The Game: A Grumpy Sunshine Sports Romance

Rate this book
He's a grumpy quarterback seeking redemption. We had a one-night stand years ago and, now that we work together, I hope he doesn't remember me...

If the team owner wants my PR skills to polish Logan King's grouchy attitude, then that's what I'll do. He'll take the team to the playoffs, and I'll make him shine for the cameras.

His famous frown doesn't deter me. His incredible body can't tempt me. Getting a promotion is all I care about, when my parents' debt hangs over my head and my childhood home is in the balance.

Until banter fills our meetings, and he studies my curves like he wants me in his bed again. When he becomes the one person I can rely on, I almost give in.

Except caring for my parents leaves no room for anyone else. Not even the man I'm falling for. Heartbreak is the last thing I need.

This was a cute sports romance that I genuinely enjoyed, even if it didn’t surprise me. The story was a bit predictable, but sometimes that’s exactly what you’re in the mood for—familiar tropes, solid chemistry, and an easy, entertaining read.

Such a cute story of a woman born of immigrant hard working parents and having a first generation American daughter to be their translator and having to grow up quickly and be their branch into this world and help them understand the American legality of the American language. & boy do I know this story all to well, being 1st American generation child to an Latino mother and Italian father.
This story shows and repaints so much of what my feelings were growing up as a kid and young adult, and occasionally today as a wife and mother of 2.

Evie- hard working dedicated and driven woman that focuses so hard on work and being MS FIX IT but forgets she’s human and not always can she be so ON because she needs to also take a seat and a breather and remember she’s human and needs to be her own self and indulge in protecting herself and self worth as well.

Logan - a dedicated and super talented quarterback living in his Legend of a father- shadows. Who doesn’t have much experience with understanding true care and acknowledgement from people because he never knew of it was genuine or if it was because of who he was.

These two find each other once in their past- and years later in their jobs - realize they need to come together- and see that chemistry is still there and lord is it OFF THE CHARTS- adorable and witty teammate banter and incredible supporting characters makes for such a beautiful funny and kind binge read … def recommend ❤️

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Logan and Evie have a one night stand in college. They both still think about that night. Fast forward to a number of years later, they meet again this time in a professional setting. What comes next is a lot of great banter, swooning, a wonderful grumpy/sunshine trope, found family, and spice!

I expected to enjoy this book, and I did. What I did not expect was the vulnerability of the MMC. Logan is a soft, squishy guy with a scowling exterior. The banter with his teammates is a lot of fun, as is his banter with Evie. I rated it 4 stars because I do enjoy a bit more angst.

This was my first Leonore Soliz novel, but it won't be my last!

New to me author and now I have a whole new catalogue of stories for my tbr. She writes amazing characters with depth, history, and motivations. Leaves you truely understanding their inability with relationships and desires to protect themselves. You just cant help fall in love in with them and their delicious SLOW BURN romance.
I don't want to give away any spoils so it may be a bit vague. There was a section that was giving me Edward vibes, (when he was excited to introduce Bella to his family and he is jumping on the truck and fixing the dent) Logan's energy when inviting Evie to a friend's Christmas dinner. It was so adorable, Logan is adorable.
Sum it up as monogamous non-daters that find themselves not dating. Evie smiles to put ppl at ease but secretly snarky to Logan. While Logan frowns are his number one facial expression but secretly he smiles for Evie.

"Her scent is like alchemy to my mind."
"I'll get a vulnerability hangover..."
"Who takes care of you?" I ask.

Workplace
Sarcasm and banter a love language
Everyone sees it but them
Found family
Plus size Latina and Quarterback

Thank you Leonor Soliz for this ARC.

I would’ve probably rated it higher if we got more of Logan and Evie’s relationship, to be honest. But it has an interesting plot, a bunch of lovely side characters and a good love story. Above all, I liked Logan and Evie. Yet, I have to say I can’t wait to read Saint’s or Bear’s stories. They were my favourite characters!!

