Reluctant Fae Princes #2

Impaled by His Omega Prince

Rate this book
Generations ago, an omega king stole a prized alpha from the goddesses to take as his own. As punishment, the nation of Croatens bears a curse in their name, never to know their love. When the third omega son of the Croatens king finds himself captive and forced to fight for his life to entertain the lowest of the low, the goddess intervenes. But will her price be too much?

Askara has been shackled and outcast since the day of his birth. As he cried his first breath, his mother breathed her last, unable to answer one important question- what is Askara? Born with silvery skin and dark hair, sclera white as snow—he’s no sun fae, for certain. Presumed to be a bastard, Askara lives with a kind beta couple until their bad choices leave him prisoner for a band of brigands. For a warrior blessed by the goddesses, carrying the lifeblood of vitalis in him, death is hard to come by. But when a feisty omega with more muscles than common sense skewers him on the battlefield—he falls head over heels.

"He’s your key to escape. He’s your key to revenge upon your father."

This is book 2 in the series Reluctant Fae Princes by Lilo Quie. When this appeared on Booksprout I couldn't wait to grab it to read.

I will admit that I was totally lost at the beginning of the book, I couldn't remember what happened in book 1 and what brought us to this place in book 2. I ended up rereading bits and pieces to refresh my memory. Hey, I read 544 books in 2024, I can't possibly remember all the plot points with that kind of volume. As soon as I did my memory refresh I realized who Askara was and everything started to fall into place.

Book 1 sucked me in and book 2 pulled me in just a little deeper. This world is a bit steampunk and the people living there have thalmic powers. They also have rules and stations that are totally different from the norm.

There are sword fights, battles, death, rebirth, famine, fratricide, Salusis the healing waters to cure illness, Vitalis to heal injuries, sun and moon goddesses, mpreg

Inquiring minds want to know who will be in the next book??? I have my own ideas but I'm not saying.

Mixed feelings but ultimately an interesting experience.

You know that feeling when you open a book and within the first pages, you feel like you've just come home even if you've never seen these characters or this world before? Well, think of the opposite of that and you have an idea of what I went through here. The writing style feels very foreign nd I struggled for quite some times. The world(plot didn't help. This is a gory, harsh world with a few Good main characters and The rest of the world. As in, it feels both unwelcoming and hostile and you would worry about the main characters that are instantly the natural choice for you to latch on because they're the only "normal" ones.

I am very conflicted when it comes to the whole omega/verse thingie - I do pick some up, let's not deceive ourselves but I go at them with this distrust and prejudice and they have to show me they're not just a steaming pile of misogynistic garbage. Pardon my French. A book using "impaled" with "his" with "omegae" was an easy choice... relatively speaking. I am a solitary creature but sometimes I still feel these unseen, imaginary eyes of society when I read a book with this title and this cover. Like, you know how we bookworms like to read all the time, even in public and someone asks you what you're reading and you just show them the cover. We wouldn't do that here. This is surely the type of book that gave rise to the term "guilty pleasure".

It is fitting, I admit. A what you see is what you get - an omega prince is lost and thrown into a gladiator-style situation. His opponent is a super special alpha and their meeting is the one and only scene where the omega... uses his sword to... put it into... it's not even a phallic metaphor, but it is a symbol cause this muscular, confident omega tops from the bottom. (I can't make myself say bossy or fiery because they imply this natural surprise and supposed submission - a CEO is arrogant or confident, a small female character behaving the same is bossy, like she has to dare to be that way.)

Anyway, the book does that one thing well - turning the Alpha Omega dynamic on its head and that's what kept me going. Yes, it's a bit too much at times, like the O needs to be 110% giving orders and physically strong while the A needs to be "lessened", being innocent and very open to being ordered about. I am usually a fan of more balanced relationships but because it was here, I was just happy to see this dynamic done differently.

There's a suprising amount of lore and culture and nations and subtle politics and side characters and so many terms that are simple enough to grasp but still feel a bit overwhelming because of how many of them there are and how almost none are explained - magic is thalm I think and they different flore and fauna, inculding some special tree and they have religions and the nation in question is "barbaric" yet ruled by an omega and surpsingly capable /experienced with dealing with the curse placed upon them, making them a strong country...

The vibes were still wierd, I just saw I read another book from the author and had the same issue so it's probably not a good idea to continue reading but I admit to being curious and may just see/follow this series if more books are incoming - there are certainly hints of it.

frost deer antlers, too-red lashes, midnight-black blood, Salus Omni, dragon horns, grassboar kidneys, pwins

As with most fantasy and magic books, the beginning of this story is slow reading. It's to be expected. The reader has to learn the characters and their abilities, absorb the imagery being painted, and the workings of the author's world. This is what I mean by 'slow reading'. Once the reader becomes familiar with it, the story flows steady, well paced, and easy-to-read.

The MCs' beginning is dark and despairing; the violence is graphic. But, there's hope on the horizon for our MCs, omega Prince Lumic and alpha Askara, the bastard son of a neighboring kingdom's ruler. They are well-developed and described very clearly. From the start, I loved Askara and everything about him. My love for Prince Lumic developed slowly. Then again, all the book's omega characters are likeable.

I enjoyed this book very much, and have no qualms in recommending it.

