Jonathan Little on Live No-Limit Cash Games, Volume 1: The Theory

Rate this book
What do you think about when you sit down to play live no-limit cash games?

If it’s only your hand and how you should play it then you need to think again!

There is much, much more to being a good live cash player than simply playing your hand “correctly”. You need to develop a whole host of other skills. Jonathan Little, a top-ranking professional poker player, will teach you these skills. Jonathan has justifiably gained a reputation as one of the best instructors the game has ever seen. He has an almost unique ability to explain difficult poker concepts in simple terms.

Jonathan thoroughly examines the difficult topic of how to modify your play on all post-flop streets based on:

* The pre-flop action: limped, raised and re-raised pots have different dynamics
* Being in position or out of position
* Whether you are the aggressor
* Whether you have a strong made hand, a drawing hand or a bluff

Jonathan analyzes the numerous different player types and explains how to adjust your game to play well against each of them.

In Live No-Limit Cash Games Jonathan also discusses key “non-poker” concepts including::

* Bankroll management
* Game selection
* Spotting and concealing tells
* Emotional control

This book continues Jonathan Little's mantra of a calm & cold approach to poker where logic & common sense triumph over the LAG weasels that currently occupy the profitable poker zone defined by Bill Chen as "just short of maniac". I tend to agree with Jonathan Little's philosophy and since spending time with his books thinking about the elements Jonathan highlights, my online cashes and deep runs have increased. Alos my qualifications to numerous World Poker Tour events around the world in 2014 have doubled to 6, so clearly this book is an important and excellent read for the amateur poker player interested in playing more seriously against real competition.

Thank you Jonathan. I met you at the World Poker Tour Cyprus 2009 where you briefly joined our group of amateur and pro poker players arguing about the Gold Olympic Medal in Ice Hockey (obv Canada was going to win but you can imagine what the Swedes said ....) and the role of relative position in poker. You said that position was the most important concept in the game to understand.
