries to understand why she does what she does and tries to get closer to her in his own way, even if she tries to hide the why's at first. You can see how much he has come to truly like her, care for her. He has a protective side to him and he may not fully understand why she's into her... acquired tastes, but he's supportive.
The way these two end up together is probably kind of a surprising plot twist, but hey, at least it's a HEA. Kez was weird, odd and strangely intriguing in a way: like I want to slap the sh_t out of him for being weird, but on the other hand, have a little sit down with him and have a proper chat to get to the bottom of things? My inner non-qualified therapist sometimes gets the better of me, and I hate it. I quite appreciate the bonus chapter that gives us some insight about the MMC's childhood.
So, this is a spicy romance with a splash of cuteness, humour that makes you laugh out loud, and a good plot line. The beginning really pulls you in. It's fairly fast-paced and a fun, short, spicy read. Considering I've read so many questionable books, but human meat consumption is where I draw the line at? Wow. Ok. Anyways. The backstory tugs at my heart strings.
Eat your heart out by Sybil knight WOW .. This book wasted zero time letting me know I was about to have the time of my life. We open in Charlee’s POV, casually shoving a severed hand down a garbage disposal while delivering one of the most unhinged, hilarious internal monologues I’ve read in a long time. From page one, you know exactly what you’re getting: a Southern-fried, morally unhinged FMC who eats men—literally—and does it with pink heels, sass, and a very specific code of ethics. Charlee is a serial killer cannibal… but somehow also one of the most charismatic, confident, and weirdly principled FMCs I’ve ever met. She doesn’t kill indiscriminately. She kills bad men. Men who don’t respect boundaries. Men who think they’re entitled to women’s bodies. And she turns them into freezer meals with the same care most people use to meal prep chicken breasts. Then there’s Jack Dawson (yes, really), a career criminal who breaks into the wrong house and ends up tied to a chair, edged within an inch of his sanity, and slowly realizing he might be more afraid of—yet wildly attracted to—this woman than anyone he’s ever met. Their dynamic is electric: dark humor, power play, mutual chaos, and a level of sexual tension that borders on deranged. The spice? Unhinged. Filthy. Creative. Relentless. This book doesn’t just push boundaries—it chews them up and swallows them whole. The sex is explicit, often funny, sometimes alarming, and always intentional. It never feels there just for shock value; it fits the characters perfectly. Charlee is in control, unapologetically dominant, and completely aware of how dangerous—and irresistible—she is. What really sold me, though, was the tone. This book is dark but playful, grotesque but charming. Sybil Knight balances cannibalism, serial killing, and organized crime with humor so sharp it had me laughing out loud more than once. Lines like “Buck all ya want, cowboy. I happen to be an expert bull rider” live rent-free in my brain—and honestly should be framed. By the time you reach the end, you’re not questioning how this relationship works—you’re rooting for it. Against all logic, Charlee and Jack make sense. They’re messy, morally skewed, and somehow… perfect for each other. If you like: * dark rom-com energy * morally gray (okay, pitch black) FMCs * “he broke into the wrong house” * extreme spice + power play * humor mixed with absolute chaos Eat Your Heart Out is a must-read. Unhinged. Hilarious. Filthy. Iconic. 🩸🍽️ Charlee Dawson, I love you and fear you in equal measure.
If you’re looking for a romance that breaks every rule in the book—and then literal laws—Sybil Knight has served up a masterpiece of dark, Southern-fried chaos. This story introduces us to Charlee, a high-heeled vigilante with a penchant for cannibalism and a very specific "diet" consisting solely of men who deserve to disappear. Her life is a perfectly curated blend of gore and glamour until Jack, a debt-ridden thief, picks the absolute worst living room to rob.
From the opening scene featuring a kitchen disposal and a stray limb, the tone is set: this is unhinged, irreverent, and brilliantly pitch-black. Charlee isn't just a killer; she’s a charismatic force of nature who treats "bad men" like a meal-prep Sunday. When Jack stumbles into her lair, he expects a quick score but finds himself zip-tied to a chair, facing a woman who is as likely to call his mother to tattle on him as she is to carve him up.
