They are thrust into uncharted territory, risking their friendship as they navigate their newly revealed feelings.
Their relationship is soon tested when secrets come to light, and Inès struggles with unwanted attention from Nathan. Can their love survive, or will they lose each other forever?
Saffron Brooks writes contemporary romance full of heart, hope, and the kind of love stories that linger. A lifelong daydreamer who finally decided to put pen to paper, she’s all about crafting swoony plots, heartfelt moments, and characters who feel real; flaws, feelings, and all. In every story, you’ll find a world that reflects the one we live in: beautifully diverse, rich with different cultures, and always brimming with love in all its forms. And if you notice a little French sprinkled in, consider it her signature. When she’s not writing, Saffron’s probably spending time with her family, planning her next getaway, or getting lost in a book that makes her laugh, cry, and blush (preferably all at once). She believes the best stories are the ones that make you feel, and she’s just getting started writing hers.
3.5/5 This was a fun read! The ending really had me on the edge of my seat because I didn’t know where the story was going but it was a wild fun ride! Having the mmc call the fmc a slut and a whore in the bedroom was a little out of pocket hahaha but you could definitely see the love they had for each other throughout the book! Will definitely read more from this author in the future!
Loving Queen is centered around Inès and Kingsley, two friends who have crushed on each other from afar. When Inés gets tired of waiting for Kingsley to notice her the way she wants, she agrees to go on a date with another man and Kingsley leaps into action quick and in a hurry!
There is a lot of drama in this book LOL I was living! I did not expect that level of mess for such a cute cover. On the flip side, one of the things I loved most was the found family aspect—Kingsley and Inés' best friends are a couple, and the way they're all intertwined was adorable. I hope to see their love story next! I also enjoyed reading about Inés being a French Black woman, it's always nice to read about Black people from other countries than America (even though this takes place in America).
Kingsley was super attentive to Inés' wants and needs once he decided he wouldn't miss his opportunity with her, even going so far as to help her monitor her diabetes—I loved that representation and the depiction of someone showing love through attentiveness and care. He was a billionaire who insisted she spend his money, and she was a gem who she donated a couple million of it on a whim! I'm also finding that I really love books where the pets are written in a prominent way and Beau was such a good boy!
I found the last third of the book to be a bit off the rails. Kingsley was somewhat entitled and he didn't do enough groveling when it came to making Inés feel unseen by him until she pursed someone else. To be honest, I didn't like him for a large portion of the book. Also, for whatever reason, the domestic discipline dynamic didn't work for me. I really can't put my finger on it because I'm not at all against reading books with BDSM elements, but between Inés being young, the power imbalance between them, and him being white and her Black, it just didn't quite hit for me, no pun intended. The Nathan storyline was a bit nuts but man...the way I don't even feel like it's unrealistic in these times!
Looking forward to reading more from Saffron Brooks in the future—I overall really enjoyed this book and the writing!
Thank you to Grey's Promotions and Saffron Brooks for sending me an ARC!
Thank you to Greys Promotions for the ARC of this book! I'm honoredddd!
WHATTTTTTT???? I loved this so muchhhh!! I mean the writing, the drama the flow of the story and the tension of the romance? I legit binged this entire book last night and stayed up until almost 2:45am LOCKED INNNN. And yall i dont miss out on sleep often for books I won't lie- usually I fall asleep reading them (I'm an eepy gal what can i say)
First of all, Ines? I loved her. I really did. I related to her so much with how serious she was about school, and her worries and how important learning was to her. I loved how she stayed true to herself, and never let her dreams waver for the man. She stood ten toes down for what she wanted in life, and her timeline which i loveddd. I live for a FMC who stands ten toes down for herself.
Speaking of a man, Kingsley. The part with the bonnet? How he took care of her? Keeping stuff in all his cars just in case for her? BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. Wow. I mean. Top white man MMC I've read FORREAL. Like okay sir! I was unfamiliar with your game!! I absolutely loved them together and just the romance overall? Ugh my hearttttt.
