From the bestselling author of Can I Tell You Something? comes the final novel in the Sunshine Book Club series.
Stick to the plan, and everything will go your way, right? Right?
English teacher and self-improvement addict, Megan Porter, has carefully crafted goals for the year ahead; get promoted, have adventures with her friends, and find true love after a painful breakup.
Across town, twenty-three-year-old Ollie Mortimer’s year is off to a rocky start. Desperate to escape his snobby parents' expectations, he's converting a beat-up campervan, and his only friend is his boss.
Megan’s plans unravel when her roommate moves out, and an injury lands her in hospital. Her protective father insists Ollie, his most loved employee, moves in to keep an eye on her. Neither is thrilled, but despite their initial clashes, and nine-year age-gap, they slowly find common ground through shared meals and late-night conversations.
When they are mistaken for a couple, Megan surprises Ollie by playing along - a game that quickly becomes impossible to stop.
Torn between her careful plans and the allure of adventure, is Megan willing to rewrite her future for a chance at true happiness?
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC for this book and I absolutely devoured it, I loved both characters and their story so much and caught myself smiling so many times throughout the book.🥰
What to expect: ✨ his boss’s daughter ✨ reverse age gap (9 years) ✨ strangers to roommates to lovers ✨ forced proximity ✨ fake dating (very briefly) ✨ only one bed (very briefly) ✨ third act breakup ✨ dual POV ✨ HEA 🌶️ 2.5/5
Ollie: If I had to choose a soundtrack for him it would be …Ready For It? by Taylor Swift: younger than my exes but he act like such a man, so 😉 In all seriousness though, if his age wasn’t mentioned I never would have guessed he was only 23. He was definitely more mature, better at communicating his feelings and more reliable than many other guys that have years on him. I loved the way he cared for Megan and how happy he made her. He really sees her and I especially appreciated him standing up for her to her friends because he knew she wouldn’t. He is serious book boyfriend material in so many ways. 🫶🏼
Megan: I found her to be so relatable, not only because she is a socially awkward, people pleasing book lover like me (though I really enjoyed the bookish lingo throughout the book) 😅 but also because this story gets a very important point across that I think many people especially women often struggle with. We all know we can’t actually plan out our lives but consciously or not we still have expectations either set by ourselves or others of what our life has to look like. Megan is clinging to her ideas of a perfect life and focuses on how far from her goals she still is. Plus she feels somewhat left behind since her friends are already living the life she wants for herself. But what we want is not always what we need and her struggle to come to terms with that and opening up to new ways was very believable in my opinion. It was so beautiful to see her finding her HEA in the person she least expected. 🥰
Hattie & Kara: First off, I haven’t read their books yet, so I only know about them what I read in Megan’s book. I don’t know if that would have changed my opinion but I don’t think so. I just don’t like it when people get into a relationship and just forget about their (single) friends. I felt so bad for Megan at times and I was so happy when Ollie gave them a piece of his mind because he was thinking exactly what I was thinking the entire time. I would have wished for them to put in a little more effort after that than just Kara reaching out once, but either way, they seemed to be in a better place in the end and I’m happy about that.
Overall I absolutely enjoyed Megan’s & Ollie’s story. Mark April 22nd in your calendar, that’s when this book comes out and pick it up! 🤍
I think I may have found the perfect book boyfriend, and his name is Ollie Mortimer.
First off, I am a huge fan of HJS' writing, and have thoroughly enjoyed the Sunshine Book Club series. This book is the perfect final installment to this lovely series and our three heroines!
Second of all, I have to give snaps to Miss Holly for including a RECAP of the first two books at the start of the book! Can I get a hell yeah?! It has been a minute since the last b book came out, and like many of you I'm sure, my memory of even my favorite books lasts about as long as Dory from Finding Nemo. Thank you for including this recap, let's normalize more of this in a book series!