Let me start by saying this was a fantastic, creative, and magical story. Lumic is an Omega Prince, bound to be king, who doesn't want the job. Askara is an alpha born to the king and queen but because he's ash born and his mother died in childbirth he's referred to unkindly and treated horribly by his sire (sent off to be raised by a servant couple and later sold into servanthood). They meet on the battlefield when Askara is forced to throw the match. Honestly, I loved Lumic's reaction to his revival! They form a bond between them as they get to know eachother. The story takes their journey from there through multiple trials and tests. Despite everything, Will their bond be enough to keep them together?

I was fortunate enough to get to read the first book in this series, and I very much enjoyed the cameo, and encouragement, from those main characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

Outstanding! Askara, has been cursed and labeled a bastard since birth. His Mother died during childbirth, so he's been called the Queen Killer. He has been locked away at the mercy/command of whomever posseses his sigel. His caregivers leave him with an unscrupulous abuser who makes him fight for proveleges. Lumic, not your typical stereotype omega is out flying alone when he has a mishap and ends up captured being forced to fight. Askara and Lumic, start a relationship where Askara is compelled by his inner feelings and the Goddesses to protect Lumic. Fantastic story of the men living in circumstances beyond their control, survival, cultural values and being at the whim of Goddesses. Greeat action, excellent plot and nice characters. I absolutely enjoyed this story. I don't believe Lilo can write a bad story or do a bad job of worldbuilding. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a wonderful follow-up to Shattered by His Alpha. The two MC's in this book are so opposite in some areas and those are fun to read. There is Lumic, very confident in every aspect of life from fighting to having fun in the hay. There is the exception to how he feels about being a "buff" omega though. Then there is sweet, shy, naive alpha Askara. This alpha has been kept from everyone and everything to be used only as a fighting machine to make coins for his keepers. I loved reading along to Lumic showing and telling Askara about the ways of love among other things. There is humor, death, blessings from the Goddesses and family receiving what they deserve. I cannot wait to explore the next family member getting their HEA because the scene in the epilogue is intriguing indeed!.

'The moment caught him off guard as a scent as sweet as iskellia blossoms, sharp as flashpine sap, and full of a rich musk laden with something so close to spice hit his nostrils. It was a treat of a scent that he’d not had the privilege of taking in for quite some time. Unclaimed omega.'

I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Lumic and Askara. I loved that Lumic isn't the typical omega stereotype and was strong, muscled, and confident. Askara was also a fighter and he honed his skills well- though not by choice- and both winning and losing fights was controlled by others. A slave to their whim and cruelty. I was sad for the air of hopelessness around him. I liked the way the relationship between him and Lumic developed. I also liked some of the supporting characters. The story had me hooked. 4 stars.

So good!

This is book 2 in the Reluctant Fae Princes series but can be read as a standalone. I loved this story so so much! The story was so engrossing I couldn’t put it down. I had been looking forward to this story and it did not disappoint. Lumic and Askari were such great characters. Askara was so sweet and deserved all the happiness. Lumic is just the feisty and strong omega to fight to make sure he can have it. They really were perfect together and allowed each other to be who they truly were. Plus, I loved the cameos. This story took me through all the emotions and I’m so excited and can’t wait for more stories in this world!

I am sort of unsure how well I like this book. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it but I had a hard time getting into it at first. The last half of the book was definitely better for me. I did forget everyone's names from the first book so it took a minute for everything to finally click. No matter what, any sort of negative feelings I was having at first, were definitely a case of "it's not you, it's me".

This is Lilo Quie’s second book in the Reluctant Fae Princes series, but this story can easily be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed the way that the author has flipped a lot of the conventions in this story and we get Lumic who is an omega who is a good fighter and Askara who is rather shy. They end up perfect for each other of course. Quie has a deft hand at writing stories like this and I always look forward to reading what her lovely twisty mind has come up with now. Can’t wait for more.

Not your typical omega and alpha

Lumic is not your average omega.
He's a strong fighter, very headstrong and widely known for bedding many partners.
Askara is a shy, sweet, reserved alpha who hasn't had the best life.
They're complete opposites but are absolutely perfect together.
There's lots of fast-paced action, fighting, danger, drama, mystery and magic.
I absolutely love this world and I want more of it.

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed it. Lumic is a very special kind of Omega. The world/ real that he and Askara live in is very unique. This author is very clever at making new worlds and making them feel real. There is lots of trouble afoot for this couple and so many things are placed in their way. You need to read it to find all the things, good and bad. Good and bad people abound. I love this story. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

It's a bold and daring cover with an unusual story of an omega prince who meets his future alpha mate in the fighting ring, as he impales him in a fight. Fortunately, the alpha lives and love finds its way. They are blessed by the moon and sun goddesses to have a life of high blessing for their land. This book is a full journey with interesting storylines and supporting characters. I look forward to more from this world!

Lumic really was a fighter who also got around. He was very confident which is a nice switch up in this romance. Askara is the sweet and innocent one. I loved reading about his first intimate times with Lumic. This is a standalone romance but I very much still recommend starting with book one for world building and characters.

This is the second book of the series but the first one I’ve read and I really enjoyed it and felt it was okay as a standalone but I will go back and read the first one as I enjoyed this one so much. Lumic and Askara went through so much but their love and connection was always there, I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.

I found the beginning very confusing. The further I got along I realized that I had read a previous book in the series. And things started to make sense. Askara stole my heart along with Lumic.
