Roman has walked the earth for an eternity, leading his fellow fallen in the never-ending war against Lucifer and the hordes of hell’s demons. With every demon he sends back to hell and every human life saved, he hopes to one day buy their way back into heaven. But when he hears whispers that Lucifer’s found a way out of hell. It is up to Roman, and the fallen angels to stop Lucifer no matter the cost. When Roman snatches the one thing Lucifer needs a mortal woman named Charlotte, he finds out that the golden-haired, grey eyed beauty all of hell is looking for might be something he cannot destroy.
Charlotte has always lived a pretty boring life. The most exciting thing ever to happen to her is her best friend, Ava. But one day her world is thrown into chaos when she is kidnapped, and Charlotte comes to realise the monsters that have forever plagued her nightmares actually exist. As she is thrust into a hidden world of angels and demons fighting an ancient war, Charlotte finds herself drawn to the mysterious warrior leading the fallen as they try to save the world. A world whose fate has somehow ended up in her hands. Will Charlotte get the fairy tale ending she’s only ever dreamed of? Or will her life end in flames…
I loved this and absolutely ate it up 👏👏👏😍 The blurb about fallen angels immediately caught my attention and so I decided to apply for the ARC - and I am thrilled I got a copy! If it weren’t for adulting and my crippling need for sleep, I would have devoured this in one sitting!
The story offers a creative twist on the tale of Lucifer's fall, with hot morally grey fallen angels (and more) 🥵. It explores and focuses on the aftermath of the fall, throwing in all kinds of exciting, plot-twisting elements that kept me hooked and wanting to know more!
The character development? Chef’s kiss! There were so many characters, each with detailed descriptions and intriguing backstories to explore. The plot had a lot of depth while leaving room for future development, all without ever confusing or losing me.
The MMC is one of the fallen, named Roman and damn does he give off the possessive 'touch her and die' and 'she's mine' vibes 🔥The romance starts off slow with some delicious tension, but once it picked up..... it gave me literal butterflies and more! Charlotte is the sweet FMC, not quite what she seems, but a lovable character through and through (despite her questionable choices).
I really love how well written this was - it consistently painted vivid pictures in my mind, I practically felt like I was in the middle of the action and was feeling all the emotions. There were a few plot twists, and an unexpected ending..... I am already dying to get my hands on the next book!
"A dark, tattooed man with strange purple eyes came out of nowhere. He had beautiful black wings and would save her, sneak her away right before the creatures would find her."
Melanie is a debut author and I tell you, that anything she writes, I will automatically buy. Omg! This story had me hooked from the first page and all the way through to the ending. There was never a dull moment throughout and the fight scene was so good.
There were so many twists that I didn't see coming and that ending was to die for with how cute it was. I cannot wait to see what book 2 brings and which characters Melanie writes about.
This week, I fell into a modern world full of angels and demons with Melanie Jade's debut novel, Roman.
This book gave me all the call-back vibes from the first supernatural romances I ever read, with gorgeous protagonists, a push and pull attraction that is tension laden and ready to snap, an underlying plot that moves the story along smoothly and of course a love to conquer all.
Roman is a warrior angel, betrayed by his commander in heaven, thrown into the depths of hell, only to crawl out changed with a handful of his brothers and sisters. Now, they are stuck on earth fighting against a never-ending line of demons, all while trying to find a way back home. But of course, a small spanner turns up and throws Romans carefully curated life into shambles.
Charlotte is thrust into a world she knows nothing about, torn from her humdrum and meagre life straight to opulence and creatures only read about in storybooks. Her connection with Roman is instant, and it's a fight to keep their explosive attraction at bay. But more importantly, it's a race to keep Charlotte alive as she's the key to releasing something from hell that would destroy life as they know it.
I honestly loved the twist to the angel lore, how Melanie has given each escaped angel a different curse brought up from hell, to show they've been changed, that they are no longer the pure angels they had been and that they might not actually be the ethereal beings they once thought. Give me all of the morally grey angels and then some!
This was a really easy read, and the side characters were probably my favourites (Grigori, anyone??) So if you are seeking a book with:
- touch her and die - angels and demons - insta-connection - fated mates - morally grey angels - he falls first - betrayals - twist on traditional angel lore - multiple POV - blonde MMC (yay for the rep!)
Then you'll want to check this one out!
Thanks again to both Melanie and Krystal for the opportunity to arc read! I can't wait to see who the second book is about!
I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to read this as an ARC, thank you, Melanie Jade!
This book was exactly what I needed, even though I didn’t realise it until now!
I spent the end of 2023 and all of 2024 completely immersed in The Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown, and every book I picked up after that left me feeling like something was missing.
I’ve loved books, I’ve fallen in love with characters, but Roman reignited that thrill and adrenaline rush I’d been craving.
This story intricately weaves the classical biblical tale of fallen angels into a supernatural world, creating something truly captivating.
It’s fast-paced, high-action, and absolutely gripping from the first page to the last.
I have so many theories and cannot wait for more books in this series! Melanie Jade’s ability to juggle multiple characters, especially in action scenes, was so well-executed, and the ending? I did not see that coming.
And the best line?
“And that is why he is my favourite immortal in the house.”
We all need a Grigori in our lives! But if you want to know why, you need to read this book!
Fallen angels, the battle between Heaven and Hell, and a woman who is integral to both factions becomes the exciting paranormal romance Roman, the first book in The Fallen series by author Melanie Jade. MMC Roman was once a commander in the almighty’s army serving with his General Lucifer. When Lucifer challenged the almighty and was banished, those under his command were too. Over time Roman and his brother Maalik had fought their way out of Hell along with others, managing to rise to the surface. For as long as she can remember MFC Charlotte has experienced nightmares filled with monsters so realistic she wakes in terror every time. When Roman and Charlotte’s lives intertwine a whirlwind of the supernatural, action, adventure, prophecy, danger, intrigue, surprises, and romance converge in a well written, entertaining story as Charlotte becomes the hunted key Lucifer needs to free himself from Hell, and Roman her protector and love. Excellent world building in an immersive plot kept me engaged and I look forward to more future stories in this series.