EYEEEEE NEEED TO KNOWWWWW about Atticus and Josie though. OMg? Like? What is tea??? I need a prologue story or their story or SOMETHING. Like i'd give my left arm for that book and im left handed. Like it genuinely had me gagged i gasped out loud. I thouht there was about to be a NAESTYYYY plot twist but I'm kinda glad there wasn't cause that would've taken me outtttt and overshadowed the book haha. But yeah Imma need a lil novella of their love story or sum. I loved that Atticus was willing to hear his son out too.
The other part that got me was when they were all at the dinner table and spilled Ines' tea. I legit was like NOOOOOOOOOO in my empty ass bedroom shook. Yall when i tell yall i really wholeheartedly enjoyed this DOWN.
Like I have no notes and I will have my eyes PEEEEEELED for book two. I gobbled this up lmaooooo. Highly recommend if you want a book to giggle and kick your feet to, as well as some spicy as hail boyyyyyyyy I had to remember to breathe a couple times WHEWWWW CHILE! Yeah this was bomb fr.
This was such a cute story! I love how sweet Inés is, but she's also strong when it matters. Having both qualities made her such an interesting read. And King.... babyyyyyy, you can't convince me he wasn't made for Inés lmaoo. That man quite literally worships the ground she walks on and I love to see it!! He's very much a cinnamon roll mmc, super sweet/romantic, super thoughtful and caring, and always understands what Inés needs.
& the spice was spicinggggg baby so if that ain't your cup of tea, beware. Saffron did place a list of chapters with spice scenes at the beginning tho so if erotica is your thing you can skip to those, and if not, you can skip over them. Which was super thoughtful and beneficial 🤎 I loveddddd Meghan downnn!! She was such a funny side character, I would for sure love to see like a prequel or something about her and Justin. But overall, super good read. I very much enjoyed it. Can't wait until the book releases so I can get a physical copy 🥳
Thank you so much Saffron for the e-ARC! I loved it so much!
Thank you Saffron Brooks and Grey's Promotions for the e-ARC!
When I first came across this book, it didn’t even have a blurb or a cover yet — just vibes. And honestly? That was enough to grab my attention. Small confession: this is my very first ARC, and I was beyond excited to dive in. At the same time, I was nervous because my expectations were already sky-high (bad habit, I know 😅).
But I had nothing to worry about. Saffron promised and delivered.
Inés was such a satisfying character to read. She’s sweet and kind, but never a pushover — she stands her ground when it matters. Those qualities, often overlooked, end up giving her so much strength on the page.
And King… belongs to Inés. Period. 😂 He’s exactly the reason I read romance: caring, understanding, and absolutely devoted to her. He sets the bar high.
What I also loved is how well the book balances its moods. The romantic moments are soft and swoony, the funny ones add just the right amount of lightness, and the tense scenes keep you on edge without ever dragging the story down. That mix made the reading experience feel dynamic and kept me turning pages without realizing how much time had passed.
This book is perfect if you want to escape into Delulu land, comfort your heart, and feel completely seen.
✨ The spice? On point. ✨ The side characters? Also amazing. I know Meghan and Justin are already established, but honestly, I’d happily read a no-conflict slice-of-life book about them just being happy. ✨ Bonus joy: chapter titles! I smiled the second I saw them.
Overall, this was such a comforting, heartwarming, and swoony read — the perfect first ARC experience. 💜
I was really excited for this book, all the tropes together sounded heavenly but I just found that it lacked a lot of substance. It felt like going through and ticking off a checklist of tropes and events and then moving on. I kept hoping it would get better and I had so much hope but I was just really bored.
I did however really enjoy all the different representation opportunities that Ines had to offer. The diabetes representation was something I hadn’t seen before and I found it really interesting to see the realities of someone with diabetes. I also loved the scenes and conversations around Ines’ hair care. There aren’t enough FMC’s with diverse hair types and I really loved this diversity
I’m still uneasy with not knowing kings dating or dd history. He mentions liking brats so that hints at it but it would have put me ease to know.
I guess my biggest pet peeve is he definitely put her on a shelf like a trophy or doll until she showed interest in not waiting around. This is where the above issue of dating history comes into play because nothing I hate more than a love confessions of from the moment I saw you blah blah blah but then go and date other People. The freshman year made sense since she was 17. But he was seen dating other people enough for ines to know she wasn’t the typical type of girl he goes for??? So while she is on the shelf and king warned people from asking her out (tutoring scene mentioned this) he was in dd type relationships with others? Unknown but implied at least. Make it make sense… how I would come for him for that. That gives me the ick
The two million dollar punishment was laughable and for the above mentioned issues the apology was a tad hollow and was only semi called out for it.
