Goddess War #3

Ungodly: A Novel

Rate this book
As ancient immortals are left reeling, a modern Athena and Hermes search the world for answers in Ungodly, the final Goddess War novel by the acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood.

For the Goddess of Wisdom, what Athena didn't know could fill a book. That's what Ares said. So she was wrong about some things. So the assault on Olympus left them beaten and scattered and possibly dead. So they have to fight the Fates themselves, who, it turns out, are the source of the gods' illness. And sure, Athena is stuck in the underworld, holding the body of the only hero she has ever loved. But Hermes is still topside, trying to power up Andie and Henry before he runs out of time and dies, or the Fates arrive to eat their faces.

And Cassandra is up there somewhere, too. On a quest for death. With the god of death. Just because things haven't gone exactly according to plan, it doesn't mean they've lost. They've only mostly lost. And there's a big difference.

So, I write books. The Anna Dressed in Blood duo is horror, The Goddess War trilogy is mythology, and Three Dark Crowns is fantasy, because the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you, may not be right for some. Love to read, too. Fiction, philosophy, good books, bad books, because you take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have a stack of books and stuff. I mean, you've got to be adventurous. There's more to life that what you're living, so take a chance and face the wind.

There's more coming soon like ALL THESE BODIES and a new fantasy series, so don't waste another minute on your cryin. We're nowhere near the end.

My likes include animals, food, and nostalgia. I mean, whatever happened to predictability? The milkman, the paperboy, the evening TV? Used to be everywhere you look, there's a heart, a hand to hold on to.

Anyway, I love to hear from readers so drop me a line here or at my website and we'll talk about friends to know, and ways to grow, and how if you threw a party you would see that the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say, thank you for being a friend.

We can also talk about all the sitcom theme songs in this bio. Sha la la la.

Those of us who’ve been waiting for Ungodly with bated breath knew right from the start that this would not be a lighthearted conclusion. Greek gods come and do as they please and they tend to leave nothing but blood in their wake. So when you put those gods in the hands of someone like Kendare Blake, an author known for her talent in writing blood and gore, a bloody battle is pretty much what you’re going to get.

Our heroes, separated in battle, find themselves in three different places, fighting different fights. Hermes, Andy and Henry don’t know whether Athena and Cassandra survived. Athena herself is in Underworld, half crazed by Odysseus’s death. And Cassandra is just a ball of murderous rage, ready to kill all the gods, friends and foes alike. They each have their own adventures and trials, and it’s not until the second half that they collide.

Like in the two previous installments, I found Athena to be the most interesting character by far. This time she faces tremendous loss, more than she can bear, and she approaches it like she approaches everything, with no regard for her own safety. Her adventure in the Underworld is my favorite part of this book and her romance with a certain not-quite-mortal the thing that warmed my heart the most. A few more complex characters were added in this final installment, and several unlikely allies showed us a different side.

Characterization isn’t the only thing that Kendare Blake does extraordinarily well. Her descriptions are beautiful and precise and she doesn’t shy away from anything, no matter how bloody or painful it may be. With one goddess coughing up feathers, another’s skin stretched out for miles in the desert, and an emaciated god who keeps eating enormous amounts of food to no avail, there’s plenty of imagery to keep us occupied and grossed out.

The most important part of this trilogy and especially its final installment is the deep emotional impact it has on the reader. Kendare doesn’t always make it easy to sympathize with the gods, but she gives us just enough to become invested in their fates. The conflicting emotions we feel for them, our struggle between love and hate, is reflected perfectly in the characters of those few humans around them.

Now that it’s over, I’m going to miss the Antigoddess trilogy very much, but I am even now excited for Kendare Blake’s next project. She has the most amazing ideas and she truly knows how to carry them out. You really can’t go wrong by choosing one of her books.

I find Cassandra, at this point in the story, to be unbearably annoying.

I was super excited to find out how this trilogy ended and was hoping for some sort of reveal or big twist... Which didn't happen. There was too much dialogue and planning for something that was supposed to be an epic long battle at the end. I was sadly mistaken. I wanted something more from the plot. Maybe a twist or two that would help.

There was a lot of running around with false leads, trying to find out who was behind the reasoning behind the decay of The Gods. It wasn't too much of a surprise and after it was revealed, I didn't really care. It was also nice to see Hades but I was sad it was such a small part. For some reason I always have a small spot for Hades.