Right from chapter 1, I immediately identified with Megan's personality and am rooting for her. I think most women in their early 30s (or late 20s) can relate to Megan's feeling of being left behind, with her best friends in happy relationships. You are constantly in this conflict of being so happy for them, yet feeling so sad and lonely that it's not happening to you, then guilty of feeling these envious thoughts. Megan is all of us! To be honest I teared up a couple times when you felt the strain within the girls' relationship; without giving any spoilers, let's just say I felt it hard.
Ollie, that dear boy...is probably the yummiest character ever to be written. He's hot, sensitive, good with his hands (in more ways than one), likes cozy spa nights in AND has a huge c**k?! If there is a man who exists in real life, I applaud the lady who lands him. His character was almost too perfect (key word almost), but he honestly was such a joy reading about, because you know he's not gonna do some dumb f**kboy thing and mess with our girl Megan. These kind of deep but unproblematic characters to read are my kind of comfort read.
This is definitely a slow burn - and boy is it slow - but the tension is delicious and once they finally get together the payoff is so worth it. One thing about reading a HJS book is you know there will be top tier spice; not overtly shoved in your face or overkill to the point where the spice desensitizes you, it's just right (not to sound like a horny Goldilocks). What I enjoyed about Megan and Ollie's relationship is that it's based from a friendship, and builds from there. You can see the progression from roommates to friends, then to lovers, making it more realistic and sweet. I also love the way we follow along with Ollie's adventure van construction - now I need someone who's good at fan art to create this so I can see what it would look like!
Loved this book. I am going to miss these characters, but it was a perfect way to close out the Sunshine Book Club. Highly recommend, and would LOVE to see this done in audiobook form in the future!
📝 mini blurb: After her best friend/roommate moves out and an incident has him worried, Megan’s dad insists that his trusted employee, Ollie, moves in with her.
After initially tiptoeing around one another in this new, awkward situation, Megan & Ollie form a friendship in their forced proximity. They get to know one another on a deeper level, truly seeing each other as no one else ever has.
💭 what I loved about this one: - EVERYTHING 🥹 k no but seriously I loved this so much - the swoony feeling I got every time Ollie thought about Megan, the little touches, the tension, their first kiss… 🫠 - Megan was incredibly relatable, so many lines she says/thinks have come out of my own mouth 😅 - Ollie 🥹 he’s so considerate and thoughtful, a real gentleman, and honestly just a refreshing MMC - the happy things jar 🫙 - that he could *hear her* through the wall 🤭 - learning about van builds (and proceeding to watch videos after 🙃)
⭐️: ♾️ 🌶️: open door, several descriptive scenes
✦ tropes & stuff: 💜 age gap - SHE’S older (32/23) 🔑 roommates 🫶🏼 strangers to friends to lovers 🍎 high school English teacher fmc 🛠 construction worker + musician mmc 👷🏻♂️ boss’ daughter 💭 planner x dreamer 🛏 only one bed 💞 dual 1st person pov

Thank you to Holly June Smith for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
A younger hot dude and an older hot woman become housemates and then get frisky. She thinks she's too old for him and he thinks she deserves better. Definitely a lazy, summer holidays read. Plus, there's a cool van renovation that makes me want to go on a road trip. ✌
Absolutely loved this book, another easy 5 ⭐️ That makes every book in this interconnected series a banger for me! This third book is no exception.
Ok thoughts starting off - Omg Rob’s sweetheart approach to Megan when Hattie moves out made me tear up. I was at 4% and emotional already and it’s wasn’t even the MMC, geez! I think I also just really related to Megan and her (maybe unfounded) feelings of being left behind. I just felt for her and was pretty emotional for the first little bit. Love her.
Oh Ollie…Ollie, Ollie, Ollie…soooo gorgeous and cute. Absolutely loved and melted over his care for Megan. He is just a good f*cking dude. Also - very clear he’s the baby boy of a family of sisters. He pays attention to Megan and her needs so well.
There’s also just some hilarious parts, all I can say is … oh lord, my cackle at the search term “gen z underwear sexy” 🤣🤣
I loved them so sweetly even while they were breaking my heart a little. There’s things that tore me up!! I was shedding tears for sure.
