No More Boring Bible Study: Why Taking Scripture Seriously Is Easier and More Exciting Than You Think

Rate this book
The Bible can feel overwhelming, but studying it is easier and more exciting than you think.

Christians are supposed to love the Bible, right? They're supposed to tell Bible stories, explain their beliefs, and recite favorite verses from memory.

But Scripture is sometimes hard to read! It can be complex, boring (yes, you can say that), and difficult to apply. Many of us carry secret shame about how little we read the Bible. We want to grow as Christians, but we don't know how.

Faith Womack understands those feelings. Growing up in a home where Bible verses were used to control her, she yearned to grow close to God but found the Bible confusing and boring. After a spiritual wakeup in college, she discovered the life-changing power of real Bible study. Free of the spiritual abuses of her past, she has devoted her life to helping readers like you get excited about Bible reading.

In No More Boring Bible Study, you

Learn quick, easy study methods
Get energized by the story of Scripture
Grasp new concepts that bring the Bible to life
Have fun (yes!) doing close study
Grow closer to God

Learning to read and study the Bible is life-changing. It's time to free yourself from the guilt of not getting it. Make your Bible study exciting again!

Overall, this was pretty good. I loved the last half of the book and really enjoyed her passion for the Bible. I definitely learned a lot, though some parts were more for beginners, oand other parts went quite deep. The author wrote in this very hyperactive tone of voice that was sometimes a bit distracting, but I know from watching her YouTube videos that that is just sort of the way she talks, haha, and i do appreciate her. And as usual, I just find Christian women writers have this annoying tendency to add the silliest anecdotes to "make their point," (but doesn't), and this book was no exception, haha. You know the stories that go something like, "The other day, my kid did this super cute, hilarious thing... that's just like what our relationship with Jesus is like!!!" 😆🙄🙄 Yeah, there were a lot of those. But no major flaws by any means, and I definitely would recommend to young ladies or beginners, though! Definitely inspired to study the Word!

I received an ARC of this book that I won in a giveaway from Goodreads. I put my name in the hat for the drawing because I’m a Bible college grad who has gotten caught up in life and looking for a book to help rekindle that fire to do more personal Bible study.

I enjoyed this book, it was a page-turner for me. The author did a good job of explaining how to look at each book of the Bible for the proper context and interpretation.

What I think the book lacked was bringing up Bible study resources earlier in the book: commentaries, dictionaries, Bible study software. These were all mentioned at the end of the book when I was getting worn out and ready to finish reading.

The book is divided up in easy-to-read chapters along with “Bible Nerd Notes.” I think it’d be a decent resource for a Bible study or life group.

Overall, I’d give this book a 3.75 stars. It wasn’t everything I was expecting or wanting, but it lit a spark to kick me into gear… and that’s important. I would recommend this book.

In a perfect world, someone gets saved and then reads this book (not neglecting reading the Bible ofc). And then comes back 6 months to a year later, and reads it again. Then in a few more years, or whenever they need to remember the power of the book they hold in their hands, they read it again.

I can’t help but to think of all of the errors, fallacies, and outright lies that I would have avoided about scripture if my 18 year old self would have had this.

Praise God I have it now and a book like this exists in the world for those who want to hold scripture highly, use it rightly, and see the glory of God in all its pages.

My favorite favorite part about this book is how she emphasizes that at the end of the day, studying the Bible should cause you to worship God more!

It's difficult to know exactly how to rate this book.

There was a lot of really good information here. I could see how this would be a helpful resource for someone who didn't know *how* to study the Bible.

HOWEVER, the author shares beliefs about salvation and doctrinal issues as though these things aren't worth "arguing" about. Truth is truth, and the Bible is clear about salvation, specifically baptism. So, with this thought in mind, I couldn't and won't suggest this book to a new student of the Word. I'm afraid it would be too confusing.

✨📖💜 Hello Faith from deep in the HEART of Texas near Waco!!! I received my pre-ordered copy of No More Boring Bible Study in the mail today, & I just HAD to share how excited—and so stinkin’ proud—I am of you. Finding your channel back in January 2023 changed my life! I’ve now been reading & studying the Bible more than I ever have before, because God used your teaching (and your awesome personality) to reignite something in me at the age of almost 55!!! You were the first person I ever followed & contributed to on Patreon that year, which is such a meaningful way to support your work & be connected to your teaching.

