unCONventional by Isaac Sher is a MFFF polyamorous gay romance set against the backdrop of a sci-fi fantasy convention, specifically an Anime Horde in the Midwest. The story is a love tale with plenty of affection to go around. It is fun and explores open relationships, emotional discoveries, and the highs and lows of sharing an unconventional love.
This was my first time reading a work by Isaac, and I was pleasantly surprised by his writing style. While polyamorous romance is not usually my go-to genre, I do enjoy various forms of reverse harem stories, so this wasn't too far off, just featuring more female characters.
The narrative is presented from the points of view of all the characters—Iris, Felix, Michelle, and Rachel—though it mainly focuses on Iris and Felix. I appreciated getting to know everyone's thoughts, as it provides a better understanding of their personalities. Isaac’s characterization makes them feel real.
Will they be able to sustain a relationship with so many people involved without getting hurt? To find out, you will have to grab a copy!