I was lucky to get an ARC of The Game and I loved it! My review is late thanks to the Ontario Canada Ice Storm that hit (no power = no e-book) but all opinions are my own.

While I’m normally a Hockey romance reader, I was intrigued by this Football romance. The technical aspects of the sport were easy for me, someone who does not know this sport at all, to follow. I was able to stay in the story and not worry about all the technical details which can sometimes happen in a sports romance.

Evie and Logan were adorable, both recognizing the other immediately but not wanting to be the one to bring up their one night stand years before. I loved how they started to get to know each other before their past crept in. Without either of them admitting things, they were able to build a new connection by bridging the old with the new. The spark was there but the material needed to kindle their fire needed to be built from real life and not their imagined explanations.

The entire team being Team Evie was hilarious, and staging interventions to ensure that she was being treated fairly is what every girl needs. As well as the support the guys gave to Logan, allowing him to be his grumpy self but still coaxing him out of his shell. Logan needed them to show him how to let people in, just as Evie needed to learn how to rely on others.

The pace of the story was just right, letting things build without dragging it on or mashing pieces that don’t quite fit together with a hammer.

I was thrilled that there wasn’t a 3rd act break up. Sometimes that tension is needed but I really enjoyed how Logan and Evie were able to grow as people and as a couple without needing to have some dramatic unnecessary drama.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Game and have a new author to add to my ever growing list of must reads. Thanks for letting me be an Advanced Reader!

This had so many things I love in a story but the pacing was off and I often found it hard to understand the author’s sentences or intention, which was frustrating.

❤️ no third act breakup
🗣️ Communication - the two MCs definitely talked to each other, but I found the reason for them not to be together confusing. And the “game” they refer to with each other - what is the game? The push/pull? Pretending not to care? Idk.
👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼. Evie is a strong and independent character who has had to carry a significant emotional and financial weight for her immigrant parents. She is scared to have friends for some reason having to do with her inability to trust and establish personal boundaries.

Logan is a grumpy but lovable football player on the rise with a superstar dad and he’s trying to make a name for himself outside of his shadow.
🧨. This was a slow burn for the first 60% and then the spice kicked in.
🫣 No OW/OM drama at all.
👥. Dual POV. HEA. Two epilogues in the future.

Evie is now the PR rep for the Sparks football team, where Logan is the new quarterback. Logan is grumpy and uncommunicative and Evie is charged with getting him to lighten up and improve his image. A promotion for her is on the line and she needs it to support her family. They had a one night stand 6 yrs prior and neither will initially admit that they remember the other. They work together over the course of months, Logan finally admits that he remembers, and things move from there.

The tension comes from each not wanting to be in a relationship - even though they clearly are? And her being skittish about her boundaries.

Things I liked:
- mutual respect at all times between the characters
- both are good people but dealing with emotional baggage
- I liked that it started a bit insta w the ONS; they each held on to that moment and their attraction resparked when they met years later. It felt balanced between them.
- The epilogues were cute.
- Logan’s character growth and found a family w the team

Reasons why not 5 stars
- the pacing was off and the book seemed long.
- I didn’t like the dynamic where some of it seemed played for the media and teammates and some was real. As a reader I don’t like those lines blurry. But again, this could be me not understanding what the author intended.
- the whole idea that they both thought they could have mindless/meaningless sex AFTER being friends and opening up to each other. Yeah. What?
- All the wearing of his jersey, being photographed together, him throwing her kisses at games, his big heartfelt declaration in front of his teammates… were bc of different bets. He meant them but he also did them bc of bets. If I were her, I’d wonder if he was playing me. Is that “the game”?? Idk. It was weird. The actions and emotions didn’t track for me. But, given how much others love it, this could be a “me” issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Meanwhile, overall, a cute sports romance with found family, good spice, and strong characters. It all worked out!

ARC reader here (thank you to the author!)