He definitely was all in once they started so that is the only reason I still gave 4 stars but the Nathan storyline almost made this a 3. He could have been the mmc in another book universe cuz he went after what he wanted lol
The spice was good but repetitive

This a ARC review however you better believe I’m gonna pick up a physical copy so I crack that spine and spread those pages like a good girl lol.
I love a book that jumps right into the plot. We meet Ines our FMC and our introduce to her awkward relationship with Kingsley our MC and her best friend.
Just running through Tropes: 📕friends to lovers 📕billionaire 📕virgin FMC 📕diabetic Rep 📕DD 📕 He falls first… and hard
The pacing of this book is perfect the villain is chef kiss, you kinda see it coming but again pacing matters. I love how the author shows how book smarts and street smarts are not the same thing however… Girl Trust Your Gut.

I absolutely loved this book to the fullest! I didn’t want it to end! First of all thank you for showcasing diabetes awareness. As a type 2, I felt connected to Inès from the start. Even as her being type 1, we experienced similar issues. I sometimes forget to eat too. I love how her friends were so supportive and there for her.
This friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupe! This was such a cute story. I love how attentive, thoughtful, sweet Kingsley was towards Ines. He was made for her. She was made for him. The romance was so amazing and right on point! The spice was so spicy!!!!
Kingsley whole domestic dominating was interesting for sure. I came to realize that is just his demeanor. If Inès love it then I love it for her.
I adore their best friend Meghan and Justin. I love this group.
Thank you for the arc! I truly enjoyed this book!

I read the book and ran straight to the author's site to preorder it. You know a book is good when it makes you feel something and this one made me feel so many emotions. Chapter 9, a chapter that is focused primarily on him helping take care of her health problems, still has a chokehold on me. We all deserve someone that is that observant and concerned for our wellbeing whether we have a chronic illness or not.
I did appreciate the spice map. In my opinion it should be a requirement in every adult book for those of use who just want the story or just want the spice. I didn't think I was going to use it but it came in handy. I'm not a fan of the whole domestic discipline thing. It kinda put me into fight or flight so being able to know which chapters were heavily focused on it helped a lot because I still really wanted to finish the book. Personally I prefer my fiction men to be a bit more pitiful.
Loving Queen is a heartfelt and addictive start to The Heart Lies Series.
Inès Dubois has always had a plan, but her heart has other ideas especially when it comes to Kingsley Ashford, her longtime friend and secret crush. Their slow-burn tension had me hooked, and I loved the messy, real emotions that came to the surface when Nathan Salvatore entered the picture.
Kingsley’s confession, Inès’ struggle to move forward, and the secrets that threaten to unravel it all created a romance that felt raw, passionate, and worth every page. Saffron Brooks weaves angst, love, and vulnerability together beautifully.
If you love friends-to-lovers with intensity, secrets, and undeniable chemistry, this book is for you. I cannot wait for the next installment!
What!?!? This book was Amazing! I should have know I was going to like it just on the dedication and the spicy chapters list Alone!
I enjoyed this book so much that I will DEFINITELY be adding this to my reread pile! Thanks Saffron for such a good book, with interesting characters, depth, and some good spice!
I love a good friends to lovers story especially with a bit of angst. Inès and Kingsley were great characters. The love they had for each other was felt throughout the whole book. The character and world building were very good .
I WANTED IT TO BE LONGER!!! This was the perfect romance to pull me out of a reading slump! I fell completely for King... sorry Ines! Their story had me smiling, crying, and fully invested from start to finish. Some characters had me fuming, but Meghan and Beau made everything better. We all need a best friend like Meghan and a companion like Beau. I just loved everything about this book. I didn’t want it to end! Thank you for the opportunity to be an ARC reader!
I feel like this can only be described and sweet and spicy. I love Ines and Kings love. Enjoyed every dynamic whether it was their families or friends. Communication and consent remain key and I love the way both were written. Please let a love like Kingsley Ashford find me cause 10 out of 10!