I just really loved the two of them together, seemingly different but also very much a perfect fit. I love how they just slowly fell in together, kind of like sinking into a warm bath. It was great seeing them both figure themselves out a bit.
The writing, characters, emotionality, and bits of humour all work so well together to make for an excellent romance read.
Definitely recommend this (and the previous two books) for a good, balanced mix of heartwarming, tear-jerking, and some hot open-door scenes that support the romance perfectly.
5/5 ⭐️
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
Beyonddddd sweet. I absolutely loved how this story turned out. I could see it in my head as a movie the whole time. HJS always gives us what we want and makes us swoon 😭 I LOVE U OLLIIIEEEEE
This was my favorite book in this series, hands down. Ollie was incredibly emotionally mature for a 23 year old, making the 10 year age gap work well. Plenty of steam like all of Holly June Smith's books, with a perfect amount of tension and a slow burn that was so worth the wait.
I was SO EXCITED to get an ARC of this book! I’ve read almost every single HJS book including the other two in this series and let me tell you, this one might just be my favorite. It’s got some of my all time favorite tropes - older FMC, dreamer x planner, roommates (obv). I LOVE the tension and slow burn between Ollie & Megan at the start, the reader frustration knowing they both want more but think the other doesn’t, and of course Holly’s excellently written banter. The line “banker wanker” almost made water come out of my nose 😂😂 Even if you haven’t read the other books in the Sunshine Book Club series, this book is incredible (this is a standalone read but just know there are a few spoilers of what happens in the other two books as this one is chronologically the third).
I have beta reader this book and it is sensational! I love it so much. HJS is the queen of spice and all things nice. Of the 3 books in this series, this is my favourite. They can all be read independently but I think you get a better idea of Megan’s character and her panic in the first part of the book, if you have met her before. I loved everything about this story and the spice is spot on. A slow burn that melted my heart, made me squeal, laugh and cry!
"I'm thinking that you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. That that was fucking hot." He kisses his way back up my body, and he has no idea that each one is healing a part of me that someone else broke. "That I'm the luckiest guy in the world to see you like this." Now I might cry. "And I'm thinking, darling, about whether you have a rule against eating dinner in bed?"
"There's my girl," he says, peelings back the covers. I'm under them in seconds, lured in by the softness, the warmth, him. He ditches his book and turns out the light. Snuggling lower, he curls himself around me, dragging me closer and splaying his warm hand against my lower belly. "Finally." He sighs against my hair, deep and happy. "I was missing you."

𝓢𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓼/𝓢𝓽𝓪𝓷𝓭𝓪𝓵𝓸𝓷𝓮 Third book of the “Sunshine Book Club” Series.
𝓝𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓼 Usually, I’m more into age gap books where the MMC is older but oh honestly? THIS one was perfection. Get it, Megan! I love you.😩
From the tropes to the characters, from the settings to the writing— all of it kept me hooked at all times and I devoured this book so fast!! The book is the third in a series, but you can read it perfectly well as a stand-alone as well, it’s what I did! (Will probably read the other two books soon though~)
Ollie is the literal meaning of a PERFECT book boyfriend. He’s sweet, kind, protective but not violent, soft, and he truly CARES for Megan. And isn’t that what we all are looking for in book boyfriends? (I mean, most of us…?🫣) Especially this part: he fixes all the small things around the house which are broken like a door, because that’s exactly what he does during his job. It’s perfect. He mostly doesn’t even ask her if she wants help— he just does it. Because he cares for her, because he truly wants to be there for here!
Especially when Megan struggles with being away from her friends at times because they’re busy with their boyfriends, he’s always there for her, to cheer her up. Isn’t that what a good boyfriend does?🫂
The chemistry between the two characters is just so PERFECT! So soft, so comfortable and yet so tense.😏 It’s a REALLY slow burn but honestly? I’m always down for a good slow burn. The moment when they both snap and give in to their desires>>> I mean yes Megan, he might be younger than you. But you know what they say… young bulls have more energy. Respectfully.😂
One last note: I absolutely LIVE for audio erotica getting mentioned in her books. Maybe that’s just my obsession with a certain voice artist though.😂

ARC Review of The No Rules Roommate by Holly June Smith 👷🏻♂️👩🏻🏫💘🚐🍝📚🧖🏻♀️
I’m so in love with this book. Ollie and Megan completely stole my heart. Their story is sweet, real, and full of those little moments that make you smile without even realizing it.