I really liked the book. The description and the History was super good and new. Sometines when you really like one kind of book (for me is sport Romance), the books may be repetitive, the troupes are not unlimited so it happens (I am not complaining, tho😂) but it didn't happen with this book.

Is a very good sport romance with a lot of potential for the next books.
So, why not 5⭐?

I didn't feel the "sparkle" between the to MC, I love both of them separately, how he works for accomplish his goals and how strong and capable she is.
But I think the relationship of them evolve shower fast. I enjoyed the banter at the beginning and I know both of them have feelings before the situation but I feel like it needs more work between the two of them.

Once this said I can wait for the next book of the series. You can see A LOT of hints in this book and I see all the potential there, can't wait 💖

A very sexy sport romance between a pr executive and a football quarterback. Evie is the kind of woman that takes on everything herself without asking for help including how to save her parent’s house from foreclosure. A promotion is just what she needs to help with the money issue even if it means working closely with the team’s grumpy new quarterback to help his public image while ignoring that they had a one night stand 6 years ago…

This is an incredibly sweet romance where the relatable characters have to pull back each other’s layers. Both have to open themselves up to taking the jump into love. The chemistry and banter banter between the characters is well done and the spicy is spicy

Content warnings include sexual content, alcohol use, parentification and gambling.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my first Leonor Soliz book, well I have a couple but you know that endless TBR! Well, I’m officially a fan.

The pacing, the banter, and the character development were all so well done that the story flowed seamlessly from start to finish.

The romance was everything I didn’t know I needed…sweet, swoony, and beautifully written. What really stood out was the friendship between Evie and Logan. Their chemistry shows on the page, but it’s layered with something deeper as they spend time together and Logan slowly opens up.

I also loved the dynamic of the friend group. It’s rare to find a genuinely supportive, non-toxic group of guy friends in romance, and these players have completely stolen my heart.

I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!

I received an ARC for this book.

I wanted to try reading outside my comfort zone, and when I saw the author was sending ARCs for this one, I jumped right in! This was my second book by Leonor Soliz; the first was "Under the Meh-stletoe", and I loved it. This is my first sports romance, so I didn't know what to expect. The read was enjoyable. I liked the banter between the main characters and the dual POV. You can see how both main characters struggled in their own ways and how they brought out the best in each other as they got to know one another. The steaminess of their encounters was perfect. To think they had a one-night stand years ago and never ran into each other again until years later! Some of my favorite quotes: "I won't apologize for the noises I need to make," "Take a break. Take some help. No one can do life alone", and "The odds are stacked against us, but dreams push everyone forward." Two things I could have done without were: 1) The family debt storyline. I think it would have been better in a continuation of the story, but not for the first book. 2) The book was a little too long. Sometimes I found the pacing too slow.

Logan and Evie!! This book was 4.25 stars 🌟 I freaking loved Evie and Logan together. 🥹

This was the first book that I read from this author and it certainly won't be the last. I finished the book in a day because both characters just truly felt so relatable.

As an older sister determined to take care of everyone in my life, Evie felt like part of me. As far as Logan, I think there a person for everyone that people compare you which is terrible. I was rooting for him to become his own person.

While I wouldn't consider this a smutty read (there are a few spicy moments) I loved seeing them trust each other, open up and fall deeply in love.

I really really enjoyed this story and would 100% recommend you read this book.

Thank you so so so much for the ARC!! I can't wait to read it again on release day! All opinions are my own!!!

THE KING AND HIS QUEEN!!! i'm pretty sure im in love with Logan and his grumpiness. Evie is so strong because i would have FOLDED, absolutely crumpled (especially in that gym scene with the water!?)

King is complex and wears his grumpiness like a shield but Evie is the chunk in his armor. the way he softens up to her and his teammates just proves that he's a softie on the inside.