3.75 stars Thank you Greys Promotions and Saffron Brooks for the ARC copy of this book. This romantic contemporary book was enjoyable. It was both parts swoon worthy as well as full on spicey. The book focuses on the developing relationship between Ines and Kingsley, which started out as friendship. I enjoyed the character development and the testing of the trust they have for each other. The plot was a bit predictable, but overall a good quick read.

I'm grateful to have been chosen to receive an ARC of Loving Queen and I must say I did not regret adding this book to my TBR list! I loved how the plot started. The romance? Amazing. Spice? On top. And overall, we have a new book boyfriend! All love languages in one man. And Ines was such a wonderful FMC and badass. I saw the plot twist in this book coming from a mile away but I loved how it unraveled, especially at the end. I look forward to reading more books by Saffron!
This book was amazing I couldn’t stop reading I kept falling in love with them the characters and plot was so good I was on edge my seat one of the best I’ve read this year
I kneel to Saffron Brooks for a masterpiece she created! No I am not exaggerating! Honest to gods I was not going into this book to fall in love completely with it. I figured I would enjoy it but not actually make me cry because it ended. Saffron, I must say I am SO HAPPY my best friend sent me an Instagram post of this book. I want to attempt to make this review with minimal spoilers but I am currently struggling to think on what I can say without spoiling it all!
First off, a little mention on the Domestic Discipline since when you type it into Google, there are many things that say it is a controversial lifestyle. I personally have not been in one but I have been in a full time D/s relationship, which have some similarities. Yes, under the wrong hands, a relationship that calls for one person to be “under” the other can become dangerous. BUT Saffron did it beautifully between Ines and Kingsley. And the rules he set between them technically should be givens in ANY relationship, vanilla or otherwise. Yes I did get fussy that both of them technically broke the rules, but I loved the way they handled those moments, especially Inès! Remember folks CONSENT AND COMMUNICATION IS KEY!
Speaking of Inès, may I applaud the creation of this character! I LOVE that Inès always put her goals first even while being with Kingsley. Girl was on point! I cheered when she gave Kingsley that 5 year mark (if you wanna know what I’m talking about go read!) The growth she had throughout this book had me cheering on for her every step of the way! And Kingsley, talk about falling for a fictional man. I mean green light GO! His attention to detail when it came to his Queen! And everything he did to show her how much he loved her and would fight for her! I’m telling you, if you enjoy possessive but understanding men, Kingsley is your guy! So cute how he even made everyone stop calling him King so only Inès would call him that, I was gushing from the cuteness! HE EVEN HAD BONNETS FOR HER WITHOUT HER ASKING FOR THEM!!
Yes, I even loved the background characters and their support for the couple. Of course, one character was our villain, Nathan (ewwww we hate Nathan in this house!), but what I enjoy that Saffron did is throughout the time reading, you got to really enjoy Inès and Kingsley. So when Nathan came along, it would be sort of a surprise. Like you know he is a thing, but he is kept in the background to jump out when you feel things are going great!
And the spice! OMG the SPICE! Saffron came COOKING with those spice scenes, which I must make note that it's awesome that not only do we get a Spotify link to the book playlist, but we also get a list of chapters where there are spicy scenes just in case a reader would rather skip those scenes! Obviously I am here for the story and spice, but honestly this is a wonderful add on because I did skip two spice scenes (I did go back to read them afterwards!) just to get a vibe without them, and you can still easily get into the story so snap to that!
I can gush more on this book but if I do I land in serious spoiler territory and I would rather folks go and enjoy the story themselves rather than have me ruin all the goods! And yes there is more than Nathan going on, but go! Go read this beautifully done story and I cannot wait for Saffron’s next release!
