I haven't seen the new Snow White movie in the cinema yet. I'll probably wait until it lands on Disney+. However, I was really curious about this book. I always love it when the sleeping princess has her own adventure while the world thinks she's dead and lost. And this adventure didn't disappoint. The story is clearly aimed towards younger readers. There are loads of adventures and dangers, but it never gets too dangerous. And of course there is a not so surprising twist at the very end. I have to admit that some chapters were quite long for a book aimed towards younger readers, but overall this was a quick, easy and entertaining read.

I read this while on my Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. It’s a cute story about what happens to Snow White while she was in her deep sleep. She was on a quest to get back. It’s a good retelling. The untold story. This is more for middle grade readers.

Tuttavia ci tenevo a leggere questo libro, i what if Disney sono sempre interessanti.

This was a true middle-of-the-road book for me. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t necessarily love it, either. I’ll start by saying that I feel like it will help if you watch the 2025 movie first before reading this, but it’s not a necessity.

I enjoyed how the story expanded the character of Snow White, really showing us how much of a fighter she is. The introduction of the new characters were really good, too. I enjoyed all of them and felt like they were great additions to the story.

Unfortunately, I feel like that’s where part of the problem lies for me. I enjoyed these new characters so much that I wasn’t thrilled with how the story ended because these aren’t characters you see in the movie. They’re one-and-done in this particular story. I also felt like the story itself was good, but it never really hit the point where I found myself enjoying it more until the final trial and the twist that accompanies it.

The idea the story itself is fantastic, taking place after Snow White is poisoned with the apple and falls into a deep sleep. But I feel like being so far removed from the plot of the movie, actually hinders it instead of helping it.

This book is a cozy retelling of Snow White, or, even better, a darker version of what happend to her when she eats the poisonous apple.
I highly suggest it to everybody!

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

It was okay, but a bit boring. I found my mind wandering a lot while trying to get through it I just couldn't stay focused. It wasn’t terrible by any means, but there really wasn’t enough going on to keep me interested. The pacing felt slow, and the story lacked the kind of tension or excitement I look for in a fairytale retelling. Overall, just kind of meh.

Snow White is Disney's most recent remake, and with each remake we get a novelization and a spin-off novel. Now, I am always a sucker for these and get them for nearly every remake. What can I say? I'm a huge Disney fan. I also genuinely liked the film. I thought it had a lot of fun sequences! When I first saw the premise for this novel, I was instantly captivated by the unique world and interesting premise. When I actually started reading the novel, though, I was hit with a combination I did not know I needed! This book feels like a cross between Once Upon a Dream: A Twisted Tale and Minecraft. Is that the most odd pairing in all of literature? Yes! Was it instantly unique and fun? Also yes! So in this review I will detail what I liked, what could've been a wee-bit stronger, and then my overall conclusion.

This novel excels as Snow White! I mean, the writing was just like that of the movie! So much so that I could imagine Rachel Zegler in that saturated blue and yellow dress saying the lines. Very on brand! She actually showed herself being fearless, fair, brave, and true! She was a joy. The side-characters? I liked Henry, but the others seemed very onenote. However, that's okay, as they don't get nearly as much page-time as Henry, thus I wouldn't expect them all to be as three-dimensional. The world? I loved the aesthetics of it! It very much screamed fairy tale. It was so peculiar, yet also captivating! The world really seemed fleshed out. There is a twist at the end of the novel, which I won't give away here, but it was also pretty good. Now, the actual pay-off was disappointing, but the buildup was splendid! For other smaller pros, I liked the trials, and creatures (and their very unique anatomy. That is by far the coolest part of the book), and the themes of the four words on Snow's locket. You could also feel the shadow of the queen within the novel as well!

Now, there are fewer things I didn't like, but they are somewhat mighty. So, Firstly, the novel is just far too short. I was left wanting more, but not in a particularly good way. I felt as if the climax was too short, making it ultimately unsatisfying. I also thought that the trials were just a little too easy. They talk, throughout the novel, about how the queen is putting them through these hard trials.... But besides a trip down a river, there isn't anything too difficult here. The trials ultimately just seemed tedious. That doesn't mean they were bad, but they could've been a bit better. I also didn't like the Queen's moments, though that may also be because I was imagining Gal Gadot saying them. Hey, it's okay... She was actually good in the movie! But, I've just been burned by her before. But, that is all of my problems. If the novel was a bit longer to make the journey seem more harrowing, that would be great! But, the novel is perfectly serviceable as is.

Okay, so I liked the remake, and this book is a fun counterpart. It isn't as good as other live-action spin-offs like The Little Mermaid: Against the Tide and Cruella: Hello, Cruel Heart, but it was on par with the movie. In that odd way, it felt very cohesive. I recommend it to Disney Twisted Tale fans. They'd love this!

