The Siren, gifted with the power to command anyone with a single word, is the cornerstone of the Seers' devotion. To them, Abel is more than human-a sacred figure to be worshipped and protected. But after the death of their mother, the first Siren, Abel's once-proud role begins to crumble. Their gift now feels more like a curse, and the weight of expectation threatens to break them.
When the Seers reach their limit with Abel's growing defiance, they turn to Damien, a drifter with nowhere to go and needing a place to stay, and assign him an impossible protect the Siren at all costs. For Damien, it's a chance to escape the streets. For Abel, it's an unwelcome intrusion from someone they neither trust nor want in their life.
Abel's only solace comes from Willow, their best friend and a skilled witch who serves as the community's healer. Fiercely loyal, Willow does everything she can to support Abel, but even her magic can't repair the cracks forming in Abel's spirit.
As Abel struggles to reconcile the Siren's image with the truth about their mother and the Seers, they begin to uncover the possibility of a life-and a love-beyond the confines of power and worship.
As one of the beta readers for this book I really enjoyed this :). I love Abel and Damien their chemistry and how they grew throughout the story. Every detail has been thought out, including all the 90s things mentioned in the story!
It's a exciting adventure that includes murder, love, humor and friendship mixed with fantasy ✨.
I was privileged to be a beta reader. This book has everything I need in a story. It has great story building, atmosphere, drama,Fantasy and a little bit of spice. This story had me reading faster than my usual snails pace because I just wanted to know what would happen next.
I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down. I've been in a bit of a reading slump but this def got me out of it. I went in with no expectations other than the author being nice and the cover being cool.
If you're like me you'll be obsessed with Abel. They are such a bitchy brat. I think the way Abel's story develops is *chef's kiss.* I adored them from the start but def noted "bitch" and "wtf" on a few things they said. The reader starts to understand them while they are developing a deeper understanding of themself. It was really cool to experience. Abel is such a complex character.
As a nonbinary person I really appreciated the representation and the way Abel talks about their body. "I didn’t hate my body, nor did I think it was ugly. It was just not really made for me."
Damien is a total "doberman boyfriend." I adore that. He is a whole character and doesn't just exist to just support Abel either. His storyline is tragic but he is so resilient. He isn't afraid to show and share how he is feeling either. The way he guides Abel into the "real" world is very sweet. He introduces them to so many new things but in a way that is gentle and supportive.
I really enjoy darker stories/vibes so it was perfect for me.
It was left off with the right amount of unanswered questions without it feeling unfinished.
From its very first page, A Siren Song draws you into a world where reverence can be a prison, and divinity can be a burden. Abel’s story is unlike anything I’ve read in fantasy: a deeply personal exploration of what happens when you're put on a pedestal you never asked for. As the second Siren, they carry the weight of a dying legacy, the grief of losing their mother, and the crushing expectations of a community that sees them as something sacred instead of someone human.
The way Aimee Chaves writes Abel’s emotional landscape is extraordinary. You feel every crack in their spirit, every flicker of rebellion, and every quiet moment of yearning. Their dynamic with Damien is sharp and uneasy at first, but watching it evolve reluctant trust turning into fragile companionship is immensely satisfying. And Willow? She is the soul of this story. A healer, a witch, and a fiercely loyal friend who understands Abel in ways no one else can.
This book doesn’t rely on big battles or high stakes politics. Instead, it focuses on the internal wars we fight the longing to be free, the fear of disappointing those we love, and the courage it takes to redefine yourself. The prose is gorgeous, the themes are profound, and the characters feel like they could step off the page.
A Siren Song isn’t just a fantasy novel it’s a journey of self-discovery, a love letter to friendship, and a stunning portrayal of the cost of power. I can’t recommend it enough.
Absolutely loved it. From the start you dive in the world of Abel and their struggles to live up to everyone's expectations in the commune(cult) they call home. If you love the mystic, with a dark undertone and the burdens that having powers can bring. This book set in a not too distant past, with a slow burn, and a marriage of convenience. Is a must read!