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't earth-shattering for me but it was a nice read. I quite like the author's take on Lucifer's story and the Fallen Angels.
One of the things I appreciated about this book was the complexity of the characters. Roman was interesting and the development and knowledge we have of his background happen throughout the book (maybe a bit too late). Charlotte's was a bit too classical for me. A naive girl falling for the hot guy, but it works in the story settings.
The plot itself is relatively classic but the end was not at all what I was expecting. It's the first book in a series so we can imagine each book might explore a different couple. I will be reading the next one if I can.
If you like: (Hot) Fallen Angels - and they are rich Fated Mates Touch her and Die
>>Pick up this book. It's a nice distraction from reality. It's open-door, so read the trigger warnings, it has also some gore and blood.
I received an ARC of this book from this author. This review is my own and I'm leaving it voluntarily.
Roman is a gripping, fast-paced read that masterfully weaves together a diverse cast of characters, each with their own compelling storylines. The plot is engaging and well-constructed, with various supernatural and biblical elements keeping readers invested in the characters' journeys.
Melanie's ability to craft intense moments and complex characters is impressive for her debut novel. The "touch her and die" dynamic between Roman and Charlotte is palpable, exuding a strong sense of danger and possession.
However, the central romance between Roman and Charlotte feels somewhat rushed, lacking the gradual build-up that would have added depth to their relationship. Despite this, the story's momentum and the characters' development make up for this shortcoming.
The novel concludes on a satisfying note for now 😉. Overall, this book is a thrilling page-turner that will have you waiting to see how the story unfolds next. Appealing to fans of character-driven fiction, fantasy and romance.