-POTENTIAL SPOILERS-

How many times have I begun recent reviews with 'I really wanted to like this'? I feel like a lot of what I read lately have been books that on paper sound extremely appealing to me, but when I actually read them, they just seem to be missing something. I really like the tie-in novels for the live-action movies, a lot of them add a lot of interesting context to the characters and world that are different from the animated inspirations. I was looking forward to reading this because I really liked the live-action Snow White but craved more exploration of the world and characters. I thought I would get it from this book, but I just didn't.

I did like the world of Diament. Everything was made out of jewels, but was also a dreamworld you're permanently locked in, with dreamworld logic. That was really interesting to me. I loved the descriptions of all the different kinds of jewels. I also liked how Snow White wasn't the only one cursed and the Evil Queen did this to a bunch of her subjects solely because they got in her way, said no, or were simply existing in a way she didn't like. It was very in-character for the vain woman, who only cares about the physical beauty of things and people.

However, the novel is too plot-focused and fast-paced as a result. It didn't leave much time for character development or exploring their backstories, which was something I was looking forward to. I wanted to know more about Snow White, and while her personality is displayed well here, I was hoping we learned more about her backstory, but it's basically what we've already seen in the movie. I also wanted more explanation of the Evil Queen's magic. How does it work, exactly? Where did it come from? Whjy does she have it specifically? This book really could've used more pages, the climax is very quick, and then it just ends. It doesn't even show her waking up, it just ends with her being like 'now we can finally go home!'

I also feel this book implied it wasn't even the kiss that woke her up, it was finding the Ruby Heart, which I wasn't a huge fan of.

Overall, I really wanted to like this. I read the one based on the live-action Little Mermaid last year and it was really good and I wanted something more like this for this, but I didn't get it. It was rushed and too focused on the plot, which left little room to explore or expand different characters and ideas from the movie. It wasn't bad, but it could've been a lot better, so I honestly don't feel bad rating this as low as I did.

This is a retelling of Snow White. In this story, the Evil Queen has created another world where she sends the conscious of anyone who has wronged her. In this other world, everything is made up of jewels and gems and malice - everything the Queen loved.
Snow White is sent here. She meets a young girl named Mouse, and Mouse has been stuck here for decades. She also meets a man who is a blacksmith of sorts. They both have accepted their destinies. In this other world, a person can be injured, even killed. Meanwhile, in the real world, their body is just in a coma type of state.
Snow White and her 2 companions must go through trials to reach the Ruby heart. The heart is what will grant one person one wish and then disintegrate.
So, they go through various trials. They make it through. In the end, Mouse turns out to be part of the Queen’s subconscious. Since she created this other world when she was young, she created a young girl as well to try and convince all the inhabitants that they wanted to stay in this other world.
So Snow White and the gentleman return to their world. They realize for the wish to come true for everyone, they must all link hands while the wish is made. But, we don’t know if it works because the book just ends. So maybe they made it back to the real world? And if they did, would they remember this journey in this other realm? Would they recognize each other? We’ll never know.

First of all, addressing the poisoned apple in the room, the new Snow White live action film is a delight for fans of the original, Disney movies, and musicals. Most other things said about the movie are irrelevantly dragging personal politics and feelings into places they don’t belong.

This book is no exception, however it is a duller affair compared to the color and joy of the movie. The trials are tame and there’s no real villain in it; the queen makes a few cameos, and, though Snow White is trapped in a dream world the queen herself created to send the victims of her curses, she appears to have little power or influence there. It was a wasted opportunity that could have been used to explore Snow White and the queen’s dynamic, something we have very little of all these decades later.

I did like the notion of the solution to conflicts Snow White and Henry encountered could be found within. The whole idea of tapping into inner strength and leading with kindness is in line with both versions of Snow White. There’s a glimpse of some of Snow White’s fear and insecurity, but I would have appreciated knowing more about her motivations.

Henry was a decent character but also felt like a copy of Jonathan, just with different physical features. Still, his interaction with Snow White is the main plot point and it was enjoyable experiencing them together.

There was a delightful and unexpected twist toward the end, which was a highlight too, I just found myself wishing for more. It accomplishes the job of setting an atmosphere and keeping interest in the character, it maybe is just the fairest tie in novel of all.

Fair and Sinister Heart completely won me over — which is saying something, because I hated the live action version. But this book? It gives the story a whole new depth and darkness that feels utterly magical.