Ollie? Literal perfection. Mature, thoughtful, protective—he treats Megan like she’s the only girl in the world. And Megan felt like me in so many ways. Watching her let go of her “perfect” life plan and open herself up to something better was beautiful.
The slow burn? Delicious. The emotions? All over the place—in the best way. I laughed, I teared up, I swooned hard.
I didn’t want to leave these characters. I loved seeing the whole friend group again, the cozy vibes, the spicy bits, and the big heart behind every scene. This book reminded me that love shows up when you least expect it—and sometimes, it’s even better than the dream you had in mind.💘

It would be so stupid to say out loud, but all I can think is that home is wherever I'm with her.
There might be a life out there on the road, but I don’t want it if she’s not in the passenger seat.
“Today was a good day,” “Every day is a good day with you, Megan.”
“I’m ready for every kind of adventure with you.”
‼️Book coming out April 22nd on Amazon and I'm already so stoked for everyone to read it and love it as much as I did‼️
The final book in the Sunshine Book Club is here - And it was everything I thought it would be!
Ollie is super adorable. Attentive, caring, emotionally mature and just everything Megan needs. I loved learning more about Megan and her life after the first two books. Ollie's story is told so well, showing how age gaps can work and how someone's family does not define them. Dreams are important, and believing in yourself and your own dream is so important. How Ollie and Megan meet feels so natural, and just what Megs was looking for but couldn't see it at the time. How they both break down each other's walls and trust each other was done in a way that isn't obvious, allowing for them to see each other's vulnerabilities.
Once again Holly writes with such passion for her characters and their happy endings, bringing the reader to feel all the emotions possible, and making the reader fall in love with the couple.
In a way I feel sad I'll not get a new book in this series again, I've enjoyed reading about these three besties. The Best Book Boyfriend was my first ever spicy romance novel, and seeing it now to have ended makes me also feel warm and fuzzy at each of their stories being complete. I'll be revisiting them frequently and enjoying their camaraderie, love, laughter and friendship.
So good, and yet so sad the sunshine series is over!
Holly June Smith writes books I read again and again, and The No Rules Roommate will definitely be added to the rotation. It’s just so very good!
Ollie and Megan want very different things, but the attraction is there from the first time they meet. Ollie wants the freedom of the open road and Megan wants to meet her future husband and stay rooted in her unfulfilling life. Who knew their very different desires are not unconquerable?
I will admit I was getting impatient with Megan’s rigidity and unwillingness to grab life by the cojones, not to mention her resistance about wanting a younger man. It’s a me thing. I make decisions easily and live with the fallout, whether good or bad. It’s one of the reasons I find slow burn so frustrating. But she eventually came to the realization that complete love and happiness can mean many things in the end. I LOVE the life they chose together and now a part of me would love the opportunity to live a life like theirs.
Holly June Smith’s books are SO SWEET and such an absolute treat to read. The No Rules Roommate as the third (standalone) book in the Sunshine Book Club series was such a lovely way to wrap up this friend group’s story 💕
The MMC Ollie is a DREAM and I literally loved everything about him. He was perfect for FMC Megan—considerate & thoughtful, a gentleman, a good cook, and an absolutely filthy mouth that had me panting for more 🫠 what more could a girl want?! He knew how to put Megan at ease and I loved watching her blossom with his help throughout the book.
tropes & themes: → roommates to lovers 🏡 → age gap (she’s older!) 🥵 → opposites attract 🔄 → teacher FMC 📚 x construction MMC 🔨 → boss’s daughter 👨🏻 → ONLY ONE BED 🛌
My favorite quote: “I’m really overthinking how much stuff I might need,” she frowns, picking at her lip. “I’d say so.” I loop my arms around her waist and bury my face in my favourite spot. “It’s just one night.” “I want it to be perfect.” “Then all it needs is you.”
Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Where can I find an Ollie? She asks knowing full well he’s fictional, and she’s happily married. Forgive me though because he was the best damn thing in this book. 😍.
I had thought maybe I was just loving him because of his proximity to (excuse my language) Megan’s shitty friends-I’m reliably informed that they don’t suck this much in their own books- but he is actually genuinely just awesome.
I loved him, and honestly I would have loved Megan too if she just got out of her own way a bit more. I threw my hands up in exasperation on more than one occasion, and made vaguely threatening comments about deducting stars if she didn’t just do the thing 😂.
I did really enjoy myself watching them fight against their feelings, and would love to read more of their
(SPOILER)
van adventures.
As always though I adore Holly June’s writing and will never stop telling people to check her out.
3.25 slices of Mrs. Porter's lasagna for Holly June Smith's third and final book in the Sunshine Book Club series. Megan and Ollie's story was sexy and sweet, with a lot of flips on the typical romance tropes. Despite an age gap (Ollie is nearly a decade younger than Megan) HE is the mature one, and she is...frankly a hot mess! 🤣 TBH Megan is many things I don't find attractive in a character, but it's a testament to HJS's character building that even though I didn't particularly LIKE Megan, I accepted her based on how much OLLIE liked Megan. Because Ollie was bomb. And everyone deserves love. Except maybe Hattie, who I still haven't quite forgiven, but I'm getting closer after this book.
This was cute and HJS always hits the spice right. But I just didn’t feel that connected to Megan like at all? And I didn’t like Kara or Hattie in this book even though I loved them both in their own books. Idk, somethings wrong with me lol. Ollie was down bad and their romance was cute. The 3rd act breakup was short and sweet too.
Initially I thought I wasn’t going to like this, Megan was so whingey and needy but I bloody loved it! If you’re after feel good, no effort fluffy reads, sunshine book club is perfect!
“Whatever you want, whenever you’re ready to ask for it.” 🔥
Slow burn, but trust me on this well worth the wait. Ollie and Megan are just so good together. I adore them.
Ollie is good with his hands, good with his words and open with his hearts despite having a terrible family. I really love his relationship with Megan’s parents.
Megan is going through a rough patch while putting on a brave face on the outside. Ollie is the first person in a while to truly stop and see her and help her vocalize what she wants.
My heart will be with them for a while while I daydream of my own van adventures.
This is book 3 in the series but I am just coming into it and I can assure you it can be read as a stand alone. I’ll definitely go back and read Kara’s and Hattie’s books now, especially after that ending.
A big thank you to the author Holly June Smith for the advanced reading copy, all my opinions are my own.
I am so sad that this series is over but I am so happy that I found Holly June Smith and her ability to create some of the best book boyfriends out there. She has a way of creating characters that have hidden layers that have you feel all the feels as you get to know them. The banter is top notch and the character growth feels a little like therapy.
I loved this story and watching Ollie and Megan find happiness and belonging in each other. I love an age gap and found family romance and they might be my favorite tropes. To me, Ollie feels like an old soul, who has a deep well of love ready to give to the right person. He wants to be seen for who he is and what he is capable of, not for who he is supposed to be.
Megan is someone who puts everything she has into everyone around her. She keeps herself busy with plans and check lists and before she knows it, the life she envisioned has passed her by. She has done everything by the book and followed all the rules her whole life. While Ollie and Megan seem like opposites, they both want to be seen and loved for who they are wholeheartedly.
I was smiling basically the entire book. The love was loving and the spice was spicing. If you haven’t read this series, you are missing out. I will recommend them every chance I get and I won’t even say I told you so.
Fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book and absolutely ADORED it. I think it’s my favourite of the 3 sunshine bookclub books. Megan and Ollie are perfect, the slow burn is epic. The 🌶️ is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I cried with Megan and laughed a lot as well. This is the type of book that you hug to your chest at the end and feel sad it’s finished. Special mention has to be given to ‘picky tea’ - LOVED!
I'm a massive fan of an age gap where she's older, so I was very excited to read Megan and Ollie's love story.