After watching the YouTube video where you read the first chapter, I went through the comments & pulled together some of the most powerful things people said about your book because I thought you & your readers, would enjoy seeing this compilation of just how deeply your work is already blessing people. (And no… I’m not crying, you’re crying!)

Your heart for Scripture, your clear teaching, & the honesty in your story are drawing people back to God’s Word with fresh eyes. I truly believe this is just the first of many books you’ll write, & I can’t wait to see all the ways God uses them. You are such an encouragement to the body of Christ. I thank God for the gift of you in this world! 💜📖✨

I deleted my first review of this book. I think that even being honest, I was unnecessarily rude. I want to be sincere, the truth is that from what Faith said on her channel and the name of the book, I thought it would revolutionize the way I read the Bible. For me, it's a simplified version of How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, and I prefer more cultured language when we talk about Bible study.
If you are a novice Christian who has difficulty with the language of some books on Bible study, this may be a good option for you. If you are used to more elaborate language, the book mentioned is more appropriate (in my opinion).
The truth is that I am very unhappy with Faith's apolitical tone, especially when I think in terms of scope. She wants to reach the largest number of people, and I felt that there was a very superior air in the book at some points. So when she made a comment about having a bad president, I felt irritated. With all the talk about DT, I thought to myself, yet another one. Another one complaining with a full belly. Maybe I'm too sensitive after so many years of complaining, because with all his many flaws, I, who live in Brazil, would like to have a president like him, who is at least trying. This world is only going from bad to worse, and Jesus is the way, but I believe that with our vote, we can make some difference in our lives and in the lives of other people.
The chapter on the law is still a tragedy of bad arguments, and finally, I have to mention that Faith didn't like the MomBear apologetics because of the way she included the day-to-day life of a mother and housewife in her book, but she did exactly the same thing.
Finally, I am saddened to know that many families suffer from the distortion of the word and I am glad that Faith has found the truth. This is her first book, and may God continue to bless her and may many more books be produced, each with better quality.

I loved this book! Faith clearly has a passion for getting people into the Word and inspired to dive deeper. I felt like it gave a great overview of the Bible and how to dive in more deeply. It is definitely a beginner book and I will have my kids all read it. I’ve recommended to lots of people. If you’ve taken her Bible Study Bootcamp course, there isn’t really any new information in this book. But it is written in a really attainable, approachable way that is a great refresher and worth revisiting in the future. I enjoyed the Bible Nerd Notes and the actionable steps to apply what she addresses. I’m slowly going back and working through those. Faith’s voice was strong in this book. If I wasn’t familiar with her already, and her bubbly, fun, active personality I could see that being a little distracting. In general, I definitely prefer less personal testimony and little stories than this book had. I did appreciate it in this book because I know who Faith is, and could picture her and her kids, but if she was a complete stranger I know I would not have enjoyed that part. I can see why she included it though, as it shares why she’s credible and worth listening to about this topic, it’s just not my preference in this type of book. I would love to see a more in depth version of the book that cut out the extra personal stories and dove it a little deeper or covered more theology or hot topics. Definitely worth the read & I know it’ll be a book I return to in the future as a reference!

In No More Boring Bible Study, Faith Womack offers a guide that shows why taking Scripture seriously is easier—and more exciting—than you might think.

What Womack does best is genuinely get readers excited about Bible study. She frames and weaves her chapters with personal stories, and I found myself saying, “Me too!” while reading.

She clearly and efficiently explains foundational ideas and essential skills for studying the Bible in a short amount of time: why we can believe the Bible is true, the difference between exegesis and eisegesis, and how the overarching storyline of Scripture is the “secret code” to understanding the Bible.

Enjoying God’s Word

I especially enjoyed her discussion of what the Bible is not. It is not just a history textbook. It is not just a rulebook. It is not just a letter.

The book concludes by addressing problems in modern interpretation and application, which I found refreshing as someone who is not new to Bible study. Womack tackles the self-centered hermeneutic many of us struggle with and shows how right understanding—one that leads to worship—is the right application of the text.

No More Boring Bible Study is an excellent book that demonstrates that studying God’s Word is not only for spiritual education, but also for spiritual enjoyment.

I received a media copy of No More Boring Bible Study and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep

This is my second reading - the first reading showed me that this book is best suited for me as a Bible Study.