Overall, it was a good ending, but I wanted to have this huge long epic battle where some characters died, so I could mourn the loss.. That already happened in book one unfortunately.

RATING 3/5

QUOTES

"Maybe I'm imagining it. Or maybe he was groping me with his death brain tentacles."

"You can't change fate."

"Death would be kinder if they forgot. But death was rarely kind."

"I'm here because a girl with a broken heart came looking. And I have a soft spot for girls with broken hearts."

"I've never had to seduce a woman in my life. They see me and fall into my lap."

This ending gave me an ulcer!
My anxiety over the contents in Ungodly was so strong, I had to get up, walk away and yell at the characters just to decompress.
A stunning ending to an amazing adventure!!!

I freaking LOVE this series so much!!!!! Even though I don't want it to be over it ended as well as it could. Well, except ) And I'm happy with the ending. I still hate Cassandra. She's a rude little bitch. I'm still not sure if the author wanted us readers to like her or not. I realize Athena is the the Virgin Goddess and all but I seriously wanted her to finally give it up to Odysseus!!
One of my favorite parts? The arrival of Hades. I like these books more than I liked Anna Dressed in Blood which means I'll read anything Kendare Blake writes.

This was an very satisfying ending the to trilogy. I mean Cassandra has her dumb moments but overall it was a very good series with a great plot and amusing take on some of mythology’s entertaining characters. Loved this series.

My quick and simple overall: fun and intriguing series.

What the actual fuck did I just read? This whole trilogy...I have no idea what to think of it. I'm not sure if I liked it or disliked it. All I know is that I sped through this thing, eager for the conclusion.

Alright, something I need to rant about. Achilles is the bad guy? NOOOOOOO!!!! *screams* I acknowledge that Achilles is a proud, stubborn asshole, but goddamnit Song of Achilles really endeared me to him. I cannot stand that he is the antagonist. And he didn't even turn back to the good side!

Cassandra is one of the the most annoying, whiny little shitheads I have ever had to read about. Damn her. Yeah, I get that she lost people she cared about and hates the gods. But maybe if she actually went around killing them instead of just whining and promising she would kill them I would've found her more interesting. She's annoying and also boring. I also really don't like Henry, because he's so boring. It doesn't help that he is the reincarnation of Hector, whom I despise (because Patroclus is my favorite character). Athena is actually quite boring. And I'm disappointed. And I heavily disapprove of the romance between her and Odysseus. A large part of the mythology surrounding her is that she's a virgin. That may sound terrible and sexist, but she choose to live that way so it's fine. I don't approve of messing with the original mythology just so we can have a love story. Fuck that.

I also feel like saying one more time: I don't like Apollo in this trilogy. He never did anything to endear himself to me.

Characters I don't want to kill: Ares (yeah! He finally switched to the good side!), Hermes, Calypso, Odysseus

Um, that ending? Idk what to think of it. I mean, it was satisfying to see the conflict end but I'm still hung up over Achilles being their enemy.

Tl;dr version- So, this was a rollercoaster. I didn't like a lot of characters. But I loved a few, the plot was exciting, the writing was gory and bloody and at the same time kind of beautiful. And I'm glad things finally got settled out.

(1) I really don't like how Athena reacts to the crisis of , I mean it's sad I know, but must you abandon your allies right after this thing happens!?

(2) I like how Cassandra develops through the story and I also like she isn't a character with a lily-white consciousness,

(3) I like Athena's relationship with Ares and Hermes a lot.

(4) Ares' relationship with Aphrodite is quite good too, although Aphrodite is a crazy little shit the whole time. XD

(5) But what is the deal with Persephone's body being half dead and half rotting when she is in the underworld!? I think it's Hel who happens to have a half rotting body instead of Persephone!

(6) I like little known Greek mythological beings like The Moerae and Calypso etc are also in the story!

(7) Thanatos is totally cool.

(8) I also like

(9) But honestly, where the hell is when the gods are all in big trouble!?

(10) Last but not least I think by the end of the story there are still a number of unanswered questions and many of the characters could have gotten more developments.

A pretty solid ending to a fun series.

Mortal Gods ended in a monster of a cliffhanger. While some time has passed since that ending, Ungodly pretty much picks up at the same pace. All of our heroes are split, from California to the Underworld. And alliances are forming between previous rivals that I never thought would happen.