Evie is the sunshine to Kings grumpy, but she has her own issues to deal with at home and sometimes the weight of it all is too much. i resonate so much with her hyper independence and inability to ask for help.

together they are everything. it's alchemy ❤️

what's inside:
-grumpy/sunshine
-star quarterback x PR specialist
-one night stand (she thinks he forgot, he thinks she forgot)
-plus size fmc

cw/tw:
-descriptive sexual content
-complicated family dynamics

THANK YOU FOR THE ARC 🥰

This took me so long to read but I truly enjoyed it!

I loved how committed Logan was to showing Evie he was interested in pursuing a relationship with her. I love a man who knows how to treat a hardworking Latina baddie right!!

The epilogue was so sweet too, I’m so soft for them 🤍

Such a great read! Logan & Evie ❤️. The King was always going to get his queen in this HEA. A true slow burn that was enjoyable to read. It ticked so many boxes. HEA. No third act drama or break up. Enjoyable and with believable characters. Just a good 🌶️ read.

Logan and Evie, absolute gems.

🌶️🌶️

if Leonor Soliz writes it, ima read it.

this book starts off hot, one night stand, and a great one at that. so memorable they are both thinking about it years later.
the story follows Logan (football player for the Seattle Strike) who is a grump and needs help from the teams PR team (Evie). will they reconnect? will they remember? who knows…i do, and it’s such a good story.

the banter, the character development, the found family, the latin representation (go 🇦🇷), nick names, on going bets and scores with the team, and loud declarations of love.

all perfection.

I was introduced to this lovey author by an Instagram post requesting for arc readers for the next installment of her book series. Not even knowing what an arc was let alone not even being a content creator of any sorts and bot even posting written reviews so this a first for me lol! But I applied anyhow knowing I probably won't get picked then overflowing with joy when I get the email that I was chosen to be on her arc team. I love a good series so I had to start from the beginning even though from my understanding they can be read as stand alone books. I just had to indulge myself and I am so glad I did.

Now that long introduction is out the way lol. I am so pleasantly surprised. I have fallen in love with this book, the characters, and the author Leonor Soliz. Thus far I've only read one book with a plus size mc and I loved it. Being a plus size girl my whole life is so beautiful to read us getting loved properly and not a second choice. The characters are so beautiful written I feel like I know them personally in real life. Evie and Logan are the cutest couple to start the series with their struggles are so real and so much real life that anyone can relate to either one them and especially Evie for us hyper independent girlies. The friend group that we get introduced to is fabulous and I need to know more about everyone and I need my happy endings lol!

I love a sports romance for someone who knows nothing about them. I just love how within a team no matter the sport they find a chosen family which I love because it so important in life. I wanted to cry when Logan finally got his friends he's been wanting for so long . I love how Logan got Evie to realize how much those around are love her just as she is and want her just for herself and not for what she can do for them and letting get closer to those around her so she has people to support her and have her back.

Leonor has a way with words I'll tell you that. The way she writes her spicy scene are just wonderful not much but oh just enough to have me wanting more. The cute moments in-between not only the two main characters but all the characters had me giggling and kicking my feet. The ending was just the cherry on top. I wnated to cry like I was getting proposed to. My girl Evie got everything she wanted and deserved and I love that. I now realize why I dont write reviews I can't talk about books I love without spoiling them just a tad bit but that's all folks. I highly recommend you read this book to find out more. I started this book on the 12th and I've already finished it all while in a reading slump. If that's any indication for how much I loved it! I could not put this book down.

The Game by Leonor Soliz
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

I don’t know what the author put in this book but I was addicted from the very beginning.

This book grabs you from the first page, tosses you about from ONS to workplace/forced proximity to reluctant friends-to-lovers and makes you thank it for it.

Logan and Evie were perfectly flawed and complex in their own ways and their relationship pushes each of them in the direction they need to go. The dedication says it all- “This book is for all of us big girls, who need someone to find their way into our heart, and who wants a partner who can handle us.”