This was such a cute book, honestly! I sped through it in under 24 hours and it had that instant likability factor. I knew I'd enjoy it from the first page. However, despite it having a strong start, I feel like my excitement about the book plateaued by halfway through and I grew bored towards the end. I know that this was meant to be a lighthearted romance for the most part, but I feel like the subplot involving the "other man' would have been more impactful and made the book more interesting if it was more dramatized and made a more major aspect of the plot as opposed to passively occurring in the background. The thing that frustrated me the most was the seeming mischaracterization of the two main characters. The male lead was held to such a high standard of honorability, but I feel like he held a little bit of hypocrisy. As for the female lead, she was painted as this genius and maybe it makes sense because she was a math/science genius and my critiques are more on her common sense and general logic, which maybe isn't her expertise, but I feel like she just didn't represent what she was meant to be described as. I also feel like so much of the writing was tell tell tell and very little show. The beginning of the book progressed so quickly, the middle plateaued, and the ending was very rushed and I think that all could have been solved by making this more of a slow burn (which, contrary to marketing, was not at all). All critiques aside though, I can't deny that I really enjoyed this book and would still read another book by this author. I love the French speaking moments in the book (as a former French language student I was super fond of this addition). I also love the moments of friendship between the main and supporting characters. As well as the friendship between the two romantic leads. I feel like few authors truly nail friends to lovers well and I think Saffron Brooks genuinely did an amazing job making you feel that the two characters had feelings for each other, but also cared about each other as friends first and foremost. Inès was such a sweet and soft character and it was so easy to root for her right away. As for Kingsley, I fell in love with him instantly. I love how sweet and caring he was to our girl (no spoilers, but it's the little things!! If he wanted to he would personified!!). The chemistry between the two was strongly felt and their romance was so wholesome, but the spicy moments were definitely spicing! This is the perfect book for someone looking for a lighthearted, low-stakes, contemporary romance with a sprinkle of thrill and a healthy dose of spice, and over 300 pages of a Black queen getting loved and worshipped!!
Loving Queen by Saffron Brooks appears to be this author’s debut as a writer! This book is the first in her series, The Heart Lies. The story is interesting, intense and sweetly-angsty involving an eclectic and multicultural group of beautifully brilliant young people. Our two main characters are hiding secrets and that always makes me anxious as I am reading so I took a break and then finished the story (whew!). Bright Ines is an early-entry university student, she lives with her much more outgoing and slightly older best friend, Meghan. Meghan’s boyfriend is often in their orbit, long with HIS best friend Kingsley. When the story starts, Kingsley has already graduated and he is a legacy student…his family founded the university, so you can’t get more legacy than that 😊. For two years, Kingsley and Ines have danced around their feelings but of course he doesn’t act or speak up until Ines goes on a dance with a handsome older man. As I noted, Kingsley and Ines are harboring secrets; his family’s expectations for his future “consort” and the identity of Ines’ one date. Readers know but Kingsley doesn’t know who she went out with UNTIL he does (cue music)😊. Ms. Brooks gives readers a refreshingly unique look at young love, and we take the heated ride from friendship, secret feelings to open dating. Along the way, elements of unease and unexpected complications persist. Does Ines have a stalker and why is Kingsley’s mother so relentlessly rude? Great story and I look forward to the next episode in the series. (Hint) I would like to note that Atticus (Kingsley’s father) had a compelling side story with Josephine, I would love, love, love to read a “later” in life story featuring them; they were fire together.
Favorite Lines “I’m so happy for you two! See, King, finally asking her out is very demure, very cutesy, very mindful,” she says
The way he cares for me, for my well-being, is so endearing it almost brings tears to my eyes.
“Say you’ll be my girlfriend, Queen. I need to hear you say you’ll be mine.”
You’re like a little sister to me, and I need you to know I’m here to hold him accountable.”
“What’s the point of giving birth if your child chooses another woman to be his mother?”
“You are my breath, my fever, my fire.”
You don’t just rule my heart, you own it.
And his morals won’t allow him to marry someone he doesn’t love. That’s something you do.”
How did we even get here? I trusted him. I chose to trust him.
This book SERVEDDDDD! There are a lot of things happening and I could not put this book down. I enjoyed every last bit of it like it was the last book I would ever read. The characters, the suspense, the friendship, the billionaire life. Yes! I did not want to put this book down. I was in a reading slump before reading this book and it took me right out.