What I really liked about this installment was how Blake took everything we already knew about this war and sides, and flipped it on its head. People think that war is so black and white, and Blake really took the time to show those icky grey parts in the middle. As more and more information was getting revealed, motives changed even if ends goals remained the same. Because of this, previous enemies become allies to help each other survive.

I enjoyed the new characters we met in this one. Thanatos was a delight and made me warm up to Cassandra a bit - cause let's be honest, she kind of just became this petulant child who refused to listen to anyone. And it's really hard for me to back someone who refuses to listen and learn from others. But all of the other characters grew and really challenged themselves which I appreciated.

There was more loss and more betrayals. There were also some heartwarming moments and some shocking moments. I felt that it was a very fitting ending to this series and I'm happy that I read it. I'm also super happy that

What a great way to end a series 😍

I'm going to miss reading about these characters. Blake dos an awesome job with putting a modern day spin on the Greek gods and their problems.

This series is much better than her Three Dark Crowns. If you're trying to decide between the two, I would definitely recommend this ones we the other.

Here we go again, for the last time.

I always feel a bitter-sweet sensation in ending a beloved book series, and this time is no exception. I had grew fond of these characters, I knew that, but I hadn't figured out that it would have been so sad to let them go after this last act.

I am really satisfied with this last book. Each piece has fallen into the place that belonged to it till the beginning, and even though this result was possible only after so much despair and blood, it was worth it.
The plot proceeded linear but it was still really intriguing, even though I had no doubts about this. K. Blake once again proved that she really can scare the s*** out of me. Really, she has a talent. She was able to write scenes that still make me feel shivers down my spine and think "what the hell" . I was so glad she decided to give central importance to the Underworld once again, because I like everything about it: the way she has built it, the cool descriptions, its inhabitants , in particular Persephone and Hades (so cute!), and, in this case, the trials our heroes had to pass down there. I really loved that part.

What I was really looking forward was meeting the old characters again, and see what had become of them, since I left them in a such precarious situation.
This time I really found Cassandra annoying. There's a limit for everything, and she clearly overtook it. I couldn't relate to her choices from the beginning to almost the end, because essentially I can't stand her "if you want something done, do it yourself" because that's not how life always works, in particular in a war where your family and friends could die because you did not tell them your plan -I will not say much else because it would be right a spoiler. I forgive her just because eventually everything that I had wanted happened and everyone was happy, otherwise I would have given this book less stars.
Many of them went trough not only physical challengers but also moral and psychological ones. Many of them changed, became more aware of themselves and of the importance of those around them. One of the things I liked the most was that, due to the impending and probable death, they finally understood that cooperate to get rid of the common enemy was the only possible solution, and this led to the inevitable attachments that working together under pressure brings, and the affection that led to creation of a real family. Almost all of this, of course, with the obvious exception of Cassandra.
One little note about Andie and Henry: I know I never cared much about them -not my fault that the "gods part" is much more interesting- but in this book they really earned their importance. I could appreciate them more, and I am glad that I had the chance before it was over .

New and interesting characters were introduced in this book as well.
First of all, Thanatos. Hey there, you pretty boy, I'm talking about you. Yes, I may have a little crush on him. Not only because I always found him a cool god, but also because he seemed to care about Cassandra in a way the others often didn't.
Hephaestus. I liked him since the beginning, and I was right. High five.
The Furies. K. Blake made a really good work with them, they were truly frightening.

The epilogue of a book, in particular of a "last book" like this one, can really be the critical point for me to decide what vote I will give to the book. This time, I was not totally happy. My dear characters were safe and sound, everything seemed to have settled down and their lives were definitely back into their road to normality, but when I finished that last chapter I had a feeling of incompleteness and, worst of all, the sensation that they had become estranged again. I know it's not right, but "I can't get this madness out of my mind", and, so, it makes me sad. I'm not saying that they should live all together happy ever after, that would not be realistic, but this? And there are still so many questions left unsolved for me. I don't know. I had great hopes for this epilogue and I will not deny that it disappointed part of them.

Still, I will always remember with smiles and laughters these books and their characters.

One of the BEST SERIES I HAVE EVER READ. I plan on just just doing a review for the whole series - it’s just one of the best I have had the pleasure to read and it took me so long bc I didn’t want it to end. I’m actually having a book hangover from it. Nothing compares. RTC.