The chemistry between these two is a high-voltage wire of sarcasm and mutual instability. Their banter is top-tier, crackling with a "he’s terrified but also definitely turned on" energy that keeps the pages turning. Jack is a career criminal who thinks he’s seen it all, but he’s never met a woman who exerts dominance with such creative, bone-chilling confidence.
What to expect:
• A Dominant FMC: Charlee is unapologetically in charge. Watching her flip the script on traditional power dynamics is both refreshing and wildly entertaining.
• Unhinged Spice: The intimacy is explicit, inventive, and perfectly tailored to their dark personalities. It’s filthy in the best way possible.
• Gallows Humor: The writing is razor-sharp. You’ll find yourself laughing at things that probably should require a therapy session.
• Twisted Mystery: Beyond the blood and heat, there’s a genuine plot that unravels throughout the night, leading to an ending that feels earned and surprisingly sweet in a "bonnie-and-clyde-on-acid" kind of way.
By the end, you’ll stop wondering how a cannibal and a burglar could ever work and start rooting for them to take on the world. It’s a grotesque, charming, and totally addictive ride that proves some people are just the right kind of crazy for each other.
Have I mentioned how much I love Sybils dark sense of humor before? I mean, I know I've hounded her time and again about my love of Thumper(Yeah, he is still my baby boy)... But every story I read just never really leaves my mind, and this one won't either!
This plot was just too good, and as much as we are warned that we shouldn't take it seriously, I absolutely adored it! A dash of suspense, a pinch of backstory, a metric ton of spice, some great side characters, amazing banter, and would you believe it.... A HEA!!!(YAY, ahem, still waiting for some endings on a few other ones. My imagination doesn't like making decisions here).
Charlee is just a sweet southern belle doing her best to follow the Dolly rules... If by following we mean, doing secret vigilante work that fills her fridge with mystery meat and empties the streets of the garbage men that can't seem to respect boundaries.... All while looking pretty too. She's killing it, in every aspect. Mama would be proud.
Jack is drowning... He has made some bad decisions and knows that he needs to do some shady shite to turn things around, and he's not ashamed to admit that robbing people is what it's going to take to fix it... But a frying pan to the face might be the last of Mr. Dawson's problems here. He picked the wrong Door, but unlike Rose, Charlee isn't one to let him Drown. But is that the better option with a serial cannibal?
I wish this novella had been longer, but it really did fit a lot into so few pages. I hope that we get to see this pair featured in future works with maybe Kaz having his own time to shine.
I am a bit morbid, so I loved it. But yeah, don't go into this one with a serious mindset, even though Sybil always does manage to throw in a very good plot if you look past all of aloof sarcasm, erotic content, horror, and general hilarity.
Thank you again for letting me into your brain and trusting me with your amazing works. I will never get over the feelings I have when I get those selection emails! 🥹🫀
Please be advised that the female lead in this book is... well, she's "slightly" unhinged to put it mildly. But at least she doesn’t break into people's houses, that's the male lead for you.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! Charlee is fucking insane but I love her for that! Jack is AMAZING! I absolutely love their chemistry and the way they talk to each other.
"Philip. Now, that guy was a real sweetheart. 'Cause of the diabetes. Not his demeanor. In that case, he'd been one of the biggest assholes I'd ever met."
"Don't go mansplaining murder to me, Mr. Dawson. One of us is a professional. The other one still has a frying-pan sized lump on the side of his head."
"I hated to admit it, but there were several advantages to being a newly-turned vegetarian dating a cannibal. Before ya judge me, hear me out! First off, our grocery bill was much lower than most people's. And in this economy, we'd take all the help we could get on that one. Secondly, she never stole my leftovers and I certainly never stole hers."
I was actually laughing out loud from this book sometimes, and also thinking about what the fuck am I even reading right now haha! At this point I will read anything Sybil writes!
I would defenitely recommend this book, just make sure that you read the trigger warnings!