Evie is ridiculously relatable- she is overburdened and on the brink. I think lots of people can relate to the need to find rest but lack of mental and physical energy to figure out how to achieve that. Turns out a surprisingly emotionally intelligent grump of a QB who runs you baths and feeds you really helps.

Logan knows what he wants- he wants to finally have the found family he’s hoped for and to be successful free of the shadow of his family. Evie is an unexpected sprinkle on top who turns out to be the key to gaining everything.

I loved the entire found family of the strike team and despite knowing nothing about American football, I really rooted for them to succeed. The found family/ band of brothers camaraderie was something both the reader and Logan really needed and enjoyed. I can’t wait for the next book and I’m really hoping several of the other side characters get their own story too!

Yes the love story is the main focus and it is sweet, spicy and emotional in a scrumptious way. But in addition to this, the theme of letting people see you and the importance of friendship are really prevalent throughout this book and really important aspects to highlight.

You get a little bit more from the stars of The Kicker which we love to see and I can’t wait to see what happens in The Catch in September 2025.

Quotes that stuck with me:

“My life can’t move forward, because I don’t have the energy to figure out where the lines are with people… or even with myself.”

“I’m constantly chasing after rest”

“Figuring out this thing with Evie may be the most important game I ever play.”

“Say ‘f*ck it’ and kiss me. Break for me.”

“I got the girl.”

If it isn’t clear from the rest of this review, I blooming loved this book. To the point I put off reading the epilogue until today simply because I wasn’t ready for it to be over.

The Game is a grumpy/sunshine sports romance featuring Evie Moreno and Logan King.

Evie and Logan shared a night of passion. They went into it knowing exactly what it was - physical pleasure for one night only, no commitments. They even kept their names secret. No matter how good they were together, and they were very good together, it was a one and done. Well, one night and done. And then Evie disappeared while Logan slept, leaving him to think about her for years to come.

Now, years later, Evie works as the PR executive for the Seattle Strike and Logan King has been hired as the team's new quarterback. Selena Carmichael, the team's new owner, brings the two together where they both feign meeting one another for the first time - Evie hoping he truly doesn't remember her, and Logan delighted to have "found" her again and wondering what he can learn about her by keeping mum. Selena has lofty goals and needs Logan to achieve them. Part of what she wants is to engage the fans and get them excited. She has crafted a narrative where Logan proves himself to his team and to the fans, bringing them to the playoffs and showing the world he is the new king of football. Logan is on board, but his baseline nature is grump. He wears his scowl like a must-have accessory. Evie can work with that though. His scowl doesn't bother her. She's excellent at her job and if she plays her cards right, this might translate into a much needed promotion.

This was a really fun read. It was the first book I've read by Soliz but I definitely enjoyed it. I love that Evie is a plus size character who is confident, proud and successful. She has a big heart but has taken steps to protect it and herself. She is keen to help whenever possible but has very firm boundaries. Logan comes across as unapproachable but that's intentional - to keep folks at bay. For those he cares about though, he is a big softie. I liked the dynamic between these two characters, and definitely had fun reading their banter.

The author seemed to be laying down little tidbits leading me to believe there might be more stories forthcoming about the players of the Seattle Strike. I hope so as football players are simply scrumptious!

I received an ARC of the this book and this is my review.

A second-chance sports romance that is as emotional as it is addictive.

Logan King and Evie Moreno shared one unforgettable night back in college and never spoke again, as they both agreed. Now, three years later, fate (and football) throws them together again at the Seattle Strike, where Logan is the newly traded quarterback trying to build his career and Evie is the team's PR expert tasked with polishing his rough image.

Their chemistry is instant. Their banter is sharp, funny, and full of sparks. Neither of them forgets what happened between them, even if they try to act like they do. As they work together, every conversation, every lingering look, and every accidental touch slowly peels back the walls they have each built around their hearts.