WHERE WAS ZEUS??? He just bailed, like he didn't exist. He was mentioned a couple of
times in passing throughout the series and no one knew where he was. It seems to me that that should have been one of the questions that should have been answered somewhere in the series. I mean, WAS he dead? Was he sitting somewhere watching everything, eating a hamburger and laughing every time the goddess of WISDOM did something stupid. What was the deal with that? Why was Athena so stupid? I mean I get that she was like "not a real god anymore" or whatever but really? Millennia of being the freaking embodiment of smartness and now she can't seem to do anything sensibly! Ugh!

Another question that the author forgot to answer: what happens to gods when they die? It was such a big part of the second book and she never bothered to tell us. What the heck?

And why were some of the gods' illnesses relevant to them and others' weren't? Like Athena was growing owl feathers, which I guess makes sense since her animal was the owl (even though i think she should have been losing her mind, because she was the goddess of wisdom). And Ares' battle wounds reopened. Even Apollo's death kiinnda made sense because he lived with people so long. But why was the Messenger God's flesh eating itself? Or Hera turning to stone? Or Aphrodite going crazy with bruises? None of those relate to who they were! I can think of such better things than that. Like really. Aphrodite aging or losing beauty. Hermes slowing down, like even his organs or whatever. And I don't know for Hera....

Also, why did the Fate of Death all of a sudden become insane and want to kill everyone? There was absolutely no basis whatsoever! It was just like she woke up one day like, "Hmm maybe I'm just going to commit god-genocide today". Sorry. Not buying it.

Why did Cassandra all of a sudden become a psycho murderer? I get that she was an angry complicated character, but she just started attacking everyone and everything. I just don't understand.

All in all, there were too many holes and unanswered questions for me to truly enjoy this series.

3.5*

Although I liked this series as a whole, this last book lacked a bit of luster that its predecessors were filled with to the brim. I was hoping for a faster pace with a lot more action, especially after the mind blowing cliffhanger in book two! But what I got was a very very slow build to something that was just anticlimactic.
I still liked the story though and I was happy with the outcome of all the characters.
The connection between Thanatos and Cassandra was electric. Although Cassandra kept pouring water over the charge to demolish it, she couldn't keep it from reigniting. And I was at the edge waiting for her to finally surrender to the inevitable.
Odysseus and Athena brought life to a love that was suffocating for their attention. Although I didn't really relate to her character (or any of the female characters for that matter) I still wanted the virgin goddess to get her man and be happy :)

All in all it was a good read and I'm satisfied (but not overjoyed) with the ending.

Ok so I’ve read the whole series and overall it’s not bad. I love reading anything to do with Gods and Goddesses, also princes and duke’s but that’s irrelevant. I’m a bit confused about my feelings about this trilogy tbh, on the one hand it was more interesting or at least less depressing than that Goddess series thing by P.C. Cast, on the other Cassandra is/was one of ‘those’. And by that I mean the annoying, whiny, all talk no… well you know, sort of main character that didn’t engender love.
Then again while I find it ridiculous that Thanatos is into Ms. Annoying perfect panties Cassandra I also thought he was sorta hot. Also Ares. Also Hermes.
Confusion is me. 3.5 stars rounding up. Tired now.

**SPOILERS FOR ANTIGODDESS AND MORTAL GODS**

Ungodly is the third and final book in the Goddess War trilogy, and wew, what a finale! After the events of Mortal Gods, Cassandra and Calypso are on the road, on the hunt of more Gods in Cassandra's quest to kill all the Gods. They are presumed dead by the rest of the group, as is Athena, who was last seen jumping from Olympus with Odysseus's body after he was murdered. Will the group ever be reunited? Will Cassandra follow through with her plan to assassinate all the Gods? How will this crazy trilogy end???

I believe it's better to go into this book knowing only what has happened in the past two books, as I did, because there's some crazy shit going down in this book.

As I've said many times, I don't care for , and my dislike was even more present in this book. I understand that maybe there's reasons for how she acts, but I just hate her. Is it bad I was praying for death towards the end of the book? .

Again, I didn't understand why we had so much of

Overall, a great end to the trilogy!

My review

Wow, just wow. This book... my gods Kendare Blake hands down to you! You are a living legend in the world of YA Lit, the legendary author who know how to totally mess up with readers feels and emotions and knows how to make her readers hold their breath every time they read the next sentence, turn the next page, and look forward to the next chapter.

