What a cute and cozy Christmas read in Scotland! Witty banter is always expected from the Scots! And nothing like a rare blizzard in Scotland to trap two people in a cabin to have them caving in to their desires! Definitely got a small town feel during Christmas from this with all the local activities and holiday festival! They even had my most prized highland cows! What a dream to go to Scotland during Christmas! But I will take traveling there in my head for now! Definitely recommend!
Maisie , I fell in love with her almost instantly. West and her together were a hoot. And her best friend Sophie and Lachlan was her best friend's fiancee. The wish that Maisie made at the wishing stones caused so many problems. Not exactly she was hoping for. Maisie was so competitive and likes to be in charge ALL the time. Too bad West isn't going to get her way ALL the time. He does meet her half way, at times giving in but he's also masterful with her. Telling her, I'm in charge this time. There will be touching in this story. And suggestive words of love and actions from West.
WEST- what a hot professor, he was also a calm, confident appearing man from California with glasses. His best friend Matthew was a charming, funny man who has known and has had West's back for years. West had been hurt so many times before but when he spotted Maisie , things began to change for him. She was sassy, sarcastic with him and he loved their debating or bickering which was a better word for it. I loved that the story included a smart man, who was also awkward at times and wore glasses, He wasn't afraid of her competitive nature, they thrived on it. One of my favorite thoughts by Maisie was "He looked at her like a gift to be unwrapped." She thought her gifts were non- existant but West saw her. And the hysterically funny sweatshirts that they scary older woman of the village kept giving him. The name they were called was, the book bitches. The latest one, is shown on the cover. "Chillin Snowmies" Hilarious !! West had a surprising affinity with animals, like tiny, aggressive Sir Buster. It surprised West, Maisie and all the others ! And it made for some funny times also with the ghost Coo, Clyde. Great humor and the voices of the narrators were over the top phenomenal. They were a great choice. They made it so easy to visualize things and people as they were described. They pulled me into this great story. Even when it came to the sound effects that were so good. I liked the Coo. And I loved the cover. There was a wonderful finish to Maisie and West's story ! Now I want to read Graham's story. To be honest, I've wanted to read this womanizers story for some time. I do believe he has had his eye on one particular woman all along ! , I fell in love with her almost instantly. West and her together were a hoot. West is taking a winter vacation in Scotland to kill his burnout, but instead, his colleague has convinced him to travel to Loren Brae and enjoy the Winter Book Festival. The male voice is perfect in this story. Also love the start of the winter vibes. He likes books, maybe not Christmas and definitely not the winter weather. He is so grumpy. He is a lit professor in California. Loren Brae has abundant myths and legends that supposedly fascinate him.
He meets Maisie at the tavern, where he gets roped into a quiz night. Of course, he meets the whole town with a lot of names. We do get Maisie pov, she is competitive and visits from a different village to help Sophie with the Book Festival. Of course, the theme is Scottish myths and legends. The quiz night leads to some rivalry as she gets jealous of West's brain and the knowledge that she is slightly dumbfounded by West. However, the last question about the local legend is truly intriguing.
The Christmas wish at the standing stones absolutely sounds amazing to his knowledgeable brain. Maisie doesn’t believe in magic or wishes coming true, as she has had some disappointments. The winner of quiz nights gets a sleigh ride.
Despite West's intriguing intelligence, she doesn’t do short relationships. Maisie is a writer, but also has trouble getting published. She does stumble upon the mythical standing stones and makes a wish, but not quite her heart's desire, as she doesn't really believe in it. She is such a bibliophile, and I love it.
The romance in Scotland is wonderful, but he seems to find her perfect after the first kiss. Of course, as they chat, they encounter a ghost Highland cow, omg, the attack by the elderly book club is fantastic.
He finds his dream girl in Maisie and is determined to woo her, but there are some distance issues with him being from California and her being in Scotland. He is a total nerdy cinnamon roll. He is a lit professor and loves fairytales. Well, he is about to be in one.
The magical castle, interconnections to other stories and their main characters and of course, all sorts of supernatural creatures. But I loved the game; they played, and it was so funny. West is serious about courting Maisie, but he is on a limited time schedule, and she is hesitant to accept any sort of nice gesture.
Of course, the magical ghost coo ( cow ) seems to give them frights, but the kelpies, brownie also star in the story. Their kisses are getting heated. The book ladies' sweatshirts and shirts are so funny; they make this book that much lighter. I love that West is so comical, at least with them.
I love the snowed-in trope in this book, and it is so true. But of course, the risk of the weather finally gets these two in closer encounters. The slow burn heats up with a hot tub in the snow and a lusty encounter. She finally realized he is hers.
But apparently that wasn’t the end.
Of course last break-up is unhappy, but her self-confidence issues really rear their ugly head. The story does end lovely with snow and the Hogmanay holiday. This was lovely to listen to while I worked, and the accents were easy to understand and hear on any device. I highly recommend this book on audio and in reading form.
Cute! But I did this one as a standalone for Christmas and I bet I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had read the first two in the series. There’s a magic element that I don’t know the backstory of and of course characters that mean nothing to me that could have, had I read the books. That said it did make me want to read the series and I see there’s a ton of books so that’s nice lol.