I loved Ines. She’s so amazing. She just warmed my heart so much as a character. Her and her doggo Beau. I felt like she was a very relatable character, and I really loved seeing her try new things in life. I think King really brought out that side of her. She didn’t give in too easily, which I think speaks volumes to her development. She definitely found herself in alot of ways, and I liked that the author showed her progress over time.
The diabetes representation was really eye opening. Watching her navigate it made me think a lot about what that experience means for people. Having to do those procedures and not like it made so much sense. So king helping her with it made my heart warm.
I love Ines and Megs friendship. When she finds out about being pregnant her support is so beautiful. I felt like they always supported each other. I love when books have genuine friendships.
The professor situation rubbed me the wrong way from day one. I LITERALLY CALLED IT! I don’t care how many meet cutes I read, he was not it !! I knew when he asked her to go back to his place on the date that he was a creep! But he did play it cool. And when he kissed her in the office….I said this man is bad. But I will say this subplot had me on the edge of my seat. I was locked in from the minute she found out he was her professor.
KINGSLEY….THAT MAN. OHHHHH he is so filthy. I mean the way he would talk to her had me like 🫠🫠🫠🫠. I had to put my kindle down multiple times. The plane scene, the sneaking into her room scene. SWEET GOODNESS. Him being rich just made him even hotter. Him being down bad for her….SOLD! He loved that girl like it was his life’s passage.
I truly adored these two, and the book! Thank you Saffron and Grey’s Promotion for letting me read this story! I abosolutely loved every minute of it.
When I started this book, all I could think was YES YES YES. It was RIVETING. It definitely exceeded my expectations. The tropes did their thing and the spice was spice-inggggg🤭❤️🔥. I loved reading this book. The emotions I went through with Inés were so intense and raw. And yes I said with her because look the writing style was so captivating I was experiencing everything with her. Cuz we’re both just girls🎀. AND I LOVE THAT THERE WAS THE MALE POV. Kingsley was truly a MAN. I speak for all the Queens when I say we need a King in our lives. As a black woman, I could not stop fangirling when I saw he bought bonnets and kept at his place for her. A BONNET?😍 The attentiveness and care that he showed Inés was so attractive. His aura just exuded dominance and selflessness. HE’S A GOOD MAN SAVANNAH. New book boyfriend unlocked💕.
I came across the promos for Loving Queen in June of this year and immediately told myself I had to read this book. I signed up to do an ARC review not even fully knowing what one was. I am very glad that Loving Queen was my first of many to come. I did not want to put this book down. Hooked does not even begin to describe how I was with this book. The passion, the detail, the suspense, the attention. OMG this book was everythingggg I wish I could read it for the first time again. The connection between Inés and King was undeniable. Saffron Brooks...you promised, delivered and did not disappoint I can't wait to read whatever comes next💯
Thank you so much Saffron Brooks and Grey’s Promotion for the opportunity to do this ARC.

✨ARC Book Review✨ Book: Loving Queen Author: @author_saffron
Besties… I need everyone to stop what you’re doing and go READ Loving Queen IMMEDIATELY. 💕👑
This book was everything. A total 10/10. I loved every second of it. If I could wipe my memory and experience this story for the first time all over again, I would in a heartbeat.
✨ Tropes that had me screaming, kicking, giggling, and feral: 💎 Billionaire romance 💎 Friends to lovers 💎 He fell first (and he fell HARD) 💎 Alpha MMC obsessed with his queen 💎 Virgin heroine 💎 Found family 💎 Forced proximity + just enough domestic discipline 👀
Now let’s talk about KING. Kingsley Ashford is truly chef’s kiss. A man who is powerful and in control in every part of his life… except when it comes to his girl. He’s obsessed, devoted, and drops to his knees (literally 👏🏾) to please her. The way he cared for Inès physically, mentally, and emotionally especially with her health/ diabetes was so beautiful I was swooning nonstop. And the spice?? Oh babes, the spice is SPICY. 🌶️ Consider a new kink unlocked with every chapter.
And it’s not just the main couple, these side characters?? Perfection. They add so much depth, humor, and heart. King’s dad and Josie absolutely stole the show. I’m begging for their book next because the tension had me on the FLOOR.