Megan is an incredibly relatable character. She's a people pleaser and the last single one in her friend group, and she struggles when she feels like she's being left behind.
It's hard to choose, but I think Ollie is one of my favourite book boyfriends Holly has written. You can't go wrong with a man who's young, hot, and great with his hands (along with other things 😏)
This is one of those stories that had me kicking my feet with joy and left me feeling like I was wrapped up in my favourite blanket.
Also, the artwork... yes, yes, yes!! Give me this every time, please 😍
“I make my excuses, head for the shower, and definitely don’t do anything stupid like sniff her shampoo or use her body wash so I can smell like her all day.”
If there’s one thing about men written by Holly June Smith that you should know, it’s that they are all incredibly down bad for the female main character. And it’s THE. BEST.
The last installment of the Sunshine Book Club is here – we’re getting Megan’s story! She’s part of the trio with Kara (The Best Book Boyfriend) and Hattie (The Worst Guy Ever). You do not need to read these in order! Holly provides a wonderful “Previously on…” at the beginning of the book that gives you a good overview of the dynamics of the relationships between the characters – more authors need to do this! It’s rare I binge a series in order and it was so helpful!
Megan now lives on her own now that Hattie has moved out. After an attack outside her apartment, her parents do not like the idea of her living alone. Enter Ollie – one of her dad’s employees who is well-trusted and working on converting his van into a camper van. Ollie’s current residence isn’t great and he’s easily convinced by Megan’s dad to move in with her so he can save money and also keep an eye on Megan.
“I can’t help but wonder if living in such close quarters is having a similar effect on Megan to the one she’s having on me. Maybe I need to be shirtless around the house a little more often.”
Of course if semi-strangers move in with each other, it’s going to be awkward. They’re going to walk in on each other in the bathroom and they are, of course, going to hear each other…*ahem* through the wall *devil emoji*. Ollie gets Megan out of a VERY awkward situation with a date gone bad (this is probably the funniest thing I’ve read in AWHILE) and Megan plays the role of his fake girlfriend at a party. They are CLEARLY into each other and the tension grows and grows…
“You’re so fucking hot, you’ve got me acting like a teenager.” “Well, you practically are a---” “Finish that sentence and next time I won’t let you come.”
The No Rules Roommate was a perfect capstone to this series and I’ll be visiting with Ollie again, and again, and again…
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The No Rules Roommate is book 3 in the Sunshine Book Club series. With both friends finding their HEA, Megan has to decide what she really wants from life and the future. Just as she's got her new year's resolutions in order, she gains a roommate.
Megan is surrounded by happy couples, it's just too bad she's not in one. And of course to start the new year, her roommate and friend Hattie announces she's moving in with her boyfriend. Leaving Megan truly alone. Attempting to put on a brave face, she meets her friends for their annual New Year's spa day, but can't get into the spirit. When she returns back to her now single apartment, she's met with an intruder to the building. With a bump on her head and a father who wants his girl safe, Megan finds herself, single, without her friend and roommate, and the now spare room occupied by a guy named Ollie.
Ollie has one goal, save up enough money to convert his van into a travel van and see beyond England. Working with Megan's dad has taught him a lot about both fixing houses and making his van ready for the next adventure. Unfortunately saving money also means not so great living conditions and Ollie finds himself sleeping in the van most nights avoiding his partying roommates. When his boss offers up the extra room with his daughter, Ollie is just happy to have a warm place to sleep.
Neither is too thrilled about the new situation, but decide to make the most of it. As Friday nights of dinner and movies and conversation bleed into other facets of their life, Megan and Ollie feel the attraction, but is Ollie too young for Megan (of course not!) and Ollie is leaving in his van and surely Megan can't go with her job (she can, she just needs to leap).
Yall, I could not put this book down! I loved that these two were thrown into this situation and how their relationship unfolded. I really liked how Ollie stood up for Megan with her friends as their relationship evolved and Megan's speech to Ollie's family was 100% a slow clap!
If you haven't read books 1 and 2, you can jump right into this one!
