With her nursing degree in hand and a blossoming new relationship with Cade, Caroline Fontenot is finally happy. Her mother has come to New Orleans to be closer to her, and the ghost of her grandmother hasn’t made an appearance since Caroline moved back to the bayou. Life seems perfect—until someone she loves is shot during her graduation party, confirming her family is still in danger. Cade becomes increasingly secretive and evasive about his past, and Caroline soon discovers his skills go disturbingly far beyond landscaping and moonlighting in a band. While battling her serious doubts about Cade, Caroline’s ex-fiancé pops in for a surprise visit at the worst possible time, instantly raising her suspicions about his intentions. Her rotten luck escalates when a freak accident prefaces an encounter with a voodoo woman in New Orleans who reveals two dark spirits haunting Caroline, feeding off her energy and fear. It’s only a matter of time before her heart will give out or some other mysterious “accident” could rob her of her life. She must take immediate action to rid herself of this evil darkness before it overpowers her.
Author of The Bayou Secrets Saga, Judy McDonough, has a deep love for the South. After an enlistment in the U. S. Navy where she was stationed in New Orleans and met her husband, she has lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, and now North Carolina. She and her husband are raising three teenage boys and dealing with an influx of hormones (boys get 'em, too), video games, gym bros, and new slang. Her most recent publications include: KRISTY'S RUNWAY, a novel about a couple of secondary characters in her Bayou Secrets Saga, and a novella titled THE ROYAL MUSE that was originally included in an anthology titled Love in the Time of Corona, Vol. 2.
I have to wait until sometime in 2015? Uggghhh!! This will kill me. This is a great series, with murder, mystery, romance, great character, and the intrigue that comes naturally with the setting of the bayou and New Orleans. The one thing that's bugging me though is this whole thing that's been left on the table with Caroline's sister Claire. Caroline was going to resolve that and Claire's boyfriend is Beau's cousin, who he'd have an influence. It just feels like a major miss and out of Caroline's character not to help and help now. Maybe in book three we'll hear something about it, but it will still feel like it's too late and a miss with this book.
I'm curious to know why Caroline is acting so strange to her mother having visions when just last summer it was her having them? She's acting like her mom is losing her mind, this whole scenario should be familiar to Caroline. I think it's dumb for her not to realize that. So I'm going to have to rate this book 3.75-3.90 stars for my frustration with her clueless-ness during this book 2. Cade is still wonderful and elusive! Ms. Judy you know how to write a MAN! So sexy! More man candy Matteo... Mmm mmm good! Trevor Trevor Trevor... I remember reading about his anger issues in book 1 and I kept thinking all he needs is for someone to handcuff him, blindfold him, and take a cat-o-nine tails to his gorgeous behind and he would be right as rain! Lol his interaction with Jessica was hilarious! So even with the rating I gave this book I still plan on getting book 3... I just NEED to know what happens next.
This book was AMAZING! I couldn't put it down. I read it in a day. I would recommend this book for anyone who likes intense romance and mystery books. I am so glad I was brought to this series on my kindle. It has consumed my life!
I've never read paranormal romance before, so this has been an enjoyable foray into the genre. Lifeline is a captivating story that always kept me entertained and eager to read more! Can't wait to pick up with the last book in the trilogy!
Either I was very confused about certain parts, or I just don't see how some of the details fit together to make this a believable story.
After the first few chapters, I typed out several of the big points, which I will mark as spoilers below. Afterward, I gave up caring what made sense and what didn't and just read the rest of the story. I still enjoyed the characters and story, but the "believability" factor, along with what I perceived to be loose ends, was very disappointing.
This book lacks the finesse and subtlety of a great story. The foundation is there, but it needs a lot of clean up. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but Lifeline couldn't hold my attention for all the issues.
Wow! Breathtakingly romantic and filled with thrills and chills. So we get some happiness in book two but we are still waiting for that explosive conclusion. With as much passion and romance filling in between the ghosts, conspiracies and life threatening events I didn't even miss the lack of explicit sexual encounters. There is definitely heated passion but no detailed sex. Imagination fills in what isn't written and sometimes that is better than eroticism. What a breath of fresh air and love in the pages. I don't have any idea when the next sequel is coming out but I will be on the lookout waiting impatiently.
A jumbled, fragmented story that leaves the reader confused. As if the author was trying to tell too much all at once. The story picks up after Caroline graduates from nursing school and returns to the bayou. Cade's secrets are revealed but mashed between Caroline being haunted and her step mother's antics. The reader is left wondering if voodoo is involved or just guardian angels trying to protect Caroline and her family from evil.
Phenomenal book. It was just as wonderful as book #1, like I previously stated, I will always purchase whatever Mrs. McDonough publishes. Wonderful storyteller, the book flows exactly the way it should, and the ending definitely made me lust after book #3. Purchase this, you will be thankful that you did.
I liked it don't get me wrong, but while the passion and desires was great, and the introduction of new characters was okay. I just felt that there was too much emphasis on the small details rather then the actual storyline. Hoping it will pick up on the 3rd book.
This was a great story of hanging in through all the ups and downs. As life gets more complicated and messy can they all hold it together and get past the secrets?