The story begins right as Snow White takes that fateful bite of the poisoned apple — only instead of falling into simple slumber, her mind is transported to Diamant, a glittering and treacherous dream world made of gems and ruled by the Queen’s most twisted creations. The world-building is stunning, eerie, and so vivid it feels like you could cut your finger on the sharp edges of it.

I loved how Snow White wasn’t just a damsel waiting to be saved here. She’s fierce, determined, and deeply human as she teams up with others cursed by the Queen to find the mythical Ruby Heart and free both Diamant and her own kingdom. The trials they face are imaginative and dangerous, and there’s this constant sense that something darker lurks beneath the surface — and that kept me hooked until the very last page.

This book turned a fairytale I’d written off into something beautiful, haunting, and empowering. If you’ve ever wanted a true Snow White retelling with heart, courage, and danger glittering on every page, this is it.

After Snow White bites into the poisoned apple, she finds herself in a cursed realm made of gemstones, along with others the Queen has trapped amid monsters and devious curses.
Taking place mid film, this book is perfectly serviceable. Vague enough on details to be read cold without film spoilers, and engrossing enough, if not the most action packed book ever written. The original characters are well done, and feel authentic to the story of the movie, even if Snow herself creeps into Out of Character once or twice.
Do you NEED to read it? No. But if you liked the new movie, or even just Snow White in general, it's a decent little read that scratches the itch for more story.
Not as good as other Disney tie ins (Lost in a Book, Heart of the Moors) but ten times better than others I could mention, but won't.

This review is long overdueee. In preparation for the movie I read this lovely little book. A fun story about what Snow White goes through when her evil step mother gives her the apple and she goes into her “deep sleep". This was a fun kinda tie in novel to reveal how she ended her deep sleep. Although, I wish it would’ve tied into the movie more that would’ve been cool. It was a fun light read with my only real complaint being that the chapters were too long. Iike I think it was chapter 8 that was like 50 or so pages. Which in other books may be fine but this was a young adult book. Other than that I liked reading this fun story. Would recommend if you’re a fan of Snow White!

Already in the first chapter i’m annoyed with Snow White for demanding her savior not try to kill or harm the wolf that was attacking her. It’s kind of ungrateful and unreasonable too. The man was currently risking his life and Snow White just expects him to stop the wolf without giving him a plan?
I also admit i found her a bit pushy trying to know Henry better when he didn’t want to talk about certain topics.
The fact that Mouse was the Evil Queen wasn’t a surprise. I kinda suspected that early on. It was hinted in the synopsis. Then the clues were obvious: Mouse being the first person there; no one knows her real name, her fascination with gems, complaining about the map, whining about her shoes. She wasn’t really such a help on the quest.
While Snow White is clearly taking charge to get out of her enchanted sleep; I kinda feel like this just hollows out the whole true love’s kiss scene.

I haven't seen the live action movie, but I am a big Disney fan so I decided to give this book a try. The was a character that was mentioned throughout the book, Jonathan, that is unfamiliar to me (I'm assuming he is from the new movie), but it left me confused at times. The story was very juvenile, but still had the charm of Snow White's character of being brave, fair, and true.

I loved this way more than the movie, I didn’t even watch the live action, but it felt better, still didn’t seem like the original show white but it was waaaayyy better than the live action adaptation. They could have turned this into a movie with flashbacks of the original movie, that would have been amazing.
I really liked this book.

I want to preface that I have not seen the live action and this book is said to be inspired by it. However, Lauren Blackwood did such a great job of reimagining Snow White into this incredible new world. I don’t know if there is a second book coming out, but the end is left very open to the imagination and I neeeeeeed more!!

Ok so I was honestly a little skeptical about this it was actually really good!!!

It was very fast paced and I never got bored!

There was a little flirting but that was all the romance

The only thing that was kinda annoying was Snow White was the only one solving any of the problems

It was a little violent but not descriptive

I just finished Snow White: Fair & Sinister Heart, and it was such a cute, quick read! The story explores what happens while Snow White is asleep—a perspective I don’t see often but really enjoy. I’ve always loved when authors reimagine classic tales by showing the other side of the story, and I wish more would do the same.

It’s a charming story that I think both children and adults will enjoy.

This didn’t do much for me - nothing wrong with it, I just did not connect with the story or the idea that all of this was going on while Snow White was asleep waiting for true love’s kiss - maybe a younger audience would appreciate but I also think some of the themes are a little bit scarier than some audiences would appreciate- I know my 9 year old daughter probably would be scared.

Retelling in chiave dark? Come resistere?

This was a cute story. I liked the concept of what she went thru while she was asleep from the poison apple. When it ended I wanted it to go further but her waking up is shoe white so I understand why it didn’t. I enjoyed it.
