Queer Poems

Rate this book
Queer Poems, by the author of the novel The Road to London and of the poetry collection Ybo' and Other Lies, is a collection of poems about 'queer' people, feelings and situations. Continuing Adriano Bulla's exploration of the soul of the downtrodden, the disenfranchised, the sufferers of this world, Queer Poems, often dark and intense, includes texts about LGBT issues, androgyny, polygamy, domestic violence, rape, homelessness, and more.

Intense imagery and hinted rhymes play with the rhythm and structure of the poems, by the author himself described as 'following the way T.S. Eliot's 'Preludes' opened'.

Shadow Whisper

Behind the bleeding veils of coarse
Corrosive cords of linen stiffened
In the breath that freezes stars
And chokes the Moon in solitary
Nights, the blighted cries of voices
Moist with poisoned spells
Of Hell
Are drawn on charcoaled canvas cut
And torn by time
When echoes shadow sparks
In embers stifled under scars
Like drops of thought that thaw in thick
Black holes devouring dry, deserted
Worlds with wanton words of woes
And stares -
Behind the curtains no one cares.

(A poem on domestic violence inspired by Kamille Freske's painting Shadow Whisper)

A voice for the alternative, an alternative voice.

Writer, poet, academic, with a passion for comparative literature and the classics, and an interest in new styles, structures and voices, Adriano Bulla defines himself as a 'servant of Calliope'.

PS: I notice that there are accounts whose sole purpose is to give me 1 star reviews... I must have stepped on someone toes.

Publications:

The novel The Road to London , a 'spiritual novel' combining elements of romance/ fiction with touches of erotica and with a surrealist style, where a gay boy creates a world of dreams and lies to escape prejudice, only to find himself locked in the cage of his own imagination( Glastonbury Publishing + Mirador + Netherwold Books, 2013).

Queer Poems , a collection of poetry about Human Rights and all those who suffer from injustice and discrimination (Maverick Reads 2014).

Tales for the Free Mind and Open Heart , a collection of short stories on injustice and discrimination, available free (2013).

Ybo' and Other Lies , a collection of poetry, 2005, republished in 2013 by Andrews UK).

Lucid Dreaming , a complete guide to lucid dreaming (Maverick Reads 2015).

New Age Spirit , ruminations on spirituality (Maverick Reads 2015).

The Labyrinth of Grammar , a grammar textbook for ESL/ EFL/ ESOL and English teachers and advanced students (Maverick Reads, 2013).

Assessment for Learning , a book for teachers on AFL and formative assessment. (Maverick Reads 2015).

The Mariner's Inferno , a comparative literature study on Dante and Coleridge (Maverick Reads, 2013).

Currently working with Anna on the next novel, with the working title The Dreamcatcher , which will very likely take years to write.

Strong believer in equality an human rights, be it the rights of the LGBT community or of the homeless and the poor, Bulla has recently shown more awareness of social issues in his writing.

Diversity and the search for compassion

Adriano Bulla defines himself 'a servant of Calliope': he does not choose when to write; poems and prose come to him unexpectedly, with a force he cannot resist. Born in Italy, he now lives in London, his adoptive city. He has always refused to stick to genres and formats, experimenting with new voices and new forms of expression - poems he terms flicker poems.

The preface from the publisher of this volume states Bulla's intentions and success well: QUEER POEMS is a collection of poems about 'queer' people, feelings and situations. It is about the soul of the downtrodden, the disenfranchised, the sufferers of this world, Queer Poems, often dark and intense, includes texts about LGBT issues, androgyny, polygamy, domestic violence, rape, homelessness, and more. Intense imagery and hinted rhymes play with the rhythm and structure of the poems, by the author himself described as 'following the way T.S. Eliot's 'Preludes' opened'.

Lament to Lust
In waves who surge along the Wolds
The stars are kissing leaves that rust
With memories of lust and glow
On parted lips and burning eyes
Like raging fires lost in caves
Embracing secrets past in sighs
That whisper far, forgotten tales
Of pain and joy;
Of lutes strung on remote refrains
In search of unison and lain
Like lambs on altars to be slain.

Armoured Hearts

Forever lost upon the shore
With shells of smiles that shift
The sand left standing soft with scorn
But dry as skin sloughed off by snakes
That burn on pyres high above the tide
Absconded by a Sun that that sees
No sighs in silent lights
Yet cast-off clothes so sparkling bright
Like armoured hearts upright at morn
To face the fleet of flotsam found
Upon the waves of woven words
Winking at the wind that woes In whispers

Adriano Bulla is a poet who gets our attention and holds it well.

This review is from: Queer Poems (Kindle Edition)

Queer Poems written by Adriano Bulla is an emotional twist that relates to the world as an whole!

Mr. Bulla uses words within his writing that give the reader something to think about and maybe run towards the dictionary.
I enjoy the man who wrote these extra-ordinary pieces of poetry. He is defending, speaking out, and or bringing awareness to
those who feels or been left out of society because of sexual preference, race or homelessness.

All the pieces touched my heart and I will have to read this book more than once. However, Born in Between had meaning and was talking to me: "By tongues and claws of ignorant sandpaper."

The "Queer Poems" can also bring solace to ones soul, give the reader a thing or two to think about and finally have you search within your heart and have you think and react differently towards another human that is different from you.

Thank you Mr. Bulla for sharing your inner thoughts thru your poems and writing. Much thanks!
