God is going to use someone to walk in purpose, meaning, destiny and anointing. So why not you? You can operate in your God-given abilities when you operate out of your God-given identity.
There is a very human tendency to believe the best for others and the worst for ourselves. To believe that someone else can operate in their full potential, while we settle to exist in our scraps of talent and personal limitations. But what if we could identify these lies for what they are and learn to take hold of the life God has actually called us to?
When Ed Newton was ten years old, a woman at McDonald's prophesied over him that God was going to use him in a great way. Ed, who was eating lunch with his deaf parents, didn't even have a relationship with the Lord at the time. He had no idea that the story that God was writing would one day be something he'd feel compelled to share with others.
Ed has walked the road of biblical identity and is now inviting others to do the same. Why Not You? is filled with his stories of growing up as a child of deaf parents (CODA) as well as other life experiences. Ed shows how the truth of God’s Word can cut through the web of self-doubt so many followers of Christ struggle with and show them who God created them to be. This book will help
battle through negative self-talk, doubts, and insecurities;retrain their minds to view themselves from God's perspective;see their setbacks as setups for success;stop questioning their gifts and talents and start living in them.
Backed with Scripture and a raw look at his journey from childhood until a miraculous, spiritual encounter with the Lord in early 2024, Ed shows readers that it’s not only possible for God to use them, but that God wants to use them. Each chapter challenges readers to confidently walk in the calling and identity God has placed on their lives.
What a powerful, uplifting read that reminds you that God can use any one of us right where we are. Very motivating, and full of encouragement that pushes us to believe bigger and step into our purpose. A quick read! 🫶🏼 loved it and can relate to it so much!! Thank you Pastor Ed
Why Not You? asks readers to look past insecurities and mistrust of God. It encourages you to examine why you should be the one to [insert calling here]. Full of memorable quotes, the book engrosses you as you see how God is at work in your life and urges you not to ignore the calling He has given you.
For me, a nonfiction book must have takeaways, and Why Not You? delivers. While it lacks clear, concise implementation steps, it compels action. You are encouraged to focus on what God has given you and to live a life that honors Him.
Some of the most powerful lessons I gained:
Don’t fake it until you make it – Being yourself in every setting, whether at church, school, the office, or home, is simple in concept but can be difficult in practice (62).
Break your patterns – If something is bothering you or you’re not honoring God, you must make changes. Learn to control your emotions and respond in a way that pleases God (108).
Written from his own experiences, Dr. Newton weaves in biblical illustrations, quotes, and lessons from teachers such as Max Lucado, C.S. Lewis, and John Maxwell. He even quotes The Bangles in Chapter 1, so how could you not love it?
If you enjoy books based on life experience that lead to real, lasting change, where you can learn from someone else and focus on the glory of God, Why Not You? is a must-read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through TLC Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
What a powerful book! Filled with wisdom and inspiration. I read it straight through and couldn’t put it down! This book had me laughing to tears — in all the best ways.
Thank you Pastor ED! Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment!

Have you ever felt like God has called you to do something, but you’re lacking the confidence to do it? Are you struggling with imposter syndrome? You don’t think you’re good enough, and you’re wondering if you’re really the right person for the job? Well, that’s how I felt for six years, and I finally decided to listen to God’s calling. So when I saw this book, I decided to pick it up, because I was curious, was I really doing the right thing?
This book is a Christian’s guide to overcoming self-doubt, so you can have self-growth via God and his plans for you. The author gives Biblical insight on how to overcome self-doubt and align your beliefs with God’s beliefs about you, so you can see yourself the way God sees you. The book starts off with the story of Moses in Exodus. Moses believed there were better people for the job of going to see Pharaoh and telling him to pull two million people out of Egypt, but God didn’t agree. Through this story and others, we see how we’re our own worst critics and discredit the blessings God has given us, when he chooses us for a job/a purpose. In this book, you’ll learn to stop rejecting God’s plans because if not careful, you may miss God’s calling because the lies others are looming over us.
There are so many good little nuggets in this book. I loved it when the author said “sometimes God will keep us from what seems ”good” because He has “better” in the waiting.” Or “because David was faithful in the small things, God rewarded him in much bigger ways.” You are going to want to highlight and highlight this book. It’s so good and such great encouragement to follow God’s purpose for you!
Thank you W Publishing | Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book!
Ed Newton wrote a much needed message for today’s world in his new book Why Not You? We all get caught up in labels by society, people, and even our own thoughts about ourselves. This book reminds us that we need to stop and start believing how God sees us. Ed’s honesty and personal story make the message hit home — it’s inspiring, practical, and full of hope. If you’ve ever battled fear, insecurity, or the feeling that you’re not enough, this book will remind you that with God, you are already equipped for purpose. Will definitely purchase copies to pass out to friends and family.
Only one recommendation I think would have made this better. In books like this "how-to" steps can really be beneficial to those reading. It makes the great information more practical with a plan in place for those who need the extra guidance.
Overall, fantastic book. I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley on behalf of Thomas Nelson, but wasn't obligated to post a review. All opinions are my honest opinions.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC of Why Not You? by Ed Newton. This book offers uplifting encouragement and practical insights on how to embrace the truth that God has big plans for your life. I appreciated the message that even when we don’t feel worthy or capable, God sees our value and potential.
Ed Newton emphasizes the importance of surrendering our lives to God, not out of obligation, but because of the incredible purpose and blessings He has in store for us.
The only downside I experienced was that the first 50-60% of the book read more like an essay, which made it a bit harder to stay engaged. However, the writing style noticeably shifted in the latter part of the book, becoming more conversational and impactful. That change made the final chapters much more enjoyable and resonant.
Overall, I’d recommend Why Not You? to friends and family. The spiritual encouragement and powerful takeaways left a lasting impression on me.
Beautiful book, and right on time. Pastor Ed shares an important, uplifting, and encouraging message that will leave you feeling empowered, motivated and loved when you’re through. Have a highlighter (and a box of tissues) handy!