Sybil has done it again with "Eat Your Heart Out," an unhinged dark rom-com that had me hooked and craving more by the end. If you're familiar with Sybil’s work, you know to expect a comprehensive trigger warning list, which I genuinely appreciate. For those unhinged readers who thrive on chaos without being easily triggered, this one is a feast for the senses.
The story revolves around Charlee, a chaotic and unpredictable protagonist whose life is as juicy as a perfectly cooked steak. Sybil masterfully paints Charlee's peculiar palate for meat—quite literally—as she embarks on a wild journey that takes her to dark and unexpected places. Her relationship with her kidnapped boyfriend adds a deliciously twisted layer to the plot, that had me eating this book up.
As the pages turn, the story grows more intense, with a rising body count that keeps the suspense high. Sybil doesn't shy away from writing what so many find uncomfortable and I love her for that. If you're looking for a read that balances humor with horror and a little romance with intrigue, "Eat Your Heart Out" is a savory choice that lingers in your throat long after you finish it, just like a well earned meal. Be prepared for the chaos that comes with it—I didn’t want this wickedly entertaining ride to end!
What happens when you break into a serial killer’s home to rob them? You stop being the predator and start being the appetizer.
This story follows Charlie our FMC who is the definition of a "man eater" & Jack our MMC who faints at anything that makes him queasy. True opposites attract energy going on here with a sprinkle of grumpy/sunshine!
Eat Your Heart Out is wild, unapologetic, and darkly funny in a way that immediately lets you know exactly what kind of ride you're on. From page one, the humor hits, and the author commits fully to the chaotic, twisted tone without ever half-stepping.
This was a dark, entertaining, and memorable read with a strong voice and a lot of personality. If you enjoy twisted humor, morally gray characters, and short dark romance that doesn't apologize for itself, this one is absolutely worth picking up-just don't skip those trigger warnings.
“Sugar and spice and everything nice, that was what little girls are made of…”. That is the first line of the book and it hooked me from the beginning. The story is about Charlee the cannibal and Jack the burglar. He breaks into her house and that’s when the fun begins. He definitely broke into the wrong girl’s house. Thinking it would be an easy burglary turns into something he never expected. I absolutely love Charlee, she’s so unapologetically unhinged at times that even Jack doesn’t dare to cross her. She definitely puts the “fun” in funeral. Jack is completely different, but I guess opposites DO attract.
I give this book 5 stars. It was a fun and quick read. I loved the chemistry between Jack and Charlee. Because it was a short novella things progressed pretty fast in the book, but it still didn’t feel too rushed for me. From start to finish I couldn’t stop laughing at the back and forth banter between them. So even though it’s a DARK romcom, it was pretty much on the light side for me. Sure she eats human meat, but she does it in a fun and playful way. Overall I really enjoyed the novella, the only downside was that it wasn’t longer. I would have loved to read more about Jack and Charlee.
What happens when you break into a serial killer’s home to rob them? You stop being the predator and start being the appetizer. Jack wasn’t expecting a pan-wielding, cannibalistic serial killer. Instead, he learned the hard way that he’d bitten off way more than he could chew. Charlee, after all, is an acquired taste.
Charlee commands this book with her larger than life personality and even bigger hair, because, as we all know, “the higher the hair, the closer to God.” She’s a woman who takes what she wants, quite literally. One look in her fridge will tell you exactly what—and who—is on the menu.
Jack is a so-so burglar who is basically just along for the ride. Because, once you’re caught in Charlee’s orbit, there is no way out—at least, not one that’s particularly palatable. Being trussed up in a chair and "taken advantage of" wasn’t the main course he expected. Even knowing her specific flavor of crazy, Jack can’t resist a second helping. Charlee’s penchant for sexual favors certainly helps sweeten the deal, too.
You'll devour this snack of a book. Just check the menu before you sit down—you might be the main course.
Eat Your Heart Out is wild, unapologetic, and darkly funny in a way that immediately lets you know exactly what kind of ride you're on. Southern, morally unbothered, and absolutely entertaining. From page one, the humor hits, and the author commits fully to the chaotic, twisted tone without ever half-stepping.