Evie's story feels especially powerful. As the daughter of immigrants, she has been the caretaker, the translator, and the advocate for her family since she was a child. She has carried adult responsibilities for so long that putting herself first feels impossible. Being around Logan reminds her that she deserves to dream for herself too.

Logan is also fighting his own battles, desperate to step out from under the shadow of his father's legacy and finally be seen for who he really is on and off the field. With Evie, he finds a rare kind of understanding. Someone who sees all of him, not just the star quarterback.

Leonor Soliz nails the slow-burn tension, the emotional depth, and the vulnerability that make this story unforgettable. She also drops a few Easter eggs that hint at future books in this series, which I absolutely cannot wait for. If the rest of the Seattle Strike players get stories, we are all in for a treat.

The Game is about love, but it is also about choosing yourself, healing old wounds, and finding someone who truly sees and believes in you. If you love second-chance romance, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, and characters who bring out the best in each other, this book absolutely belongs on your TBR.

Tropes
✔️ Second chance
✔️ Workplace romance
✔️ Grumpy/sunshine
✔️ Forced proximity
✔️ One-night stand reunion
✔️ Found family (with teammates)
✔️ Slow burn with major payoff

First off, let me say that I think this book may have got me out of this reading slump, so I think it deserves all the praise just for that.

Second, thank you Leonor for giving me the chance to read not only your ARC but my first ARC by an indi author which was on my bucket list this year!

Okay now for the game, this is the best Leonor Soliz story I have read to date (to be fair I do have some of her catelogue still to read tho so this could change). This books started slow for me and took me until about 25% to get into it, but after Logan came to Evie’s apartment I was done for. I think it was a couple of chapters later that I started to tear up at Logan and Evie’s own person and relationship growth (which is kinda awkward when you are sittingon the middle seat of a plane while reading 😂) I also did read basically the entire book in one sitting so be warned that once you are hooked you can’t stop!

I will say, I did want to slap/yell at Evie the entire time that people who sleep together and are best friends are dating, and it’s imo the best relationship you can have! I would also yell this at any of my girlfriends who thought like Evie, so it’s all out of love ❤️

A couple things I initially struggled with in this book but eventually totally got was…

A) in the beginning I could not understand Evie taking on her parents financial struggles, but once you find out why she does it I got it. I just wished Evie could afford therapy through it all

B) this is probably a me thing, but I always have a hard time with characters who refuse to open up because I am so used to wearing my heart on my sleeve. To be fair though this is what makes their relationship and story as good as it is, so it works

Finally, I very much enjoy that Leonor happy endings in this series seems to always include a dream home… which very much is a happily ever after for my millennial heart in 2025

TLDR - this book is good, Logan and Evie are adorable, go read it now (or when it come out lol)

"Let me show you that you can let someone in. That someone wants to help. My actions are much louder than my words."

After reading Damian’s and Natalia’s short story I knew I wanted to meet Logan and Evie and boy it did not disappoint!

We meet Logan and Evie back in college where they met anonymously and ended having a one night stand which neither of them could forget. Fast forward to 6 years Evie is now the PR executive to the football team The Strike, where Logan is now going to play as the new quarterback.

Evie is the daughter to immigrant parents, she’s an only child and is the one who’s struggling with her parent’s debts. Given that she’s been the best she can has left her with some boundaries issues as well as allowing herself to have friends and find support in other people without thinking she would have to give them something back.

Logan is a grumpy and silent person, he’s arriving new to the team trying to get out of his famous father shadow and carving his own path as well as trying to open up to his teammates and creating friendship around them.

Oh boyyyyyy, I connected with these characters in a new whole level. I’m not an older child but I’ve always felt like I need to do things on my own and I’m always trying to help, I’m mostly silent and I love to stay to myself. Y’all can see how much I felt with this book right? 🥹

I absolutely loved Evie’s and Logan’s relationship. The way they kind of started as friends and then without them knowing turned into such a beautiful relationship. The way the complemented each other and learned how to communicate and open up was chefs kiss.