I recommend this book as a tool to be used alongside Faith’s YouTube videos, your regular Bible studies, and book, chapter, verse, and character studies - not independent of one another. It is also helpful to have taken Faith’s online courses ‘Bible Study Bootcamp’ and ‘Theology Bootcamp’ prior to reading this book, as her book refers to advanced knowledge of the Bible and biblical vocabulary. Those precursor online courses, while not necessary, do give her book context, and you won’t spend as much time looking up definitions - allowing more time to devote to this next level Bible study.

Dare I say this book is brilliant and perhaps just the beginning of many more for this author? Please Faith, switch platforms from online courses to Bible studies and textbooks - I know you have more to share. I’m in!

So much goodness in a sweet small package. I love how Faith presents you with not only the basics of bible study, but also leaves you craving that deep dive into becoming intimate with bible study, thus becoming intimate with God. i really enjoy the fact that this book was written in a way to where it is a resource in itself, and not just a book i'll read once and put away.

Some parts did feel a little repetitive, but nothing terrible. There were also some statements or opinions that i dont 100% agree with, due to the fact that im catholic, but again this wasnt something that kept me from benefiting from the book.

overall I really did love the book and I'm happy thought I bought 2 copies and decided to gift one to my friend. This book does a great job at inspiring you to jump into bible study.

I'm so excited to start this journey and meet God in his word.

I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to know more about the Bible, how to study it, and enjoy doing so! I have been watching Faith's videos for a couple of years now and pre-ordered this book. I eagerly awaited its arrival and was not at all disappointed! Though I've been learning from her content and doing studies on my own for two years now, I still gleaned so much wisdom and helpful information from this book! It is easy to read and understand and so can be enjoyed by beginners but also older Christians too (I'm thinking of getting it for my grandmother who is new to bible studying). This book is absolutely jam packed and I adored reading it! I now have quite a few notes in my Bible that have "-faith Womack" at the end of them. Thanks so much for this awesome book Faith!

I loved this book! You can tell that she has a passion for people to know and understand God's Word faithfully. I loved that she reminds the reader that the Bible isn't written about us. The Bible for us, but it is about God. Every part of the Bible should bring us to worship. She did a great job at explaining an overview of the Bible as a whole as well as individual genres. I really enjoyed her Bible Nerd notes where she invites the reader to look closer at the Bible and try out some of the tips and tools she is teaching. I read through it this first time to see what it was all about. Now I want to go back through the book again more slowly and actually try out her tips for a deeper Bible Study.

This is a must-read of all Christians! Whether you are a new Christian and don't know where to begin with Bible study or if you've been a Christian for 50 years and just want to get back to the basics, this is the book for you!

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this book! It is easy to read and not intimidating at all.

She has a Youtube channel called Bible Nerd Ministires which I have been following for years, which I highly recommend as well. There are some things she has said in her videos that she reiterates in the book and it was nice to get those reminders of things she has said.

I've been a Bible Nerd for a while now, but this book really encouraged me and I'm ready to be a student for life for the Bible.

3.5⭐️ If you want to feel what it’s like to love God’s Word, this is the book for you!
This is the perfect book for a beginner at Bible study or someone who’s looking to go deeper into the Word than what they get at church each Sunday. It gives a good foundation in parts of the Bible and translations which is important.
I wish Chapter 15 had come sooner I thought more of the book would be scholarly resources and tools to go deeper that she learned in Bible college. And knowing the full bookshelves behind her in her YouTube videos I know she’s well versed (pun intended)! A little more Bible college lecture, a little less anecdotal narration. And if you liked the book, you’ll love her YouTube videos!! Big fan, Faith 🫶

I decided to do a cursory read of this book then a re-read doing the Bible Nerd recap notes / activities. On a first read this book is excellent. More than just Faiths YouTube video content. It definitely got me excited to dig in deeper. A couple of standout points were the Bible timeline diagram of the CFRC, recalling that ALL scripture is about Jesus not just the NT and the simple understanding of revelation - God is in control and wins in the end. As someone who tends to over complicate everything these basic tools/insights were a reminder that scripture is accessible to anyone.

I think this is such a great place to start with learning how to bible study. So often people feel stuck or they don't know how to begin. As a small group women's bible study teacher, I run into women all the time that want to know how to study the bible but they just don't know where to begin and I think Faith Womack does a great job of giving you the tools to get started.

I loved reading Faith’s book as she brings so much enthusiasm, wisdom & insight as to how to read the Bible. I love listening to her Bible Nerd Ministry on You Tube/Patreon, this book is a continuation of her showing us how reading the Bible is interesting and fun. As she says, “If we truly believe it’s true, we will want to be faithful to it, and not misuse it!”