I love how Blake wrapped up the series with this book. The intensity of the scenes are almost unbearable that I have to stop reading and breath, it's so fast-paced and action packed, sometimes frightening and overall amazing! There are no boring scenes in this book, it got me hooked til the very last page. I like how the characters struggle against themselves, against the enemy, against their feelings. I love watching all those gods squirm and loose hope while Cassandra rages and be the gods' killing machine that she is. Whoa, that ending was so gruesome... So many graphic violence in this book, so bloody I love it!

I'm so nervous when I started reading the book, I mean this is Kendare Blake people, we don't know if what she'll do with her characters. Will she kill that one to make this one suffer but stronger? Is she gonna throw a plot twist in this peaceful scene? She's unpredictable like that.

I never actually thought how much I enjoyed and loved having Hermes in the story until the point where he's already so close to dying. And oohh, for some reason I find Thanatos a total hottie even though he's like real cold, and he kind of reminded me of Noah Shaw because of his appearance. But anyways, I love how everything turn out in the end especially for Athena. Cassandra, I'm so happy for her and so proud for staying so strong. Those two are really amazing characters.

There's also this "This is the last book, but wait... there's more." element in Ungodly. That there are still some unsolved cases in the story (I'm looking at you Achilles), but hey this is Kendare Blake, you know how she drove the readers crazy asking for another Anna book.

I rate it:

After a very busy week, I’ve finally managed to finish Kendare Blake’s Ungodly! It was quite a surprising end to the trilogy. I had so many theories and possibilities all planned out in my head and I don’t think any of them turned out right! LOL!

The start of this book was chaos, as in everything was chaotic with all the characters separated and doing their own thing. It was crazy! Yet I was enjoying it! We have Cassandra on a mission with Calypso trying to find Hades, because basically, Cassandra just wants to kill all the gods now. She’s mad and she’s planning to get even! Their first stop is to find Thanatos, god of death because who better to help kill a god then a god of death and a god killer of course!

Then we have Athena who is in the underworld as she protects a dying Odysseus. Hermes, Henry, and Andie who are topside are trying to find Athena. And of course everyone is still reeling with the betrayal of Achilles as he joins the Fates. There’s a war on the horizon, one that’s been coming for a long time now and its outcome will change everything!

This book was filled with so many surprises! I don’t want to get into the nit and gritty details, but let’s just say the characters were making surprising decisions that I didn’t see coming at all!

The beginning part of the book was perhaps the most chaotic as our group was so heavily divided. We basically hop from group to group to see what they’re doing and the chapters had the tendency to always end with some sort of cliffhanger! Then we’d go right back to another person and we’re left waiting to read through two more groups to see what they’re doing before getting back to group 1 and their cliffhanger! It made for suspenseful reading that’s for sure!

I think what surprised me the most by this series (and really can only go off of these last two books since I can’t remember the first book!) was the lack of romance. It’s rare that I come across a book with very little romance in it. Sure there was always tension between Athena and Odysseus and Calypso was in love with Odysseus as well. Though there was rarely ever any stolen moments. Perhaps a kiss here or there, but other than that. Nada. And oddly enough I was okay with that! Would’ve I had liked more? Well sure, but romance didn’t really fit with the story when you think about it. It was about survival and when it came down to it, family. And that’s a whole other kind of love, and one I was happy to see in this one!

Characters you thought you had pegged down will surprise you completely in this book. You think you might know what they would do in X situation, but again, the outcome will definitely throw you through a loop! I loved that! I loved how many twists and turns this one took! It wasn’t out bloodshed and tears though. So prepare yourselves! This will be an ending you won’t see coming!

Overall Rating 4/5 stars

What a fantastic final book for this trilogy! As action filled and creepy and gory as the other two, or maybe a lil more! Kendare Blake doesn't pull any punches, so prepare yourself for a wild ride!

With the evil cliffhanger ending that we were left after Mortal Gods, the trepidation of what might happen in this one was real, so much that I read a sampler with the 10 first chapters because I NEEDED TO KNOW!

I will do my best to be as spoiler free for the whole series and this book in particular as possible, but I'm not sure how well I'll do about previous books in the series spoilers. If you haven't started the series read on at your own risk, and really... go and read the books now!

We follow three different story paths at the beginning of the book, and as usual Cassandra was the one I had more issues relating to, she's so angry and so irrational AND seriously so angry and out of control... But as this book progressed I felt like I could understand her better and not being so rubbed the wrong way.