The found family was absolutely adorable and I cannot wait to read the rest of the boys books!!

I received an ARC of this book from the author, and this is my review.

We meet Evie and Logan back in college where a chance encounter leads to an anonymous one night stand, following Logans football game at Evies College. It's a night neither of them forget.

Fast forward to 6 years later, Evie is now a PR exec for the football team Seattle Strike. She is also trying to cope with the pressure after having to take over her parents' debt problems. Being an only daughter has left her helping with her parent's language barriers and the fallout of some bad financial decisions.

Logan arrives at the Strike as the new quarterback following a bad run for the team. He lives in the shadow of his father's successful football career and is desperate to walk his own path and have a relationship with his teammates he has previously missed out on. He also comes to face to face with the one woman he could never forget.

I really enjoyed the story of this grumpy/sunshine duo becoming reacquainted and figuring out if each other remembered their past. There was some really great banter and fun as they are forced to spend time together and some really sweet moments too as they navigate their growing feelings for each other, along side each of there own issues and responsibilities. I really loved how Logan looked after Evie when she needed it.

The teammates made some great side characters and gave us lots of fun, locker room shenanigans, ultimately becoming the found family Logan was hoping for. I am really looking forward to seeing these characters in future books.

This was a really sweet romance, with some great spicy moments and fab plus size and cultural rep. I am so glad Evie and Logan got their second chance. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Leonor Soliz is in her sports romance era and I am so here for it!!

Evie Moreno never planned to see her college one-night stand ever again. As a daughter of immigrant parents, Evie only has her eyes set on excelling in her PR career for the Seattle Strike in order to help her parents pay their debts and not lose their home. However, things quickly become messy when her one-night stand, Logan King, becomes the new Seattle Strike quarterback and her promotion depends on working with with him to rehabilitate his public image. Unlike Evie, who manages to remain professional while constantly wondering if he remembers her, Logan struggles to do the same since she’s secretly the one that got away!

Logan and Evie really took us on a rollercoaster of emotions, from them pretending to not know each other to finally confronting the rising tension! My patience kept getting tested whenever either of them would bring up “the game” they were playing since I just wanted them to get together already! Haha I had to trust the process and was not disappointed with how these characters grew and supported each other!

One of the things I enjoyed most was the “found family” element. This is something I’ve loved in Leonor’s previous series but felt it really shined in this new series with how much time the players spend together during their season. It’s also refreshing seeing men process and communicate their feelings with each other. The world would be a better place if more men did this!

I am looking forward to the rest of the series, especially Saint’s story next!

Thank you Leonor Soliz for an eARC!

The more Leonor Soliz books I read, the happier I am. After reading The Kicker (prequel novella to the Seattle Striker series) last month, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this next book and I was not disappointed.
Leonor gives us a spicy scene right off the bat, only to edge us for the next 100+ pages. And honestly…I’m not even mad at her, cause it was all worth it.
Evie is such a hyper independent woman and her rushed childhood didn’t do her any favors. Her story as the 1st gen child of immigrants is one many know in one form or another. The trauma shows in her interactions early on. Her inability to trust even her two ‘best friends’ shows just how deep that trauma goes. Luckily she finds herself with the support and love she needs and deserves.
Logan’s family background was refreshing. Although there is some tension with the relationship he has with his parents (or lack thereof), I don’t recall having yet read one like this. I was expecting an overbearing father who was abusive in some form, yada yada yada, but was happily surprised by the truth and would have loved to see a scene or two of their dynamics.
The spice was picante in this one (I could always use more though!) and Logan’s sexy demands will clearly earn him a spot on the top book bf list this year.
This story has a delightful cast of supporting characters, including some great friends on the Striker team. Leonor has all the ingredients for another wonderful series in Saint, Bear AND quiet Raf. I’m so excited to see where this series goes next!
