The Fallout follows Vanessa Warren as she navigates the wreckage of addiction, cover-ups, and a past riddled with betrayal. Trust doesn’t come easy, not for Vanessa, especially when the people around her have blood on their hands. Worse, no one can prove it, no one will talk. After sharing on a local podcast about her brother and sister-in-law’s unsolved murder, a familiar face resurfaces on a night out. Is it coincidence or has she just painted a target on her back? Why is he suddenly back now? Find out in this multi-POV thriller romance. Looking for time jumps, flashbacks, and a past that refuses to stay buried? This is for you.
Clear your schedule, I inhaled this in a 24 hour period! Its so engrossing and has all the right tension. Its amazing what HR Delano can do with a story where a lot is laid out so early on. It doesn't rely on twists and cliffhangers (there are some) it relies on a sweeping narrative of character arcs and dramatic revelations. At times it was totally new to me: dark romance akin to crime/mafia, but not. At times I felt a gentle and welcome reminder to the Mind F Series. Just *chefs kiss.*
*maybe spoilers after this line*
The descent into Nes and Roy, the interspersed chapters of other perspectives, and finally, finally, a love that's so comforting it feels unreal. Cade is such a complex man and his love is so real in how it effects both of them.
Delano has a really gentle touch with regards to PTSD and how its shadow is strength and resilience. Both tangled together in contrasting proportions. I'm a little scared to read Bloodline after everything but lord knows I will!
The Fallout pulled me in from the very first page and didn’t let go until the end. The writing is sharp and vivid, with characters that feel real and complex. Every chapter left me wanting to know more, and the twists kept me hooked. Beyond the suspense, there’s a lot of heart in this story, it’s about choices, consequences, and the strength it takes to face what’s broken.
I found myself thinking about the book long after I finished it, which is always the mark of a great read. If you enjoy books that keep you turning the pages late into the night, The Fallout is a must. Highly recommend!