Athena has been my fave character I'm pretty sure throughout the whole series (although dear Andie and Hermes are also firm candidates in the top 3 of favourites) and I really liked how her character development worked in this book. She's found herself in a very vulnerable position she would have never expected herself to be, and dealing with her possible mortality has been a severe kick in the arse!

Kendare's writing is as visual and compelling as always. She doesn't shy away of the blood and gore, and I think she might have kicked it up a notch in this final book. I kept on fearing for all the characters because you cannot be sure about who will survive by the end of the day, or how they will survive!

There were certainly quite a few plot twists and turns in the story that I was NOT expecting and even how they played out ended up being unexpected! Some things I think I should have seen coming but I didn't and in that respect I was at the same level of the characters!

We get some new characters, quite fascinating all of them, some more than others of course and we see some of the old ones with new eyes. Unexpected allies and gods changing sides, unexpected deaths and near deaths and not deaths! Battles and shields and fevers and shears... You'll keep on turning the pages waiting for the other shoe to drop... and boy, do they drop!

After that shocker of an ending I was extremely happy for the epilogue that we get! We don't get all the answers but we have enough closure to be satisfied!

Very well deserved 5 stars to this final book in the trilogy that cements Kendare Blake as an auto-buy author for me!

So, I see again and again these books with the label horror. Which is strange to me. There's really nothing more horrific than any other Greek myth. If you've never gone through 7th grade English, yeah terrifying.

One thing you should know about this series is most Greek myths have several different versions. The author here doesn't always take the most well known or popular version which can be a bit confusing. Also the gods don't act like you'd expect. Athena, goddess of wisdom, kinda an idiot most of the time.

There was a lot of original potential, but I think it was squandered. Most of the final two books were traveling. Back and forth.

One personal annoyance is the series is mostly set in a fictional town in Upstate New York. As someone from Western New York it was off. For example. The author describes Buffalo as this crumbling old industrial town. Nobody wants that description for the area they live, but it's not accurate for Buffalo. Maybe 10, 20 years ago when the steel plant shut down. But the Buffalo the author describes doesn't exist. The grungy water front of the book is in reality a vibrant park with wi-fi and cultural activities.

This book also did the whole, second book-here's a gay character thing. In the first book there's a brief mention that Hermes wasn't into whores, but by book three he's a stereotype (everybody is dying but he still found time to shampoo the rugs?) Let's say you're for gay rights...he's literally the only character in the series who doesn't find a special someone. No matter what side of the issue you're on, this theme that pops up again and again seems insulting.

Athena and Odysseus, Odysseus and Calypso. Calypso dies btw. Because the author wants to crush anything good. She's been loyal and helpful for millennium. Kill her off. Central to being Athena is her chastity and virginity. Why does that have to be lost in order to resolve this story?

Cassandra. A lot of people complain about how she's moody. I think I'd be moody too if the love of my life had a tree shoved through his chest. Maybe a bit murderous. What I don't like is that there's this rush to pair her off with someone else. Enter god of death. Who looks like a vampire? That's a bit played out and obvious isn't it? In the end it's implied she doesn't have her powers anymore. I don't understand that. Because the fates are dead? Well they made everybody else the way they are. Why is it only Cassandra is now normal?

I could go on, but frankly I'm glad to be moving on from this series.

Okay so let me get this straight
Zeus just doesn't exist... ever.
And Atropos is just... dying.
And Thanatos just can't... die.
And Aidan is never given any justice and I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY ODY WAS SO STRONG AND FOR SOME REASON CASSANDRA'S PARENTS NEEDED TO FIND OUT ABOUT HER POWERS AND
HHHHH
This book was annoying because it didn't answer any questions that the series set up and also I am tired of white gods that serve no purpose other than to be plot fodder. Also where is Hercules?! Why wouldn't they consider finding Patrolocus in the under world and even Aidan as well? Why did no one THINK?

Ares is now best boy you are welcome.

The series started with the promise of epicness, but there was no epic battle, no big revelation, no character that lived up to their potential. We never got even a hint as to the reason of the Fates' pleague, the rest of the Gods' whereabouts or even sufficient world-building. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the books, but at times I had trouble deciding if it was supposed to be about a war of godly proportions or just some highschool kids wandering here and there.

I really wanted to like these. I feel like every time I read a Kendare Blake book I want to write on her report card "Not living up to her potential." She has great ideas, but this book was so indescribably dull.

I will give her this, though, she is great at gore.