I loved how bold and confident this novella was. It knows it's unhinged and leans into it hard, which made it incredibly fun to read. The banter, the attitude, and the sheer audacity of the premise worked really well, and for a short standalone, it delivered a satisfying, complete story with a proper HEA.
That said, a few small things kept it from being a five-star read for me. Some moments felt a bit rushed (likely due to the novella length), and I found myself wishing certain scenes-or emotional beats-had just a little more room to breathe.
Overall, this was a dark, entertaining, and memorable read with a strong voice and a lot of personality. If you enjoy twisted humor, morally gray characters, and short dark romance that doesn't apologize for itself, this one is absolutely worth picking up-just don't skip those trigger warnings.
These 2 had my stomach hurting from laughing so much!! Their banter 🤌🏼🤌🏼 Charlee is the exact opposite of what you would think she would be if you just looked at her... But you know what they say, "Dont judge a book by its cover." 🤣🤣🤣 and boy that couldn't be more true for this Dolly Parton look alike 🤣☠️. Jack Dawson, yes thats his name his mama loved Leo 🤣, boy did he pick the wrong house to try and rob. Well I guess it was the right house in the end. Might very been the hit over the head with the frying pan though. But his mama raised him to respect women so he wasnt there for what youre thinking. But Charlee the man hater boy does she have some crazy thoughts. And the things she does to him, ok I see how he could like it... I mean everyone loves a crazy girl in bed 🤣🤣. These 2 are like yin and yang opposites attract. But hey keep eachother somewhat on the straight and narrow ☠️🤣i absolutely loved this book i just wish it was longer. I want to know what happened at the end with that meat, I mean meet 🤣🥩sorry I couldnt help myself. Need a belly aching laughing fit? This book is it. Its spicy, hilarious, and chalked full of meat!! Choke that rooster Charlee!! 🐓
OH Sybil. I could read everything of yours and never get tired of the way you write the most messed up, yet lovable characters.
This was a very nice change with the FMC being our antiheroine and unhinged protagonist while the MMC was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Charlee is WILD and I love her for it. I wish I had her confidence lol the bonus chapter was perfection when it came to explaining why she is the way she is and while it wasn't necessary, it was very appreciated.
Now Jack, oh Jack. I loved how he just kinda accepted whatever was going on and even struggled with everything. We're so used to seeing the roles reversed that it was refreshing. I am so glad this was a HEA and that our MMCs got a HEA! Heed the trigger warnings and not just cause the content might be triggering, but it was HILARIOUS to try and point them all out throughout the story.
I have the same complaint though at the end of Sybil's novellas... GIVE ME MORE, you freaking talented author. JK. I love you, please do what makes you happy lol
Overall: 4.5/5 (rounded up for Goodreads cause i love SK) Plot: 5/5 Characters: 4/5 Spice: 4/5
Listen, I wasn’t expecting to root for a serial killer cannibal in a rom-com, but here we are. Eat Your Heart Out by Sybil Knight is what happens when a Hallmark movie goes on a date with Hannibal Lecter and somehow ends up cute.
Our girl Charlee (yes, with two E’s—don’t question her, she eats people) is possibly my favorite chaos demon in fiction right now. She’s snarky, weirdly self-aware, and somehow manages to make “I tied a man to a chair and now we’re dating” feel like a quirky meet-cute. The male lead breaks into her house to rob her (as one does), and instead of calling the cops, she ties him up and calls his mom. Off-page, tragically because that phone call? Would have been Oscar-worthy.
The pacing is tight (like his restraints), and the novella format makes this an easy, bite-sized read—pun 100% intended. Think Captured but less trauma-dump and more sitcom murder energy.
A twisted little Valentine of a book that made me laugh way more than it had any right to. 3.75 stars—I don’t know what that says about me and frankly I don’t want to know.