This is an interesting twist on the fall from Heaven. Roman and a number of the fallen had crawled their way out of hell and continue the fight against Lucifer and hell’s demons, saving human lives when possible, always hoping that they can work themselves back to Heaven. When Roman finds out that Lucifer can escape from hell somehow through a woman named Charlotte, he needs to figure out what to do about her. Charlotte is not evil. She has always had nightmares, but never thought they could be prophetic. When she is kidnapped, she realizes those nightmares may actually be real. Charlotte feels a draw toward a warrior who is trying to fight the evil. And somehow she fits into whatever is going to happen. She has no idea where she will end up in this fight. But Roman finds himself the protector when Charlotte is the key to Lucifer’s freedom and Lucifer must never get his hands on her. Will she be saved? Or will she find herself wrapped in flames?
- angels and demons - he falls first - fated mates - touch her and unalived - morally grey MMC
You guys, this was soo good. If you were a fan of the TV show Lucifer with Tom Ellis- you will love this book. it is fast paced and action packed.
We have fallen angels, demons, a FMC who didn't know any of this existed before meeting Roman. The lore was so good, like how each angel brought about different beings like Lycans and Vampires, etc. The side characters are all amazing and add so much to the story and I can't wait for each to get their own book!
This is going to be such a good series (don't worry, it does have a HEA for our two main characters in this book but there is absolutely more to the overall story.
There are fallen angels living on earth. They protect human beings, by killing the demons. Roman, and his family own a club. Roman sees Charlotte serving drinks at a bar. He is immediately attracted to her. Charlotte is kidnapped from her home. Roman, and his brothers rescue her. They find out Lucifer wants her as a sacrifice. This ritual allows Lucifer to leave hell. Roman swears to protect her. There are wars going on between fallen angels, demons, werewolves, and witches. This book has magic, spells, violence, death, secrets, passion, and love. I enjoyed reading this book!!!! The storyline flows well, and the characters are well developed. This book engages the reader from the start.

From Angels and Demons, to witches and prophecies, to vampires and lycans this book brings the supernatural to life.
Charlotte is thrust into the supernatural world against her will and must come to terms with what’s going on asap. Roman the sexy commander of The Almighty’s army who is apart of the fallen. Yep the fallen angels from Heaven to Hell to Earth but they all changed. Their journey out of Hell was not an easy one and now they must band together to protect charlotte from their brother, lucifer.
A fast paced, action packed read. Thank you Melanie and Krystal for allowing me to read this as an arc

I loved this story with Roman who was an angel he was one of Lucifer’s commanders and we know what happened in the end where Lucifer and his angels became the fallen now Roman and his soldiers are on earth to save the humans, when Charlotte was a little girl she had terrible dreams Roman was there to save her but Charlotte thought that they were just horrible dreams how wrong she was. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend reading this book.
Who doesn't want to get lost in the world of these fallen angels in there fight to get back into heaven. I loved the characters, and I loved Roman and his love for Charlotte in his fight to keep her safe with the help of his brothers also fallen angels in the world she has been dragged into a world of which she knew nothing about. Looking forward to reading more of this new author and her fallen angels world. Highly recommend having a read of this new author and getting lost in the world of fallen angels if only for a little while.
Just finished Roman by Melanie Jade and honestly, I couldn’t put it down 🙌 Roman is that perfect mix of broody, protective, and totally swoony, but with so much depth underneath. And Charlotte? I loved her! She goes from living a normal life to being thrown straight into this war between angels and monsters, and she handles it with so much strength.
The chemistry between them is 🔥 and I was hooked on every moment—action, danger, romance, all the emotions. It’s fast-paced, addictive, and now I just need more from this world asap.
Roman is the leader of Lucifer's army. Unknowingly following Lucifer and obeying his orders he causes him and his army to fall. Lucifer the great deceiver has taken there heavenly home condemning them to hell. Many of the fallen angels had escaped and are trying to defeat the demons who have come to earth. A very fast paced and action packed book. Great characters and visual descriptions.

I love myself a good paranormal story. This one is about fallen angels, demons and an interesting take on the story of Lucifer. I liked this one, it was entertaining and a decent read. I suspect that we'll see much more from this group and stories for most of them, this author building a world. The writing was good and the story leaves enough unanswered to draw you to the next in the series. I give it 3.5 stars.
Whew, what a start to a series! I can tell this is going to be an amazing multibook adventure that goes deep into Angel/demon mythology. I really enjoyed this story, getting to know Roman and Charlotte and taking guesses at future main characters. This was a fantastic debut and I look forward to more in the series.
This was an interesting take on the fallen angels and I truly liked it. Roman was one of Lucifer's warriors and when Lucifer fell so did Roman and his warriors. Charlotte is the daughter of Lucifer and a fallen angel but her angel heritage is hidden so that nobody knows she exists. What happens when these two find each other? Can they both survive what is to come?
The plot of this book was great and I loved every second of it. I read it in just a few short hours. The characters were well thought out and well developed. There were a few points where I got confused because of all the characters involved in the scene. It had a good flow to it and the pace worked well with the story.
I look forward to reading more from this series. I need to know what happens with not only these characters but some of the other side characters. Another new author for me and I look forward to reading more by them soon.