I also have never done a graphic audio for a book I haven’t read before because audiobooks can be confusing enough with things like internal monologues etc. So the graphic where they’re cutting most of the “character name said” stuff can be very hard to follow. But the difference between each audio was less than an hour, so I felt a lot wasn’t cut so I may as well have a more full audio experience lol
I generally don’t prefer novellas, I need more time to love it. But even though the initial attraction was only two weeks, the relationship didn’t feel too rushed to me like some books do… I believed the love at first sight with Maisie and West. It did feel like we were missing too much though. Like there was a couple time jumps of days at a time where it’s like, couldn’t you have just written those days too?
The ending for this couple is very open ended, it leaves a lot of what ifs… and since I like closure, I think I’m gonna go with 3.45. I was disappointed that they don’t continue into the next book since their story is so brief…i.e. since it’s still so early in the relationship you don’t even get an actual I love you so I figured their story would continue, but I guess I’m wrong. I just have to assume you get some periphery detail about them in future books. And I’m further disappointed because it seemed like it was setting it up for the cousin and the bartender to get their second chance love in the next book.. but I just scanned all the synopsis for books 4 through 9 and I don’t see their names at all so WTF lol

This book was NOT my idea of a good time. But, if you look at the reviews, the HUGE difference between the dramatized audiobook and just the book review scores, it is about an entire star difference (based on over 10k ratings!) and so I think part of it may have had to do with the medium I consumed, and less about the book itself?
Maybe.
I really didn't enjoy the Magick aspect of this book. The weird ghost cow with a sense of humor, and the magick (yes, magick, that's how it's spelled in the book) sleigh and the casting wishes at the water.
I thought it was all kind of ridiculous. But hey, maybe this type of thing is your cup of tea, and you'll love the book! Try it out? Idk, I'm the Christmas Grinch over here, absolutely hating this book.
This is a festive, silly book with magic and the charm of Scotland. There is an open door scene that I skipped and a small amount of crude humor. Overall it was cute. 3 1/2 stars.
Graphic Audio is my favorite audiobook company just came out with this production of A Kilt for Christmas by Tricia O’Malley and when I saw the ghost highland cow on the cover I was sold!!!
This book is part of The Enchanted Highlands, a series of interconnected standalones that take place in Loren Brae, Scotland a town where myths and legends may be more then just stories. I have not read any of the other books and there were a few moments I wished I had but I was follow along with this book no problem. That being said I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
A Kilt for Christmas is a story about two people who have a passion for books and mythology and how a magical village in Scotland during Christmas time brings them together. Our male lead is Weston a Clark Kent type who is a professor of literature in California who is in a bit of slump. He travels with his best friend to Scotland for a book festival in order to spice up his life a bit. Our female lead is Maisie a small town Scottish girl who dreams of being an author but is starting to feel burnt out due to all the rejections from the publish world. She is in town to help with the book festival and to get back her confidence by winning pub trivia and spending time with friends. West and Maise are adorable and have instant chemistry. There love story comes together between bantering about Scottish myths and run ins with magical creatures.
This book brought me so much joy! It literally felt like a hallmark movie with some spice. Graphic audio productions hit every time but the voice acting was incredible once again. My favorite part by far was the ghost cow and the match making group of Scottish grandmothers know as the “book bitches” 🤣
I would recommend this book to any romcom lover who wants a Christmas read that features Scottish history and mythology.
5/5 ⭐️ 3/5 🌶️
*content warning* explicit spicey scenes and swearing
A short story from the Enchanted Highlands series that is perfect for your Christmas loving soul! This is the 3rd of the series and I do recommend that you read or listen to the series in order as each book builds upon the last and will not only make more sense in order, but give you hours more of enjoyment and entertainment! The narration of this audio book series is outstanding as the dual narration really brings the characters to life as you have a sexy male voice to bring the man's side of the story to life while the female voice is perfect for bringing the female side of the story to life. Each book brings a couple together as they work to protect the town. In this book, the Christmas lovers are more tangentially related to the protection of the town as they are more sidekick characters that have been brought to the forefront to be the lovers in this story and oh what fun it is to follow them to the path of accepting their love. Ghost coo, kitchen elf antics and a gang of elderly book clubbers all join in to help the lovers find their way to each other causing much laughter! Those of us who like spice, never fear, there is enough spice to make you warm and happy! I can't wait for the next audiobook in the series to be available!
I’d say this story is just “fine” compared to the first two. I didn’t love Maisie- in fact, I found her kind of annoying. Like on day one Wes is all “you are stunning and amazing and I want to kiss you” and a week later she’s still crying like “what if he doesn’t like meeeeeee” and she was whiny. I loved the Christmas hijinks even if it is closer to Valentine’s Day now, and little Bryce and Clyde saving the day was the highlight of the read. The book ladies were nosily cute as well. I think the dramatized audio added a bit of fun, so 3/5 stars from me 👍🏻👍🏻
I am just loving this series!! This one strayed a little from the order plot of the series but it was still amazing! So cute and cozy, still full of the magickal Loren Brae goodness but a bit more lighthearted.
West and Maisie were so sweet together and I loved how sure West was pretty much straight away even if Maisie was a little more prickly. I loved all the Clyde appearances and shenanigans too!! This was just so good!!
And ofcourse another amazing graphic audio experience!!
Cute Scottish Christmas story🏴🎄 Listened on Hoopla, the Graphic Audio 🎧 with full cast narration. Will certainly listen to the rest in the series.