This book is a dark and weird, twisted rom com about Charlee, a Southern woman with a very unique hobby, she eats men. Literally. When Jack, a burglar, breaks into her apartment, he quickly learns Charlee isn’t your average damsel in distress. Instead of calling the cops, she ties him up, serves him a questionable sandwich, and drags him into her world of cannibalism, chaos, and surprisingly hot chemistry. What starts as a hostage situation turns into a darkly hilarious, surprisingly sweet romance as Jack finds himself falling for the unhinged woman who kidnapped him. But can love survive when your girlfriend’s idea of a home cooked meal is… literally home cooked? This dark rom-com is fast paced with plenty of laughing out loud moments. If cannibalism is one of your triggers I would say, don't read it, but otherwise do indulge in the gory and sexyness of this book. I love how Charlee's backstory is included in the book even while the book is a short one. It really adds depth to her chaos. A little more angst or internal conflict on Jack's side would have done the story good, the HEA felt a little bit to neat, but it was fun either way.
I honestly don't remember the last time I laughed this much while reading. This was just so much fun 🤣
Charlee is our FMC who likes to consume not so great men. (Yea you read it right) And Jack our MMC.. well he broke into the wrong house. Tisk tisk.
The dark humor mixed with cannibalism with the banter was just top tier. This was definitely wild and totally out there. Between cracking up and saying WTF every few min it was just a crazy ride (but a good crazy)
This novella is a lovely delicious fast read. I enjoyed the puns, banter, and their chemistry. They fit so well together 🖤 this whole thing just worked. I loved it.
Definitely don't go into this overthinking it. It's unhinged (in the best way) and just funny. (I have a dark sense of humor) As much as I appreciated the quick just roll with it read I wanted more of them! They were great 🤣
If dark romance had a twisted sense of humor and a well-stocked refrigerator… it would be Eat Your Heart Out. 🖤😈
Meet Charlee, a cannibalistic vigilante FMC with big hair, questionable morals, and absolutely zero tolerance for men who don’t play nice with their toys. Let’s just say her fridge tells a very incriminating story.
Enter Jack Dawson, who breaks into the wrong apartment… one frying pan later he wakes up tied to a chair with a killer sense of humor in high heels staring back at him. This is when the chaos (and chemistry) really kicks off.
Sybil Knight delivers exactly what I’ve come to expect—dark, witty, and just the right amount of unhinged.
Favorite lines? Charlee: “Officer Bradley was thicker than a tick on a lake leech.” Jack: “Your girlfriend being a serial killer was one thing, but a serial-killing man-eater was a-whole-nother.”
My personal opinion and review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 w/some spice!
I am absolutely a huge fan is Sybil! This story was a cute, fun and as the author said “ridiculous “ short story all rolled into one with a side of humor!
Charlee is a female serial killer/ cannibal, but not just to anyone, just men. Men that are deserving. When jack shows up uninvited, you won’t believe what happens with these two….Two very f’cked up people in such different ways that the universe just pulled together. 😂
“Cause all that bruisin’s bad for the meat, honey.”
“Wrangling myself a rooster”
“mama had taught me that the higher the hair, the closer to God we’d be”
“Then I was climbing him faster than sin on a preacher”
Serial killer Cannibalism Death and murder Overuse of southern euphemisms (she wasn’t lying) Plus many more…. Make sure to check all of the trigger warnings before reading if you are bothered by any.
This was such an interesting read and not at all like the books I usually pick up. The story follows Charlee and Jack, a serial killer who loves to eat men and a guy who faints and has to question his type in girls.
The story is short but it hits all the good points and doesn’t feel rushed. I also love the difference in the trigger warnings. One moment you're disturbed and the next the trigger warning is about how much southern language is used in the book. Like how are you making me laugh after reading about cannibalism?
Speaking of that, ew. It was so interesting to read about but I cannot imagine. It's so disturbing and almost comical how chill Charlee is about it.
I would've loved to see more of Charlee’s messed-up mind but I'm satisfied with what we got. At times I was confused, mainly because I have never read anything remotely southern but it added a lot of character to the story.
The smut was a bit fast-paced but considering it is a short story, it makes sense.
This was a quick but original read that I will definitely think about once in a while, aka every time my mom makes stew meat.