What really makes this book special though is how much love pours out of it. King would literally give Inès the world and stop at nothing to make sure she is happy and healthy. Their dynamic (plus their adorable dog 🐶) made my heart melt. This is so much more than a sweet little college romance, baby it has EVERYTHING you need and more.
I devoured this story and I’m already planning my reread. If you’re looking for your next romance obsession, Loving Queen is IT. 👑✨
Saffron Brooks doesn’t waste a second — we’re dropped straight into Inès’ world, and it’s full of heart, humor, and heat. Her writing is vibrant and warm, balancing chaos with care, and there’s no shortage of intensity. The pacing was perfect — enough tension to make me scream into my pillow but never slow enough to drag. I finished this one in 24 hours because I simply couldn’t put it down.
Inès is a diabetic sweetheart with a spine of steel — smart, funny, and endlessly lovable. Kingsley? The definition of he fell first, he fell hardest. The way he sees her, protects her, and still respects her independence had me melting. Together, they’re perfection: tender chaos wrapped in devotion. Their connection builds with that irresistible will they / won’t they energy that keeps you hooked until the explosive, emotional payoff.
The friendships in this story add so much warmth and balance. Megan is the ultimate ride-or-die bestie, and her man staying loyal to Kingsley? Iconic. Every side character feels real and grounded, adding depth to the romance and giving the story a community you can’t help but love.
What truly sets Loving Queen apart is how the romance and plot intertwine. It isn’t just about love — it’s about life, and the challenges that come with vulnerability, illness, and trust. The book explores care as a love language, the strength it takes to heal, and how honesty transforms relationships.
This story knows when to ache and when to laugh. It balances spice, heart, and chaos in a way that feels completely effortless. A romance that’s tender, kinky, and full of heart — the kind that makes you smile, sigh, and text your best friend about the MMC at 3AM.
ARC REVIEW! Thank you Saffron Brooks and Grey PR promotions for sending me an arc!
This was a fun time and I enjoyed myself while reading it. I would definitely check trigger warnings because there are a few heavy topics and themes discussed in great detail throughout the story. While I enjoyed myself I also wasn't very emotionally or just in general attached to the characters. It's definitely insta lovey but the way the story is set up it makes sense why it's that and it works really well, I personally just am not a huge fan of that trope. There are quite a few spice scenes and certain sexual preferences are discussed.
I loved the side characters and the found family. The friendship and family dynamics were well thought out and portrayed very well. I enjoyed Saffron Brooks writing style, and the book was very cute and had me smiling and giggling at times. It's not for everyone, but I would recommend if you're looking for something with romance but a pretty interesting plot and side plot.
With that being said, I overall thought the idea and plot was good, but at one point I did guess what was going on to happen as far as the major plot twists. I will say I didn't guess them exactly to a T though and one had my jaw on the floor. There's a side plot that is happening throughout the story and I feel like it could've been detailed a little more because it finally did come to a head I felt as though I was reading completely different book than the one I was reading for 80% of the book. Again I didn't dislike the book, and will be continuing the series, but I feel as though it wasn't as cohesive as I would've like it to be.
This story hooked me right from the start because of how relatable Inès is. She’s the kind of character you root for—focused, disciplined, with her whole life mapped out, yet still vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. Her long-time crush on Kingsley felt so authentic, especially the frustration of being stuck in the friend zone while trying to convince yourself to move on.
Kingsley, on the other hand, was both infuriating and endearing. His need for control and his inability to admit his feelings made me want to shake him at times, but when his jealousy and fear of losing Inès finally broke through, it was impossible not to feel for him. Their chemistry felt undeniable once they crossed that line from friendship to something deeper.
What I especially enjoyed was the tension Nathan Salvatore added to the story. He wasn’t just a throwaway obstacle—his presence forced both Inès and Kingsley to confront the truth about what they wanted and what they were willing to fight for. The “unwanted attention” angle also brought an extra layer of conflict that raised the stakes.
At its core, this book is about timing, vulnerability, and the risks of turning friendship into romance. It asks the question we’ve all thought at some point: what if the person you’ve wanted all along finally admits they want you too?
The pacing was engaging, and the emotional pull between Inès and Kingsley felt genuine. If you enjoy slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romances with a dash of jealousy, secrets, and drama, this book will definitely keep you turning the pages.
